THE INBETWEENERS SET FOR NETFLIX MOVIE SPECIAL AFTER DEVELOPMENT DEAL SIGNED WITH SHOW CREATORS
Last Autumn, production company Banijay announced a new deal with creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley for the rights to bring back The Inbetweeners for new audience, across a range of platforms which could include TV, film or stage. It's now reported that the comeback will be in the form of a film on Netflix. A source told The Sun: "Inbetweeners fans will be thrilled and relieved because when talk of a reboot emerged last year, there were fears it might not turn out to be a telly project. But

The brief case wanker must be forty by now.

Very ironic, because I went to see Greg Davies’ current tour the other day, and he had a bit about how the Inbetweeners was 15 years ago, can random blokes on the street move on from it please. Apparently, they can’t.

MissingLink101 Apr 10, 2026 +103
He must be so thankful Taskmaster came along because I mainly think of him for that nowadays (also really enjoyed him in 'Cuckoo', 'Man Down' and 'The Cleaner' since then)

Katharinemaddison Apr 11, 2026 +13
All good but The Cleaner is amazing.

I saw the same tour about a month ago (Which was a brilliant show, Greg is incredible live) and there had been rumours not long before that the Inbetweeners creators were shopping around a revival - and all I could think whilst Greg was doing his Inbetweeners bit was "He's gonna be the first one who signs on for it".

He didn't ask people to move on he said Greg Davies said that in a stand up.

You alright there mate?

Hopefully it can undo how bland the 2nd movie was. Fun fact: the actors who play Will, Simon, and Neil are now as old or older than Greg Davies was as Mr Gilbert when it started

Good lord, Joe Thomas looks amazing for 42

I watched him in a really terrible movie the other day. It was really terrible.
12
Calm_Memories Apr 11, 2026 +15
Watch him on Taskmaster as a little refresher.
15
AlonzoMoseley Apr 11, 2026 +3
I watched his latest film and thought it was great, but I remember at the time thinking there’ll be a lot of people who’d hate it.

krishnugget Apr 12, 2026 +1
So really terrible then?

I don't believe you

>Greg Davies was as Mr Gilbert when it started I had no idea he was only 40 in the first season, wtf
26
Accomplished-City484 Apr 11, 2026 +14
Going from 25 to 40 is a huge change, but 40 to 55 doesn’t seem as drastic even though it’s the same amount of time
14
Mediocre-Cook-2169 Apr 11, 2026 +4
I think you're missing the point slightly here. It's not how much they all changed in fifteen years that people find unbelievable (obviously the four of them will change more than Greg will have), it's the fact that all four of them look so much younger at forty than Greg did.
4
Puzzleheaded_Win_134 Apr 12, 2026 +2
I think millennials in general look younger on average than the previous generations did at that age

While I’m not the biggest Inbetweeners fan (it’s good, just not among my personal faves), the first movie was a pretty good foray into the ‘tv show goes on holiday movie’. The second was toss.

Healthy_Method9658 Apr 11, 2026 +15
Currently watching the Scrubs and Malcolm in the middle reboots.  Seeing these shows I grew up watching come back with the cast older than the "old" people were in the original is a very unwelcome reminder how fast the time is all going. (Both of these reboots have been excellent).

Pen_dragons_pizza Apr 11, 2026 +9
That second movie kind of betrayed the characters I felt, they become over the top impersonations of who they were in the series and even the first movie. Also the total change of character for Simon’s girlfriend just made no sense. The whole thing was just badly done and theatrical. The core concept of a gap year was fun and should have worked

zeroxray Apr 11, 2026 +2
2nd movie was a cash grab This one too but if everyone's back on board why not
2
cheeseburgerwalrus22 Apr 13, 2026 +1
I feel you, thought that was jarring too. I also thought the happy ending of the first movie was a bit too on the nose
1
mattjimf Apr 12, 2026 +2
In the podcast Joe and James do, James was saying that they were at the Brits with the first Skins iteration, and one offered him a drink from a hip flask. He just looked at him and said I can get a drink from the bar.

Has no one read the article? It’s literally some random source given to The Sun…
22
amathysteightyseven Apr 11, 2026 +3
I just read it and the S*n’s source doesn’t even mention Netflix. Unless I’ve misread something? It literally just says it will be hitting television screens.

I liked the show, but each movie had diminishing returns. I'll watch it because I liked it but I'm not holding out much hope for it... it's been 16 years since the show and 12 since the last movie.

I'm not exactly looking for or expecting any sort of cinematic masterpiece out of an Inbetweeners movie. As long as it's crude, stupid, and fun to watch after a bowl, I'll be happy.
11
TheTrueRory Apr 11, 2026 +5
I thought the first movie was a great follow-up that also ended with the boys growing up a little by the end. The 2nd movie was terrible, reverted them all back to their worst qualities, and had no good bits.

MyTeaIsMighty Apr 10, 2026 +23
Perhaps but it did give us: "Oh no problem at all, I love kids" "...He's a paedophile" and "Awobabob-bob?" "...What?" "I said what time is it now?" "No you f****** didn't you said awobabob-bob"

The only way they can do this imo is if they're adults with children in Secondary School. I'm imagining something like their children are much cooler than they were, and are actually popular. Deeply embarrassed by their dads, the most uncool dads they know. So the guys try to do like a boys camping trip to bond with their sons (who couldn't think of anything worse) and shit goes t*** up.

I utterly approve.

Hot-Clerk504 Apr 11, 2026 +2
I think the reason the first movie worked so well is because it actually resonated with lads that age (myself included) and how they visioned their lads holiday to be pulling every night and it ended up a complete failure. It was written almost as if it was telling a personal story of some kind whereas the second it felt like it was entirely made in a writing room. For this to be a success it needs to connect to the 30-35 year olds that have grown up with the Inbetweeners and hit some familiar tones

Feel like I've been reading a version of this headline for sometime now? Do we know more about this beyond the fact that it's happening? Unrelated but also see a lot of people writing this off already. I know people are a little jaded by reboots and spinoffs and nostalgia content as a whole, but the idea of these guys in their late 30s getting up to some stupid bullshit after the last 16 something years hasn't really panned out for them has a lot of potential. They were sad sacks to begin with so to see where they ended up later in life I think could be a riot

Can’t f****** wait. Still quote the inbetweeners like every day with the missus lol

as long as taika waititi is no where near this im excited([he did the terrible american remake](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KADN3xFICHk))
2
stonephillips32 Apr 10, 2026 +6
While I agree it was terrible I’d blame American network sensibilities more than waititi
6
inzur Apr 11, 2026 +2
The reason that show sucked has nothing to do with Taika.
2
asscrackbanditz Apr 11, 2026 +1
Oh shit. The No Ragrats guy is in it.
1
Lil_Mcgee Apr 11, 2026 +1
He just directed a bunch of the episodes. Directors aren't actually that significant when it comes to TV production. At least not compared to film, where they are the primary creative force. With TV it's the writing team, with the showrunner at the top of that structure. In the case of US Inbetweeners that would be Brad Copeland. Taika wasn't involved with the writing at all.

Toxic_Lantern Apr 10, 2026 +4
I’m cautiously excited, but those last movies were… rough. If Netflix just lets them do a low-stakes reunion episode instead of “big plot,” it might actually work.
4
MrPongo Apr 10, 2026 +10
Rough? I think the first movie was really solid, captured the humour from the show well.
10
Andybabez20 Apr 10, 2026 +28
The first movie was solid. It felt like a nice epilogue to the show. The second one for me was not that great as it just undid everything the first movie did.
28
TheJoshider10 Apr 10, 2026 +8
> The second one for me was not that great as it just undid everything the first movie did. I think that's part of the charm of it though. It was already ridiculous that they all landed in good relationships and in Inbetweeners fashion it all goes t*** up and Simon of course ends up with a psychopath. Jay spending the whole movie seeking out his love only for him to obviously not get back with him was great. I prefer the first movie for the reasons you said, but the second is such a fun time with some of the best jokes/moments in the franchise e.g. grow up and the shit slide.

AlonzoMoseley Apr 11, 2026 +1
There are a lot of really obvious routes they could take with this that could work well enough, such as a reunion, stag do, etc but I’m hoping they surprise us with something unusual. Lots to work with for showing us where they’ve all ended up in life, I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

Imolared333 Apr 11, 2026 +1
F yeah! I’m hyped for this!
1
mrbalsawood Apr 11, 2026 +1
Very little about this sounds promising. The second (unnecessary) movie killed The Inbetweenwers (which imo was limping on even in S3). So reheating it now as anything other than a cash grab would’ve taken some world class writing. Throw in the always unwelcome Netflix editorial influence and I fear it will plummet the depths that these legacy sequels usually do.
1
PossibilityNo9406 Apr 11, 2026 +1
In reality if they did another movie now it would just be a carvon copy of at worlds end (without the alien/robot things) where everyone has grown up and has family's but one still just refuses to grow up because they can't let go of the past
1
NaughtyHotDog Apr 11, 2026 +1
Just let it go. Who wants this apart from James Buckley lol

TV_Addict2017 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Some men don't age much . Don't seem to be the same for women Eg Joe Thomas and also Frankie Muniz ... they look barely any different. Elijah Wood and McCauley Culkin too.

Inbetweeners is timeless. Love the series. It’s one of those shows that captured lightning in a bottle at the time, like The Office or Peep Show, and we should just leave it that way. I know we’d all love to see more of the characters, but it never usually goes well, just look at the two films already. Bringing it back for a reunion, especially on Netflix of all things doesn’t fill me with confidence. Really hope they nail it.
2
MasterLawlzReborn Apr 11, 2026 +1
I don't think this is a good idea. The Inbetweeners was basically the British equivalent to Entourage and both shows only worked when the characters were young. i liked White Gold cause it had a different premise but the same style. I'd rather them all make a completely different show together.
1
LaxSagacity Apr 12, 2026 +2
I also liked White Gold, no one elese ever seems to have heard of it. Watched it a couple of times. There's always the risk of doing something like more Inbetweeners but I'd rather they try than not. I'm the same age as the guys, plenty of stuff in the show rang true. It'd be interesting to see where they land later in life, but it just needs to a good idea on its own that could work if the show never existed.

God, this was on just 16 years ago? Feels like 25.

dave8271 Apr 10, 2026 -2
Some revivals work, but sometimes the best thing you can do for something that was good is just let it rest in peace. The Inbetweeners are middle aged men now. I can virtually guarantee this will be shit.
