The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is going to be performed by The Colorado Symphony in concert, film screening with live orchestra

Posted by cyPersimmon9

For many orchestras, part of their programming each year includes movies-in-concert where every note from the original full film score is played by the orchestra, **while the movie is simultaneously projected on screens.** From March 27-29, *The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers* will be shown accompanied by 238 musicians - the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Symphony Chorus, and soloists. If you're in Denver or nearby, or visiting then, this might be of interest! They play in Boettcher Concert Hall. https://www.artscomplex.com/events/detail/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-two-towers-in-concert I saw the Philadelphia Orchestra play *The Fellowship of the Ring* last year. Not ashamed to admit, I cried. Chances are you live near a local orchestra that programs these types of concerts. So worth it

I saw the Empire Strikes Back like this with the Minnesota Orchestra in Minneapolis. Very cool!

If you're able to catch a showing like this, I can't recommend it enough

Was it the extended edition you saw? Have you seen any other films accompanied by an orchestra?

I think it was the theatrical edition. believe it or not that was my first time seeing the movie, wouldn't have it any other way In the past, I've seen Jaws, The Empire Strikes Back, Harry Potter, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial The live orchestra seriously elevates the experience, especially when it's a top orchestra like say the New York Philharmonic

Saw Amadeus at the SLSO last month. It was possibly the best movie-going experience I've ever had.

What's sorta funny is this is how the original version of movies did music for film in the 1800s and early 1900s. SLSO always puts on a good show.

Sounds phenomenal. I didn't realize things like this were done *with* the movie playing. I assumed they played the songs like in order of appearance in the movie.

I applaud all the people involved that can make the whole thing work seamlessly, can't be easy

Oh yes. It’s completely worth it. Boston has done it a few times. I get a bit of sensory overload with the screen and watching the players at the same time but any regular person would enjoy it. Even if not into orchestral music.

I went to one for How to Train Your Dragon and it was awesome. Doing one for La La Land this weekend which is being conducted by Justin Horowitz. Unbelievably excited. Love live music man.
