Just stumbled on this flick. I thought it was pretty good. Got horrible rotten tomatoes audience and critic score and idk why
*spoiler warning*
Ultimately the guy didnt care about the girl, hes a scumbag didnt want to rescue her, she kills herself.
Granted the suicide wad a bit dramatic but I thought the way it tied in w he didnt care about her was subtly done.
One review says it didnt discuss any history of the time. Im rlly annoying w 50s and 60s movies in general throwing in historical events. It feels rlly forced most the times.
Other criticism is its slow which it kind is but it fits. The gangs stuck in a boring town. The language pretty much everything Dafoe says is a line of outdated slang "bingo"
Thought it didnt deserve such bad reviews. Maybe its copying rebel without a cause idk.
wait are you talking about The Loveless with willem dafoe? that movie's actually pretty solid, weird that it got trashed so hard
the slow pacing works perfect for what they were going for - these bikers are just drifting through this dead end town with nothing happening. dafoe's whole vibe with that old school slang was great, felt authentic instead of trying too hard like some period pieces do

Yeah idk why it got such bad reviews. Some of them are about how its too masculine.
I just watched pool hall junkies that one got great reviews for audience score on rotten tomatoes and I thought it was so cliche corny and fed a lot more stereotypes but in rlly obvious sitcommy ways.
So idk rotten tomatoes rlly surprises cuz sometimes so off.

This episode of TCM Slumberground (RIP!) did a great deep dive.

I liked it. I've seen a good deal of biker exploitation flicks and this was a fun little study. Pretty good one for first time directors. It really captured the feel of those sleazy exploitation movies.
