What’s up with all these world leaders suddenly planning national addresses today?

I recall seeing someone else mention that oil and gas tankers take a long time to arrive. 1st Apr is when the tankers that are stuck due to the Iran war were supposed to arrive. Since energy stocks are now officially late (as in they did not arrive when they are supposed to), this is a very good time to make announcements about how the government is going to solve this.

Is it a coincidence that today is April Fools' Day?

No_Anywhere_9068 Apr 1, 2026 +25
Fortunately most of the people that idolise trump also can’t read or write so we should be okay

This is a valid take. "History is written by those who can."

Seriously, I don't think anyone know who Reagan is. I mean I know he was an actor but that's it.

> will remember to tell my grandkids that Trump was a f****** piece of shit. Don't forget to tell about the people that voted for him and the people choose not to vote "out of protest".

How old are you now? If you're having grandkids jn the next few years... Okay, maybe? But if you're envisioning a future 10+ years from now then I don't think you'll want to be telling your grandkids that unless you're ready to be disappeared.

How about you disappear?

I get its a meme, but Malaysia exports oil.

>The Malaysian government has entered “crisis mode” in response to the ongoing global [energy supply](https://www.scmp.com/topics/energy?module=inline&pgtype=article) disruption, its transport minister has warned. >“This is not a laughing or joking matter. It is a very, very serious matter,” Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on Tuesday, as quoted by the New Straits Times newspaper. “For the past month, energy costs have risen by more than 100 per cent.”
19
emilygrey4eva Apr 1, 2026 +19
Yes, cause they subsidise oil for domestic consumption. What he is really getting at is the opportunity cost of subsidising fuel while prices go up globally. And of course, hoarding.
19
FireTempest Apr 1, 2026 +3
Malaysia is a net importer of oil.
3
Altruistic_Buy_3800 Apr 1, 2026 +60
The average American has no idea the problems this nonsense is creating for the rest of the world.

FireTempest Apr 1, 2026 +17
Doesn't matter what they know about the world, they will feel it at the pump and they will deserve it.
17
SearsTower442 Apr 1, 2026 +9
They will feel it at the pump but they will always blame the wrong people because they are incapable of thinking critically or admitting mistakes Source: I am American

Also American. We feel it but they find any reason to defend this bullshit.

The whole world is feeling the bite of the energy crisis. So much for Trump making a safer world. It also shows that we need to move away from fossil fuels.

Outrageous-Ad2493 Apr 1, 2026 +5
How three vile men and their corrupt governments can cause so much pain and suffering for billions is breathtaking. This has to end. There are more of us than there are of them.

sub-a-dub-dub Apr 1, 2026 +14
I really hope all these countries that are starting to suffer from an energy crisis know where the blame is to be put: America. Everyone needs to pull their heads out of their asses and stop blaming “Trump” and start blaming the seventy million that voted for him, and the near ninety million that didn’t vote at all. This is Americas fault. You get what you vote for. Trump is a reflection of America.
14
Crit0r Apr 1, 2026 +7
I wish Trump could be held accountable for all this by the whole world, but that's not going to happen. The fact that Americans voted for this twice speaks volumes about how many Americans there are. It will take centuries to rebuild trust, and I wish that Americans would feel the consequences of their actions a little more, but they won't...

It's OK, all they have to do is pop over to the Strait of Hormuz with some buckets. Apparently the oil is there for the taking. /s

From gemini: Summary: Malaysia sells its "expensive" oil to the world and buys "cheaper" oil for its own use, pocketing the difference to fund the national budget and subsidies.

But it is correct. Why the downvote?
4
Ok-Imagination-494 Apr 1, 2026 -4
How can Malaysia have an energy crisis when it is a net oil exporter?
-4
Awkward-Candle-4977 Apr 1, 2026 +7
Public transport is very rare including in the capital. And fuel are heavily subsidized
7
blahandblahagain Apr 1, 2026 +3
I've got to disagree with that statement about public transport being rare, KL has plenty of train lines, the MRT, LRT and monorail are usually packed during the day, same too with the RapidKL bus lines, public transport in KL may not be the best, but I'd say it's mediocre at worst. It does get rarer outside of KL and the Klang Valley area though, and are outright non-existent in some states.
3
Used_Return9095 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I was in KL and there was plenty of people taking the LRT and it’s pretty decent. How is it rare?
1
Background-Corgi7054 Apr 1, 2026 +6
Singaporean here. Malaysia’s public transport is not accessible in most cases. For example, you’ll need to drive your car and park it at an LRT station before taking it to work. Many stations are built in the middle of nowhere. Impossible to walk and nothing is truly connected. The recent MRT stations are much better.
6
Used_Return9095 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Ik i’m malaysian. Public transportation can always be better but I wouldn’t say it is necessarily rare in KL though as what the above comment said. Melaka much worse That’s what i was commenting on
2
The9isback Apr 1, 2026
Do you know what "very rare" means?

geekyengineer Apr 1, 2026 +14
Because we export most of the oil we produce and import oil for domestic use. Hence why we have an energy crisis.
14
DonkeyTron42 Apr 1, 2026 +3
Like the US?
3
SaveOurBolts Apr 1, 2026 +3
No.  US import for domestic supply is about 30%, only because we have refineries specially designed process heavy crude from (mostly) Canada. The rest of our refineries could process our own domestic light crude through any duration of ‘crisis’. The barrel price rising or shortages internationally caused by the Hormuz blockage can create gas price fluctuations here, but would not actually affect our supply of oil or fuel. We get almost none of our oil from the strait. Fertilizer is a different story
3
ViewAdditional7400 Apr 1, 2026 +6
There are different types of crude. Malaysia produces a finer product not suitable for some uses which it needs.
