The Manosphere is embarrassingly late.
Supporting him the first time around was kinda understandable. I still think you're an idiot for it, but like.... f***. But then like, all he actually did was lower taxes for the very rich, get people killed by lying about COVID, tear gas a church for a photo op, etc. etc.
Supporting him in 2020 was pretty damn unforgivable. You had learned he wasn't going to "Drain" anything. You had learned he was dangerous in a crisis and could not be trusted to help us out - let alone even just to give us truthful information regarding a serious, global public health crisis.
Supporting him after Jan 6, 2021 was just treasonous. He refused to honor the results of our elections and fomented a violent act of terrorism in our nation's capital. People died.
Supporting him in 2024* was _insanity_. With project 2025 out in the open and all his previous actions and words... anyone with half of a brain had fully internalized that he a) lies like we breathe, b) would use every lever of power accessible to him to simply feed his ego and his bank account, no matter how corrupt or illegal and c) would cause widespread death and suffering through - at an absolute minimum - gross negligence and straight up lying to the American Populace.
They got duped by divide and conquer. They got duped by the most obvious propaganda machine in history ala Fox News. I'm glad they are waking up (now that gas prices are raising and it's impacting them personally and directly, smh) but they should be eternally embarrassed.
The path forward involves public apology. Ownership of the roles they played coddling and platforming treasonous war criminals.

I think (hope) Telerico, Mamdani, even Platner have kinda shifted the vibe. I think Newsom was their default for sure in 2025, but through gritted teeth they will HAVE to accept that we need a genuine “peaceful warrior” candidate for 2028 in the mold of these guys. Beshear fits in the best. I think he pulls ahead late next year as the dark horse candidate, particularly after the messiness of the California Governor’s Primary makes everyone feel skeeved out about the state.

No, primaries do and people seem to forget that. The DNC has superdelegates, but those have not been the deciding factor in the primaries. For Hillary, Biden, or Kamala. Kamala was a weird one though as she was the VP candidate of the person who actually won the primary

Superdelegates no longer get to vote on the first ballot after people freaked out about them in 2016.

You have to remember that a good many of these voters are looking for a personality. It’s why W won and a lot of why Chump won in 2016. Pritzker and Newsom have the type of personality that people want to see. Mark Kelly I don’t know about but apparently Beshear might be a stick in the mud.
The average American reads at a 7th or 8th grade level with 54% reading at a 6th grade or below level. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that anyone participating in this sub is well above the average. Chump reads at maybe a 4th grade level at best and that’s what resonates with voters; he’s one of them. They’re not going to vote for someone using $10 words when they only have $0.10 comprehension level. A large portion of voters want someone that talks to them, not down to them. It’s been a Democratic problem since the ‘80s and they still don’t understand this.

Too many people just don't pay any f****** attention.
They just blithely assumed that because he was nominated, then surely he must be a reasonable candidate (despite his former cabinet telling everyone he was horrible and incompetent and corrupt). Surely he'd appoint people that know what they're doing, etc (despite him f****** telling everyone he was going to pick sycophants and toadies).
People need to own up to having been taken for a ride, and realize that they can't trust the Republican party/voters to pick someone who's competent or responsible anymore, nor can they trust that Republicans will keep an out of control President in check. The ultimate aim of the Republican party since basically Watergate has been to remove any and all controls on a Republican President, while undermining any and all actions by the Democrats. This is not the least bit sustainable in a democracy/republic, and the Republican party needs to be purged of those enablers at minimum, or perhaps even replaced by an actual conservative (rather than Reactionary) party entirely.

> Every president needs advisors who can fill in gaps in the president's personal knowledge and expertise.
The problem here is that President selects these advisors. When limiting this to the Cabinet positions and the like, then the Senate weighs in and confirms these choices.
Sooo... if the toddler in chief must be babysat it is never a sane expectation that said toddler will select "adults". We see this very clearly in the contrast between Trump's first term and his second. His appointments were a mess the first round... but the sheer sycophancy and incompetency of his second term is staggering.
Therefore, no we cannot expect "adults" to even be in the room.
Oh... but maybe the adults can still save us. The Senate must confirm, right?
And here's where we get into the larger problem - the GOP.
Trump is not the problem. He's just a symptom of the larger problems. The GOP is one of the larger problems. All the way from top to bottom. They GOP has proven themselves to be incompetent in the House and worthless in the Senate.
Yup. The idea that it was ever sane to elect Trump and hope others would prevent Trump from screwing things too badly... was indeed braindead.

“Actual conservatism” isn’t some noble thing we’ve drifted away from. It’s exactly what you’re watching play out now, we’re seeing unbridled conservatism in action.
Conservatism isn’t a coherent philosophy you can cleanly define and admire. It’s a pattern. The pattern is the point. Hypocrisy isn’t a flaw. It’s the operating system. Same with bigotry and deference to money and power. “Law and order” means protection for me, punishment for you, and it always has. It’s not subtle.
“Limited government” is the longest-running joke in the whole act. Limited for who? Not for the people they don’t like. Not for the causes they care about. Under conservatism, the state can reach into your body, your speech, your private life with no problem at all. The only things that ever get “limited” are inconveniences to their donors or whatever dumbass culture-war nonsense the dumbass base is being whipped into this week.
“Traditional values” is just a softer way of saying hierarchy. It’s a sorting mechanism. In-groups, out-groups, who gets dignity and who doesn’t. Dress it up however you want, the point of it is that some people matter more than others as a function of their wealth. That’s how conservatives define morality.
“Free markets” are important right up until the moment competition threatens someone important. Then it’s subsidies, bailouts, regulatory capture, and whatever else keeps the winners winning. The market is sacred until it isn’t useful anymore.
If you’re looking for people who actually try to live by the brochure version of all this, you’re basically left with libertarians. Of course the actual touted philosophy falls apart the second reality shows up. “No safety net” sounds a lot better right up until you need one. Turns out you do, in fact, want a fire department pretty much every time there is a fire.

30
PaxDramaticusMar 30, 2026

Probably true. But an off-ramp on its own will just invite ex-MAGAs to get duped by the next grifter to get popular. It's much like how in the Bush Jr. years a bunch of Americans embarassed themselves by supporting an incompetently run Iraq war that used a lot of torture and abuse of innocent civilians to get a lot of nothing accomplished and was all initiated by lies about WMDs.
And instead of showing the slightest degree of introspection, instead of questioning how they could be so easily duped into hating and supporting violence against innocent people, Bush's fans just responded, "No, no, see, I was actually libertarian all along!" Instead of a re-think, they did a re-brand.
MAGA is evidence that something in American culture is rotten. Name changes will do nothing but hide it until a dupe can be found to sell it to. To fix the rot, people have got to stop being so willing to be duped.

No, what we need is what happened in Germany after they were defeated in WWII: [Denazification](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denazification).
Specifically, how the Allies fostered [responsibility and collective guilt](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denazification#Responsibility_and_collective_guilt) for what their support of Nazis led to:
> In 1945, the Public Relations and Information Services Control Group of the British Element (CCG/BE) of the Allied Control Commission for Germany began to issue directives to officers in charge of producing newspapers and radio broadcasts for the German population to emphasize "the moral responsibility of all Germans for Nazi crimes". Similarly, among US authorities, such a sense of collective guilt was "considered a prerequisite to any long-term education of the German people"
> Using the German press, which was under Allied control, as well as posters and pamphlets, a program was conducted which was intended to acquaint ordinary Germans with what had taken place in the concentration camps. An example of this was the use of posters with images of concentration camp victims coupled to text such as "YOU ARE GUILTY OF THIS!" or "These atrocities: your fault!"
> English writer James Stern recounted an example in a German town soon after the German surrender:
>> [a] crowd is gathered around a series of photographs which though initially seeming to depict garbage instead reveal dead human bodies. Each photograph has a heading "WHO IS GUILTY?". The spectators are silent, appearing hypnotised and eventually retreat one by one. The placards are later replaced with clearer photographs and placards proclaiming "THIS TOWN IS GUILTY! YOU ARE GUILTY!"
> A number of films showing the concentration camps were made and screened to the German public, such as Die Todesmühlen, released in the US zone in January 1946, and Welt im Film No. 5 in June 1945. A film that was never finished due partly to delays and the existence of the other films was Memory of the Camps. According to Sidney Bernstein, chief of Psychological Warfare Division, the objective of the film was:
>> To shake and humiliate the Germans and prove to them beyond any possible challenge that these German crimes against humanity were committed and that the German people – and not just the Nazis and SS – bore responsibility.
> Immediately upon the liberation of the concentration camps, many German civilians were forced to see the conditions in the camps, bury rotting corpses and exhume mass graves. In some instances, civilians were also made to provide items for former concentration camp inmates.

I just watched a documentary on this subculture and the content creators didn’t give off incel vibes to me. They seemed much more like just sexist idiotic manipulative dbags.
From the looks of things they did okay with women, but gave off the vibe of those asshat “negging” guys from a couple decades ago. Some of the women around them appeared to have insecurities that were being actively preyed upon while others felt like they were just making a business decision to hold their nose and use the guys’ popularity to increase their own exposure.
I could totally buy that their fanbase is largely made up of incels though. Not sure who else would spend time listening to these guys.

The creators do "fine" by manipulation, but the big thing is that they *do* appeal to incels and other groups of men, especially young men, who haven't gotten what they were promised (some of which is a legitimate grievance, even).
The real issue is that they give out dogshit advice, then when it doesn't work, "well, here's this course I happen to be selling". It's a cult at this point.
Giving real advice is risky. It might not work. Teaching people they aren't getting what they're owed? Evergreen, and profitable.

They're mainly cryptofascists, like in the Netflix documentary, just let them talk long enough, and they'll start up with antisemitism with their conspiracy theories. It starts with telling young men about self improvement and then it's about indoctrination into Cristo facisism.

Incels are *far* from the only subgroup in the manosphere.
There are for example men's rights activists, incels, Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW), pick-up artists (PUA), and fathers' rights groups (and plenty of others, tbh).
The common belief is simply being anti-feminism and believing that feminism has caused negative effects against men. So the manosphere is chock full of just average, run-of-the-mill misogynists. And *tons* of them have wives or girlfriends... even daughters...

Less so that and more that their lives have gotten materially worse over the last...idk like 5+ decades and the promise of the "American dream" is not materializing.
However, instead of looking at what the root causes are (wealth extraction in basically every corner of the market, social benefit cuts, etc) they get told a lie ("it's the minorities!") and believe it because it's easier and / or that lie "confirms" their fucked up worldview.

The pious and annoying thing is an actual problem. Some dems engage in a extreme purity testing, are demeaning, and unable to compromise.

This is always comparing the loudest voices on Twitter to the other side's administration though.
Fairly extreme people on the left said "a vote for kamala is a vote for genocide. So don't vote"
As a comparison, Trump himself has said the most outrageous lies and horrible stuff, is in the Epstein gives etc etc.. And mainstream voices on fox news etc have spouted those lies as well.
There's no comparison when it comes to things kamala or Biden said, or what "left" mainstream news was saying.
So, it's not that you're totally wrong about this stuff, but I think that this issue is a real beat up, fuelled by right wing bots.

Rinse and repeat.

From my observations, the working class conservatives will accept increasing hardship and subjugation so long as that which is 'other' is kept beneath them in the social (racial/ethnic/gender) hierarchy.
They know they're getting fucked. They are fully aware that the GOP is an all power and wealth to the rich at all costs establishment. They know that corporate greed is choking their beloved mom and pop small town world to death. They know that Trump is the exact opposite of all that they say they stand for and is openly corrupt. They know it all. Yet they continue to line up and vote for the machine that is choking them in the name of corporate profit because the other option is to vote for a democrat and, I say this with zero sarcasm, they would rather cast the Earth into the sun and have no more planet than vote for a democrat. The team sports tribalism is ABSOLUTE and above EVERYTHING.

1
notapoliticalaltMar 30, 2026

I do actually think this is more relevant than perhaps some people might think. Now, I do actually think that there is more to unpack than this alone.
One thing that’s really important to maga is aesthetics. Essentially, they want the appearance of something, whether or not it’s true. But the problem is, if you put yourself in a position where something has to be tested, well, the thing you want to believe, may not actually be true. As such, I think this, along with some other things are basically forcing a lot of people, both men and women, to Face the fact that a lot of the things that are promoted by stereotypical gender norms actually really suck. In particular, if you want to establish this “alpha warrior“ ethos, but then are troubled by the thought of going to war then it kind of tells you something you don’t want to have to face.
Anyway, the problem here is that all of these people are frauds or want to be fooled to varying degrees. What is going to collapse? The Maga coalition is having to actually confront reality, which, for something like a war, is not easily just covered up with another lie and bravado. Of course, there will always be people who say the sky is green and 2+2 = 5, if Trump says so, but a lot of people are going to have some parts of their identity tested and they are going to find that they don’t actually like or want it.

>One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.
Carl Sagan,"The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark"
>I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
>The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.

I don't understand the appeal the manosphere has... Frankly, they're the type of men my grandfather (who raised me) would consider pretty unmanly.
Being a man was about honor. But honor wasn't getting angry at petty shit and getting into fights. Honor was fulfilling your promises, **taking responsibility for mistakes**, doing the right thing especially when it's hard.
Being a man was about duty, but not blind devotion or rigid hierarchy. Duty was carrying the burdens of your family *because you love them*. It was showing up when life pulls you in lots of directions. It was checking in to make sure they're doing alright.
I could go on. It's not like he lived up to his own ideas, but just like any parent, he wanted me to do the best I could. That's literally what he said, everyday when he dropped me off at school from elementary to high school, "Try your best. That's all we ask."
Manosphere men do not try their best. They are dishonorable. They are unrepentant when they're wrong, too emotional when merely questioned or challenged, especially by a woman. They have no sense of duty beyond their wallets and egotism.
