'The Miniature Wife' review: Show has big tricks up its sleeve — Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen lead this fantastical and surprisingly substantive dramedy.
I started it yesterday. I like how it completely leans into how ridiculous the premise is. I don't know if I'd say it is a good show but it is definitely a fun one.

I watched the entire season, just finished it few minutes ago, I enjoyed it, Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen committed to its ridiculous premise, it was fun to watch.
I do agree with the reviewer that the series felt unfocused in the middle of the season, thankfully, I think this series has a strong finale.

Yea, I like a good 'filler' occassionally, so long as you're giving me a complete plot in the episode. These shows that are one long plot (and feel like a movie spread over the length of the show) can get tediously boring and feel like they're absolutely stretching out the material.

That’s why I love Liz Banks. Leading lady looks but she jumps at the chance to get weird.

On an interview with Conan O’Brien, he said that Elizabeth Banks is a character actress trapped in a leading lady’s body.

Yeah, it feels like one long, high-budget Twilight Zone bit that somehow escaped the writers’ room. I’d give it three episodes before deciding if it’s actually “good.”

I say, if it’s fun, it’s good. We need much more of this good in our lives, in our 🇺🇸, ESPECIALLY, these days. 🌈💖🐸🗽💙🇺🇸😇🇺🇸💙🐸💖🙏🏼

Maybe because it’s on Peacock or because it stars Elizabeth Banks, but every time I see a commercial for this, I feel like it’s a 30 Rock parody. Like Leap Day William

I am struggling to get through the season because of how awful the husband and wife are to one another. It’s like The incredible Shrinking Woman + War of the Roses

Same stopped watching after first episode. Another show where every character is a pos. It is tiring to watch to be honest. Great premise but lack of any character to root for ruined it for me.

This was how it felt for me when I tried watching The Bear. Just everyone being awful and everyone always fighting. I couldn't hack it. Had to quit.

These days it seems there are very few shows with characters I can actually LIKE. What does this say about our culture? Or about the people who work in the entertainment industry? Do they lack character or soul?

Yes they’re terrible people like I don’t want to waste my time with their bad energy- they needed to write in more vulnerability not just calloused hostility.

That's what I liked about it. Without the dark edge it would have been too lighthearted for me.

I just finished. Enjoy dark comedy and complicated storylines. It had a really good ending too, so I loved it.

Binged it yesterday and while it’s a somewhat okay show, that family is just awful. As people and to each other. They just constantly make the viewer dislike them with such immature and petty decisions. It’s not bad but also don’t really expect to see a second season come out anytime soon. Idk. Could’ve worked if I didn’t find everyone so unlikable.

Or if all the stuff with Les and Lindy tormenting each other was _all in their heads._ Like, the stress of the upcoming deadline and the lack of sleep and the guilt over shrinking Lindy was making him paranoid that Lindy was out to get him. You could’ve had the moat in the bedroom but have Lindy just be like, “What the hell brought on this?”. And on Lindy’s side, have it be that she has what’s known in _Hush_ as “Writer’s Brain” where she’s constantly coming up with wacky scenarios and flawed personalities like she’s creating characters, but is projecting them onto other people when such traits don’t exist or not to the degree she thinks.

I couldn't stand the wife after her affair and then complained about moving to a RED STATE. as if that's not something everyone secretly wants to do.

Years ago I read a book on movie physics, and I can never get it out of my head what I learned about what would happen if you theoretically reduced in size (which since atoms are mostly empty space, its not entirely impossible):
Your mass would remain the same, so you'd be crushed by gravity. And if that didn't happen, you'd freeze to death, because you'd have to consume the same amount of calories to retain your body heat.

The realism of the premise doesn't bother me. It's one of those stories you just have to hand wave like Back to the Future, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc.
I actually liked the series.
I just thought some of the characters reactions were not true to what had come earlier.
I agree with everyones comments that the family is made up of not very nice characters, and every time you think they're about to go through a redemption arch, they backslide considerably.
Still, I'd like to see a Season 2.

The scale is ridiculously inconsistent and it's driving me crazy. She's supposed to be 6 inches tall, but in some scenes she's more like 3 inches and in some she's like 1 inch. At no point is she anywhere CLOSE to 6 inches. It's like the writers have no idea what 6 inches looks like. Six inches is about the length of a dollar bill. In most scenes, she's about the size of one of his fingers. But also, a fly is about half the size she is and is a mortal threat to her. It's so off. Have the writers never seen a ruler? They couldn't get a dollhouse in the writer's room?

Characters are not likable. I blame the show runner because the actors lean so hard to agressive it come off campy without being kitschy so they’re just mean. It’s a bad vibe. Wish it was more playful like they didn’t give us any reason to root for these characters they’re just bad people. Wanted to like it. I can’t keep watching it’s just not pleasant or compelling.

It could have been so good...But the show is an ode to toxic behaviors. The characters are all insufferable pricks, I felt cheated and forced myself to watch to the end hoping for some redemption, but nope, they never learn and just become more and more insufferable to point of ruining all fun and charms the show could have had.

That’s really surprising. I read the short story about 10 years ago and it really was a nothing. The writer is almost completely unknown. I have no idea how they found the short story and got it to series.
I’ll have to give this show a try.

The short story only shows the husband's POV, by necessity this shows more, but I think they did a good job of fleshing out the other characters, the twist of the short story is revealed pretty early and telegraphed instead of being a surprise. I'm only half way through but my main complaint is not many laughs, the work storyline feels like Better Off Ted without any good jokes.

She has an affair with his miniature coworker and in response the husband kills the coworker( in the show the coworker manages to kill the bird instead and she kills the cat before the cat kills her - the husband took their cat out of home not miniaturize as in the tv show, then brought it back to kill her) and then it's like War of the Roses when the husband gets small to find and kill his wife but then it ends.

I guess nobody and I mean nobody will say how this is kind of like Honey we shrunk ourselves or the Honey I blew up the kid which stared Rick Morranis from the 90s movies. I just watched EP 1 and that is all I kept thinking about when I saw the husband. A crazy Scientist with an agenda to be better then everyone.
Good job Hollywood once again you just remade another show or movie

Just finished episode 6 and I have to say, it’s been a pleasant surprise. The acting between the two leads is exceptional as they are all in. Makes the storyline seem less impossible. Light and dark at times…I’m hooked!

I love Elizabeth Banks. Totally had to watch this show. Kind of felt like it was just war of the roses with miniature people.
Honestly, my favorite character was the daughter. She really shined.
And I totally didn't like how it ended.

Hated or didn't care about any of the characters. Unlikeable people.
No one I could connect with. I just wanted 1 character I can like and root for.
Couldn't finish the series.
Dark comedy is good but if there is no charm it is exhausting negative energy.
