Awesome. I remember seeing him in the Mummy and just thinking "this guy is a pretty funny actor". Then I saw him in Spartacus and thought "this guy is an incredible actor".

Yep, u/gangstaqueefs, I loved season 1 and was sad to hear of Andy’s passing.

I had my misgivings about the new show but I think it's actually pretty good. I hope we get a S2

somesketchykid Mar 27, 2026 +2
What?! Its out?

Game-Blouses-23 Mar 28, 2026 +10
Spartacus: House of Ashur It follows the character Ashur in an alternate timeline in which he was not killed on Mount Vesuvius I have not seen it yet, but I am intrigued. I always thought Ashur was one of the more interesting characters in the show.
10
baron_von_helmut Mar 28, 2026 +5
Yeah it's awesome.
5
Jay_Nova1 Mar 27, 2026 +13
House of Ashur was great, worth watching if you haven't yet.
13
airinato Mar 27, 2026 +37
That release on netflix was so confusing. I watched the 1st season, hyped up for the 2nd. Then comes some weird prequel season that didn't make sense why. Then the 3rd season opens with a completely different Spartacus, it took me a bit to realize it was suppose to be Spartacus, and then you look it up and you're like FUUUCCKK, life's short man.

somesketchykid Mar 27, 2026 +17
There is a really good documentary detailing the end of Andy Whitfields life. Its truly heart breaking but a fantastic documentary.

Yeah, his death hit me hard and I never even watched the show. My brother died of the exact same type of cancer 3 months after him..
14
Budderfingerbandit Mar 27, 2026 +5
The documentary about him was good but very sad watching someone go from peak fitness to a skeleton. RIP.

I will never get over seeing him get replaced in season 2 and refusing to watch it...then finding out years later that he died. Such an idiot.
3
indianajoes Mar 27, 2026 +64
I thought the same but about him in The Mummy and then Agents of Shield
64
Banjo-Oz Mar 28, 2026 +28
He is amazing in Agents of SHIELD. His last scene on the show is brilliantly done. Then again, I am biased in that I consider AoS the best thing Marvel has ever done.
28
Akussa Mar 28, 2026 +5
I fully regret not giving that show a chance when it was new. I dropped off half way through Season 1 (like basically everyone else did) and man do I regret it. Once they stopped caring about what was going on in the main MCU that show took on a life of its own. Hands down the best Ghostrider that's ever been done. Every single one of those characters deserved a place in the great MCU. Quake and YoYo deserve to suit up with the rest of the Avengers and kick some ass.

I remember doing Drama at school with his nephew and thinking “this guy is a terrible actor”. The nephew, not John. John rules. Was very excited to see him pop up in The Last of Us.
259
Few-Road6238 Mar 27, 2026 +63
His opening scene monologue in s1 was excellent like it really set the tone and showed the insane range of John Hannah. I no longer saw Jonathan Carnahan on screen at that moment
63
IsaacAndTired Mar 27, 2026 +6
He should be the lead in a 28 Days Later movie. I don't know why, but I feel like he'd fit right into that role.
6
Henry-What Mar 27, 2026 +125
He set the tone for The Last Of Us. If only they were able to keep that tone...
125
GrecoRomanGuy Mar 27, 2026 +143
"But what if, for example, the planet were to get slightly *warmer?*" I don't say this often, but that line literally put a pit in my stomach. It's an outstanding adaptation of the material that grounds it in a kernel of real life possibility, and the casual way in which he delivers that terrifying monologue set the tone like you said.
143
Houseplantkiller123 Mar 27, 2026 +36
Yeah, I felt legitimately unsettled during that. Excellent acting by John Hannah.
36
uncanny_mac Mar 27, 2026 +25
My reaction was legit "Ah cool, this guy from the mummy!" to "we are all so fucked..."
25
George__Parasol Mar 28, 2026 +7
Exact same reaction. Chilling delivery. And great acting from Big Head to really sell Hannah’s delivery. He goes from cheeky talk show host to equally chilled by what Hannah is saying. I also loved the opening of the second episode. Obviously the very final scene is chilling where the mycologist compels the officer to bomb Jakarta. But I think in retrospect, the most chilling part is that in most of these deadly outbreak movies, the military and the scientists gravely screw something up in response. This scene paints the picture that even when they act with extreme timeliness and precaution and go straight to the experts, they’re already doomed. They were doomed before they even knew they were supposed to act, and it doesn’t matter that they acted correctly. It was doomed to happen.
7
deathrowslave Mar 27, 2026 +15
I just watched it and the camera pans to the audience while he's speaking and they're all frozen and staring like zombies. Great scene.

Check out A Touch of Cloth, it's a spoof style detective comedy show with him as the lead. From the same guy behind Black Mirror of all things.

Yeaaaah! Him as Batiatus is immediately what I think of when I see his face.
24
pasher5620 Mar 27, 2026 +21
Then he showed up for a *criminally* short part in the first episode of The Last of Us and immediately set the tone of the show. It’s bizarre to me that he isn’t far bigger an actor with the level of skill he clearly has.
21
Fallenangel152 Mar 27, 2026 +18

He was absolutely amazing, and season 4 as a whole was fantastic. Self Control is one of the best episodes of TV I've ever watched.
7
Banjo-Oz Mar 28, 2026 +4
AoS is the best thing Marvel has ever done, IMO. Closest we ever got to a Buffy/Angel spiritual successor in tone and writing, and yet its own thing too. S4 is my favourite season, I think. Just amazing television.

Rainbwned Mar 27, 2026 +25
I do recommend it, but also anyone will tell you those first two episodes are rough. Id go as far as saying they are not good, but then it hits its stride and never looks back.
25
codetaku0 Mar 27, 2026 +6
That's always a good warning to give. And so much less fear-inducing than "the first two seasons are rough" like some shows still get recommended as lmao
6
zelyre Mar 27, 2026 +17
The first few episodes are a mix of "We have 300 at home" and "If I put the dial on the TV between channels 2-3 and cross my eyes while I look at the static, I can make out skinemax" The show finds its identity a few episodes in - it still swings in quality, but the good outweighs the bad.
17
RoyPlotter Mar 27, 2026 +10
Check out A Touch of Cloth. Absolutely hilarious Brit TV show and he’s incredible in it. It’s more along the lines of Airplane and the like.
10
LegoC97 Mar 27, 2026 +5
He’s the main character in a very overlooked British police procedural parody called “A Touch of Cloth” that I highly recommend.

You aren't lying. That is a head of hair that belongs in the Smithsonian. He's a timeless hunk ... And that's in a movie with Rachel 'chiseled profile' weisz. I went to eastern Morocco just to roll in the sand she walked on but nobody aged as well as Oded.
38
Banjo-Oz Mar 28, 2026 +20
Oded had a role in the reboot of V where he first appears uncredited as a mysterious silhouette... but his silhouette is so recognisable, it is hilarious when he says "you don't know who I am"... and my brother just said "I f****** do, it's Carlos from Resident Evil!".

smb275 Mar 27, 2026 +52
Man that was some bullshit to hear. And they announced it after S2 filming was done, so I sure hope that one doesn't end on any kind of cliffhanger.
52
TheLastMongo Mar 27, 2026 +29
Unfortunately it sounds like it does.
29
pyotrdevries Mar 27, 2026 +9
Season 1 didn't. Wrapped up nicely. So who says they didn't do the same for 2 even if they thought they were still continuing.
9
TalkinTrek Mar 27, 2026 +9
There's an interview where they said it wasn't written as 'an ending' but that doesn't necessarily mean dramatic cliffhanger, we'll just have to see
9
5panks Mar 27, 2026 +19
It had really low ratings. The only reason it really even has a season two is because Paramount greenlit two seasons from the get go. It's hard to keep making a show that's getting beat by Tulsa King reruns the week it comes out.
19
ArcadianDelSol Mar 28, 2026 +9
It was beat by episodes of DEEP SPACE NINE. A show from 1993.
9

857
AudibleNod Mar 27, 2026 +209
I saw him and thought "Oh, he's gonna die sacrificing himself." Then he didn't. But by that time, I didn't want him to die.
209
WavesAndSaves Mar 27, 2026 +103
Jonathan's great because he's kind of a buffoon who's only in it for glory and riches but he still locks in when he needs to. Most other movies would have simply relegated him to comic relief or something, but he absolutely holds his own. He reads the hieroglyphics on the Book of the Dead to stop and control the warrior mummies to make them kill Anck-Su-Namun. He's a great shot with a rifle who takes out multiple guys during the pygmy attack. He fistfights Anck-Su-Namun to distract her while Alex is bringing Evy back. He's such a great character.
103
DReagan47 Mar 27, 2026 +58
Plus he grabs the large diamond off the top of the pyramid at great personal risk. The man is a hero
58
WavesAndSaves Mar 27, 2026 +66
"It's not worth your life, you idiot!" "YES IT IS! **YES IT IS!**" What an icon.
66
Sekh765 Mar 28, 2026 +24
The scene where you find out he wasn't bullshitting and he really was a crack rifle shot was a great payoff for him.
24
Skulltaffy Mar 28, 2026 +18
I remember seeing a theory that he actually did serve in the army, because the timing actually does match up. Hence his comment about also being familiar with danger (can't remember the exact line) that Rick treated like a joke, or how a lot of his "buffoonish" actions could also be, y'know, ptsd. Which is a *great* bit of subtext, honestly.
18
raknor88 Mar 28, 2026 +6
The man is a buffoon that is full of a LOT of hot air. But when the chips are down he actually has the nerves needed to get stuff done.

Pretty sure in the last one all his scenes were added later. 90% of his scenes he didn't directly interact with the rest of the cast.

He needs to run into a room, stop dead in his tracks, then put on a shocked face as Imhotep does some weird shit

If the first one takes place in 1926, will this new one take place in 1955?  ...to match the 1999 to 2028 in real time?
45
Astrosaurus42 Mar 27, 2026 +65
That's wild to see it typed out the difference from 1926 to 1955 is the same as 1999 to 2028. I feel like SO MUCH HAPPENED from 26-55, more than what I've lived through.

My dad is 74, he grow up in a very rural town in north of France, in a house without electricity until he was like 10, and now he has a smartphone and sometime watch factory process compilation on youtube or russian dashcam accident, It’s crazy when you think about it
16
A_Martian_Potato Mar 27, 2026 +9
I know we haven't quite had a Great Depression or WW2, but a lot has happened since 1999. The 9/11 attacks, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the introduction of the Euro, the 2008 financial crash, the Indian Ocean Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, the invention of smart phones, the Arab Spring, Fukushima, the rise of social media, the rise and fall of ISIS, Cryptocurrencies, the Hong Kong protests, COVID-19, the rise of AI, leaving out a ton.
9
Luigi_loves_Mario Mar 27, 2026 +4
Idk, 911 and Covid is wild too. But then WW2 and the first Nuke is insane
4
AgentElman Mar 27, 2026 +7
Yes, and Brendan Fraser will survive a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge.
7
GenevieveLeah Mar 27, 2026 +8
They’d better. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz together are my nomination for the most beautiful couple in a movie. Hands down.
8
SuperDizz Mar 27, 2026 +7
So it looks like Radio Silence has only created straight up horror movie, which, this version of the Mummy is not. I hope the humor, and more importantly, the adventure is not lost..
7
dsayre1986 Mar 27, 2026 +15
Most of their films have a fun vibe to them. There’s plenty of humor to go with the scares. I trust them. This seems like a much better fit for them than Scream (which they did a pretty good job with).
15
FlameFeather86 Mar 27, 2026 +9
They make fun, nostalgia-driven meta horrors, heavily influenced by 90s pop culture. This is right up their ally.
9
AgonizingSquid Mar 27, 2026 +9
so what is Brendan gonna look like for this one
9
IcyTransportation961 Mar 27, 2026 +21
Old like the rest of them. It'll be on par with the latest Indians Jones probably but people will still go throw money at it because nostalgia
21
tyrantcv Mar 27, 2026 +17
I hope they bring back imhotep but there's not really a reason why a 4,000 year old mummy would look significantly older after 20 years lol
17
bristow84 Mar 27, 2026 +20
There's also really no reason why Imhotep would come back to life for a third time after he willingly gave up at the end of Returns IIRC.
20
tyrantcv Mar 27, 2026 +8
He definitely gave up heartbroken when anaksunamun (no idea how to spell it) left him to die, but I can see him being brought back against his will. Maybe he even helps the O'Connell's this time, only to betray them at the end. Could use makeup and keep him "decayed" to hide the fact the actor has aged
8
AgonizingSquid Mar 27, 2026 +5
I'm more curious if he'll try to get back in shape for this
5
Rigatoni_Soprano Mar 27, 2026 +7
4-5 months probably isn't enough time if he's still pretty overweight
7
FlameFeather86 Mar 27, 2026 +7
It's not a question of trying; it's well reported that he fucked his back up doing his own stunts for things like The Mummy and George of the Jungle. He physically *can't* just hit the gym and lose weight. He has lost noticeable weight in recent years but he'll never look like he did 25 years ago.
7
waiver Mar 28, 2026 +1
With options like Ozempic and exercise routines tailored for a hurt back, he might not end up looking like Thor, but he could become significantly healthier.

God that scene was classic never gets old
35
Fanabala3 Mar 27, 2026 +15

You just hear a rattle off-screen from all the holy symbols around his neck.

My hope is it involves a trip to the underworld, where they can bring back a few of our fallen buddies - Imhotep and Benny.
25
Beeman_75 Mar 27, 2026 +14
Same. Benny is still on the wrong side of the river though, even in the underworld.
14
Radguymccool Mar 27, 2026 +21
Somehow, Benny returned.

Benny was ride or die with the highest bidder. My kinda guy.

SoVerySick314159 Mar 27, 2026 +4
Beni needs to come back. He was a great character and the actor did a wonderful job with him. He died off-screen in a Mummy movie, they could handwave *something* and bring him back and only the handful of pedants that are going to reply to my post will object. BRING BACK BENI.

wang_li Mar 28, 2026 +3
benny became a famous illusionist and was able to kill the return of satan or something.

brewmatt Mar 27, 2026 +5
Somehow Benny returned...

hardyflashier Mar 27, 2026 +29
Great news. Now we just need Oded Fehr back, and the whole band's back together again.
29
Missterfortune Mar 27, 2026 +50
The OG trio is really what makes the movie. I remember watching the Intro to Mummy Returns and being upset that Jonathon wasn’t on the dig with them, then you get to the “those aren’t my knickers” scene and relief.
50
Few-Road6238 Mar 27, 2026 +11
Well Jonathan was still badass in Returns though
11
cpt_morgan___ Mar 27, 2026 +20
I like John Hannah

LyleTheAdonis Mar 27, 2026 +19
I just love that they’re wholly acting as if the 3rd movie never happened. That’s how it should be, and I wish more movie franchises did this with undesired and shitty sequels.
19
MaddyKet Mar 27, 2026 +5
If a movie really depends on certain characters and you can’t get ALL the actors back, they shouldn’t do the sequels.
5
Quintessence_95 Mar 27, 2026 +36
Everyone should seek out A Touch of Cloth for more of this lad
36
DasGanon Mar 27, 2026 +8
Or the original first series of Rebus.

9966 Mar 28, 2026 +5
Touching, Cloth.

TheGriesy Mar 27, 2026 +15
Have they got Oded Fehr back yet? That should be the whole gang back together. Suppose any young actor can play the son. Looks like the child actor from Mummy Returns did not keep acting too long after.
15
MrWeirdoFace Mar 27, 2026 +13
The son can be busy working at a research station in Antarctica.
13
QueefBeefCletus Mar 27, 2026 +14
And did I panic? I think not!
14
patelj27b Mar 27, 2026 +19
NOW we have a Mummy movie! It wasn’t going to be a movie without John Hannah!
19
TheColtOfPersonality Mar 27, 2026 +11
I say, jolly good show!
11
flysly Mar 27, 2026 +8
Met him at a convention last weekend and asked him for any Mummy 4 tidbits. He said it’s mostly a sequel to the first two films and “Arnold is coming back” which I assume is Arnold Vosloo, the actor who played Imhotep. John was a nice guy and fun to meet.

chimneybebe Mar 27, 2026 +7
He’s great! Loved him in “Sliding Doors!”

Please let the focus of this movie be on the OG cast of Rick, Evie and Johnathon.

tommytraddles Mar 27, 2026 +16
In 1942, during WWII, Rick and Evelyn O'Connell are a desert guide and codebreaker, respectively, working for the Allies in Egypt, fighting against the invading Afrika Korps. Jonathan Carnahan makes a living arranging "logistics" for the Allies (including sneaking booze and women into the Allies' camps). Meanwhile, Alex O'Connell, now 18 years old, leads a small group of American and British soldiers in a daring nighttime infiltration of a Nazi camp, and they successfully capture General Rommel. Rommel explains that his capture is meaningless; in three days, Heinrich Himmler himself is coming to Egypt, as the SS have discovered the lost rock-crystal tomb of Alexander the Great near Siwa Oasis. The SS plan is to reanimate him. With Alexander leading the Nazi armies, there will be no hope for the Allies. Evelyn finally decodes the intercepted messages by which this discovery was communicated to Berlin. She tells Rick, who says they must notify Ardeth Bay. After "borrowing" an RAF Spitfire with Jonathan's help, Rick and Evelyn fly to meet Bay in the desert. Bay explains that the Medjai are well aware of the Nazi plan, and the rediscovery of Pharaoh Alexander's last resting place. But he also tells Rick and Evelyn that the Cult of Anubis laid a terrible curse upon the tomb of the man they considered a 'foreign conqueror', and this the Nazis don't even begin to understand. Both armies, and the entire world, may soon be at the mercy of what is being awakened in the desert... *The Mummy: Ozymandias*. Only in theatres, Summer 2027.

SonovaVondruke Mar 27, 2026 +12
Honestly, not a bad pitch.
12
youarelookingatthis Mar 27, 2026 +4
The one thing about this pitch is that it keeps the mummy portion till the end, unless it's that the curse of the Cult of Anubis is causing mummies to rise throughout the movie.

Funny dude yay

What I’d give for Omid Djalili to return to but think it could be a task with his fate in the first film

Afaithfulwhovian Mar 27, 2026 +3
Heck yeah! All we need now is Oded Fehr and the gangs all here!
