And it still got low views. 30 Rock, Community, Parks and Rec, Office, My Name is Earl were all jerked around their entire runs. There was as much goodness as there was in peak must see tv but nothing broke out during original airing. Around the last season of Parks they just gave up even trying.

There's 6-7 episodes per disc, so it's not exactly you having to get up every half hour to put a new disc in.
Obviously the visual advantage of image quality over streaming, but it's going to be minor to barely marginal on a show like this in HD, it's not like upgrading to **Game of Thrones** on 4K disc and seeing a dramatic upswing in quality over the streaming version. The main appeal here seems to be integrating the extended footage into the episodes themselves, which in some cases makes for much better episodes. Interesting to see if these versions of the episodes go onto streaming or they become a media-only thing, if only for a few years.
ETA: Ah the superfan episodes are already on Peacock, so interesting choice to release this.

6
AnalogWalrusApr 12, 2026

Sorta. Discs cost like 25 cents to make. The idea that the number of discs drastically inflates the cost of something is arbitrary.
11
andyk192Apr 13, 2026
+2
From the point of view of just the cost of discs sure, but we all know the studios would use that as an excuse to charge more. Cost of materials is not the only factor that affects price.
2
AnalogWalrusApr 13, 2026
+4
It’s all arbitrary. They could charge the same no matter the number of discs, the other costs are related to rights and royalties, which would be the same whether the episodes fit on 2 or 20 discs.

I thought all seasons except the final season's Superfan episodes were great.
The final season felt rushed and just put together the night before, some times. A lot of the added scenes were just not funny nor added context to the show.

Okay cool it wasn't just me-I just finished it last week and thought the final season was just insanely disappointing. I'm genuinely shocked they didn't film more Michael stuff for the finale.
32
Rhain1999Apr 12, 2026

You are definitely not alone. The almost universal consensus is that the last two seasons are much worse than everything else
IIRC Steve Carell didn't want many lines in the finale because he didn't want to overshadow everyone else—it wasn't really his show anymore. They also wanted to keep it a surprise; his role was so secretive, it was pretty much omitted from the script
23

Iirc, Steve said he pushed for Michael to have a really small role in the finale to keep the focus on the rest of the cast/characters.

Time to retire my Peacock freeloading era. Really hope they include both broadcast and superfan cuts on each disc, a seamless branching option would be nerdy but amazing.
8
QB8YoungApr 12, 2026
+5
It's not both. The discs don't have room for both and including both would likely double the price.
5
Common-Trifle4933Apr 12, 2026
+4
If the super fan cuts just add extra scenes instead of using alternate takes you don’t need to include more video files to support both. Blu-Rays and DVDs already store scenes separately and both support playlists so you can have the Superfan cut button for an episode play scenes 1,2,3,4,5 and the broadcast button play scenes 1,3,5. It’s how they have things like the Play All button. Some DVDs use this in unique ways like Memento letting you play it in chronological order.
The question is whether they’d bother since it seems unlikely many people would buy this then choose to play the shorter episodes. I’m sure some would but not enough for it to be a selling point improving sales.
4
QB8YoungApr 12, 2026

No that's not correct it isn't just some added scenes. Some are completely replaced with longer or alternate scenes. There wouldn't be a way to make them playable by cutting them into pieces.

I've never seen the superfan episodes, I couldn't get behind watching them on Peacock and dealing with their ads lol
Somebody brought it up though so I checked, the Dwight Christmas episode removes the Zwarte Piet scene on Peacock. So I assume it'll be gone on this set as well... which is fine, the joke about Dwight being dumb enough to do it still works the same without actually showing Nate in blackface.
I just hope it's not in a shitty jumbo DVD case with multiple discs stacked on top of each other getting scratched... but that's probably what it'll be lol

Some people are going to tell you yes, but I personally would disagree. There is good stuff in the extended episodes for sure, but there are also ton of scenes I feel are made worse by extending them and ruin the pacing of the jokes, and some that even contradict established characterization.
People would probably also argue that the time constants on NBC limited the true vision of the storylines, but I would push back and say it just forced them to get the best versions of the episodes out of the footage they had. (There are some exceptions though, and I think the Superfan episodes are worth watching, just not for your first time.)
