Contrary to popular belief, giving your assets to family members and then declaring that you're bankrupt doesn't actually stop court orders. It will take a while, a very long while given how he's tried every trick in the book, but eventually the rope will run out. It's just a very slow process in the courts.

It’s kind of a complicated situation. Disclaimer, all these people are nuts. But Jones, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owen’s have been moving to the hardest fringes of the right, past MAGA even. They all have their own reasons but Owen’s is losing her mind because she thinks Charlie Kirk was a fated time traveler being monitored by the government, and Carlson is going full religious zealot and pointing out how our current government isn’t as religious as they present themselves. Long story short, many institutional far right wing influencers are the leopards eating the leopard eating face party.
43
ThePrussianGrippe 1 day ago +59

purplehendrix22 1 day ago +22
They’ve all realized that Trump himself is undefendable in so many aspects, it makes you look like an idiot if you always agree with him because so many things he does are clearly stupid, so they had to find other angles that still appeal to the MAGA base.
22
YKRed 1 day ago +11
True that Tucker is a religious zealot, but his split with Trump is on the war in Iran and Trump's allegiance to Israel over the United States.

Alex Jones has always been to the right of the mainstream Republican party. He's actually been a pretty good barometer for where the party is headed over the last couple of decades. The tip of the spear, if you will.
3
HardcoreKaraoke 1 day ago +9
Yep. It's to get people to say things like the other comment. Rogen and other MAGA grifters do it too. "He has actually been criticizing Trump lately." Which might be true about one comment in a cherry picked clip. But if you listen to their entire show it'll be mostly praising Trump. They just want to seem unbiased and it works on some people.

I remember way back when he would have some unexplained stuff on his site and people would send me links. I think around 2012 he had Dave Mustaine from Megadeth on his show and someone sent me the link since I am a Megadeth fan and that's when I realized he was a f****** loon. They were talking about the FEMA death camps that Obama was building in Los Angeles. The proof? You could see the construction when taking off from LAX. Too bad he was talking about the old Surfridge neighborhood at the end of the runways.

21
NightWriter500 1 day ago +22

3
Offsets 1 day ago +24
Because what he meant in the 90s was that global elites = Democrats = child traffickers. There's a relatively recent video of him criticizing the DOJ for not going after the Democrats in the Epstein files. He says he's known that these Democrats have been child predators for decades, and the DOJ is failing by refusing to prosecute these evil Dems. A few breaths later, he says that there was a 2-year period where anyone could call the FBI and report anything relating to the Epstein files and the FBI had to record it--he says that alone is why Trump's name is in the files a million times.

Kronman590 1 day ago +3
Can someone explain how this deal actually worked? Did Jones basically relinquish infowars to the families, and then the families sold the brand to the onion?
3
HeloRising 1 day ago +12
To make a long, long, *long* story short: The Infowars brand (which also means the studio equipment, merch, media, etc) is owned by FSS (Free Speech Systems) which Jones owns. FSS was put up for auction to help pay off some of the damages. The hope on Jones' part was that an ally (and they had some ready to go) would buy it and just let Jones keep running everything. The Onion outbid everybody else and bought it, Jones et al threw a temper tantrum, that has now been sorted out with the courts telling Jones' friends to choke on it. The Onion now legally owns FSS and thereby InfoWars. EDIT: Yes, I realize my summary was incomplete. I am familiar with the specifics, I deliberately chose a TL;DR that wasn't book length but would get people the basic understanding of the dynamics at work here.
12
Hugh_Jass_Clouds 1 day ago +8
Per the article: > Under the agreement, and with the support of the Sandy Hook families, The Onion will initially pay a monthly licensing fee to the court-appointed receiver overseeing InfoWars. Collins said the company has also signed a deal to purchase the full assets once the current judicial stay expires. The onion does not own it yet, but they do have the licensing agreement to take over the infowars brand. The Onion is not out of the woods on this yet, but they do seem to have a strong case to ultimately end up with the brand.
8
Rannasha 1 day ago +7
> The Onion outbid everybody else and bought it, Jones et al threw a temper tantrum, that has now been sorted out with the courts telling Jones' friends to choke on it. The Onion did not outbid Jones' friends. However, the families of the victims preferred the bid from The Onion and argued that accepting this bid would go further in making them whole than the other bid with its greater monetary value. Initially, this seemed to be sufficient for The Onion to win, but then a judge pulled the breaks on it. Now it seems that The Onion has worked out a licensing deal with the bankruptcy court that will still give them control over the IP. The families of the victims are on the side of The Onion, because they're not necessarily after as much money as they can get and would rather see Infowars to stop existing as a hate channel.

based on the convo from Pablo Torre's show, this huge influx of attention and press is *massive* for their odds of full acquisition. the merch sales going to the families is a big part of it. the judge's originally ruling said that they left a lot of money on the table for the families. now that they have Tim on board, the merch has gone viral, *and* they have had great sales from their newspaper, they have the capital to actually make this stick. fingers crossed, at least.

> Headline from later this week: The Onion's takeover of Infowars, halted by Federal Judge. This was done as part of that process. That's why it's taken this long. And also, they haven't taken over anything. They're just allowed to do it while the lawsuit proceeds. They're paying tens of thousands of dollars a month to license the infowars name from infowars. I'm guessing once the lawsuit is finally killed that money will just come out of the total money that the onion pays.

The Judge was so full of shit for not taking into account the Sandy Hook families' proposed forgoing of part of the settlement if The Onion was given the bid. A creditor taking a haircut like they were will to is as good as cash in a bankruptcy case. The value more than made The Onion's offer superior to anyone else's.

I mean, I agree with the whole "I hate this timeline" vibe these days, but this kind of gem could not have happened any other way!

If you ever question your self-worth because of your job ("I'm only \[blank\]," "I never became \[blank\]," etc.), please remember that you didn't make a career out of terrorizing the victims of mass shootings, so you're doing pretty well.

The Onion surviving an Onionized world is nothing short of heroic.

Wait, the onion actually got infowars? I thought a judge put a stop to it, this is great news!

"He has yet to pay a single cent of the more than $1 billion in damages he owes the families. As a result, Jones’ assets went up for sale... Jones said on his show Monday that he will keep “the exact same show” on a new site and will “continue to fight” what he has called “incredible corruption” in the legal case against him."

Just checked in on that site, wall to wall racist and homophobic “content”. Deserves to be burnt to the ground but the onion buying it to mock it is almost better

Historically, the Onion's video material has been among the funniest shit I've ever seen in my life, I can't wait to see what they do with this. F*** Alex Jones

Instead of a comedy network it should exclusively do hard-hitting investigative journalism.
