Great dramatic finish to the season.
But the reveal that Digby was the one who stole Whitakers ID badge got a big laugh out of me. I figured the fate of that badge would be something more dramatic rather than funny.

Whitaker had his badge when he went outside to talk to Ogilvie and it was gone by the time they're sitting in the ambulance. He probably just dropped it.

I have to wonder given Isa Briones musical chops (Broadway, Blue Skies in one of the Picard seasons): is it hard for a good singer to sound bad? Because you know she could have sung that a LOT better and honestly the fact she didn't made it even funnier.

Hannah Waddingham in Ted Lasso talked about how difficult it was to intentionally sing "bad" because even though she could sing, her character isn't a trained musician so she'd never sound the way she sounds IRL. Pretty fascinating.

c-donzApr 17, 2026

Canonically you could even say Dr Santos is a good singer after their scene calming Baby Jane Doe earlier this season. So Briones is playing the karaoke scene as exhausted and drunk, hence bad singing.

That would be an interesting idea, for the next season to start off like halfway through a nightcrawler shift, and have the day team filter in over time. And it could leave it ambiguous whether or not certain people will even show up.
I know they were talking about the next season possibly being in a different.... well, season, like winter. Maybe things start out relatively quiet, but as the sun comes up a few hours in and people start getting in car accidents sliding on black ice, that's when things pick up.

That's one of my favourite recurring parts of this show. I have a lot of people like that in my family who believe in self care and "nature good, chemicals bad" type of shit. So it's always cathartic when someone like that appears on the show and the writers fully expose how stupid they are by not even doing that much, just letting them be themselves and let reality run it's course.

Whitaker is actually the least fucked up person in that whole department. Huckleberry mock him all you want but he's the only one that got a pretty good life being with someone (even if the relationship definitively started a little weird...), seems generally happy at work (of course hard times losing someone but in a normal way) and even graduated as full blown doctor (which I'm not sure how he was so fast, felt like he was a first or second year in S1 but I don't really know how those things work)
86

Whitaker was a 4th year (final year) medical student in S1. He was a 1st year resident (or “intern” as they’re called) in S2. A resident is a doctor. The med students are not.

I don't even trust my own family enough to drive my car. There's definitely some underlying feelings in that relationship he's not being honest about.

Al Hashimi's story hit really personally. While I was in grad school, I was diagnosed with a brain cyst after I suddenly couldn't read the words on my paper at a conference. My department chair told me to quit. My advisor asked me if it's really a disability if it's invisible. I had to slow my work down for a year or two to regain some semblance of legible writing, and there are still days I can't use my right hand at all and still nights when I've worked so f****** hard during the day that both of them are numb and vibrating. And Al Hashimi's car emotional breakdown is one I've done regularly on the bad days, because no matter how much progress I make or how well I do, it's always going to influence how people see me.

As someone with the exact same type of seizures growing up (not by the same mechanism but the same absence seizures) I can completely understand her wanting so bad to do what she knows she is skilled at and so rarely has these occur and still has to deal with the fear of when her brain will betray her, and today it did at the worst time in front of someone who already had it out for her. I know that feeling well.

The getting shot at comment is true, but I also feel like it's a selfless way to channel those feelings into altruism and do an important job someone needs to do.
I think saving the woman and baby at the end gave Robbie second thoughts on top of everything else. He's not healed but it bought time for him to seek help and is making him think twice.

I had chills all over my body and froze up just watching it on a screen from my bed under a blanket. Can't imagine actually being there and remaining so calm and collected.
I also feel so bad for Dr. Al-Hashimi. Seeing her break down like that...that fucked me up. She's such a great doctor, both with her patients and her colleagues. With her wonderful balance between great empathy and great medical expertise she has proven she would've been a great and necessary addition to the ER department. Sucks that she has to leave for something she has no control over. But it also leaves her with no choice but to give up her profession she clearly cares so much about.

Thank God its not that much drama yet. This season had more personal drama than last, but was still great.
I cant do those overly dramatic medical dramas

Al-Hashimi crying in the car was heartbreaking. She's an excellent doctor and clearly loves what she does, but I think she knows Robby is right. It's not fair that she can't have the job she wants, but that's life. Sometimes it just doesn't work out the way you want it to.

Apparently her crying was in response to a cut scene where she called her ex-husband and asked if he could keep the kids for a few extra days and he offered her support, which is what actually broke the camel's back. Not sure why they thought cutting it was the move, but they've cut a ridiculous amount of scenes this season (there was meant to be a scene of Javadi and her parents this episode that HBO even released an official still of a few days back, and a ridiculous amount of Mohan scenes have been cut to try and make the actress' departure make sense for the character)

So many episodes were like 40-some minutes on a show that is supposed to be a real time hour.
17
jadinggApr 17, 2026
+12
And from what I've heard, they film about 70 minutes of scenes per episode, so it shouldn't have been so hard to make episodes closer to an hour, especially when half the cast has been mentioning scenes important to their character in interviews that just never got shown to us.

Yeah but who knows, they might have fucked with the flow of the episode which is why they were cut. Probably the editor in me but just saying.

I think it would be very interesting if they start season 3 at like 2am so we see a bit of night shift before rolling into day shift.

I was thinking the same thing. Or at least 4am near the end of their shift. You could even have dayshift called in early or already spending the night due to a snowstorm.

I wanted a proper closure for Dr.Mohan in regards to her dynamics with Robby, and her future, but it felt like they left the ends untied. If her character needs to move on - as residents do rotations - that's fair; I just wanted more material for Supriya Ganesh to really get to sink her teeth into.
She still did well with what she was given and I love her character. I suppose I'll hold out some unrealistic hope that she returns in future seasons (although arriving to a completely new crew since the rest of the current lot would also have moved on).
Al-Hashimi's backstory is quite riveting and I hope they bump her up to being a crucial "supporting actress" character, alongside Dana.
Also, I'm gonna say it: Al-Hashimi is *hot* hot.

Last season, one of the major themes throughout all the episodes centered around family dynamics – mostly parents and children, and all the ways families are these days. We have our main cast, as a found work family.
This season, focus is mostly on the relationships we have with the people we love, and all the different ways and shapes that love can be shared. There are many forms of love. Again, we have our main cast as they struggle with their personal loves, in whatever shape they take and they keep on living like everyone else.
Great season, and that final conversation for Abbott and Robbi was phenomenal.
Digby ending up with a mannequin and Whitaker's ID badge was hilarious.

If I were to be very nitpicky, I would say this season isn't quite as good as S1 IMO.
Robby is a compelling character and it makes sense to zone in on him this season as he is on the verge of suicide, but I do think we lost a little by having some of the side character's fall by the wayside, story wise.

Love the constant theme of realism in work life balance. No one is coming to save you, you must save yourself, even in your lowest moments its just another day. Very pleased the ending didn’t end off with any grand gesture as we get none in life.

I have no idea how you came away with this take. I think almost every episode has someone saying "you need to get help", nevermind the backset of these people saving lives. No man is an island, Robby literally says this, every death takes away from him, and he does have to seek help to save himself.

Yeah seriously, that would be a terrible idea for both of them.
Robby's only reason to keep living has been the hospital. He'd just be shifting that unhealthy dependence to the baby instead.
And the baby needs someone who isn't hoping to die every time he walks out the door.

Yeah I'm going crazy reading these comments, Robbie adopting that baby is the grey's anatomy interpretation of that scene. Nooo f****** way that is how he regains his way to live. Its too easy an answer

I mean they have Dana ask multiple doctors and nurses if they would take the baby home on an emergency basis, and then you see Robbie connect with her. I don’t think it’s a crazy interpretation based on the way they lamp shaded someone at the hospital adopting the baby.

It's not crazy but the show is too grounded for it, Dana would flip her shit if he tried and there's no chance of anyone administrative signing off on it

I mean they specifically added the scene of Dana asking Doctors to adopt her. It's very logical to think that's a possibility even if it's not the best idea. That's exactly what I think will happen. I think Abbots speech got him there though to keep going.

My wife had a placental abruption, meaning our most recent child was delivered via emergency caesarian. It most definitely wasn't going to be a "wild birth" by any stretch of the imagination, but the thought of both mother and child dying (which could have been the case) is something I actively try to "filter out" of my mind.
The baby/birth storyline in this episode was... affecting, to say the least.

I think the reason Robby didn't want to talk to Landon is because Landon has everything Robby wants. Marriage with a wife who's stuck with him, kids, career, and the balls to get better no matter what. Meanwhile Robby is too scared to seek therapy.

I feel more meh about this season overall than the first one, which is a solid 10/10 piece of historically excellent television, in my mind. I'm going to complain a little about some things I liked less, because this is Listnook and that's what Listnook is for. I love this show and I am 100% onboard for another season; I really want to know what happens and I hate that there's not another episode next week. But that opinion is common and not new and doesn't need explaining here.
There are a lot of relatively minor things that I think add up to make it less satisfying than the first season, and make me feel like the show is moving in a direction I don't like as much:
* Al-Hashimi trusting Robby with information about her seizure disorder feels like an odd move for her character, who seems guarded and suspicious of most folks, and also fiercely proud. They don't have enough of a relationship. I also don't like how it makes her just another person for Robby to lecture. They're supposed to be equals and the show was more fun when it treated them that way. (Overall, though, I love her as an addition to the cast.)
* Just way too much Robby and Robby being important to everything in this season, compared to last season. I realize that thematically, that's part of what they're going for, but I didn't really enjoy it, because I feel like other character arcs suffered as a result. I love Robby, I love Noah Wyle, but this should be an ensemble show, not the Robby show, and I want that to stay.
* Characters I wanted to see more of this season: Mel, all the new cast, McKay, and especially Mohan. I really don't understand why Mohan was cut, and I don't understand why they gave her so little to do, when she's a fascinating character. Her dynamic with Robby also got NO closure, which is fine if we know she's coming back, but feels like a completely dropped plot thread if she's not, and we know she's not. (Something similar happened with Dr. Collins last year, but that was more due to external issues with the actress. I don't see evidence of that happening here.)
* The best thing about the Pitt is its ability to create believably complex characters who talk like real humans. That is weakened when we have these Robby-centric monologue scenes, no matter how well-acted and well-written they are. It just doesn't happen like that. (One piece of non-closure I do like, though, is that Robby is not "cured" at the end, though; instead, it's clear he's still Really Going Through It. That's both realistic and good for the character.)
* Some parts are starting to feel formulaic; the speeches about What Medicine and Life Are Like especially. It needs to start varying things a bit more in order to keep things from feeling rote by the end of next season.
* It's both good and bad that they did not do a Big Event like they did for Pittfest last year. It reduces the excitement/momentum of the show a bit, but it also feels more honest and realistic, and lets you spend more time with the characters.
* Yes, I would watch an all-night-shift season or spinoff with a more "badass comedy" than "harrowing drama" tone (as long as it kept the realness of the medicine and pace, and didn't feel like it was mocking the main show).
Overall, this is like an 8 or 9 out of 10 for me - which is more than enough for me to keep watching - but some of this stuff felt like mentioning.

Mohan getting annoyed at Robby's speeches outside was one of the most realistic, and satisfying, things to me in this episode.

I really noticed the problem of it being a single day more this season. Which lawyers are doing a deposition on a Saturday afternoon on the 4th July? And are then hanging around until 7pm?
Even AlHashimi confiding in Robbie felt forced as they've only known each other for 12 hours.
It doesn't break the show for me, but it was a lot easier to overlook in the first season where the Pittfest episodes made the back half of the season fly by.
