My favorite Bubbles-centered episode is "Bubblevicious" where she tries to make herself "H*******". That episode was the first time I learned the term "h*******" as a child. Similarly, the Dexter's Laboratory episode "Dexter Dodgeball" where [Dexter's substitute gym says "What's this c***?"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pyOVTGZb8k) over Dexter's excuse note was also my earliest exposure to mild profanity in a children's show alongside [a few episodes of Hey Arnold](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfDxxs5bNnU) and Ren and Stimpy.

That was "Bubblevicious" actually, and yeah it's my favorite Bubbles episode, too. https://imgur.com/a/X2W8THv

I still own a picture book adaptation of that episode somewhere in my bedroom.

Loved that ep so much. Her raspy threatening voice saying, "Haaaaardcoooooore!", answering the phone when the mayor calls, he starts sputtering and she yells, "SPIT IT OUT!" Funny as hell. Bubbles always got the most laughs from me.

Seeing her crying made me wanted to get her the biggest hug as a kid. Especially in The Powerpuff Girls Movie where we get a slow panning shot of The Girls staying on the Moon after The Professor disowns them. When the camera gets closer to the moon, you can faintly hear Bubbles crying. :(

Before I knew about voice acting as a kid, I remember finding [Buttercups' tantrum over losing her blanket](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Woj5DyMhc5c) sounded so much like Tommy Pickles crying noises except older sounding.

It is genuinely moving to see them all together again like this. Hearing about Tom Kane's situation always breaks my heart because his voice work was such a massive part of my childhood. Seeing the core trio still showing up for each other and him really feels like the end of an era.

I love how Craig McCracken's "Kid Cosmic" Netflix series managed to bring in the original voice actress of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup to voice female agent characters who share the same color scheme and names but with different purposes.

I’m glad tom felt good enough to come to a comic con (his first in 7 years I think?) it was sad hearing about his stroke, very iconic VA in the industry. Hope he’s doing well.

I remember when Kane's daughter posted an update on her father's Facebook breaking the news of his retirement from voice acting to animation fans a few years ago.

During my Elementary school days, I would unapologetically rock out to the show's [end credits as a little boy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6epMQlNWtI). However, being a male PPG fan as a kid was a pain in the ass during the show's heyday in the early 2000s. Even telling your male friends and classmates the names of the main girls would get you laughed at or picked on by older kids (especially during Recess)! Hell, I was glad that Cartoon Network used to air PPG during the evening hours when my dad was away at work. He would had thought I was secretly becoming gay over my love for the show. And he grew up in a family during an era when men were taught to "Man up" and "to not like anything feminine-related". I just loved The Powerpuff Girls for its darker moments, good action, and emotional storytelling ("Speed Demon", "Superfriends", and "Cootie Gras" anyone?). Plus it was shocking (in a good way) at how much violence they were able to show on-screen that you don't see in any other animated children's show since. The show's intro even showed HIM bleeding after Buttercup punched HIM that hard! I'll never forget reading Craig McCraken's tweet a few years ago where he recalled Cartoon Network holding a survey about male Powerpuff Girls fans. Here's McCracken quote for those that don't us Twitter/X: "During the height of PPG, CN held a focus group with boys. When they asked the room who watched PPG only one boy raised his hand. They then asked them to close their eyes and put their heads down on the table and asked them again. Who watches PPG? They ALL raised their hands!" On a humorous note, I remember my mom buying me a [Bootleg Buttercup alarm clock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNYUndwZJDE) that she brought from a flea market which played bits of "Under the Sea" from Disney's The Little Mermaid. However, Buttercap saying "Wake Up! Wake Up!" and "Good morning" was clearly not EG Daily and doesn't use any of the show's music. I told her that I wanted a Bubbles Alarm Clock since she was my favorite character, but due to not being familiar with the show. She brought me Buttercup mistaking her as Bubbles for some strange reason. In hindsight, we didn't understand the concept of bootleg products until I grew much older. I wonder how Craig McCracken feels about those PPG alarm clocks? Because I doubt any of the original voice actors recorded those lines for those clocks.

I was in the same boat and, in retrospect, I feel like that was just kids being kids. Looking back, the show really was not that "girly" the main characters just happened to be girls. The show was actually relatively violent (they'd regularly beat Mojo Jojo's brains out) which appeals to a lot of little boys.

Thats why I loved that show. I miss that era of CN.

People say the 2010s was Cartoon Network's golden age. However, I strongly believe the network during the Powerhouse era was the network at its peak.

Craig McCracken stated that he wanted The Powerpuff Girls to be aimed at both genders. However, the official merchandise released during the show's popularity was clearly catered towards girls. You had to be very lucky to find any PPG merch that feature boy-centric characters from the Powerpuff Girls Rogues gallery' (especially anything focused on Mojo Jojo).

GlamMetalLion Apr 1, 2026 +2
What's funny is early Spongebob merchandise (around 2001-02) was very girl coded too. Rave Girls had a Spongebob section and it was glittery stuff and a diary. As a guy, I bought the diary

Same, I’m a guy and I loved PPG as a kid. I never spoke about it though, I knew that would be one more thing I’d get bullied over.

pistilpeet Mar 31, 2026 +8
It’s crazy, looking back, there was a time guys would straight up hit you for liking something that was “for girls.”

Say what you will about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and the Brony community. But the show's debut in 2010 marked a huge turning point in Internet and fan culture. The 2010s period was when boys and young men started becoming comfortable in liking shows geared towards the opposite gender. Heck, American culture has started to embrace "Cute culture" that's been socially acceptable in Japan, Asia, and some parts of Europe.

It took until the early days of Youtube and Deviantart (before it went to shit) that I felt comfortable in talking about my love for the PPG series.

kidkolumbo Mar 31, 2026 +7
Damn that's rough, even in my homophobic school PPG was appreciated by everyone cause they kicked ass and it was funny.
7
brb1006 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Thankfully my dad wasn't homophobic but carried some toxic masculine beliefs he learned from his father that was common during the 70s and 80s (he was born in 1956). He started to slowly change his mindset when it comes to men's behavior sometime between 2008 and 2009. On a few occasions, my mother would tell me that she would sometimes scold him for "Being stuck in the 70s" when it comes to interacting with women in the modern era.

I was an open fan of PPG and nobody gave me shit. But I could also stand my ground. PPG, Dexter s lab, 2 stupid dogs, cow and chicken and later samurai jack for more mature audiances... man those were the days...

The female-led action shows were always the bomb, PPG along with sailor moon and Kim possible

Since Craig Mccracken is currently working on a new animated Powerpuff Girls series that's suppose to be a continuation of the original series. It's going to take some getting use to the replacement voice actors for Professor Utonium and HIM. The episode "Knock It Off" is my favorite Tom Kane performance. [The way he performed as The Professor crying over the girls being dead broke my heart as a kid.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_hweBMuy4k)

The Powerpuff Girls! Compared to other Cartoon Networks shows, The Powerpuff Girls had such a memorable score and soundtrack. The Girl band craze of the 90s' and early 2000s' really gave the show a unique identity and its own personality. Compare this to the 2016 reboot, which is just generic (and boring) 2010s era animated show music.

Haha dude so real. I still go back and listen to Signal in The Sky by The Apples in The Stereo. “POWER SUPER, SUPER POWER! LETS GO!” Another show that had a banger intro song was by Mike, Lu & OG. Cartoon Network. Also, one of my favorites that I still sing to this day- Megas XLR intro was goated haha. “LIVING IN JERSEY FIGHTING ALIENS AFAAAAAR GOTTA FIND 1ST GEAR IN MY GIANT ROBOT CAAAR!” Bangers!

I can still remember the [Pokey Oaks Kindergarten Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Wvis7RtMEo) to this day! Leave it to The Powerpuff Girls for managing to make Kindergarten look fun and cool!

I remember Kane's daughter saying he had been recovering his speech through sheer stubbornness, I wonder how well he's recovered it? Obviously not to the level he could resume work but just being able to fully converse would do wonders for his quality of life.

When I was younger, I'd always get teary eyed when I was on the monorail at Disney World as Tom Kane wished everyone a safe trip home. Worked there for a few years as an adult, but now I was getting teary eyed because how we lost such a legendary voice actor's career way too soon.

Hasn't that show been done for like 20 years? I'm surprised any of the voice actors are still alive and walking around.

A majority of the original voice cast are still alive as of 2026. Except Christine Cavanugh who voiced Bunny who actually dies in her own dedicated episode.
