This hurts so much to hear. My sick and summer days were all about Holly, Janice and Dian.

Please spay or neuter your ancient game show hosts.

Ugh I just started a marketing campaign in my region inspired by his success with his spay and neuter your pet mantra.

Even evil men can do good things. As bad as he was to women, he was that good for animals. Unless you plastered his name/likeness all over your media, don't fret it.

I didn’t, but it is disappointing!

I prefer Drew Carey as host. He always looks like he’s having an absolute blast & he’s a gem of a human being to boot.

The CBS studio where The Price is Right is filmed is located next door to LA's Farmer's Market and The Grove outdoor shopping center. When I lived in LA, the Farmer's Market was one of my favorite places to eat, and I would watch movies at The Grove's theater pretty regularly. There's an Italian restaurant at The Grove. I went there to eat once and got into a conversation with one of the staff. They said that whenever Drew Carey and his show's crew ate there, he would tip the wait staff quite generously.

metallaholic Mar 19, 2026 +97
Drew has said in interviews his favorite thing in the world is going out to eat and leaving ridiculously huge tips
97
TGrady902 Mar 19, 2026 +46
Does Drew want to come have dinner at my house by chance?

Only if he can guess the prices in your pantry.

They moved in 2023 to Glendale. Went to be in the audience not too long ago. It was a fun and wacky time. Drew liked my shirt and mentioned it during his crowd work lol.

BIGGREDDMACH1NE Mar 19, 2026 +15
"You're from Glendale? The f*** you do around here?" Favorite inbetween commercial quote
15
mikeylee31 Mar 19, 2026 +10
I'm not going to say Drew loves to shit on Glendale, but he definitely farts in its general direction quite a bit.

TraditionalTackle1 Mar 19, 2026 +10
He told a story on a podcast about how he walked into a restaurant one time and a group of guys were sitting at a table. One guy said "oh look here comes that guy that makes me change the channel every time he comes on my TV." Drew thought that was the funniest roast he ever heard about him.
10

NCSUGrad2012 Mar 19, 2026 +48
This isn’t new. I remember in the 90s my mom not liking him for the way he treated the women on the show
48
drfeelsgoood Mar 19, 2026 +1
Sometimes the things he said or did wasn’t super out of place for that time period, but when we look back on it with elevated standards he definitely comes off as sexist and part of the patriarchy.

Bob Barker was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He’s like their most famous member. He was literally a frat boy. Source: I was a Sigma Nu member whose campus ultimately was ultimately kicked out because we thought it was going to be an “Old School” no rules, no hazing, just fun, experience, so Sigma Nu main kicked us out when they found out that we weren’t paying them enough and certainly not hazing.
1
Self-Comprehensive Mar 19, 2026 +1
Oh yeah Sigma Nu had the worst rep at my university. I think they were actually unofficial/suspended on my campus and had to have a house outside of town. And this was thirty years ago.

Why is all this coming back up after 30-something years? We’ve all known this already. If you watch the old episode of TPIR that air on Pluto, Bob Barker was a scoundrel. He was a creep with the contestants and the models and was vaguely racist in how he treated non-white contestants. Hell, one time during the closing credits when the models were showing a w***** all their showcase winnings, Bob came up behind one of them and untied her dress!
198
totaltvaddict2 Mar 19, 2026 +155
There’s a new documentary that’s coming out, so the stories are recirculating.

I just saw this commercial for a few old scandals like this being drudged up. Another one was how awful Tyra Banks was on Top Model. Yea we know it’s why you don’t hear shit from Tyra anymore. Just seems like lazy docs to fill space between sweeps.
37
QuestoPresto Mar 19, 2026 +25
When have documentaries ever been used to fill space between sweeps? Are sweeps still a thing even

8
Educational-Wing2042 Mar 19, 2026 +5
Tyra banks is actually on a PR kick right now trying to insert herself into the public consciousness again. It’s also a very different story when the actual wronged people want to tell their story and get it out there for the first time.
5
KKYBoneAEA Mar 19, 2026 +39
For the women it was “Reach here into my $100 pocket and get out that $100 bill!” For the men I believe it was “Here’s this $100 bill”
39
Final_Campaign_2593 Mar 19, 2026 +9
In all the female contestants kissed the host back in the day. I have noticed in Leah episodes. He has stopped doing that probably for this reason.

But they came forward back in the 90s. They sued. It’s been published in their biographies.
1

Considering he himself was Native American that makes it extra sick.
3
bwoah07_gp2 Mar 19, 2026 +6
He would always make comments about the Samoan contestants. Now, the contestants didn't seem to mind, however.
6
toomuchtv987 Mar 19, 2026 +9
And the black ladies he always acted scared of them like they would freak out and hurt him. He actually ran away from them a lot of times!

He wasn’t acting in Happy Gilmore
49
bwoah07_gp2 Mar 19, 2026 +24
I'm glad Holly won her lawsuit. Well, Barker and CBS settled. But they dragged it out and pushed Holly to the brink. She had nothing moneywise, but she won the court case in the end. After a decade.
24

He was a condescending ass on that show

-7
ADubPDX Mar 19, 2026 +13
What about Richard Dawson?
13
UnderABig_W Mar 19, 2026 +7
I think Richard Dawson was sort of the opposite of most of these hosts. The kissing was right up front and center, but behind the scenes, no one really had anything bad to say about him.
7
bwoah07_gp2 Mar 19, 2026 -5
Kissing was a greeting in those days.
-5
Topikk Mar 19, 2026 +22
F*** that. I watched old reruns of Dawson’s Feud when I was a kid and I clearly remember there were awkward moments of stilted body language from women who clearly didn’t want to kiss that creep on the mouth, and LITTLE GIRLS who initially refused until he forced them to.
22
Gadget18 Mar 19, 2026 +18
Any FEMALE contestant above the age of about 10-12 got a kiss on the mouth. Absolutely disgusting. I wonder how much mono, herpes, and lots of other diseases were passed around that way, too. So gross for so many reasons.
18
Melprincess Mar 19, 2026 +9
Weird how Trebek, Sajak, Bill Cullen etc never did it. Why do you keep defending this creepy behavior?

The real story is who isn't absolute garbage in Hollywood
16
Gorf_the_Magnificent Mar 19, 2026 +7
Bob Barker was mentored by Ralph Edwards, the emcee for This is Your Life, who was a bit creepy himself. When Laurel and Hardy were on, he made witless fat jokes about Oliver Hardy.
7
Razzler1973 Mar 19, 2026 +11
All this Barker stuff coming out is the result of a documentary? Cause I want to watch it 😀
11

Its been known for years. It's hardly new information.
3
Razzler1973 Mar 19, 2026 +1
There seems to a lot of 'comments' coming out this past week or two, wondered if they're pull quotes from a doc or maybe a book
1
bwoah07_gp2 Mar 19, 2026 +1
I think someone said there's a documentary of some kind coming out.
1
e_x_i_t Mar 19, 2026 +1
I watched a few episodes from the late 70s/80s and he would completely hound in on the attractive contestants. I mean he was usually always very chatty with anyone everyone, but once a beautiful young girl gets called to the stage the other contestants might as well not even be there. So yeah, this doesn't exactly come as a shock.
1
Glittering_Ocelot_67 Mar 19, 2026 +3
Are there like, highlight reels of his bad behavior? That shows been going for so long it’d be tough to binge 🤪

Barker's microphone was something else. It was like a drinking straw. I don't think I've seen another like it.
5
congteddymix Mar 19, 2026 +4
TBF if your watching episodes from the 70’s and early 80’s that style was pretty much the standard for any game show host. Just watch like an episode of Match Game or something and those host have pretty similar style microphones. What gets me is that he was still using that in 2007. Like the production people had to be pissed that he was still using that thing and having to be mindful of of the wire going across the floor when virtually everybody else in the entertainment industry has been using wireless since probably the early 90’s.
4
happyscrappy Mar 19, 2026 +1
I think it was a variant on the mics which were used at the lectern the contestants would be behind. Those were thin mics so as not to block the faces of the contestants. Price is Right would use them, I think Password too. An obvious alternative was lavaliers but when the contestants are running from the crowd to a lectern you didn't want to have to stop the action to clip a mic on I guess. I guess Bob (and Gene) had a version of that you could drag around. As you mention later I think Bob just liked using the wire as a part of his show, telling the contestants to go around it, or him flipping it a bit to get it out of the way.
1
happyscrappy Mar 19, 2026 +1
Gene Rayburn on Match Game most notable. It was pretty common. I think Alec Baldwin had one made for the new Match Game a few years back.
1
GoodtimeZappa Mar 19, 2026 +2
Thank you guys for giving me some knowledge about that weird, narrow mic. I mean this sincerely. I used to watch the show when I was home sick from school or during the summer. My brother and I always made fun of that microphone. He passed away a long time ago (both my brother and Bob Barker, not together in the same situation I hope). With all that said, I'd like to think of my brother meeting Bob Barker in the afterlife and saying in a jovial manner, "Hey, what's with your stupid f****** microphone? Is it a p**** joke? Stop it with this nonsense".
