Leave it to Russians to divide a land that doesn't belong to them and that they have no means to exert control over.
1377
Heroyem Apr 8, 2026 +288
Russians haven't even landed there
288
mrpoopsocks Apr 8, 2026 +38
Technically the US landed there first, put the flag there, so the US owns the moon /j outerspace treaty specifically covers taking advantage of natural resources on the moon and also exo earth warfare ( neither are allowed) but, ya, China blowing up satellites and Russia being Russia and attempting to extend their reach where they have no reason to. So, space wars. Shit is dumb.
38
Blenderhead36 Apr 8, 2026 +33
Unfortunately, the American flags planted on the moon during the '60s and '70s have been sun-bleached to pure white, making the moon a sovereign territory of France.
33
queen-adreena Apr 8, 2026 +17
You mean the nation who’s won more wars than anyone? That one?
17
Wintersage7 Apr 8, 2026 +5
Doesn't matter. I bet, if they really wanted to, they could get it done in a special 3 day operation.
5
Gold-Strength3255 Apr 8, 2026 +61
And Russians have a saying that roughly translates as “don’t start butchering (chopping up) a bear before you killed it”.
61
JD3982 Apr 8, 2026 +12
That cannot be real. That sounds too much like a parody.
12
King_Roberts_Bastard Apr 8, 2026 +6
Dont count your chickens before they hatch...
6
Alcogel Apr 8, 2026 +5
In danish it’s don’t sell the hide before the bear is shot.  Very common saying in many languages.
5
Zixinus Apr 8, 2026 +7
It's also a Hungarian saying, although it has it's own variant. "Don't drink for the bearhide ahead (of time)" or in Hungarian "Ne igyál a medve bőrére".
7
BWander Apr 8, 2026 +8
same in spanish! "no vendas la piel del oso antes de haberlo cazado"
8
Lexinoz Apr 8, 2026 +2
Similar saying around here, to the tune of "Don't sell the hide before you've shot the bear."
2
KeIIer Apr 8, 2026 +7
Because its not real. 'Don't divide a hide of alive bear' is more accurate translation of russian saying.
7
oneofstarks Apr 8, 2026 +3
Ohhh, the good old 'Nie dziel skóry na niedźwiedziu'. Poles have it too.
3
Timey16 Apr 8, 2026 +27
...and then throw a fit and scream "discrimination" when it's not given to them.
27
Palidane7 Apr 8, 2026 +12
Russophobia!
12
InformationHorder Apr 8, 2026 +12
Russia is the victimhood complex on a national scale.
12
Rush_Banana Apr 8, 2026 +19
Antarctica?
19
gravtix Apr 8, 2026 +9
Applying their Ukraine strategy to the Moon now Maybe it will be a special 3 day operation to claim those moon territories too.
9
WesternBlueRanger Apr 8, 2026 +5
Typical of the Russians. Their idea of their self worth as a great power is having more territory, so the Moon is yet another piece of territory up for grabs.
5
JaVelin-X- Apr 8, 2026 +2
they will once they are done buying feed for their war donkeys
2
50Centurion Apr 8, 2026 +147
How about we divide russia instead so we can give some lands back to the country that were assaulted
147
Sumthin-Sumthin44692 Apr 8, 2026 +31
We could turn Russia into a land that no one person or entity owns and everyone shares all land and resources. We’ll call this system: Share-ism
31
LemurianLemurLad Apr 8, 2026 +10
Sounds like this would have tremendous benefits to the *social* structures of their society. Maybe we call it "societism" instead?
10
Sumthin-Sumthin44692 Apr 8, 2026 +9
Good. Good. But it’s missing a sense of community, like a communion of the people and the land. Maybe communitism? Communionism?
9
LemurianLemurLad Apr 8, 2026 +5
I think Karl Marx had something to do with this idea originally. We should give that guy credit! Call it "Karlism." Final offer!
5
Sumthin-Sumthin44692 Apr 8, 2026 +3
On second thought, there’s no way that Russia would ever go for a system like this. I can see them getting absolutely Red in the face at the idea.
3
longlostkingdoms Apr 8, 2026 +5
And part of Russia can belong to the moon? 🌗
5
Ok_Eagle_3079 Apr 9, 2026 +2
And give moscow to the moon.
2
Unlucky_Paint_9194 Apr 8, 2026 +429
Mf barely are advancing in Ukraine and they want a piece of the Moon?! Talk about universal levels of delusion
429
Brusion Apr 8, 2026 +121
Actually, last month they LOST territory in Ukraine. Go home russia, you're drunk.
121
live-the-future Apr 8, 2026 +6
They have to be drunk to avoid facing the reality of their reality
6
Unlucky_Paint_9194 Apr 8, 2026 +8
Yeah ! I should ve wrote in a edit about this fact
8
PossibleNegative Apr 8, 2026 +29
Their space program will also not advance in the future no matter how many plans they make for new space stations.
29
WorgenDeath Apr 8, 2026 +19
I dunno man, these T-72 auto loaders seem like pretty good contenders for their new launch Vehicle.
19
DummyDumDragon Apr 8, 2026 +4
The last ship they managed to land on a rocky barren surface was the Moskva, they really shouldn't be getting ahead of themselves
4
iwantback Apr 8, 2026 +76
lol - they’ve never even stepped on it (I’m also pretty sure, the first ever successful Russian lunar mission will send people with some moon guns… after the eventual success of the lunar base)
76
Glittering-Quote-635 Apr 8, 2026 +14
The only way any Russian is going to the moon is on a Chinese rocket as a guest. Their space program is effectively done when ISS deorbits.
14
NiFiGaS Apr 8, 2026 +19
They will be sending people into moon gulag, one way.
19
7ddlysuns Apr 8, 2026 +6
Just like Holstomel airport or Odessa invasion!
6
PerAsperaAdAstra1701 Apr 8, 2026 +3
That would be a pretty expensive gulag ... Falling out of a window is economically more feasible.
3
dimwalker Apr 8, 2026 +6
You mean those types of guns which you can buy in any moon army surplus store?
6
Confident-Barber-347 Apr 8, 2026 +9
Little grey men. They’re just local moon volunteers!
9
dimwalker Apr 8, 2026 +9
Separatist from eastern crater republic or so I've heard.

Protato900 Apr 8, 2026 +55
Someone should teach the Russian Academy of Sciences to read - the UN Outer Space Treaty says "outer space is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty".
55
Hias2019 Apr 8, 2026 +33
Because the UN treaties mean anything in today’s world
33
Protato900 Apr 8, 2026 +19
Maybe not, but Russia is a signatory to the treaty. Serious countries in the UN should rake them over the coals in the general assembly for flagrantly violating the treaty they signed onto.
19
jeanpaulsarde Apr 8, 2026 +20
Russia is also a signatory to the Budapest Memorandum.
20
Jonnyflash80 Apr 8, 2026 +97
Typical Russian behavior.
97
Morty_A2666 Apr 8, 2026 +55
I propose dividing Russia so everybody who Russia originally stole land from can get it's own "sovereign territory"...
55
Defiant-Peace-493 Apr 8, 2026 +8
Why does this map just say "New Khanate"?
8
WePwnTheSky Apr 9, 2026 +2
I propose dividing one Russian in particular.
2
rezoner Apr 8, 2026 +18
Dear hoarders. 1) You already have 70% of undeveloped land - maybe do something about that first - it's more readily available than the moon I guess. 2) Wake up. You ain't callin the shots even in your own zone anymore and there are plenty of states with stronger global projection now and they do not make such ridiculous claims. 3) I bet you can't even get there anymore.

Can we NOT lay claims to the damn Moon Antarctica-style?! Anyway ofc its Russia
15
Playwithuh Apr 8, 2026 +4
Really though, let the Moon be unified and not plagued by different countries exerting rule.
4
eternalityLP Apr 8, 2026 +11
Russia has pretty much squandered all the space capabilities they inherited from soviets. These days they can barely launch few satellites, never mind go to the moon. This is just an desperate attempt to sound relevant while their space program lies in ruins.
11
Jonnyflash80 Apr 8, 2026 +6
Indeed. They can't even land a probe on the moon anymore, as evidenced by their 2023 Luna-25 failure. A task that has been achieved by India, Japan, China, even the small independent US company, Intuitive Machines. "Moscow launched its last lunar mission – and the only one in post-Soviet times – called Luna-25 in 2023. But the operation ended in failure after the spacecraft crashed into the lunar surface during its descent."
6
Photonforce Apr 8, 2026 +2
Don't make me laugh, they have somewhere between zero and absolutely nothing for their budget. They aren't building shit to get to the moon.
2
asdhjasdhlkjashdhgf Apr 8, 2026 +4
No objections to move russia onto the moon.
4

The Russian Academy of Sciences are unaware of The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 Leave it to the Russians to flagrantly violate treaties
3
FatFarter69 Apr 8, 2026 +16
They can’t even handle Ukraine, never mind the moon.
16
Under_Over_Thinker Apr 8, 2026 +4
It seems like now it’s about Ukraine handling Russia. Not the other way around
4
DifferentSquirrel551 Apr 8, 2026 +3
Russia. Selling moon real-estate since 1965. BTW the original scammer of that lived in a mansion made of marble after he expatriated from Russia and moved to Boise, ID up in "the Nines". It's goddy af.
3
Upbeat-Whole9897 Apr 8, 2026 +3
The moon belongs to me. It is mine. I will not share with Russia.
3
barktwiggs Apr 8, 2026 +3
Is that why russia is bombing every square meter in Ukraine? They want to turn it into a lunar landscape.
3
-GenghisJohn- Apr 8, 2026 +3
Let’s disband the Russian Academy of Sciences instead.
3
jello1990 Apr 8, 2026 +3
Doesn't that violate like, every treaty regarding space ever signed?

How about there will be no ones territory on the moon but shared space
2
GayGeekInLeather Apr 8, 2026 +2
Not that treaties mean much anymore but the 1967 outer space treaty stated that no nation could claim sovereignty over outer space or any celestial body. I guess they could clam it wouldn’t violate it since they are only claiming a part of it
2
beavedaniels Apr 8, 2026 +2
Man my friends and I did this shit decades ago when we were kids. Keep up, Russia!
2
autistic_insomniac5 Apr 8, 2026 +2
I would just direct them to the following site: https://lunarregistry.com/ For a small fee, Putin can pretend to own a piece of the moon which is as close as they will ever get to landing there.
2
dlebed Apr 8, 2026 +2
It may sound a bit selfish, but as a Ukrainian, can I ask to move the whole Russia to the Moon?
2
DummyDumDragon Apr 8, 2026 +2
Maybe Russia should be more concerned about keeping their earthbound ships safe from a country that doesn't even have a navy, before they start getting worked up about spaceships 😂

Wait for Trump to acknowledge Russias right to the Moon and then offer to lift up sanctions pressure and investments in exchange of some of the territories. Another big win!

Anyone remember [Battlezone](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlezone_(1998_video_game))? Russia vs US fighting on the moon for control of exotic resources. There was an expansion where China joins the fight. Absolutely incredible game 👌👌

1
Lower_Ad_1317 Apr 8, 2026 +1
Don’t they need to step foot on it for claismies? Also, why would other space faring nations, especially growing ones, want to give such privileges to *anybody*?

They really are stuck back in the 19th Century "Realpolitik" nationalistic mindset that led Europe to WW1. Apparently, they only learned about Communism and Nationalism in school, when they got rid of the Communism, that just left them with a totalitarian nationalist mindset and a set of robber barons to plunder resources. I'd feel sorry for them, but I don't.

1
Miserable-Scholar215 Apr 8, 2026 +1
Do you remember the board game Risk? Where you had to conquer the earth with your armies? There was a SF version, too. With underwater areas, and the Moon! It was expensive to go there, so no one did initially. But once the first player launched, everyone struggled to get there too. To not leave easy regions to one player by themselves... Maybe we reached those stages now. Late game, when there is not enough easy pickings on earth left...
1

Actually a great idea Mr. Putin. Send the entire armed forces to the moon. In fact. Send most russians to the moon. You can all have it for free once you land. Wish you a safe trip. Don't vome back. Okay bye.

Da, it is historically Russian. We want to protect the russian speaking public´s safety there. Also: We have to have it because uhh.... Nato or something is threatening our peaceful ways of murder, genocide and pillaging. Why are you so russophobic you cant understand this?

Here's a proposal: How about we do not let the Russians decide over territories that do not belong to them? Instead, how about the Earth's Moon becomes a territory for all of humanity to explore and benefit from?

How much space do they need? Can we just give them some planets and be done with them? They can't even handle what they've already got

As a Lunarian, we don't consider ourselves Russian. We are a proud people who want democracy and a right to self governance. We may not like American military bases here but they're a whole lot better than Russian ones!
