Leave it to Russians to divide a land that doesn't belong to them and that they have no means to exert control over.
1377
Heroyem 2 days ago +288
Russians haven't even landed there
288
mrpoopsocks 2 days ago +38
Technically the US landed there first, put the flag there, so the US owns the moon /j outerspace treaty specifically covers taking advantage of natural resources on the moon and also exo earth warfare ( neither are allowed) but, ya, China blowing up satellites and Russia being Russia and attempting to extend their reach where they have no reason to. So, space wars. Shit is dumb.
38
Blenderhead36 2 days ago +33
Unfortunately, the American flags planted on the moon during the '60s and '70s have been sun-bleached to pure white, making the moon a sovereign territory of France.
33
queen-adreena 2 days ago +17
You mean the nation who’s won more wars than anyone? That one?
17
Wintersage7 2 days ago +5
Doesn't matter. I bet, if they really wanted to, they could get it done in a special 3 day operation.
5
Gold-Strength3255 2 days ago +61
And Russians have a saying that roughly translates as “don’t start butchering (chopping up) a bear before you killed it”.
61
JD3982 2 days ago +12
That cannot be real. That sounds too much like a parody.
12
King_Roberts_Bastard 2 days ago +6
Dont count your chickens before they hatch...
6
Alcogel 2 days ago +5
In danish it’s don’t sell the hide before the bear is shot.  Very common saying in many languages.
5
Zixinus 2 days ago +7
It's also a Hungarian saying, although it has it's own variant. "Don't drink for the bearhide ahead (of time)" or in Hungarian "Ne igyál a medve bőrére".
7
BWander 2 days ago +8
same in spanish! "no vendas la piel del oso antes de haberlo cazado"
8
Lexinoz 2 days ago +2
Similar saying around here, to the tune of "Don't sell the hide before you've shot the bear."
2
KeIIer 2 days ago +7
Because its not real. 'Don't divide a hide of alive bear' is more accurate translation of russian saying.
7
oneofstarks 2 days ago +3
Ohhh, the good old 'Nie dziel skóry na niedźwiedziu'. Poles have it too.

Applying their Ukraine strategy to the Moon now Maybe it will be a special 3 day operation to claim those moon territories too.
9
WesternBlueRanger 2 days ago +5
Typical of the Russians. Their idea of their self worth as a great power is having more territory, so the Moon is yet another piece of territory up for grabs.
5

How about we divide russia instead so we can give some lands back to the country that were assaulted
147
Sumthin-Sumthin44692 2 days ago +31
We could turn Russia into a land that no one person or entity owns and everyone shares all land and resources. We’ll call this system: Share-ism
31
LemurianLemurLad 2 days ago +10
Sounds like this would have tremendous benefits to the *social* structures of their society. Maybe we call it "societism" instead?
10
Sumthin-Sumthin44692 2 days ago +9
Good. Good. But it’s missing a sense of community, like a communion of the people and the land. Maybe communitism? Communionism?
9
LemurianLemurLad 2 days ago +5
I think Karl Marx had something to do with this idea originally. We should give that guy credit! Call it "Karlism." Final offer!
5
Sumthin-Sumthin44692 2 days ago +3
On second thought, there’s no way that Russia would ever go for a system like this. I can see them getting absolutely Red in the face at the idea.
3

Their space program will also not advance in the future no matter how many plans they make for new space stations.

I dunno man, these T-72 auto loaders seem like pretty good contenders for their new launch Vehicle.
19
DummyDumDragon 2 days ago +4
The last ship they managed to land on a rocky barren surface was the Moskva, they really shouldn't be getting ahead of themselves
4
iwantback 2 days ago +76
lol - they’ve never even stepped on it (I’m also pretty sure, the first ever successful Russian lunar mission will send people with some moon guns… after the eventual success of the lunar base)
76
Glittering-Quote-635 2 days ago +14
The only way any Russian is going to the moon is on a Chinese rocket as a guest. Their space program is effectively done when ISS deorbits.
14
NiFiGaS 2 days ago +19
They will be sending people into moon gulag, one way.
19
7ddlysuns 2 days ago +6
Just like Holstomel airport or Odessa invasion!
6
PerAsperaAdAstra1701 2 days ago +3
That would be a pretty expensive gulag ... Falling out of a window is economically more feasible.

Someone should teach the Russian Academy of Sciences to read - the UN Outer Space Treaty says "outer space is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty".
55
Hias2019 2 days ago +33
Because the UN treaties mean anything in today’s world
33
Protato900 2 days ago +19
Maybe not, but Russia is a signatory to the treaty. Serious countries in the UN should rake them over the coals in the general assembly for flagrantly violating the treaty they signed onto.
19

Dear hoarders. 1) You already have 70% of undeveloped land - maybe do something about that first - it's more readily available than the moon I guess. 2) Wake up. You ain't callin the shots even in your own zone anymore and there are plenty of states with stronger global projection now and they do not make such ridiculous claims. 3) I bet you can't even get there anymore.

4
eternalityLP 2 days ago +11
Russia has pretty much squandered all the space capabilities they inherited from soviets. These days they can barely launch few satellites, never mind go to the moon. This is just an desperate attempt to sound relevant while their space program lies in ruins.
11
Jonnyflash80 2 days ago +6
Indeed. They can't even land a probe on the moon anymore, as evidenced by their 2023 Luna-25 failure. A task that has been achieved by India, Japan, China, even the small independent US company, Intuitive Machines. "Moscow launched its last lunar mission – and the only one in post-Soviet times – called Luna-25 in 2023. But the operation ended in failure after the spacecraft crashed into the lunar surface during its descent."
6

Don't make me laugh, they have somewhere between zero and absolutely nothing for their budget. They aren't building shit to get to the moon.

2
GayGeekInLeather 2 days ago +2
Not that treaties mean much anymore but the 1967 outer space treaty stated that no nation could claim sovereignty over outer space or any celestial body. I guess they could clam it wouldn’t violate it since they are only claiming a part of it

They really are stuck back in the 19th Century "Realpolitik" nationalistic mindset that led Europe to WW1. Apparently, they only learned about Communism and Nationalism in school, when they got rid of the Communism, that just left them with a totalitarian nationalist mindset and a set of robber barons to plunder resources. I'd feel sorry for them, but I don't.

Do you remember the board game Risk? Where you had to conquer the earth with your armies? There was a SF version, too. With underwater areas, and the Moon! It was expensive to go there, so no one did initially. But once the first player launched, everyone struggled to get there too. To not leave easy regions to one player by themselves... Maybe we reached those stages now. Late game, when there is not enough easy pickings on earth left...
