I’ll watch Dan Stevens in anything. If you’ve never seen the guest with him it’s a must. It’s a Halloween action thriller and he’s incredible in it.

Crimeskull Apr 15, 2026 +30
First thing I ever saw him in and now I’ll watch him in anything. Phenomenal movie. He was great in Abigail as well.

Legion is a must watch. Him with Noah hawley

MissingLink101 Apr 15, 2026 +12
We need him in a season of Fargo

watelmeron Apr 15, 2026 +10
The Guest is my favorite John Carpenter movie 😉

Strong_Buddy7657 Apr 16, 2026 +3
Adam Winguards next movie looks basically like it's the Guest 2. Pretty stoked for it.

watelmeron Apr 16, 2026 +1
I'm incredibly, incredibly stoked for it. I expect a redic accent from Stevens like in Cuckoo.

InOutlines Apr 16, 2026 +2
Legion on FX baby

Nunwithabadhabit Apr 17, 2026 +1
Apostle is one of my fav horror films, entirely because he's in it

MumblingGhost Apr 15, 2026 +283
The trajectory of this series has become so bizarre lol. The first season was named after the book it was based on, a story about the SHIP, the HMS Terror, on a trip to the Arctic. Then the second season came out with an unrelated setting and with no source material, but at least it was still historical fiction like the first. Now we're in an asylum with Dan Stevens lol. Why even call it The Terror anymore?

perscitia Apr 15, 2026 +151
AMC want that American Horror Story vibe. I don't know why they didn't just relaunch it as a new anthology series and keep The Terror (s1) as a separate show. Really bizarre marketing decision.

Mister_Acula Apr 15, 2026 +95
I guess "the Terror" was too good a title not to reuse.
95
MrGosh13 Apr 15, 2026 +10
I couldn’t get my friends to watch that season, because they thought the name was stupid (even after explaining them, it was the historical name of the ship) Their loss, amazing season! (Didn’t see the second, but I’ll absolutely watch a season of Dan Stevens in a mental hospital! He did that before and it was amazing)
10
svrtngr Apr 15, 2026 +7
Is Aubrey Plaza in this season of the Terror as well? Asking for a friend.
7
MrGosh13 Apr 15, 2026 +3
I do not know, but one can dream!
3
Really_McNamington Apr 15, 2026 +4
I was too familiar with the real story. Did not need all the supernatural guff. A pity, because the cast were excellent.
4
MrGosh13 Apr 15, 2026 +3
As someone not familiar with the story(nor the book. Of which I do not know how historically correct it is), I thought it was excellent. I wasn’t expecting the supernatural stuff, but did enjoy it. I can see why that would feel weird though.
3
Bird-The-Word Apr 16, 2026 +1
The book walks the line of supernatural/eerie men losing their minds kind of thing. I liked the show more, which is watched first, then tried the audiobook and it was a bit boring at times. It was okay, it's just didn't get lost in it like I'd hoped.
1
perscitia Apr 15, 2026 +18
True. I think it would work if there was something or someone named the Terror in each season to at least give it some common thread, but it's just kind of clumsy.
18
Mister_Acula Apr 15, 2026 +19
That would be a nice link. Maybe the mental hospital could be called "The Terror" in this new season. Named after the founder, of course, John Terror.
19
MissingLink101 Apr 15, 2026 +3
Similar to how 'Inside No. 9' does it
3
Conscious-Airline60 Apr 15, 2026 +1
Because "The Terror" is a good title that works for a horror series without a need to have something called that in the show, and season 1's success gives the show free marketing. A new series would mean starting over.
1
Hei_Lap Apr 15, 2026 +11
This one is based on the book by the same name by Victor LaValle but is even less rooted in history than season 2 was.
11
twec21 Apr 15, 2026 +28
Because the seasons gonna end with Crozier kicking in the door of the asylum and saving him
28
ChineseCosmo Apr 15, 2026 +16
It’s gonna make a Crozillion dollars I’m so excited
16
twec21 Apr 15, 2026 +13
Jokes aside, I would've loved if they kept a continuity of cast. Jared Harris as a creepy psychiatrist would be excellent
13
ChineseCosmo Apr 15, 2026 +10
I know you don’t mean it like this but the Japanese Internment camp season would have been bananas if it was all white men and one Native American woman
10
twec21 Apr 15, 2026 +3
Yeah well, not a *full* continuity of cast 🤣 I do still need to watch that season
3
DatTomahawk Apr 15, 2026 +3
Jared Harris is excellent in general and makes everything he’s in better
3
twec21 Apr 15, 2026 +1
I had no idea he was in Mad Men until I watched it a few weeks back, such an awesome surprise
1
DatTomahawk Apr 15, 2026 +2
I’m on season 5 of my first watchthrough and was also pleasantly surprised to see him. I had already seen The Terror and The Expanse, so my appreciation of him as an actor has only increased with Mad Men
2
twec21 Apr 15, 2026 +3

He played the single best Sherlock Holmes ultimate nemesis James Moriarty. If anyone disagrees, book travel to the Reichenbach Falls. I'll see you there.

John_Bruns_Wick Apr 16, 2026 +1
His secretary could be the monster.
1
Internal_Wheel_89 Apr 15, 2026 +26
The Terror is a great name. AMC owns it. Instead of letting it go to waste after a single season, why not see if you can build a brand with an horror anthology series? I don't think it's all that hard to understand. The name works for a scary show even if it was originally about a ship. The name "The Terror" was always doing double duty anyway, even back to when it was the title of the book.
26
Neo-Rex Apr 16, 2026 +1
Yeah, it reminds me of what they tried with 'Halloween' and turn that into an anthology with H3: Season of the Witch
1
SlitSlam_2017 Apr 15, 2026 +13
Channel Zero was a lie too. It was on channel 50 for me.
13
jnighy Apr 15, 2026 +15
yes! I mean, I get the word "Terror" has an appeal, but also..it was the name of the damn ship!
15
Really_McNamington Apr 15, 2026 +4
Should have called season 2 Erebus and confused everyone.
4
Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt Apr 15, 2026 +6
“The Terror” works just fine as a horror anthology title lol
6
Efficient_Paper Apr 15, 2026 +10
AMC’s whole schtick is to try to turn anything remotely successful into a franchise. There’s a billion *Walking Dead* spin-offs, they apparently tried to convince Matthew Weiner to give them permission to make a Sally Draper show, and they actually convinced Vince Gilligan to make *Better Call Saul*. Even *Halt and Catch Fire* started as an attempt to have more *Mad Men*, before turning into its own great thing. I treat most new seasons on anthologies as a brand new show, especially when they change writers between installments. I haven’t seen season 2 of *The Terror*, but between Dan Stevens, Stephen Root and Christopher Cantwell, I’m actually looking forward to this.
10
MumblingGhost Apr 15, 2026
Well said. Perhaps I would be more optimistic about this season if season 2 wasn't disappointing. I really loved the premise and cast.
0
Three_Froggy_Problem Apr 15, 2026 +2
Maybe there are rights issues at play, but what’s odd to me is that if you wanted to do a horror anthology spinning off of The Terror, there are several other Dan Simmons books you could adapt. That would be far less bizarre than just using the title for a bunch of completely unrelated shows.
2
JoXul Apr 15, 2026 +2
It's like Cloverfield just have some random spooky show and throw the terror name on it to get some eyes on it
2
thrillhouse83 Apr 15, 2026 +6
Brand awareness. Studios think the masses are that stupid which they are. So it makes for lame, boring and inconsistent titles
6
NightCheeseUnion Apr 15, 2026 +5
It is like calling all of the Benoit Blanc movies "A Knives Out Mystery" because of the first movie.
5
IvyGold Apr 16, 2026 +1
To be fair, that's not a bad idea for that series. The second one wouldn't have popped out far had it not been.
1
AWorldwithoutSin Apr 15, 2026 +4
The TV show Fargo barely involves Fargo.
4
sentence-interruptio Apr 15, 2026 +2
Reminds me of the Cloverfield "universe": three horror movies which have nothing to do with each other.
2
Strelochka Apr 15, 2026 +2
Because it wasn’t an anthology. The first season is a damn masterpiece (although massively underseen) and has absolutely nothing to do with the second, they just had a new show that wasn’t very good and tried to retrofit it because anthologies were all the rage
2
DoctorDrangle Apr 16, 2026 +1
So there are two other unrelated seasons? Are they worth watching?
1
MumblingGhost Apr 16, 2026 +4
The first season is perhaps one of the best horror miniseries of all time. Definitely worth a watch if you're interested in naval history or cryptids. The isolated winter setting and general paranoia give serious "The Thing" vibes. Second season is a big step down despite having an interesting premise and cast. I'd skip it, unless you're extremely interested in the history of Japanese internment camps in America during WW2.
4
WoburnWarrior Apr 16, 2026 +1
Thank you!
1
Chrissybai38 Apr 16, 2026
No source material for series two? You mean apart from the real life fact that 120000 Japanese American men, women and children were locked up in internment camps in US? And the series used now vintage actors who as children were victims of this injustice.
0
MumblingGhost Apr 16, 2026 +5
Yes, we all know about the Japanese internment camps, and that George Takei has real world experience with them. "No source material" means its an original screenplay, rather than an adapted screenplay like the first season. I called it historical fiction because im aware it has a real basis in history. Original films don't stop having original screenplays when they're inspired by true events.
5
Conscious-Airline60 Apr 15, 2026
Well, the third season is also named after the book it's based on. As for "The Terror", the good thing about the title is that it can be used without the ship since it has another meaning. As for the lack of historical setting, they tried that with season 2 and it was considered a failure so they probably decided to focus more on story than the setting.

BagOfFerrets34 Apr 15, 2026 +39
Dan Stevens plus asylum horror is such a good combo, definitely getting Legion energy. Might be worth rewatching The Terror S1 to reset expectations before this new tone.
39
get_your_yapers_up Apr 15, 2026 +12
I love so much that Dan Steven is pretty much in wild horror/sci fi stuff with the exception of playing human beast in live action Beauty and the Beast. Edit: I was not familiar with Downton Abbey and apologize to all those offended by my mistake.
12
SuperSparkles Apr 15, 2026 +12
His Downton Abbey erasure WILL NOT STAND.
12
get_your_yapers_up Apr 15, 2026
My mistake, never watched it or knew he was a part of it.

ShitPostPerfected Apr 16, 2026 +1
He's also the new (always was the) voice of Korvo on Solar Opposites and he does a great job.
1
nodevon Apr 16, 2026 +3
Was getting AI "energy" from this fairly braindead comment, checked the history and yep - LLM nonsense ad infinitum
3
Anneisabitch Apr 15, 2026 +44
I’m hoping this is good but releasing it a few years after it’s been filmed is not a good sign😬
44
keving87 Apr 15, 2026 +12
Not really that uncommon for a streaming show, Amazon in particular holds basically everything for a year after it's done filming. AMC probably was deciding if they'd air it on TV or stick it only on AMC+ instead.
12
Conscious-Airline60 Apr 15, 2026 +4
It was filmed during the summer of 2024. Not unusual these days that it takes over a year before its released. Season 1 also took that long.
4
healingtwo_ Apr 15, 2026 +14
Somehow Legion returned.

At last ! What is it , like 6 years since season 2?

SuperSparkles Apr 15, 2026 +14
Dan Stevens definitely isn't picking the mainstream path to fame - dude thrives on weirdo shit and I'm 100% all-in.
14
redditingtonviking Apr 15, 2026 +8
I’m yet to find him in a role I don’t enjoy
8
MissingLink101 Apr 15, 2026 +6
I've really enjoyed his career although there was one point where he was being linked with the Bond role which would have been awesome to see too
6
DoctorG0nzo Apr 15, 2026 +6
Feel like I haven’t seen a soul mention that this is based on a book. A really great book by Victor LaValle! I’m sure there will be changes, but I’m excited to see it onscreen. I also like the idea of future seasons of The Terror being anthology seasons adapting different high quality horror books.
6
onlyhalfrobot Apr 15, 2026 +4
A cute stand-in for the creepy history of Bellevue
4
canycosro Apr 15, 2026 +5
The first season really made me realise how pushing the edge of what was possible lots those voyages were. I real a few accounts of sailors back in the day and shit could side ways so easily. Lots of people claiming to be experts and making it up as they go along You get a bad captain We can't understand how big and untamed that world was back then. In a way that were the astronauts of their days. The first season hits just as hard if you take away anything supernatural You get a bad captain
5
gunslingrburrito Apr 15, 2026 +4
I'm looking forward to it and it has a stacked cast, but I wish it were some kind of historical setting. Horror in any place in history other than the modern day.
4
MelancholyEcho Apr 15, 2026 +3
Seems like it would’ve been perfect in a 1970s setting.
3
cappsy04 Apr 15, 2026 +5
This is the third day in a row I've seen Dan Stevens news on this sub, all different projects. Man has ramped up
5
MissingLink101 Apr 15, 2026 +3
Yup, new Dexter villain and a new BBC series 'Legacy of Spies'. More Dan Stevens is always a good thing!
3
voivod1989 Apr 15, 2026 +7
Why remove the historical horror aspect?
7
CleaveWarsaw Apr 15, 2026 +4
Yeah, I'm way less interested in this without that aspect. Granted, I didn't watch season 2, but I really liked the historical aspect of season 1 and figured that was kind of the Brand for this show
4
HawasKaPujari Apr 15, 2026 +10
This is reminding me of Legion a little bit
10
RadSkeleton808 Apr 15, 2026 +5
Dan Stevens is the man. From the stills I was like "this is just David from Legion" but simply doing the accent and the body language in this trailer it automatically feels like a fresh character. Dudes a good actor.
5
elegantjihad Apr 15, 2026 +3
It'll be revealed that Cousin Matthew's experience at Downton was all just a dream.

forkandspoon2011 Apr 16, 2026 +2
How many men did Dan Stevens have to beat off to get this role?
2
IvyGold Apr 16, 2026 +2
OK. I've seen enough. Already too thoroughly creeped out to watch. ^Although ^I ^know ^I ^will. The Terror usually has an anchor to something that happened in real life. Was there actually a hospital like this?
2
JohnnyTurbine Apr 16, 2026 +2
Dan Stevens typecast as "unreliable narrator who escapes from insane asylum."
2
Inaword_Slob Apr 16, 2026 +2
AHS already did it.
2
Lossagh Apr 16, 2026 +2
Love Dan Stevens, but god almighty I wish he'd do a nice cosy romantic role. LMAO.
2
No_Room_3932 Apr 16, 2026 +1
If you haven’t seen it watch I’m Your Man
1
Lossagh Apr 17, 2026 +1
Oh yes! I have yet to see that. Thank you for the reminder!!
1
Shapes_in_Clouds Apr 15, 2026 +3
I think it will be hard for any asylum horror show to top AHS Season 2, which I think is a masterpiece and just delightfully over the top and completely bat shit. But, I'll give this a chance.
3
Limplecomp Apr 15, 2026 +2
If the show ends up being as good as the book it’s based on then it’ll surpass AHS S2!
2
JimmyTheJimJimson Apr 15, 2026 +2
Season 1 was fantastic, and season 2 was a giant pile of poop. I hope season 3 is better!!
2
moileduge Apr 15, 2026 +1
So would the author of the book (Season 1 based on) get paid for these other seasons? Seems like a sweet deal.
1
perscitia Apr 15, 2026 +5
Probably not, since he died in February: https://arstechnica.com/culture/2026/02/hyperion-author-dan-simmons-dies-from-stroke-at-77/
5
moileduge Apr 15, 2026 +1
Oh yeah, I remember learning something else about the author that day.  Had a few good books, tho...
1
Internal_Wheel_89 Apr 15, 2026 +1
Wow, what a stacked cast. I also love Dan Stevens. So, why was I not all that taken with this trailer? Huh.

Aww man, i was hoping they would continue with historical fiction and do a season about the Donner party.

I love the anthology of the Terror, don't love that it isn't on AMC
1
STEAL-THIS-NAME Apr 15, 2026 +1

cefriano Apr 15, 2026 +1
The Devil in Silver, the Devil with Yellow Eyes- Dan Steven’s racking up devils.
1
gosquirrelgo Apr 15, 2026 +1
Dan Stevens cannot catch a break re: institutionalization.
1
ishtar_the_move Apr 16, 2026 +1
What made The Terror S1 so incredible wasn't the monster. It was the extraordinary situation the characters were in and how they react to it. The monster was the least interesting part of it. I think I will pass on this one.
1
WoburnWarrior Apr 16, 2026 +1
Why is this tied to The Terror?
1
DPC_1 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Should do carrion comfort for the next season
