I think it's one of the more unique shows that's been on TV in the past 20 years, and it's definitely worth a watch.
It's one of those series where the creator had an incredibly specific vision for the kind of stylistic product he wanted to create. Because of that, sometimes the plot takes a bit of a back seat and you can have moments where you're like, "Wait, what is actually happening again?" because you're watching so many trippy visual sequences (it's a show with several powerful psychic mutants as main characters after all). And that has contributed to it having something of a polarizing reputation in the broader TV viewing community I think, because some people lose interest if they're not really sure where things are going after awhile.
But as long as you're not the type of viewer where you desperately need the plot to be constantly driving forward and be front and center every minute of every episode (which is fine if that's anyone's jam, we all have our own tastes), then it's a pretty cool experience.
The visual style of the show is truly awesome. You know how so many superhero movies and shows often just boil down to the hero and villain going "pew pew" and shooting laser beams directly at each other to see whose is bigger, because they couldn't think of anything more creative? Legion is like the ultimate antithesis of that. All of the powers, the battles between psychic characters, etc. are presented so uniquely and creatively, it's really fascinating to watch as a result.

The ending was so bad, so so so so so bad period I know some people liked it. I thought it betrayed every single thing about the entire series. It was just mind blowingly terrible. That's my opinion. I know many don't share

The ending was fine ish, season 3 overwall felt like it was rewritten, s2 was definately re written they had a completely different actor cast as farouk. I think if the show had been more consistent in its vision itd be a master piece but Hawley seems to be really good at maintaining a narrative but only within one season.

It didn't quite go where I was expecting but that's what I liked about it. If they had gone with >!either a generic "David finally just defeats Farouk, yay" ending or a "David is the evil one we have to kill him" ending like it seemed they simplistically could have, it would've felt kinda flat. I felt like the ending they went with was true to the whole "everything is shades of gray and you can never be sure what is really right or real" vibe that suffused much of the series.!<

There shouldn’t have been. And it’s insanity they keep using that title. The first season of The Terror was based on the book The Terror which was an historical fiction centered around the ship HMS Terror. AMC then after the fact decided to make it an anthology series where the *theme* is terror and all subsequent seasons are otherwise completely unrelated.

panamaquinaMar 19, 2026

The anthology idea was fine, hopefully this third season can salvage some of the atmosphere and idea of the first season, but that second season was inexcusable, not one thing was memorable from it, was such a waste of time and a huge disappointment, surprised there’s even enough to use the name The Terror for a third season.

You can’t build an anthology around an existing work and then just use the title as a catch-all for stories that have nothing to do with the original source material. That’s both illogical and exceedingly lazy.
9
panamaquinaMar 19, 2026
+5
I mean it is but they still could have done a decent story or try to find a better theme to go with what happened in the first season, I’m strictly judging it as a TV show now , not knowing about the book.

Well, I mean... it's not like the book and TV series were named after the other ship, the Erebus. If there was an Erebus season 2 set in a Japanese internment camp about a spooky ghost, yeah, that would be stupid. But *the terror* can very easily be used to refer to a different terror, not just the ship. It would be no different if they based it on a ship called The Horror or The Monster and the next season was a different story about a different horror or monster.

Dan Simmons, the author of The Terror, wrote another book called Drood. It's about Charles Dickens surviving a real-life train accident and being terrorized an entity known only as the Drood. It would've made for a fantastic season 2 of The Terror. Alas!

I'm very disappointed, because I was hoping any further work with The Terror would keep exploring historical horror events. Now we're just adapting fiction books, which feels antithetical to the spirit of the first season.
Which yes, I know that both S1 and 2 veer into fantastical elements, but S1 balanced the real life terror the crewmen experienced while keeping the intensity up with an unseen threat that forces them to stay alert.
Season 2, while having a much weaker story and less compelling cast, still tries to adhere to this sense of real world terror and fantastical horror. I think the mid-season reveal for the monster is probably the best sequence in that whole season, of genuine horror and sadness.
Frankly, this plot synopsis just sounds... kinda bleh. No offense to the author, cuz it's not his fault or anyone who's making the show, this just doesn't feel like the same vibe anymore.

I could be wrong, but I don't think S1 of The Terror was based on The Endurance (from Shackleton's Antarctic expedition). I've read The Terror is a fictionalized version of the Franklin Arctic Expedition which actually had a ship named the HMS Terror along with another named HMS Erebus.

Dan Stevens has a weird face. Don't get me wrong, it's a great face but somehow he always looks like he's in a parody. He has resting smirk face. It's like he's the only one in on the joke. I'm looking forward to this as (like Legion) it suits the material.
