Season 1 was *incredible* in my opinion. Very, very good horror series. Season 2 had its moments but was mostly just bizarre to me. Season 3 has potential

Yeah, I devoured the first season in days just some weeks ago, but in season 2 I dropped out after episode 3. It just didn’t click. The atmosphere and terror of the first season is just unmatched.

The supernatural horror of S2 didn't affect me much, but tbh it taught me a lot about how the Japanese were treated in the US during WW2 and that was even more horrifying. S1 is just amazing all round.

Yeah the camps were pretty bleak. I think that stuff was the best part of the show.

pofwiwice Apr 14, 2026 +2
Yeah honestly if you took out all the ghost stuff it would just be a solid story about a family going through internment. I would watch that.

I didn't dislike season 2 but the lead's acting was atrocious.

I didn't even know there was a third season coming lol. Not sure if I even want to check it out after season 2. The anthology format didn't really work, the second season is just way less interesting and pretty much worse in every regard from the pretty excellent first season.

The anthology structure also allows for a better third attempt, since it will again be stand-alone, unbothered by the weaker second season. Since I loved the first one, I'll check reviews at least to see if they're back to good form.

The problem with anthology series scripts is that if a premise is good enough, it'd be adapted to its own thing they could sell independently. By that very nature it will always be a diminishing return. Its been true in virtually every instance of anthology series.  Ive only seen one to date that I can recall that could stand on its own, as if nothing that came before it existed, and still be excellent. That would be Blackadder Goes Forth.  Every instance across every genre i can think of other than that suffers from greatly diminished returns. True Detective, Miracle Workers, Slasher, etc.

Nah I will not stand for this slander against Miracle workers, s1 is okay, and then it just gets better, s4 is goated for Radcliffe going full feral alone. I want all the Poo Poo!!!

Sobotoc4311 Apr 14, 2026 +1
Agree to disagree. Season one was my favorite. Ill say this, it worked a bit better than most because it followed the Blackadder formula of same cast rotating story, so it kept a bit of that improv.  But i didn't even know there was a season 4 till just now. So thank you for that. If you hold it up as the best season I'll give it a shot.

Sure, it is comedy, which is subjective so no biggie, but Radcliffe going all in is its own charm after growing up with HP, I did keep the terror s1 for later rewatches, but yeah Blackadder and Miracle workers are the only anthology series of that format I keep in rotation for a rewatch every year or so, so do give the final season a go, I recently found the Outer Limits and other shows like it, good stuff with a lot of long seasons.

I agree. The issue is the first season is based on a book of a specific real-life mysterious event. The name even works on multiple levels with it being the ship and as a semi-horror show. The 2nd season is just based on a generally bad timeframe but without a specific event tying it all together. The characters go teleporting around to wherever the plot needs them so the whole thing is disjointed.

Yeah season 2 was such a letdown compared to the first one. That first season was absolutely incredible with the whole Franklin expedition thing, but then they went completely different direction and it just didn't hit the same Maybe they're keeping it quiet because they know people weren't super excited after season 2? I haven't seen anything either which is pretty weird for something dropping so soon

gramfer Apr 14, 2026 +4
> they know people weren't super excited after season 2 Why did they call it "The Terror season 3" then? All those seasons aren't connected to each other in any way except the genre of horror. This season is an adaptation of the novel called "Devil in Silver." AMC could have just named the show "Devil in Silver" and pitch it to the audience as a miniseries, I think it's a pretty cool name.

This is why right here though. Its because a project isn't good enough to stand on its own two feet, but could allow a cash in job off of the good will of other projects. Studios have been doing this with direct to DVD and vhs sequels for decades.  The problem with season wide anthologies is if a project is good enough to stand on its own, it could have its own title and generate more buzz, along with better reviews via a different expectation of outcome through marketing.  But even if it isn't good and can be made c**** enough then they can still profit without diminishing the original story by hijacking the brand.

It was less the format and more that season 2 was made my completely different people and completely bad. There should some attempt at congruency and thematic consistency. Shows like Fargo and True Detective have also had different quality season seasons but they're at least similar and there's been a few really good ones.

People should watch “ the north water” with Jack O’Connell and Colin Farrell, feel like people who liked the terror s1 will be into it

Give me more people stranded in the ice shows please, there’s a weird comfort to them for me

gramfer Apr 14, 2026 +2
Just don't watch True Detective: Night Country, if you haven't done it yet (if you have done it, I am so sorry). There will be season 3 of Vigil starring Suranne Jones and the redhead from Game of Thrones with them being sent to some polar station in Svalbard to investigate some (mass?) murder in British special forces' unit. It's not a great show, but it has its moments, and they had some interesting messages in previous seasons before in became mainstream. And, of course. there were a classic episode of The X-files, "Ice." And Fortitude. And an Icelandic show literally called "Trapped."

TechPriest97 Apr 14, 2026 +1
I’ve only seen s1 of true detective, no interest in the other seasons. I will check out your recommendations though, thanks.

I've seen Jack O'Connell in a lot and I still have no idea what he looks like. Every picture of him looks like a different human.

I liked him a lot in *Lady Chatterly’s Lover*. He hangs dong.

eloquenentic Apr 13, 2026 +4
The North Water felt like a true sequel in its ambiance. Amazing show. But The Terror season 1 was unique, to me it’s one of the best shows of all time. The acting and the writing is just absolutely incredible.

First I'm hearing about it, and damn that's a stacked cast. Dan Stevens, Aasif Mandvi, CCH Pounder, Stephen Root, Marin Ireland. Kind of disappointed they seem to be abandoning the "period piece" themes/aesthetic that defined the first two seasons.
10
MissingLink101 Apr 14, 2026 +4
Wait it has Dan Stevens?! My hype just went up even more! I'm shocked that this post is the first I'm hearing about it
4
SmokeontheHorizon Apr 14, 2026 +3
Right? Dan Stevens in a supernatural/psychological horror series is an easy sell

TIL the terror has a 3rd season coming out... I haven't watch S02 cause the reviews were pretty bad. Will also wait for the reviews on S03.

I watched most of season 2 and tbh it's so forgettable. It's about Japanese spirits haunting an intermittent camp in America during ww2 (that also affect a dude on deployment in the Pacific). I think besides that I remember George takai being in it and that's it

rov124 Apr 14, 2026 +2
> an **intermittent** camp **Internment**, unless you mean the camp was on and off.

When they first announced the premise for season 2 I was pretty excited, but it just did not work. Hopeful again for season 3 though

It is crazy to me that a show which is ongoing and enjoyed rave reviews isn't on any streaming service in my region. The first 2 seasons are for purchase on prime but that's it. Why are they hiding it?

moosefre Apr 13, 2026 +1
What region? Watched season 1 on Netflix in the US around the holidays here
1
fauxfilosopher Apr 13, 2026 +3
Northern Europe. Many popular shows have gotten the same treatment before, but none that were ongoing as far as I know!
3
rov124 Apr 14, 2026 +1
> but none that were ongoing as far as I know! The last season of this show was released in 2019, 7 years is enough time for streaming rights to expire.

gramfer Apr 13, 2026 +6
They also shot it in 2024 and basically have been sitting on it almost for two years. I guess it says a lot of the quality of the show. I haven't seen anything on YouTube yet. But there has been a 15 second teaser on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/MovieCoverage/videos/inside-new-hyde-reality-disappears-the-terror-devil-in-silver-premieres-may-7-on/840174049109276/

Reminds of what happened to Outcast. Barely any marketed. Released internationally months ahead of when it aired in the US (despite being an American show). And the American release happened with little to no fanfare
3
keving87 Apr 13, 2026 +2
It *finished* in the UK on June 5th 2017 but didn't even *start* in the US until July 20th 2018, so it was actually over a full year later. Outcast was produced by Fox, so Fox aired it on their UK station. Cinemax was just being stupid.
2
rov124 Apr 14, 2026 +1
Same thing happened to Orphan Black: Echoes.

keving87 Apr 13, 2026 +3
There's not even a season 3 poster yet either. Usually those happen when a date is announced.

The premiere is at cannes series at the end of the month, promo should start soon.

Last few days I was wondering the exact same thing

Season 1 is one of the best seasons of TV out there and it's *so* slept on

KennyShowers Apr 13, 2026 +1
AMC doesn’t do much promotion for anything. Interview With the Vampire, Dark Winds, not even sure what else they have from recent years.

whorificustotalus Apr 14, 2026 +1
Richard Gadd's Half-Man premieres in April as well and its trailer only just dropped last week. So it's not that unusual, should be any day now.

Furies Season 2 on Netflix didn’t receive a trailer either

Honestly... ...wouldn't it be cool if the Terror from season one just rose from the depths and started hunting down the relatives of its crew to turn them into a ghost crew? Not sure where that came from...

kinda weird they're being so quiet about it.. maybe they're going for some mysterious marketing angle since it's a horror show? idk but i'm still hyped for it regardless.

loopsurgeon Apr 13, 2026 -1
kinda weird they're not hyping it up more, the first season was so good. maybe they're going for a surprise drop strategy?

How was there even a season 2? I assumed it was only one season since it felt like the stretched a few episodes into 10 hours of content to tell it.

its anthology.
