The Transporter trilogy is some of the most purely fun action cinema of the 2000s and deserves more credit

Posted by LowApprehensive3601

Jason Statham as Frank Martin is one of the most underrated action heroes ever put on screen. The rules the suits, the hand to hand choreography everything about this character just works. Louis Leterrier's direction on the first two films gave it a kinetic energy that most action movies today struggle to replicate. The bus fight in Transporter 2 alone is a masterclass in creative stunt work. The third film is a noticeable step down Olivier Megaton's direction felt a lot more chaotic and less precise but the first two still hold up really well. How do you rank the three? And does Frank Martin deserve more recognition as an iconic action hero?

All I can remember about these movies is the bit where he unwraps a new dress shirt from his trunk after a fight. Always thought that was cool.

That shirt scene is everything

Good action films, but the drop off in quality is so noticeable as the trilogy progresses. I think the third one is barely watchable.

I dunno, I’d actually argue the second is better than the first. Knocking a bomb off the underside of his car by spinning it and perfectly clipping a crane, that fight in the stairwell with a fire hose… it has some peak self-aware moments of ludicrousness. And that fire hose scene feels like something Jackie Chan could’ve choreographed.

Second has better action. First is a better story. I personally don’t like the fast and furious style f*** you reality action, but I do like you framing it as self aware ludicrousness. I’m probably going to use that in the future.

Agreed. 3 is garbage and has the same director who did Taken 3.

The first one was so indie and established Statham as a lead, other than that recognizable guy from Guy Ritchie movies. Second one was watchable and by the time the 3rd came out there were like 5 other Statham movies in the last 2 years and I think i turned it off lol.

Statham deserves more credit, therefore this trilogy/character deserves more credit. I agree with pretty much everything you wrote, except I may like 3 a bit more. I really loved the Eastern European villainess.

The first one was great.

I was always amused by the idea that Audis were completely indestructible until the warranty ran out.

the planning he does and how he takes care of his car. and I loved all those countryside shots.

The Leterrier vs Megaton comparison is something more people should talk about. You can literally feel the difference in craft between the first two films and the third. Leterrier understood that good action choreography needs room to breathe - wide shots, clear geography, letting the stunt work speak for itself. Megaton just... cuts everything to death. The oil drum fight in the first movie is still impressive to watch. Statham clearly put real work into the physicality of the role and Leterrier gave him the space to show it off. That said I think part of why the Transporter movies don't get as much critical recognition is the plots are genuinely pretty thin, even by action movie standards. But honestly that's almost beside the point - sometimes you just want to watch a guy in a suit beat up thirty people and drive really fast, and these films deliver that better than almost anything else from that era.

Also the first one had Corey Yuen directing the action so it has that Hong Kong tier action movie feel to it

Megaton did the Taken sequels as well.

Statham’s movies are exciting if you buy in. The second one is my favourite. Transporter and crank are so fun.

I don't remember if it's 1 or 2 but Frank takes on a bunch of toughs in a garage covered in spilled oil, and he puts clips on his feet and still kicks the sh*t out of them . Realistic? No...but I'm not here for realism. 😎

Just because its not talked about much more than 20 years after it came out does not make it underated. Its just that everything''s already been said. They got plenty of credit and were very plenty well rated, since they kicked off his career as a lead character and action star. Hes played variations of that F4ank Martin ever since.

No it doesn’t. The third movie was hot garbage. The first 2 were good though.

fr, the first two Transporter movies are classics that totally redefined action flicks. i’d rank them 1 > 2 > 3, with Statham just killing it as Frank; he’s lowkey a legend in the genre.
3
LowApprehensive3601 Mar 28, 2026 +3
Same ranking for me 1 and 2 are untouchable 3 felt like a different movie.
3
IceLord86 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Funny, 2 feels completely out of place to me with 3 far more in line with the first than the over-blown and hyper stylized second one.

The bus depot fight sequence in the first film is one of Statham's best.

Try watching #3 in dubbed Spanish in Mexico 4 nights in a row and your opinion might change. Yes, fight scenes (more like mass suicide scenes) are ok nod to Enter The Dragon. But these are not well constructed movies.

3, 2, 1. Not a fan of the 1st one, but the 3rd is one of my favorite movies of all time lol I've seen it like 10 times.

keyboardtoes Mar 28, 2026 +1
Why is it so Good? I haven't seen it. I like Jason Statham but his movies tend to start really good and then get too much into the action and I lose the thread of story.

It's ridiculous and hilarious but the acting is good enough that I actually give a shit about everyone. I do also have XXX on my top 4 so it's possible I just love it because I grew up on these kinds of movies lol
