Elections must be held in Israel no later than October. With Orbán out the door in Hungary, Trump is trying to shore up his remaining international buddies.

America has red lines in Israel? Looks more and more like a blank check to me.

This commentary has a problem of scale. It can simultaneously true that there are small groups of Jewish terrorists, unaffiliated with the government, in the West Bank, and that military aid helping Israel defend itself on multiple fronts is sensible. Ukraine was highly corrupt and disfunctional in 2022, that doesn't mean it should be overrun by Russian invasion.

Ukraine was highly corrupt in 2014. By 2022 its corruption levels had fallen precipitously.

I heard this was because all the Russians had to leave... Or they're simply hiding it for Western aid. Hard to know.

[The ones that the IDF regularly arrest.](https://www.timesofisrael.com/five-settlers-arrested-accused-of-acts-of-terror-toward-security-forces/)

In the article it says they arrested them after they targeted security forces. What actually needs to happen is that they're arrested whenever they attack Palestinian civilians, too, and generally that settler terrorism against Palestinians is prosecuted the exact same way as Palestinian terrorism against Israelis. And ultimately, Israel just has to stop supporting those settlers. Achieving peace is unrealistic as long as Palestinians aren't treated as equals who should ultimately have full control over their land, with Israel and Palestine coexisting as peaceful neighbours. And of course Palestine also has to guarantee safety and equal rights to its Jewish residents, but it should be clear that any settlers who settle down in Palestine live under Palestinian law and authority.

> Achieving peace is unrealistic as long as Palestinians aren't treated as equals who should ultimately have full control over their land The problem being that who owns the land is disputed. Much of the clusterfuck we see today is based on the framework of the Oslo accords, which Israeli governments have been taking full advantage of to expand settlements in a manner they frame as legitimate.

> The problem being that who owns the land is disputed. One out of many problems, but those problems can and should be solved. Unfortunately, there are too many people in powerful positions who seem to have no interest in solving those issues peacefully and constructively.

Can you find details about them getting more than arrested? I would bet my lunch tomorrow on the fact that they were released with a warning to continue terrorising Palestinians without messing with the security forces. I have seen VIDEOS of IDF supporting these terrorists.

> Can you find details about them getting more than arrested? I believe the [conviction rate](https://apnews.com/article/settler-violence-netanyahu-palestinians-israel-502ad2d020a6ff0a1b525c52bd72c8ed) is something like 3% for settler extremists. Before you go 'lul 3%', that's not such a strange result, if we compare to say, the UK (which typically has much better infrastructure to produce good evidence). https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/crime-outcomes-in-england-and-wales-2024-to-2025/crime-outcomes-in-england-and-wales-2024-to-2025 Investigation -> Conviction rates are fairly low.

The stance of the Israeli organisations are solidly against settler terrorism: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israeli-police-arrest-four-suspected-over-settler-attack-palestinian-village-2024-08-22/ https://apnews.com/article/settler-violence-netanyahu-palestinians-israel-502ad2d020a6ff0a1b525c52bd72c8ed https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2025-06-28/ty-article/.premium/six-israeli-settlers-arrested-after-assault-on-idf-troops-in-west-bank/00000197-b55e-de01-a39f-fffec1480000 https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/aug/23/israeli-security-chief-ronen-bar-hilltop-youth-west-bank https://www.timesofisrael.com/shin-bet-chief-said-to-downplay-jewish-terrorism-in-west-bank-as-friction/ However, individuals like Zini downplaying such actions are not helpful.

> Ukraine was highly corrupt and dysfunctional in 2022 I think you need to go back about a decade for that. My understanding is they started digging out from under that corruption in the 2010s.
