Really hope the rebranding and making directly use of the popular name and figure of Lestat in the title (as it should be, following the book) will attract some new viewers. The show's really not as popular as it should be.

It’s so annoying when people talk about heated rivalry like it’s the horniest gay thing ever when this show exists and is way hornier and better
227
Christopher_Nolan- 3 days ago +88
Blame AMC for not properly utilising their partnership with Netflix like BBC does.
88
clycoman 3 days ago +36
Because they tried to promote their own streaming service, and barely anyone even knows about it let alone uses it.
36
Ill-Muscle945 3 days ago +16
An AMC streaming service is an insane reach.
16
Infamous-Lab-8136 3 days ago +13
An AMC streaming service that doesn't have Mad Men OR Breaking Bad exclusively is even more insane IMO And Mad Men isn't even available in 4K on the service for the network that aired it, the supposed highest quality version is available on HBO Max (or whatever it's called this week)
13
thedaveness 3 days ago +7
AMC that made every single wrong decision possible with The Walking Dead, f*** those guys.
7
NeoNoireWerewolf 2 days ago +2
AMC does not own Breaking Bad; Sony does. Sony has a streaming deal with Netflix, that is why Breaking Bad has stayed there. Mad Men isn’t wholly owned by them, either; Lionsgate was the primary production company.
2
gagreel 2 days ago +2
Can you imagine if AMC started their own streaming service? That would be *such* a disaster
2
Mrmoi356 3 days ago +34
I absolutely adore the show but after the first 3 episodes, it's really not that horny or even that gay, one Claudia is introduced the show really slows down on the amount sex scenes Lestat and Louis have.
34
ComfortableExotic646 3 days ago +35
I think it just grows out of the honeymoon phase and into the actual toxic relationship that it is. The show is very gay, but it's not just the "s***" parts.
35
MichaelMyersEatsDogs 3 days ago +18
The main plot is about a love triangle between three dudes. I think it’s pretty gay
18
xtothewhy 2 days ago +5
Vampires in a way have always been about sexiness and desire and power and in this series, frailty. This does show sexuality but it seems to be on their terms.
5
SydneyBriarIsAlive 3 days ago +14
As a straight dude, I technically have no horse in this race. But as a Canadian and horror fan I am very conflicted. Gotta hand it to IWTV / Vampire Lestat though if I have to pick.
14
Arkeolog 2 days ago +11
They’re such different shows though. I don’t agree that IWTV is better than Heated Rivalry (HR is f****** crack in TV show form), but it is fantastic and absolutely a milestone in queer tv. To me, Heated Rivalry is sexier. I just think the intimacy they managed to portray in HR is like nothing else I’ve seen. I do need to rewatch season 1 of IWTV though.
11
Stoopid007 2 days ago +1
Season 1 of young Royals captures a similar level of intimacy like HR. Its very well crafted, wonderful actors with great chemistry and excellent use of music. Unfortunately Season 2 was average and S3 was almost unwatchable. But S1 has a complete arc.
1
Arkeolog 2 days ago +1
I watched Young Royals and I liked it, but it didn’t stand out to me in terms of intimacy. I know it has a really dedicated following though, so perhaps I missed something when originally watching it.
1
JemmaP 1 day ago +3
Heated Rivalry is a love story (that is also gay and horny). IWTV is great, but it's a toxic as hell relationship (that is also gay and horny). The audiences do overlap a bit, but seeing queer people get joy and happy endings on TV has historically been kind of rare. I do hope this season (Lestat) gets some more eyes, though, because they're doing good shit with it IMO.

MunchYourButt 3 days ago +6
Why didn’t anyone say that sooner?? I’m sold. Wait so, they changed the title from Interview with a Vampire or am I misunderstanding?
6
MichaelMyersEatsDogs 3 days ago +30
The books are called The Vampire Chronicles and Interview with the Vampire is the first book in the series. The first two seasons of that show covered the first book and now they’re moving to Vampire Lestat which is the second book in the series. I’m assuming this will be another two seasons then they’ll move on to the third book, Queen of the Damned. I will say it’s an adaption that’s even better than the original. Most of the major story beats are the same but they made some fairly big changes that only make tv story stronger. It’s legitimately one of the best shows in the last decade.
30
MunchYourButt 3 days ago +10
Thank you for the clarification! I’m definitely going to start watching tonight (I was already convinced from your first comment, but this solidified it!)
10
Infamous-Lab-8136 3 days ago +12
A lot of book purists instantly discounted it because of the changes, but as the other person said I think they strengthened it I feel like a lot of negativity about it before it even aired led to it having an uphill battle
12
Cole-Spudmoney 2 days ago +1
> I’m assuming this will be another two seasons then they’ll move on to the third book, Queen of the Damned. It's been a while since I read them, but I wouldn't be surprised if "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" got one season each.
1
MichaelMyersEatsDogs 2 days ago +1
Vampire Lestat is nearly twice as long as interview. Queen of the damned is in between them. Interview is the shortest book in the series I believe
1
Familiar-Banana-8116 2 days ago +1
As I remember the books the first book is about Louis. The second book is about Lestat. At some point writing the 2nd book Anne Rice just sort of went, 'You know what? Lestat is my special boy.' And a LOT of what comes later is centered around Lestat. Throwing this all up on the tubby means trimming some fat. If they want to rebrand it to 'The Vampire Lestat' I am OK with that. It works.
1
MyDearDapple 12 hr ago +1
Annoying? So you're one of *those* kind of fans.
1
cthulhuhentai 3 days ago
it 100% is not as horny as heated rivalry & that's one of my chief complaints of the show
0
defiancy 3 days ago +32
I mean it mirrors the book the are adapting. It would be kinda cool if they rebranded the show along with each book they do but I could also understand if they kept it The Vampire Lestat since he is the main character until The Vampire Armand.
32
InvestigatorOk7015 3 days ago +21
Lestst is the main character for the remainder of her books, other than some little crossovers and a wolfman
21
defiancy 3 days ago +15
He's not the main character in The Vampire Armand, he only wakes up during Merrick since he was asleep after Memnoch. He also isn't really the main character of Blood and Gold. Those three are main entries in the Vampire Chronicles. He is in the rest though starting with Blackwood Farm
15
InvestigatorOk7015 3 days ago +5
Vampire lestat, body thief, memnoch, blackwood farm, blood canticle, prince lestat and the atlantis books are all lestat. Armand and Vittorio and carious others have books too, but Lestat was still being written when she died lmao
5
ProfSkeevs 3 days ago +6
I am sure they will do two seasons of Lestat, building up to Queen of the Damned for 2 seasons. Beyond that would be totally up in the air
6
AthenaQ 3 days ago +3
Omg I hope!
3
70stang 2 days ago +3
The Talamasca show points almost directly to The Body Thief in a couple of spoiler-y ways.
3
boomosaur 2 days ago +3
It's not as popular because most people just assume it's another twilight/vampire diaries type show. The people attracted to those types of shows check it out, and realize it's something different and check out. This trailer isn't doing it any favors in that department.
3
xtothewhy 2 days ago +1
For some reason I had difficulty with first third or half of the initial season and then slept on it for awhile. In a way it's made it different and I've really enjoyed watching season 2.
1
kazh_9742 2 days ago +1
Maybe the trailer was just cut really well but even if I didn't know about the show, those shots were pretty effective.
1
GlacialEmbrace 2 days ago +1
I think it has to do with availability. Paying for an AMC+ sub isn't worth it compared to all the other streaming services out there.
1
WizShorifa 2 days ago +1
I finished S2 of Mayfair Witch and was so much more hooked by the second season, I also didn't expect to like the Talamasca series as much I did definitely looking forward to this new series.
1
snarky-old-fart 1 day ago +1
What do you mean? Is this spin off or new name?
1
mielove 18 hr ago +1
This is season 3 of the Interview with the Vampire show, but since it's pivoting narrator (to cover the 2nd book in the series) it is changing the name to align with the 2nd book. But it will directly follow the events of season 2.
1
8__D 3 days ago +76
I really hope it's good. I loved Interview with the Vampire, but the other shows have been... Less than stellar. I'm assuming this is a new show in name only?
76
Big-Ambitions-8258 3 days ago +77
Correct. This is the same showrunners and team behind IWTV.  With Talamasca and Mayfair that was a completely different team
77
clycoman 3 days ago +20
Mayfair Witches was terrible. The writing and acting (especially Alexandria Daddario) was so bad.
20
Big-Ambitions-8258 3 days ago +3
I tried watching some of it but I was really disappointed.  I knew it had bad reviews but I try to give shows a chance bc I dont want to be one of those people who just parrot opinions without having watched the thing, but it felt like it was aiming for big moments without earning them. Spectacle over character/story
3
clycoman 2 days ago +5
The main character is supposed to be intelligent but she makes the stupidest decisions constantly. I gave up like 4 eps into the show.
5
Indigocell 2 days ago +4
The problem with writing intelligent characters is they can only ever be as smart as the writers, lol.
4
savage86lunacy 2 days ago +3
I could have watched five seasons of Talamsca if William Fichtner was the main character.

Fantastic show. Should be more competitive at the Emmys, but AMC's dropping the ball there. Also this looks like confirmation they're keeping the incest from the book, lol

LB3PTMAN 3 days ago +40
Yeah Sam Reid not getting an acting nom for either season is a tragedy
40
TigerFisher_ 3 days ago +22
The entire cast really. Claudia and Malloy were amazing in season 2

He got a CCA nomination. Jacob was really the person most deserving out of the whole cast.

He was also great
2
spate42 3 days ago +15
Not really sure what AMC's excuse is, they don't really have a tent-pole series that they'd rather invest their money promoting for awards. Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson really should have gotten awards rec.
15
CrazFight 3 days ago +4
Incest and it’s not on Hbo..? Aight sign me up
4
Cantora 3 days ago -8
There was no incest in the book. Just what some people considered "incestuous undertones". I felt at the time I read the book that anyone who thought that just missed the point entirely or didn't follow all the books to appreciate the change.
-8
MichaelMyersEatsDogs 3 days ago +9
lol what? There is absolutely some mother and son incest
9
Cantora 2 days ago -2
There is no sexual relationship. The idea of trying to retrofit human norms over the top of non human entities is just so silly and narrow minded imo. The whole concept of ricean vampirism completely removes these notions.
-2
monsieurxander 2 days ago +7
They literally make out, with tongue. They drink each other's blood, the vampire equivalent of sex. He calls her his lover and paramour. And that's not incest because they don't have missionary? Come on, man.
7
MichaelMyersEatsDogs 2 days ago +7
I mean you can say the same thing about Louis and Lestat as well. They never technically have any sexual relationship in the book as well
7
GenericMacAndCheese 3 days ago +43
I haven't seen any of this universe but seeing that Eric Bogosian plays the "interviewer" is just perfect casting and now I have to watch.
43

He is great, and I think you’ll find Lestat was perfect casting as well.
26
Infamous-Lab-8136 2 days ago +8

Huge fan of the books, love this show it’s casted superbly. I always thought Tom cruise embodied Lestat very well in the movie but Sam Reid becomes him in this. Can’t wait
35
Burton_trout 3 days ago +17
I never thought they'd be able to find an actor that embodies Lestat & thought Tom Cruise did ok but was still just Tom Cruise in a wig, then they cast Sam Reid, absolutely perfect. Exactly how I imagined he'd be in live action. Both charming & utterly terrifying when it calls for it.
17
rabid_J 3 days ago +20
Looks like he's really earning the "brat prince" moniker here.
20
uwotmVIII 3 days ago +20
I thought a TV adaptation of a book that was already adapted into a film (not to mention, a film starring Brad Pitt *and* Tom Cruise in the leading roles) was destined to be a mess. I wrote off the Interview with the Vampire series until recently because the initial marketing made it seem like the worst kind of corny. I finally gave it a shot out of curiosity after seeing some promo material for this new season/spin-off. Ended up watching both seasons last weekend. I was totally hooked. The acting and writing are *so good*. It’s epically over-the-top but in all the right ways. Really hoping this builds on that trend.

keving87 3 days ago +5
saying it premieres feels like they're treating it as a spinoff, but otherwise AMC, apart from their website, keeps saying it returns implying it's a new season instead of a new series. Not sure why they are so confusing about it sometimes lol
5
jor1ss 3 days ago +8
Maybe they're hoping to attract new viewers by calling it season 1?
8
keving87 3 days ago +3
I mean, it should be season 1 of a TVL spinoff because IWTV finished and now they're on to a different book and IWTV isn't the universe the franchise is calling itself, so it'd make sense for each book to be it's own limited or minsieries... but it was renewed as season 3, probably to keep the crew employed and not have to renegotiate any actor contracts, and then they changed the title, but kept calling it season 3, but now maybe it's season 1? It's just confusing for no reason lol
3

The tone of the trailer isn't very good imo... If the previous 2 seasons are anything to go by, the tone of the actual show should be a lot better.
-19
corkysoxx 3 days ago +18
The trailer hits the tone of book. Interview has a completely different tone as its Louis version of the story. Lestat is so dramatic and theatrical of course the tone of his version of the story will feel different. This is the better book as well.
18
Massive_Weiner 3 days ago +14
People shocked that Lestat is a melodramatic rockstar, lol. Have they seen him do *anything* on screen for 5 minutes?
14
MichaelMyersEatsDogs 3 days ago +5
He’s literally called the Brat prince. He was the original brat.
5
boomosaur 2 days ago -2
It seems more like a reading comprehension thing... maybe people reading the books now read it through a modern lens that is usually more narcissistic in nature so they see it as far more over the top than it actually was in the time that it was written. There's also a common problem in the past 1.5 decades where people don't actually read words for what they mean anymore, they just project the meaning their brain wanted to be written there.
-2
Mmkrw 3 days ago -2
That's not really true, though. The tone of the first two seasons is actually much closer to what the book The Vampire Lestat feels like (as opposed to much more somber tone of Interview with the Vampire novel). There's a tonal shift between the books, but nowhere as extreme as this trailer. Since they updated a lot of things in this adaptation, maybe they felt like they needed to push it even further. Personally, I'm not feeling it, but maybe it'll work better in the context of the whole season.
-2
boomosaur 3 days ago -4
Nah the trailer doesn't really hit the tone of the book... it hits the tone of the book if it was written by a tiktok influencer.
