No maybe about it, although Russia attacking Ukraine made it abundantly clear across the globe that if you don’t have nuclear weapons then you do not have sovereignty. Without nuclear weapons a nation is helpless from being subjugated by a nuclear power.

I blame all of this on Einstein who helped in creating nuclear weapons :D

Einstein was not involved in the Manhattan project in any way. His research was used, that's about it.

Ukraine gives up nukes, gets invaded. Libya gives up nuclear program, gets regime changed. Iran agrees to nuclear deal, then gets repeatedly attacked to include killing its top leaders. North Korea builds nukes, gets to write ‘love letters’ to the President. Pakistan and India build nukes…America, China, and Russia compete for trade deals and sell them weapons. Israel builds nukes and gets to be a rogue state, annex territory, and commit genocide with no repercussion. What lesson do you think has been taught to governments around the world who currently lack nuclear weapons?

Proliferation isn’t just so called ‘axis’ countries. It’s countries like Germany, Poland, Japan etc determining that they need nukes for their own self-preservation. Hell, a nuclear Canada doesn’t seem as far fetched as it once did.

From Bloomberg News reporters Peter Martin, Jonathan Tirone, and Gerry Doyle Donald Trump’s willingness to attack adversaries while rattling allies is threatening to push the world into a new nuclear age. From the North Atlantic to the West Pacific, governments are debating more publicly than before whether they, too, must get the bomb. Germany and Poland, who have long been satisfied to sit under the US nuclear umbrella, have in the wake of Trump’s musings about taking Greenland welcomed French overtures about extending the country’s own strategic deterrent across the continent. China and Russia, both longstanding members of the exclusive club of nuclear-armed nations, have raised alarm about the risk of weapons proliferation in Japan and South Korea, even as they upgrade their own arsenals. The US, the only country to use a nuclear weapon against a civilian population, is assessing a return to atomic bomb tests to comply with an executive order by Trump after a hiatus of more than three decades. These weapons should arrive just in time for them to be useful to AI super intelligence. Yay.

>AI super intelligence Good thing that isn't even close to being a reality. Targets being chosen and hit by LLM slop is much more real and frightening

Not too mention all the mistakes LLM’s are prone to making.

When we all die, may it be in the arms of a loved one. I shall not fear the end of the world, because I do not wish, nor start it.. I simply live day by day and cherrish life.

They are debating it but nukes have been utterly useless defense mechanism. India and Pakistan have nukes and have had conflicts between them. Israel has it and hasn't change it's conventional wars. European countries have a lot of nukes that is own by Nato and yet they have a war in Europe. Russia has it and it has not used it and it is at war. Soviet Union had a lot of nukes and yet it broke apart. What happens when the nuke owning countries have a war at their borders. Are they going to throw nukes at it? unlikely unless they are crazy and some may be but not Nato countries at least in theory.. It is a waste of money and it can backfire when a crazy goon has access to the button.
