So hard to separate Max and Schmidt. I've seen him in Man on the Inside and The Neighborhood and both times i just see Schmidt.

Intrepid_Tell_2726 Mar 17, 2026 +297
The White Lotus is actually the perfect place for him though. Mike White writes exactly the kind of unhinged, high-maintenance character that Schmidt would be if he had a billion dollars and a spiritual crisis in Thailand

sloBrodanChillosevic Mar 17, 2026 +103
I was gonna say, Schmidt's character is practically written for the White Lotus already
103
RDiMaso Mar 18, 2026 +10
If he doesn't call someone a dirty old b****, I'll be disappointed.

whichwitch9 Mar 17, 2026 +74
He was honestly good on Veronica Mars, which is what I first remember him as.
74
FtWorthHorn Mar 17, 2026 +24
I’m rewatching now and the number of great actors who just pop in is incredible. Had an Armie Hammer jump scare moment (didn’t eat anyone!).
24
clycoman Mar 17, 2026 +26
Veronica Mars had a lot of actors who later became pretty famous.  S1 was all about solving the murder mystery of Amanda Seyfried's character. Other guest stars: Tessa Thompson, Krysten Ritter Jessica Chastain, Leighton Meester.
26
AlsoIHaveAGroupon Mar 17, 2026 +16
Aaron Paul, Adam Scott, Valorie Curry, Taylor Sheridan, Dianna Agron, Jamie Chung
16
FtWorthHorn Mar 17, 2026 +7
Yeah, I remember the big ones like Seyfried and Max Greenfield. It’s the one-ep guests like Hammer, Paul, and Agron I had totally forgotten about.
7
clycoman Mar 17, 2026 +3
I totally forgot Taylor Sheridan was played a dirtbag criminal in Veronica Mars. Clip I just found of him in VM: https://youtu.be/KjmFvPbZNC8?si=x8itWzNjBB9zsO1H

He’ll always be deputy Leo to me.
10
firesticks Mar 17, 2026 +7
Yes, Deputy Leo remains my association!
7
gtjacket231 Mar 17, 2026 +182
Idk, I can see the separation. I do think they tend to typecast him as kind of a douchey yet somewhat lovable guy. I'm curious if it'll be different here, especially if he has a "meaty" recurring role like Sam Rockwell.
182
Darmok47 Mar 17, 2026 +88
He'll always be one of the douchey real estate guys in The Big Short to me.
88
angrytortilla Mar 17, 2026 +29
Seeing them at the job fair near the end was a nice treat. He'll be great in White Lotus.
29
marmaduke-treblecock Mar 17, 2026 +17
I don’t get it. Why are they confessing? They’re not confessing. They’re *bragging.*

Watch Promising Young Woman and you'll be cured of that.
94
Disastrous_Wing7084 Mar 17, 2026 +53
Disagree, watch him say ">!why is the f****** stripper dead? How'd this happen?!<" and tell me that doesn't sound exactly like Schmidt berating Nick for a minor mishap
53
ffordedor Mar 17, 2026 +23
F****** cracked up imagining him saying that to Nick
23
SnappyTofu Mar 17, 2026 +7
I think that’s completely intentional. The casting of that movie is so purposeful and brilliant.
7
ctwalkup Mar 17, 2026 +67
Was about to say this. The whole movie was based around casting guys with good reputations/harmless-feeling vibes as scary douchebags. Cool premise and my favorite of Fennell's movies.
67
rizgutgak Mar 17, 2026 +28
I also love how the women the cast, Alison Brie and Connie Britton were known for playing really innocent, sweet, kind characters and they turned out to be anything but
28
notches123 Mar 17, 2026 +6
Alison Brie's character is GLOW was kind of shitty but she was more complicated than good or bad. Definitely a shitty friend at the start of the series.
6
rizgutgak Mar 17, 2026 +3
Oh definitely! I was more referring to their most well known roles. Alison in Community and Connie in Friday Night Lights
3
ctwalkup Mar 17, 2026 +2
Very true!
2
Old-Way-5529 Mar 17, 2026 +3
tbf, his role there is basically schmidt, if he never moved into the loft and let his friends influence him to being a good person.
3
KryptonicxJesus Mar 17, 2026 +6
Kept being friends with Benjamin
6
peppermint_nightmare Mar 17, 2026 +3
I did watch it, all I could think of was "evil frat bro Schmidt", like if there was an evil universe for new girl characters.
3
zwck Mar 17, 2026 +16
We build this Schmidty
16
angrytortilla Mar 17, 2026 +3
On tootsie rollllss
3
JayAreEss Mar 17, 2026 +14
Hell, even his small part in The Big Short is just “Schmidt but rich”
14
SuspiciouslyEvil Mar 17, 2026 +14
For years he was just that cute cop from Veronica Mars.
14
TheSecondEikonOfFire Mar 17, 2026 +18
It’s only a single episode, but he’s pretty decent in an episode of Happy Endings. He’s plays a more normal type of character, so it’s very un-Schmidt
18
Couldnotbehelpd Mar 17, 2026 +11
That was pre-new girl, so it’s a bit different.
11
TheSecondEikonOfFire Mar 17, 2026 +4
It would have been after New Girl already started though. Damon left New Girl after the first episode because of Happy Endings, and Max was in an episode of season 1. Granted we don’t know _when_ the episodes were all filmed, but at the very least it would have been concurrent with season 1 of New Girl
4
trycuriouscat Mar 17, 2026 +3
Happy Endings - "You've Got Male" - aired May 11, 2011 New Girl - Pilot - aired September 20, 2011 While I can't say for sure when the New Girl pilot was filmed, it seems likely it was after Max's episode of Happy Endings was filmed.
3
Give_Me_Your_Pierogi Mar 17, 2026 +4
Still annoyed that that show got cancelled
4
Old-Pain-6638 Mar 17, 2026 +5
Every time he walks into the hotel lobby, I’m going to be subconsciously waiting for him to shout 'TYPICAL!' at the concierge. The crossover we didn't ask for but absolutely deserve
5
quaranTV Mar 17, 2026 +4
Honestly he pops up in SO many movies and TV shows I feel like he’s always great and different in everything he does. But I’ve only seen a few seasons of New Girl.
4
hanhanbanan Mar 17, 2026 +6
He’s very different in the season of American Crime Story about Versace’s murder!
6
myassholealt Mar 17, 2026 +3
It's cause he kind of carries the same body quirks and line delivery style across the characters. Which works for comedies. If this role is more serious, it'll be an opportunity to branch outside of that box.
3
fweafwe Mar 17, 2026 +3
To be fair, in Man on the Inside he basically is playing Schmidt.
3
AntillesWedgie Mar 17, 2026 +2
I’ve got a good feeling that his performance will smack the Schimdt out of you. Whenever I see him I just want Nick to show up. I think it shows how good he was that at first I would eye roll at Schmidt, and then I started to genuinely like him. Him and the writers did good work.
2
Throwawayjermu Mar 17, 2026 +2
When I watched the Big Short all I could see was Schmidt.
2
I-Have-Mono Mar 17, 2026 +2
No actor wants to hear that.
2
herewego199209 Mar 17, 2026 +371
Max Greenfield coming off of two shows back to back that ran for a long ass time and got double syndicated on network TV which is almost unheard of in this day and age. Dude hs be one of the most under the radar loaded actors in the business. I imagine now he's just taking roles that interest him much like Jim Parsons is doing with theatre, etc.
371
styln55 Mar 17, 2026 +157
Just looked it up out of curiosity and it's wild to me he will have done more episodes of the neighborhood than he did on new girl
157
notches123 Mar 17, 2026 +48
The Neighborhood is mostly multicam which cuts way back on cost per episode. So, they were going for volume with that one.
48
RegulatoryCapture Mar 17, 2026 +21
Beth Behrs too. A few random one-off credits and then BOOM two straight 130+ episode sitcoms. I don't know that it is quite as meaningful these days (nor as rewarding to the pocketbook), but it is still impressive.
21
champion_dave Mar 17, 2026 +11
He’s just so, so good. He elevates everything he’s in, even as the douchey mortgage broker in The Big Short
11
callahan09 Mar 17, 2026 +14
What does double syndicated mean?
14
CrossoverEpisodeMeme Mar 17, 2026 +59
Very generally, it refers to 2 of his shows getting 100+ episodes, though I believe syndication models have changed. New Girl and The Neighborhood both got 7+ seasons. Dude has 15 years on network sitcoms by the age of 46. Baller.
59
ObiBenShinobi Mar 17, 2026 +48
Just so OP understands... syndicated does not mean when a show hits 100+ episodes. It's when a network can sell those series to other media outlets which brings in residuals for the actors. Shows can be syndicated even if they don't have 100 episodes, but shows that have 100 episodes won't necessarily be syndicated.
48
CelestialFury Mar 17, 2026 +5
Indeed. One of the more famous examples is Star Trek: The Next Generation that went first-run syndication immediately upon launching the series. TNG made an absolute fortune for Paramount (still does today).
5
Courwes Mar 17, 2026 +3
Shows going into syndication usually starts at 80 episodes. That’s about how many you need before other outlets deem it worthy to purchase. As you said though there’s really no hard amount (plenty have had less and still gone into syndication). But in the old days shows would aim for at least 80 because it was almost guaranteed a second network would purchase to show reruns.
3
ObiBenShinobi Mar 17, 2026 +9
Guess my main point, so that OP wasn't confused, was that syndication doesn't mean when a show hits a certain number of episodes, it's when that show is sold or licensed to other outlets and additional revenue is earned through reruns.
9
kloiberin_time Mar 17, 2026 +18
Two shows in syndication. He's getting residuals for two sitcoms. It's basically like 2 retirements. Not every show goes on long enough to hit syndication, so being in 2 is rare.
18
callahan09 Mar 17, 2026 +3
Oooh I see, I definitely misread it initially. Thought they was saying he was in two shows that were each double syndicated, and wasn't sure what that meant haha.
3
theodo Mar 17, 2026 +6
Syndication is when a show has enough episodes that they can then sell it as a package of reruns for another network, so those are where the GIANT money from network shows comes from.
6
Chataboutgames Mar 17, 2026 +6
That mainstream sitcom money just kicks the shit out prestige pay.
6
Mentoman72 Mar 17, 2026 +3
He’s also currently one the main voices on Long Story Short (which is great btw)

DjKennedy92 Mar 17, 2026 +558
Chloe Bennett in white lotus? I’m here for it
558
whichwitch9 Mar 17, 2026 +114
She hasn't hit with anything notable since agents, so nice to see her name. She was pretty good in agents of shield, so weird to see her disappear after Edit: went down a rabbit hole. Briefly dated Logan Paul. That explains a bit of maybe people distancing from her. Also seems like from the comments he made, very much an "i can fix him" relationship. No girl, you couldn't
114
NoNefariousness2144 Mar 17, 2026 +53
Plus she got stuck with that awful Powerpuff Girls reboot which got cancelled.
53
Flimsy_Big7991 Mar 17, 2026 +10
[Actually she managed to get out of it after shooting the first pilot](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/powerpuff-girls-reboot-show-loses-blossom-actor-chloe-bennet/1100-6495068/)
10
PhanThief95 Mar 17, 2026 +29
I mean, she was in Dave & Interior Chinatown which had positive reception.
29
GoTron88 Mar 17, 2026 +12
Yeah I really enjoyed Interior Chinatown and Bennett's performance was one of the main reasons why.
12
SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS Mar 17, 2026 +2
Ask me how I know you haven't watched Interior Chinatown
2
tomtomvissers Mar 17, 2026 +192
Hell yea I thought her carreer would blow up after Agents of SHIELD but I haven't seen her since
192
PunningLynguist Mar 17, 2026 +124
She's great in Dave and Interior Chinatown She's gonna kill it on White Lotus
124
tomtomvissers Mar 17, 2026 +15
Oh right I did see her in Dave!
15
Taurnil91 Mar 17, 2026 +14
"She's gonna kill it" uh oh... is that foreshadowing on the death?
14
Underwater_Grilling Mar 17, 2026 +23
Interior Chinatown was awesome
23
Upbeat_Tension_8077 Mar 17, 2026 +9
I'm thinking that she could easily play a great down to earth character (similar to her role in Dave) out of all the tourists, but I'd be very interested to see if she could actually switch into a good hateable one
9
NoNefariousness2144 Mar 17, 2026 +55
I think in a weird way, SHIELD lasting for seven seasons may have slightly hurt the long-term careers of the stars, because they kept doing more seasons of SHIELD instead of moving over to other shows at their peak of popularity. The whole cast was amazing but it feels like you barely see them in anything.
55
ImmortalMoron3 Mar 17, 2026 +48
You do kind of see this with other shows. Like for example, the biggest stars to come out of Game of Thrones were people who were on the show for a little bit and then moved on to other things. Pedro Pascal is bigger than any of the main characters today and I think the same will be true with Milly Alcock and HOTD.
48
Techwield Mar 17, 2026 +5
Didn't work that well for the dude that played Dario. Well at least he got to be a Marvel villain
5
PhanThief95 Mar 17, 2026 +28
Some of the cast members have been thriving since being off Agents of SHIELD. Ming-Na Wen who played Melinda May was in 2 Star Wars projects: The Mandalorian & The Book of Boba Fett where she played Fennec Shand. She’s also going to be in the upcoming third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians where she will be playing Hera. Jeff Ward who played Deke Shaw not only wrote a theatrical play that starred Aubrey Plaza but he’s also in the live action adaptation of One Piece where he plays Buggy, a fan favorite villain. He even appeared in Season 2 which came out last week. Gabriel Luna who played Robbie Reyes aka Ghost Rider was also in Terminator Dark Fate & The Last of Us where he played Joel’s brother Tommy. There’s also Kyle McLachlan who played Daisy’s dad Cal who not only returned to Twin Peaks but he was one of the main cast members of Fallout. There’s also Dichen Lachman who played Daisy’s mom Jiaying who has been thriving starring in shows like Altered Carbon & Severance, & is rumored to be in the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie.
28
iamnotimportant Mar 17, 2026 +22
> Kyle McLachlan man had one heck of a career in the 90s though, and was known for dating big time models mostly as well
22
NoNefariousness2144 Mar 17, 2026 +19
Yeah some have done well, it’s awesome seeing Jeff in One Piece. And Ming has been a legend since Mulan.
19
MandolinMagi Mar 17, 2026 +4
> was also in Terminator Dark Fate IMO that's a negative, the Terminator franchise has always seemed to be to be career suicide for everyone other than Arnold. Lind Hamilton hasn't done anything worth mentioning since T2, Edward Furlog developed a drug problem and was shuffled off to direct-to-DVD purgatory. Robert Patrick has become TV's Generic Government Agent In Charge #3. Nick Stahl has never got a single role you'd actually remember. On the TV show, Lena Heady was admittedly on GoT, but then so was everyone else. Summer Glau is herself franchise poison for some reason, and Thomas Decker has stayed busy with minor roles.
4
PhanThief95 Mar 17, 2026 +6
You do know that I also said Gabriel Luna was in The Last of Us, right? Also, Linda Hamilton was most recently in the final season of Stranger Things. Christian Bale was also in one of the worst Terminator movies & his career is thriving.
6
Gnorris Mar 18, 2026 +2
Robert Patrick has done well since what was nearly a one-note career, particularly as he’s aged into “ornery dad” roles.
2
magikarpcatcher Mar 17, 2026 +14
Marvel should have introduced her in the MCU ages ago. They did Quake dirty
14
steeb2er Mar 17, 2026 +6
She was in the (better than it had any right to be) Jonas Brothers Christmas movie that came out a few months ago on D+.
6
Real-Stuff6829 Mar 19, 2026 +2
I definitely enjoyed it more than i should have lol
2
inaripotpi Mar 17, 2026 +5
She was in Dave. Not really a fan of her though. Nonessential C-tier TV actor and tries too hard to be an ambassador for Asian in the industry when she's a nepo baby and dated Logan Paul of all people
5
Oen386 Mar 17, 2026 +25
>tries too hard to be an ambassador for Asian in the industry when she's a nepo baby and dated Logan Paul of all people I have no idea why you were downvoted. Part of why she didn't take off seemed to be tied to the people she associated with. She dated Logan Paul before and *after* his controversy in Japan going to the Suicide Forest and filming a person that had killed themself. He has said particularly terrible things about Asian people, dehumanizing them for "shock and awe". Yet she stuck with him for clout until almost a year *after* the forest incident. Yet, she wants to brand herself as an advocate for Asian people. It makes it hard to take that position seriously.
25
Mattyzooks Mar 17, 2026 +14
Her parents (and extended family) aren't in the entertainment industry and they called her a nepobaby (and later doubled down on it). Nepobaby just seems to be increasingly used for uninteresting hateful people to use as an extra reason to dunk on people. It's frankly tiresome and indicative of a generation addicted to being angry at people needed to generate excuses why. This person is calling her a nepobaby actress because her parents were a banker and a doctor. That strikes me as an unserious argument made by someone reaching for reasons to pile on. But I do agree the Logan Paul shit was troubling and her association with him didn't do her any favors, imo.
14
inaripotpi Mar 17, 2026 +5
Guess it stings for people to hear who have had her as their yellow fever darling since AoS
5
ChanceVance Mar 18, 2026 +2
Well if it makes anyone feel better, it clearly hasn't done much for her. Stephanie Hsu, Manny Jacinto and the whole cast of Demon Hunters, to name a few, are going places who are actually proud of their heritage as opposed to Chloe's faux pride.
2
Lint6 Mar 17, 2026 +13
> when she's a nepo baby Her dads a banker and her moms a doctor
13
bananaslug178 Mar 17, 2026 +3
Interesting that she is trying to be an ambassador for us now after deliberately changing her last name from Wang to Bennet and whitewashing herself.
3
IStillLikeBeers Mar 17, 2026 +6
I have a hard time criticizing that decision. It's unfortunate that Hollywood is that way, but *so many* actors need to change their name so it's not "ethnic". It's not whitewashing; it's self-preservation so you aren't written off or typecast before you even step in the room. Krishna Bhanji -> Ben Kingsley Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz -> Jon Stewart Kalpen Suresh Modi -> Kal Penn Ramón Gerard Antonio Estévez -> Martin Sheen Jerome Silberman -> Gene Wilder
6
inaripotpi Mar 17, 2026 +2
Yeah, pretty off-putting acting like she had such a hard time while she was backed by her dad's payroll and dating the most hated guy online for doing something utterly disrespectful to Asians
2
Subject_Survey_2946 Mar 17, 2026 +54
It’s been so long since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., she really deserves a high-profile HBO win. Plus, seeing Quake trade in superpowers for rich-people-meltdowns is going to be top tier television
54
Perfect-Currency6436 Mar 17, 2026 +12
I just hope they don't waste her. The White Lotus cast is getting crowded, and with Kumail and Max Greenfield there, she's going to need a really sharp, biting script to stand out from the comedy heavyweights.
12

Kumail Nanjiani doesn’t seem to play characters as much as he seems to just play Kumail Nanjiani.
87
Explode-trip Mar 17, 2026 +27
I was going to make this exact same comment. Whenever I see him in any production, I just see... Kumail. I'm excited to see him on Taskmaster because he is a generally funny dude. Not really excited to see him on White Lotus because everytime he's on screen I'll be thinking "oh look, its Kumail."
27
goddamnitwhalen Mar 17, 2026 +26
I couldn’t stand his appearance in the most recent season of *Fallout*.
26
dtw48208 Mar 20, 2026 +2
I said to my partner, "Well, I guess we aren't going to finish the rest of the season now that he's in it." Then his character was killed. Rest of the season saved.

11
FreeEdmondDantes Mar 18, 2026 +5
He really gets on my nerves too. Like yeah, I get that he has to overcome racial discrimination in casting, so people seem to think that means you can't say anything bad about the guy, but he's just incredibly arrogant and obnoxious.
5
Dooms_Herald Mar 17, 2026 +9
TBF he did breakthrough for literally playing himself in a movie based on his lofe
9
tasbir49 Mar 17, 2026 +6
He did pretty well in Welcome to Chippendales

For better or worse if it works can't blame the guy, it gets him a ton of roles making bank even if it makes him feel over exposed. Feels similar to will arnett

I do not want range from Max Greenfield. I want Schmidt. Give me Schmidt on White Lotus.
29
Own_Citron6260 Mar 17, 2026 +10
Yeah just make it Schmidt. Not him playing someone like Schmidt. He’s on a business trip away from Cece.
10
Juunlar Mar 17, 2026 +3
Wait, you're a genius
3
myassholealt Mar 17, 2026 +33
Chloe Bennet! Finally she's in something new and hopefully her character lasts the whole season. I always thought she was great in Shield and wished she was in more stuff.
33
Emotional-Pirate9891 Mar 17, 2026 +2
It was disappointing how she didn't get any roles after that. When's season 4 getting released?
2
myassholealt Mar 17, 2026 +2
She was also in a Hulu series call Interior Chinatown, but it only got one season.

KhelbenB Mar 17, 2026 +21
It would be really interesting to see Max NOT play a giant douchebag (New Girl, The Big Short), but at this point I think he is just typecast and has to get used to it.

Check out Veronica Mars sometime.

iamnotimportant Mar 17, 2026 +4
it's now on netflix, been doing a rewatch, still holds up. some all time characters. Albeit if I could erase the last 5 minutes of S4 I think I would

veebs7 Mar 17, 2026 +10
I’d be shocked if his White Lotus character isn’t essentially a variation of his New Girl character. I just hope that doesn’t take me out of the show

CrossoverEpisodeMeme Mar 17, 2026 +6
It’s the same actor, I don’t know if it’s supposed to be the same person

I’m thinking that’s his role

Why does this thread have a hate boner for Kumail 😭
13
mochafiend Mar 17, 2026 +12
Seriously, I had no idea. I have been entirely meh on the casting news until now but now I'm officially in.
12
Lil_Quip Mar 18, 2026 +5
Because he has been over saturated with the parts of comedy persona people are sick of. kind of like Kevin Hart to much lesser scale.
5
antistupidsociety Mar 18, 2026 +4
Because he’s forced into everything these days and he’s obnoxious
4
ladeeedada Mar 17, 2026 +2
Overexposure like how ppl turned against Jennifer Lawrence, Zendaya and Pedro Pascal and others before them.
2
Gravijas Mar 17, 2026 +14
I don't think thats it. I love kumail, but no way he is overexposed like pedro pascal or timothy chamalet. reddit started hating him when he gained muscles for Marvel. Pretty sure it was around that time.
14
Worthyness Mar 17, 2026 +7
He jokes about that in his most recent stand up. He got a lot of shit for getting into shape and staying that way
7
N_thanAU Mar 18, 2026 +3
He gets shit because he turned his head into Quagmire and it’s hard to look at.
3
Underwater_Grilling Mar 17, 2026
He's just bad. The stuff he's on he's generally a terrible fit for or is just trash like the eternals. His HGH challah face combined with the constant DreamWorks eyebrow are difficult to look at viscerally. He isn't funny. He can't do a read. He can't emote. Unfunny comedic actor who can't act trying to be a leading man with a mug he jacked up on his own.

Chloe Bennet was one of the rudest celebs I had the displeasure of working with. She made a costumer on our movie cry.
19
bananaslug178 Mar 17, 2026 +19
She dated Logan Paul so this doesn't surprise me. And it was during the time he posted that horrible video in the Japanese forest.
19
iamacannibal Mar 17, 2026 +11
She also dated an MMA fighter named Brandon Schwaub. He is one of the dumbest people alive and a gigantic a******.
11
TheTruckWashChannel Mar 17, 2026 +8
Lmao no way, I didn't know about this. She's playing knucklehead r*******
8
nonsensestuff Mar 17, 2026 +6
lol it was the movie they met on that I worked with both of them. I had no clue who he was before that and he was as obnoxious as you’d imagine
6
Upbeat_Tension_8077 Mar 17, 2026 +5
I hope Kumail is going to be unhinged to the max here, almost feeling like a male Tanya type of character

3 great adds. I may be more excited for the cast this season than any other.

Ghost132022 Mar 17, 2026 +3
I can’t stand Nanjiani. Bennet on the other hand….Fire!
3
frozen_pope Mar 17, 2026 +8
I used to love Kumail, but his schtick is steadily getting less and less funny.
8
real_picklejuice Mar 17, 2026 +4
I'm hesitant about Nanjiani. He often plays himself in pretty much anything he's in.

MalIntenet Mar 17, 2026 +11
What is their long term plan for this show and how long can they keep it up I wonder? Haven’t gotten around to S3 yet, can anyone confirm it’s as good as the first 2 seasons?
11
OllieSchniederjans Mar 17, 2026 +17
3 is the worst (only by comparison) and it was still entertaining throughout.
17
LucrativeLurker Mar 17, 2026 +50
I’m not sure this is the consensus, but for me S3 was the first to not stick the landing. The finale kinda brings down the season, but it was still a great ride before the ending. Season 3 is definitely worth the watch though. It has a couple scenes that I consider standout moments for the entire show, even if it is a lesser season in full.

It's an anthology series with a premise of privileged people + people looking for an escape from their life in an advertised paradise + the realities of the workers whose job is to create that illusion of paradise. It's limitless source for storytelling if the writing is good enough. Universal themes like this just require well done character stories to make it compelling, entertaining, or even relatable to the audience. So I think they can keep it up for as long as HBO is willing to renew it. It all boils down to how good the writing team is.

RegulatoryCapture Mar 17, 2026 +7
I'm still mad Mike White doesn't like the cold and won't do a ski season in the Alps. After S3, I think that kind of changeup is what the show needs. Rich people don't just vacation on the beach. Go explore a slightly different group of rich travelers who want their luxury with a side of adrenaline. I think you could easily work in a white lotus-style theme around people who are searching for a thrill (along the lines of the prior money/power, sex/desire, death/spirituality seasons).

Plus the fact each season visits a different venue allows for a fresh coat of paint that keeps it interesting and unique.  They still have so many locations to go to for great seasons: Japan/Korea, South America, the Nordic countries, Australia, Egypt/Jordan.  Obviously the important bit is a good story and good characters, but the locale can definitely spark creativity for that.

yolandachill Mar 17, 2026 +26
It’s pretty solid, it got an even larger amount of general population watching than the second season so they cried about nothing happening and made stupid theories that don’t go with the general character study the show really is and the ending sas a bit lackluster compared to the previous 2 but it was fun.
26
Rayeon-XXX Mar 17, 2026 +13
I liked three but the ending definitely had pacing issues.

Chataboutgames Mar 17, 2026 +6
In fairness, the stupid theories have always been there. If you ever feel you've seen the depths of bad media literacy, I challenge you to head over to the discussion The White Lotus sub. I swear it's like a social experiment where they're forcing people who got Clockwork Orange-d on Bravo reality shows to watch scripted television for the first time.

CrossoverEpisodeMeme Mar 17, 2026 +3
>I swear it's like a social experiment where they're forcing people who got Clockwork Orange-d on Bravo reality shows to watch scripted television for the first time. This might be the most eloquent way I've ever seen it put, thank you. The Euphoria subreddit suffered from the same problem. Some of the comment chains wouldn't look out of place for a CW show. I get that everyone watches and interprets shows differently, and I never would have thought there was a "wrong" way to watch TV (besides the ultimate offender: scrolling a second screen while watching), but I started to question if maybe we were watching different shows lol
3
FireflyNitro Mar 17, 2026 +7
I really liked it. I think it got a bad rap for some reason online but I thought it was fun. If you’ve left it this long since season 2 I think you’ll enjoy it since I guess if I had any complaint at all it *is* sort of “more of the same”.

NiceTrySuckaz Mar 17, 2026 +3
I believe Mike White is hoping to do seven seasons, one on each continent. Or maybe it was six, excluding Antarctica. I know I read he was hoping to get approved for one on each continent though.
3
Dabbooo Mar 17, 2026 +2
Don't know about that. S4 will take place on the french rivieira, so they are returning to Europe instead of going to Africa or Oceania. (or America if you count Hawaii as oceanian) [This is the hotel where it will be filmed](https://airelles.com/fr/destination/chateau-de-la-messardiere-hotel)

Iv never asked for a shows 5 year plan before I continue watching it.  Just watch it or don’t

Love stumbling onto a gem late, binge watching all availabe seasons in a few weeks, then turning around shortly after and hearing news that there's a new season greenlit 💚

theodo Mar 17, 2026 +4
This seasons cast wasnt really interesting me, but I like Bennet, Greenfield, and Nanjiani enough + the existing cast to check it out now. This tipped the scale

Do they have to have a nepo baby every season?
2
XuX24 Mar 17, 2026 +1
I feel like white lotus needs like a stand up comedian that acts. I know kumail has done it but someone more stand up than actor would be cool
1
Worried-Word-2873 Mar 17, 2026 +1
The cast is getting less appealing. Ugh
