I’m reaallllly curious to see how the composing goes for the new season. Losing Cristobal Tapia de Veer is a big hit to the ethos of the show, hope they were able to find someone comparable.

He says in the comments of the extended version upload though that the 1m45w standard version was what he made knowing it’s the main theme. He just wanted to have a chance to use the full album length one as a climax at the end of the season but HBO stuck to the theme remaining consistent. I love both versions!

The conversations around that show remind me why I hate weekly releases so much. I like to be able to watch things without having brain-dead social media takes* influencing mine and everyone else's perspective.
People say they love the water cooler conversations between episodes but I think, in the internet age, it just creates groupthink.

The internet hive mind has been primed to hate Euphoria season 3 after The Idol and the creative partners Sam Levinson has parted ways with.
I can’t imagine watching that first episode and thinking “this is one of the worst shows on TV”. From a craft perspective, it’s still one of the best. And where the season will go from here is anyone’s guess.

Maybe this was just my unfortunate experience from the last season, but it seems like a lot of watchers on this site felt *too much* focus was put on the staff as opposed to the guests. Many very unhappy comments about the Mook and Gaitok storylines, which I actually liked, and random complaints about Natasha Rothwell's returning character Belinda.
To be fair, there were a lot of ridiculous complaints in general for a show that's an easy 8/10, so grain of salt and all that. And a lot of stupid and completely embarrassing complaints about the first 2 seasons help serve as a good reminder that everyone has access to HBO in the 2020s.
9
grandrambleApr 15, 2026
+9
I think Belinda got a short stick in that she's an understated character in a mostly understated story, but intercut with some of the most chaotic personalities and cartoony plots they've had yet in the other arcs. It would've fit a lot better in s1 when everything was more grounded and slice-of-life tone, but instead her and the other staff's side plots ended up feeling like padding in between the real drama.

Season 3 was just Timothy zonked on lorazepam, his brilliant acting skills being completely unutilized lmao there was no satisfying payoff for the Ratliff storyline at all and the ‘reveal’ at the end with the resort owner being his father and the Russians robbing the resort everyone saw coming before the halfway point. Easily season one for me. I finally binged all seasons for the first time a couple months ago and my take away was surprise that season 2 is the season I see most lauded here.
Two lacked a lot and absolutely jumped the shark with that ridiculous gay murder cabal. Not to mention her falling off the boat when she was standing right next to the stairs down. Gratuitous nudity that added nothing and every groups individual plots failed coalesce in the finale. It was just 3 separate stories happening at once that had no payoff. We also completely lost the music as a character.
In one, every character’s choices and actions slow burned into the chaos that was the climax. There was infinitely more cause and effect. The music was tense and unsettling and built the atmosphere into a thriller at times. I was always wondering what was going to happen next as events kept snowballing. I found one much funnier as well.

I've watched season 2 a few times now, and I just don't see the Jennifer Coolidge plot as a murder cabal. A bunch of gays want to get her to fund their free, fancy lifestyle, and they put so much effort into showing her a good time. Then Jennifer Coolidge gets scared and kills them all before falling off the boat on her way to a little dingy, hitting her head and drowning. The point is that we'll never know if they meant to kill her. It's honestly so much funnier to me that we know nothing for sure.

> It felt like she needed to give her best fight back, and that she, in a way, had some kind of victory over whoever was conspiring to get rid of her. So it just made me laugh to think she would take out this whole cabal of killers and that, after she's successfully done that, she just dies this derp-y death. It just felt like that's so Tanya.
That’s Mike White the creator confirming they were there to kill her. It’s set up the whole season. Gay Bilbo is in love with Greg and is going to murder her for part of the fortune Greg inherits. Leo Woodall essentially confirmed it to Portia as well when he kidnapped her.

He was pretty different in each season, too.
In the first season he was jovial and a bit happy-go-lucky, because he was trying to seduce Tanya (his target)
Second season he got her, they married, and he seems to have lost the thrill of the hunt. He seems annoyed all the time, and treats Tanya almost as a nuisance or even a liability. Later we learn he was just trying to tolerate her long enough to get the prize
Third season he's a stone cold m***********. He doesn't care. He's won and moved on. Completely different than his season 1 persona

Yeah I thought these were all good, but 8 episodes of him being cold and mean to Aimee Lou Woods character with no pay off, and inexplicably being this amazing mysterious hitman just felt completely out of place for the show. And then also no payoff for Jason Isaacs character, and Parker Posey just being repetitive every episode.
It just felt like Mike White lost interest in writing the show as it went along with these storylines. The Robbery one and the 3 women, the daughter and the sons stories, and the masseuse felt well done.

Loved season 1. It was so fresh and I enjoyed the fishbowl effect filming during Covid created. There was such a strong sense of place, I really felt like I was a fly on the wall in the resort every episode. There were no organized crime figures and the violence wasn’t over the top. The second season, for me, was okay. They moved a lot of the action outside of the resort and I didn’t feel nearly as immersed as I did in season 1. It also took a much darker turn with shady characters and a higher body count. I thought the third season was absolute shit. It hardly came off as a dark comedy, it was more of a drama. A slow, disjointed, but ultimately predictable drama. A waste of a truly amazing cast. I really hope they go back to season 1 style and vibes.

Didn't hate it but felt that it was less good than the first two. From memory a lot of the characters felt like they didn't really go anywhere from their introduction and were not really given much to do, and by far the most memorable scene came from a minor side character (sexuality monologue).
Between the three women whose dynamic you figured out instantly, gay tension between the siblings and Jason Issacs popping pills and pondering suicide all season you had like a third of the screentime tied up already.
9
ArgentoFoxApr 16, 2026
+4
I thought the third season was only decent. It ultimately went nowhere. There were a lot of interesting ideas teased like the tsunami dream and the poison seeds. I think the most interesting plot line involved Walter Goggins’s character.
This will probably be controversial, but the number of cast members has gotten out of control. The one family had five people to follow, then they had the three women, Walter Goggins and his girlfriend, the security guard and his love interest, Gary and his French girlfriend, Belinda and her son, the Russians, Sritala and her husband, Sam Rockwell’s character, Pornchai, etc. I think the cast has just swelled to too many characters to juggle and it’s a lot to ask for any showrunner/writer to give satisfactory closure or resolution to a cast this massive. Maybe over multiple seasons, but certainly not within a season.

I liked it more than two I think. Although so far in one and 2 the only people who died were people who brought it upon themselves with their own disfunction. I thought Aimee Lou Woods character dying was antithetical to the ethos of the show. Her only crime was loving someone who was broken.
Also Gaitock’s life is ruined as well and he was a pure and innocent character. Hes never going to forget shooting Rick in the back and winning the girl only because he killed someone.

I didn't hate it, but it had problems.
Like the three girlfriends storyline was compelling all season, until it fast-forwarded past any sort of conclusion. Carrie C*** just comes to a realization *off-screen* and monologues about it, and it speaks to her talent that she's able to sell something that's so unearned.
Then you've got Natasha Rothwell, whose character is weirdly less complex than back in Season 1, ultimately becoming a bystander in her own storyline.
And S3 revisits diet versions of all the hits:
-Poor little rich girl turns out to be just as bad as everyone else, except the stakes are lower and she's not as compelling.
-We get another shootout, except instead of being improbable and funny, it's just played straight. (This time with witnesses who forget about it immediately after.)
-Half the season builds up to yet another depiction of gay sex treated like a jump scare (to get the normies tittering on socials). This time with real incest, which is biting off way more than a show with this tone can chew, so it's largely side-stepped after.

I didn’t like the family hardly at all. The father only had the respect of his family due to wealth and just contemplated suicide or homicide because of illegal activity, the mother was just an entitled mess of a human being, the daughter was cosplaying as a Buddhist and was an enormous hypocrite (at least her mother was unapologetic about what she is), the one brother was a bro, and the other brother was just misguided and had identity issues. I love the show, but the whole, “Aren’t rich people miserable and dysfunctional?” can only go so far before it becomes predictable. I don’t see how most of the characters grew or evolved. The most interesting part would have been how the mother and the three children would have reacted to economic ruin and that was withheld from the audience.

I totally get it. The first two seasons had such quality acting, cinematography, direction, soundtrack, etc. that it was easy for me to overlook the characters that are essentially soulless black holes. This has been a really popular trope in media where it’s “rich people doing heinous things” but White Lotus does a better job of adding nuance to that because you get to see the other side from the workers’ perspective. The manager, the masseuse, etc. have to interact with these people and they essentially function as a stand in for the audience. I also appreciate how the creator (he’s also the sole writer) will take pot shots at anyone and everyone. It’s a caustic show and sometimes holding up a mirror to society gets really uncomfortable. So I get it.

And Mike White has been on Survivor 50. This guy clearly lives under a rock.
