>Then, days before Easter, she tried to draw a direct parallel between Christ and Trump, who has been found liable for sexual abuse, accused repeatedly of sexual misconduct, and was once close friends with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Maybe she has a different edition of the Bible than the rest of us.

Yeah, its the conservative representation of the bible. They believe jesus loves deporting people, starting wars and cutting cancer funding for children. Oh, and bombing schools.

She does; it's one of those Trump bibles. Costs 75$ and your soul. Wouldn't be shocked if there were some weird changes in the scripture either, to make Jesus and Trump seem more alike.

Well, there are thousands of translations, hundreds of versions, and different numbers of "books" in them. I'd say most people have different editions. They're just made up stories so there are going to be problems when people claim "their" version is the "right" version.

Anyone labeling themselves as a maga pastor is a liar and con. The amount of hate and vitriol that comes out that camp is antithetical to what the Bible teaches. Christians need to take back their religion from these people. Because currently it's defining them.

In Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus basically outlined who will get into heaven. >31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. >34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ >37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ >40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ >41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ >44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ >45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ MAGA's platform is exactly opposite the teachings of Jesus. If Satan were real, MAGA would be his greatest accomplishment.

This is why MAGA has started saying they’re “Old Testament Christians” because the NT is too woke for them. They just aren’t Christians by any definition of the word anymore. MAGA has formed an entirely new religion with no foundation while using Christian iconography. They’re hypocrites and blasphemers.

Jesus’ covenant is The New Testament and to believe in Jesus as savior one must believe TNT not the Old Testament. If that’s what they believe then they aren’t going to their beloved Heaven. If they do then Leviticus also says they can’t wear two or more textiles. MAGA shirts would be against the Bible. The bastardized religion is a plan by Seven Mountains and The Heritage Foundation to attain power in the US. It isn’t Christianity, but it is very dangerous for separation of church and state in the Constitution. America isn’t a white Christian country, but It’s still very much stuck in slavery and racism. JD Vance just published a book on his Catholic conversion that features a Methodist church on the cover because the bucolic photo is more appealing to the MAGA base. It’s all marketing, PR and lies and ignorant Americans fall for every lie.

Nope, the Bible is full of hate and vitriol. The few words of kindness are drowned out by bigotry, misogyny, and intolerance. Show me one fresh positive idea from the Bible that wasn’t already accepted as a good idea. Add in that this is a book of mythology and we really don’t need to hold it up as authoritative on anything.

Tell me you haven’t actually read the Bible, without telling me you haven’t read the Bible. I have, and not just once, many times, and your characterization is completely false. Jesus stood in stark contrast to the religious leaders in that he spent lots of time with tax collectors and prostitutes, the religious leaders hated that and thought the messiah would see how pious they were and reject the “sinners”, he taught about love, he taught about treating others the way you want to be treated (he said it was the second greatest commandment after loving God with all your heart). Just about every book of the New Testament exhorts believers to love, phrases like, “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing” or “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” There is nothing preventing anyone from claiming to be a Christian, but you can use that above verse and decide for yourself if someone’s claim is valid. If they don’t show love for one another, they aren’t.

StThragon Apr 2, 2026 +8
> Tell me you haven’t actually read the Bible, without telling me you haven’t read the Bible. I have, and not just once, many times, and your characterization is completely false. I have read the bible. Tell me, how did the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites do under the love of the Abrahamic god? Why did this same god get super pissed off when entire tribes were not wiped out at his command. So, when this same god hardened pharaoh's heart, doesn't that mean it was really god's fault all the first born Egyptians were murdered? I'm not going to go over all the Jewish laws, but there is one where the parents of a disobedient child may bring him to the elders to be stoned to death. Also, what can a husband to to his wife if he is jealous of her? Let's check Numbers 5:14-21 (KJV). 14 And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled: 15 Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance. 16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord: 17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water: 18 And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse: 19 And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse: 20 But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband: 21 Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The Lord make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the Lord doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell; 22 And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. 23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water: 24 And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter. 25 Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the Lord, and offer it upon the altar: 26 And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water. 27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. 28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed. 29 This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled; 30 Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law. 31 Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity. Jesus himself said that he was not here to abolish Jewish law in Matthew 5:17 so Jesus specifically does not disagree with these laws.

If you don’t believe God is real, then I can see how you would think the test of faithfulness was cruel, since you preclude God’s work. On the other hand, if you start with that premise, there is no point even considering the matter as you already have made a forgone conclusion
-6

Even if God were real and the woman was unfaithful it would still be cruel and excessive.

I have read it a few times and it’s absolutely a self contradicting hot mess of garbage. Jesus is both displayed as a violent psychopath and a loving pacifist. Christianity is just a choose your own adventure style religion. They all are, but Christianity for sure.
9
SickAndTiredOf2021 Apr 2, 2026 +7
Exactly. It’s almost as if…. all religion was created as a means to control people so they don’t question things. 1/3 of the bible, and the most popular portion was written by a genocidal government official. But yeah, I’m sure the book NEVER changed in 2k years.
7
m0nk_3y_gw Apr 2, 2026 +1
> Jesus is both displayed as a violent psychopath and a loving pacifist. eh, the story is he whipped some temple money changers and cursed a tree, right? Jesus body count: 0 Moses body count: 3000+ Muhammad: 300+
1
HighPriestofShiloh Apr 2, 2026 +2
Nope. I was thinking about the time where he said he is not to be mistaken as coming to bring peace but that instead he came to bring the sword/violence and divide families. Or maybe the part where he told his follower to abandoned their families. Yeah Jesus has some good quotes but overall he is kind of a bummer. But yeah him going around whipping people at the temple is crazy as well . Clearly that story never actually happened. But yeah if you just stick with the best parts Jesus is a swell guy I woood agree that Jesus is less psychopathic than Muhammad or Abraham. But they are all insane character that shoood be ignored. They don’t even make good fiction. Goku makes a better role model than Jesus.
2
rkcth Apr 2, 2026
What are you talking about? Jesus is portrayed as a violent psychopath? The only thing I can think of that you may be referring to is when he flipped the money changers tables over and chased them out with leather thong.
0
HighPriestofShiloh Apr 2, 2026 +4
I was thinking about the part where he tells his followers that is not here to bring peace but that he came to bring violence and divide families. But yeah the temple part is there too.
4
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +2
Why do you think that means violence? Jesus is a source of disagreement for many people, including you and I right now, but there is no violence.
2
HighPriestofShiloh Apr 2, 2026 +1
When Jesus said he came to bring violence and rip families apart and encourage husbands to abandoned their wives and kids, well I took him literally there. Again there is no consistent character named Jesus in the gospel. Some of the most inspiring and uplifting messages I have read are in the gospels, but that isn’t a consistent message.
1
rkcth Apr 2, 2026
It doesn’t say that though, it says: Luke 12:52-53 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” In the early church, non-believers were turning in their believing family members, who were then often executed. Why do you say violence, though, that’s not even in that verse? Where are you getting that from? There 100% is a consistent character in Jesus throughout the entire New Testament (and in fact in the old, he’s mentioned in alluded to in many places, including the fourth man in the fire come to protect Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego), but maybe you are misremembering some things and it’s causing you to see contradictions. Jesus says to Peter when he uses a sword to cut off another’s ear Matthew 26:52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” Jesus says “Matthew 5:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” he says if you are even angry at your brother, you are committing murder in your heart. He says to love your enemies and pray for them. He says to forgive your brother 70 times 7 times (when asked if he should forgive his brother 7 times). The message of the New Testament is extremely consistent. We are to treat people with love and kindness, and not just to those who can pay us back, but to everyone, even our enemies, even those who seek to harm us.

Matthew 10 is the violence reference.

...you're focusing on "half the bible"... the newer, softer, friendlier half. Now go read the Old Testament and its a lot more fire and brimstone and smiting and less love thy neighbor.
15
rgvtim Apr 2, 2026 +10
Its not even 1/2 its the first four books, the most important books by far, but unfortunately the whole text, not just the first fours books but the rest of the New Testament and all the Old, is considered "The Bible" And in the current modern body of Christ, there are many many many who use the Old Testament as the justification for a lot of un-christian things. Take a look at the shit Telerico gets for being a New Testiment, Gospel first Christian.
10
lixia Apr 2, 2026 +8
I was raised Catholic and we pretty much exclusively focused on the New Testament. The Old Testament was pretty much viewed as the backstory prior to the arrival of Jesus. (And the stories of the Jews) You can blame the institution(s) (I'm there with you), blame all the biggots using Christianity as a justification for hate (I'm also there with you), but I think you're misguided in thinking that the morals and values layed out by Jesus in yhr New Testament are bad/evil. Also as someone that came here from a different culture I see a wild difference how the bible is interpreted by Americans / English speakers versus latin-europeans.
8
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +7
I have, and the New Testament gives a lens with which to view it, if you read only the old testament, I can see how you might feel that way.
7
StThragon Apr 2, 2026 +4
Jesus specifically said he did not come to change Jewish law. Matthew 5:17. Old Testament still in play according to Jesus. Also, isn't it the same god in both testaments? Why does time give a pass for the horrific shit done in the older one?

What’s the entire quote? Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. He himself was able to fulfill all obligations under the law, where we could not.
-1
nerdgetsfriendly Apr 2, 2026 +3
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." He himself was able to fulfill all obligations under the law, where we could not. --- This just seems like silly word games... How exactly is that not just meaningless gobbledygook? If a law is fulfilled, but explicitly not abolished, what impact does it have on how the law still applies to everyone else? The common sense answer is that it has zero impact, unless you're go down the rabbit hole attempting some whacky convoluted technical interpretation of "fulfill". I cannot respect an answer that, rather than providing clarification, seems like an obvious case of weaselly equivocation—an ambiguous answer so that it can be reinterpreted either way in the future, whenever back-and-forth on a case-by-case basis. It'd be a terrible response for actually providing principled and consistent guidance, but it's an effective device for weeding out critical thinkers and a useful tool for manipulating the remaining folk. Hmmmmmm...
3
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 -1
I can only explain it to you, I can’t understand it for you. Jesus was the fulfillment of the entire law, he was the sacrifice that the previously sacrifices were a shadow of, and he is both the fulfillment or completion of the law, and the lamb that paid the price for those who believe.
-1
nerdgetsfriendly Apr 2, 2026 +3
My distilled question was: "If a law is fulfilled, but explicitly not abolished, what impact does it have on how the law still applies to everyone else?" Just explain that part... Explaining "fulfillment" by saying it's the "fulfillment or completion" doesn't really help, since: [1] defining/explaining "fulfillment" to mean "fulfillment" is uselessly circular, and... [2] "completion" is just as ambiguous, since it could mean that {A} the old laws are satisfied, done, and over with (but that would be functionally equivalent to "abolishing the old laws"), OR "completion" could mean {B} adding on some finishing pieces to fill out the last pages of the laws/rulebook, while keeping all the old laws, making it now a full complete set of the old together with the new. For [2] It seems to me that the only way to have it both ways, {A} and {B}, is to avoid clarification by playing word games to keep the ambiguity alive... The meaning has to resolve to just one of them, interpretation {A} or interpretation {B}, right? Since interpretation {A} and interpretation {B} are logically mutually-exclusive, right? --- Everything else you said, about "sacrifices" and "shadows" and "lamb that paid the price for those who believe" further exemplifies the gobbledygook style, which sounds deep and important and elaborate, but in this context actually only serves to confound clarity and dodge/confuse away from the question at hand. I was specifically asking for clarity and exactness of meaning, not metaphors or flowery poetry.

The only thing that matters from the Bible or any other religious belief is love thy neighbor as thyself. Everything else gets twisted and used as justification for hate

yea, your cherry picking the words of Jesus, which if your going to cherry pick, its the part to cherry pick, but the rest of it, and its all considered "The Bible" is peppered with a lot of bullshit..
3
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 -10
If you call choose the words of God incarnate cherry picking, I think that’s more a you problem, then intellectual dishonest on my part. Before the New Testament we only had a few examples of words directly from the mouth of God, yet with Jesus we finally get to see the heart of God laid bare.
-10
rgvtim Apr 2, 2026 +3
But you ignoring what the rest of it says, and trying to act like its all innocent, that's a you problem as well. Your brethren are using those words on a daily basis to promote very un-christian things.
3
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +1
They aren’t my brethren, as I said, anyone can call themselves a Christian, you can judge them by their actions, and it’s plain to see they are not who they claim to be. Regarding the rest of what it says, I can’t possibly cover everything in a book that can easily take a year to read, however I have tried to not ignore anything people have brought up. I think the best thing for anyone is to actually read what it says in its entirety, not cherry picked by me or anyone else, and you will see that it is not full of hate and vitriol, but a story about our brokenness and God’s mending of that brokenness, through his own sacrifice and suffering.
1
TheDukeOfHyjinx Apr 2, 2026 +5
But they are your brethren, m8. Anyone can call themselves Christian because without a concrete framework of reality, Christianity can be whatever people claim it to be. Including what they claim it to be. Including what you claim it to be. You're both stumbling around in the dark of a mythology with equivalent incorrectness and with nothing tethering you to reality.
5
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +2
You are free to lump us all together. That’s no different though than judging every Hispanic person based on the actions of a few. It is a toxic way to judge groups. Another way to look at it, two people call themselves scientists, one has a PHD, and one has a chemistry set. You could judge science by either, but one is will be much more accurate. In the same way, Christian’s should be judged by the way their own revered teacher says they should be judged “John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”” If they don’t have love for their fellow man, they aren’t a Christian.
2
TheDukeOfHyjinx Apr 2, 2026 +4
Not trying to be rude, but terrible examples. People are either Hispanic or they're not. That's genetic fact and it's abhorrent to discriminate based on something people can't choose to be. You can choose to be Christian. People can claim to be scientists, but can be disproven or proven by verifiable reality. It won't stand up to scrutiny. You both claim to be Christian. Neither of you has a greater claim to that based on any verifiable reality. It falls to scrutiny. You can claim to be a better person, and you may be correct, but that would be for purely secular reasons. Your definition of Christianity is only based on an interpretation you agree with; you can't prove it's correct.

Jesus said that ALL the Laws need to be upheld. In fact he was for making them tougher. Also live thy neighbor (Jew) originated in the OT. Tell me you have a superficial reading of Jesus without…….
2
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +2
He was the fulfillment of the law as well and the sermon on the mount, which is what I assume you are referring to when saying he made them tougher, showed that you can’t just dot all your it’s and cross all your T’s, he was showing that even the most pious person was in fact a sinner. I also quoted in another comment where Jesus quoted that from (Leviticus). Also he didn’t quality that a neighbor was a Jew, he has a whole parable about how a neighbor is the one you find in need of help (The Good Samaritan). The choice of a Samaritan was actually a group that was reviled by Jews.

Jesus is a minor character in the Bible. The majority of pages are not his words but those of others. Yes, Jesus’ words were about kindness and love, but the Bible moves past it and back into horrible ideas. Jesus was also supportive of slavery, so he gets the Thomas Jefferson award for moral ambiguity.

How about the part in Exodus 21:20-21 where you can beat your slave to within an inch of their life, and so long as they don’t die, you didn’t do anything wrong because they are your property? How about the genocide of the Amalekite infants in 1 Samuel 15:3, as punishment for crimes committed by their ancestors 400 years prior? F*** out of here with your no bad parts, or do you think it’s okay to beat humans owned as property? Or do you think sometimes babies do deserve capital punishment?

If you injured a slave you were required to free the slave, even if they lost a tooth. This is what it said about runaway slaves: Deuteronomy 23:15-16 15 If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master. 16 Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them. Also you are ignoring the history of abolition, which was led by Christian’s and most of their arguments against slavery were taken from the Bible. If you look at all slavery from the view of what black slavery was like in the south of the United States, I can see why you might feel that, with the way the rules and laws were it was much closer to employment, though I think it was still bad. There being rules on fair treatment of slaves, isn’t the same as condoning slavery.

AceDecade Apr 2, 2026 +5
1. Gonna need a source for the claim that you were required to free any slave you injure. It's certainly not in the text describing what you can do to the people you own as property 2. This verse is specifically talking about slaves owned by foreigners. There were different rules for how Israelites should conduct their own chattel slavery 3. Is the history of abolition in the bible? It's a great thing that happened, but it's unfortunately not biblically supported. 4. It's nothing like employment. It's people owned as property. Your slaves can be passed down to your children as property. There being rules on fair treatment of slaves presupposes there is a fair way to own slaves. There isn't, you ghoul. Edit: can't help but notice you have no response for the mass slaughter of babies as punishment for a crime committed by their ancestors. Was God all just when he commanded the slaughter of babies? Do babies sometimes deserve the death penalty, in your eyes?

Brother, I left the cult after 30 years. Being homeschooled, having youth leader internships, Bible study leading, apologetics classes, church 3 times per week and mission trips…. The Bible is full of inconsistencies. Being ignorant only makes you look silly. It would commendable to be able to accept the faults and say you just prefer to live out the parts you like. Best of luck to you, I hope you find your way out.
7
rkcth Apr 2, 2026
I hope you find your way back to Christ. A relationship with God isn’t membership in a church, checking off todo lists, cowering in fear of punishment. As far as inconsistencies, there are some parts that I can see why people would say that. For example it describes two different ways Judas died. We can let sin build a wall between us and God and then find reasons to doubt god. James 1:13-15 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Death in this case is spiritual death, when we allow ourselves to be sucked into sin, it can grow and fester, until we lose all track of who we are and who God is. My best to you.

Well when cherry picking the few words that prove it is just a few words in the Bible not just the new testament, it is important to only show those few words.
-3
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +3
It’s not cherry picking when it’s the entire thrust and focus of the New Testament. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” You are the one cherry picking if you ignore the entire New Testament.
3
Low_Debt8771 Apr 2, 2026 +6

6
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +2
That is not a quote from the Bible, but this is: Ephesians 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 1 Corinthians 7:21-22 21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave. Similarly Romans 13:1-3 13 All of you must obey the government rulers. Everyone who rules was given the power to rule by God. And all those who rule now were given that power by God. 2 So anyone who is against the government is really against something God has commanded. Those who are against the government bring punishment on themselves. 3 People who do right don’t have to fear the rulers. But those who do wrong must fear them. Do you want to be free from fearing them? Then do only what is right, and they will praise you. It’s also important to understand that being a slave to a jew was limited to 7 years, there were strict rules about how a slave was to be treated, and was nothing like the black slave trade in the US before the civil war. It was much closer to employment, though definitely with less freedom. I consider these verses to apply to me today with regards to how I should treat my boss. I should give him respect and try to do my best to be a good employee, being respectful.

-1
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +1
Are you referring to Elisha?
1
Darzin Apr 2, 2026 +1
Is it in the Bible?
1
rkcth Apr 2, 2026 +1
Yes, I was clarifying what you were referring to. There is basically zero context given in that story, it also doesn’t say God sent bears, nor does it say “this is how you should behave”, Elisha was a prophet, but unlike Jesus, he was not both fully God and fully man. Elisha being fully man only, was not infallible, and the Bible most definitely doesn’t hold this up as an example of what to do. It also talks about the worshippers of Molech who burned their children as sacrifices, it doesn’t hold that up as a good thing, but calls it detestable. If you call consequences for your actions hateful, then I guess in that context, our criminal justice system is hateful. People complain about how God lets terrible people get away with terrible things, but the Old Testament is full of contrary examples. God is just, and that doesn’t make him hateful or vitriolic, it makes him good.

To be fair, a lot of the concepts that Jesus brought in were revolutionary at the time like turn the other cheek instead of an eye for an eye, love thy neighbour, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God and so on. He was a rabble rousing revolutionary that the powers that be quickly got rid of.
1
Fomentor Apr 3, 2026 +1
Most religions preach about forgiveness and the evils of wealth. Jesus was only a revolutionary in the context of the mythology of Christianity.
1
litivy Apr 3, 2026 +1
That is true. His ideas were only revolutionary for the area at the time. Confucianism was far more developed and it's possible he had some exposure to eastern ideas in his missing years. We will never know.

archiopteryx14 Apr 2, 2026 +15
I would not say their beliefs go against the Bible. A lot of their deeds are verbatim compliant with the last book of the New Testament - there is just that small prefix „Anti“ to their particular flavor of Christianity.
15
zephyrtr Apr 2, 2026 +6
Later gospels have a lot of Roman concessions. They're political documents and, even if you believe in the Holy Spirit, to argue God somehow protected the whole document in perpetuity is far fetched. The whole story is documenting a political assassination.

6

Not all that much actually. And hell is only briefly and vaguely referred to.
7
Sploobert_74 Apr 2, 2026
Did I stutter? I said the devil has his part to play per the bible and I made no mention of hell. He was the serpent in the garden of Eden. He made a deal with God to torment Job. He repeatedly tempted Christ. He will, per the bible, claim to be Christ in the book of revelations heralding the end times.

I'm just going to say it, Evangelicalism isn't even an offshoot of Christianity at this point. Evangelicals are not Christians. Period. There are Catholics and Protestants. We really need to start making the distinction that Evangelicals are something completely different and don't fall under the umbrella of religion. It's entirely something else. It's like a multi-level marketing scheme using religious language that is anti-education, discourages critical thinking, but its core tenets are making money and fascism. I understand that the government will never make the classification that Evangelicals aren't Christian, but I'm going to have to do it for my own sake going forward. When I meet someone who tells me they are an Evangelical, I'm going to have to remind myself that person isn't religious.
40
Black_Otter Apr 2, 2026 +15
I think to qualify as a Christian you have to at least try to follow the New Testament. Evangelicals ask like Jesus’ teaching do t exist. They want to ignore everything the man said.
15
OGCelaris Apr 2, 2026 +9
They don't read the book. They just listen to whatever the guy at the front of the room says. I don't call that person by any name that has anything to do with religion because they don't preach religion, they preach hate.
9
seriousofficialname Apr 2, 2026 +2
The New Testament gives them permission. Paul (inventor of Christianity and author of most of the New Testament) says all you have to do is call Jesus "Lord" and affirm the resurrection.
2
Pining4theFnords Apr 3, 2026 +1
>There are Catholics and Protestants.  I will be slightly pedantic and say there are also Orthodox. But I happen to agree with the point you're making. America for hundreds of years now has been a breeding ground for a certain kind of wishful, magical, God-said-we-can-do-what-we-want variety of pseudo-Christianity that has culminated in modern evangelicalism.
1
charlieb24k Apr 2, 2026
I understand your rationale for saying that Evangelicalism isn't Christianity, because it's been politicized by American conservatives. But, I think you're unaware of Evangelicalism's origins: Black American Christianity. The Azusa Street Revival started in 1906 and was led by a Black preacher, William J. Seymour. The beliefs and tenets that came from that moment formed modern Pentecostalism, which is the basis of Evangelical Christianity. The American conservative movement robbed elements of Black American Christianity to promote their political agenda.
0
syo Apr 2, 2026 +3
Ok and? Their beliefs are still abhorrent, no matter how they originated.
3
charlieb24k Apr 2, 2026 -1
"Ok and?" And think of what Black Americans had to deal with during that period. Jim Crow and racialized violence, since it seems that you're from the American South but are ignorant of your region's history. Black Evangelicalism derived as a cultural coping mechanism for the period. I challenge you to research further before calling a whole belief system abhorrent without proving it.
-1
syo Apr 2, 2026 +2
The belief system that frequently tells me I'm going to hell because I support queer people? The same belief system that preaches that empathy for the poor and unhoused is somehow sinful? That a woman's body isn't her own to care for? I assure you I'm quite familiar. I don't really care how noble it's origins are if it's present day manifestation preaches hate and bigotry more than the actual teachings of Christ. If it was a coping method, fine whatever, they can stop coping and start acting right. Because the people speaking in your name (as an evangelical) are acting more like a death cult than anything approaching a compassionate, loving religion.

So I may be out of the loop here. Did Cain f*** up Journey?

1 Corinthians 14:33-35 [33] For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, [34] the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. [35] If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
