Watched Manchester By The Sea for the first time and hearing ‘I can’t beat it’ was horrendous.
There’s this empty lost look people get with grief and trauma, and Casey Affleck nailed that. His character just looked lost.
I can’t beat it. Haunting. Anyone that’s had mental health which lasts, grief, trauma, it feels like it becomes a part of you.
That's a great movie that I'll probably never watch again. Brutal.

Every time it's brought up, it makes me really want to watch it again.
And then I just.... can't.

I can handle everything except when he goes to get beer, so I skip over that. Such a fantastic movie.

That movie wrecked me. The scene with Michelle Williams on the street... honestly I don't think I've ever ugly cried that hard watching a film.

I basically sobbed for the entire second half of that movie. I just couldn't stop.

She’s amazing in that scene. “I should burn in hell for the things I said to you “

Fun Fact: John Krasinski came up with the story for the movie.

I can’t beat it and ”there’s just nothing there” is so rough

That and “I should burn in hell for what I said to you” man that one hits hard. I?magining all the things she must have said to him after the fact (and had a legitimate reason to say them) is just really painful

The fact that she is pregnant means there’s hope for her. He will not allow himself to have any hope. He needs to punish himself everyday, like a sinner, wearing sackcloth and ashes and whipping himself.

An amazing counter to that scene would be probably the scene 🎬 n The Mission when deniro finally lets his armor fall down the rocks and the reaction to that weight being lifted and also not being able to punish himself anymore was so touching and sad at the same time because that’s really how it feels. Like the price will never high enough and the debt never paid. His punishment changed to sacrifice as redemption

The “theres nothing there” line is so powerful. It’s anhedonia and is a hallmark of depression. I’m sure a lot of people felt that one.

Along with “you can’t just die” absolutely destroys me. Such a devastating film.

One of my all-time favourite movies but after my wife and I went through multiple miscarriages in the last couple of years, it's not something I can even think of ever rewatching.

One of the best movies of the last 25 years. I know people talk about not wanting to watch it a second time but I highly recommend you do. You'll appreciate some of the funny moments more the second time through.

I was bawling my eyes out at the scene where he and his ex were talking, it's one of the most raw, real performances I have ever seen.

Casey won the Oscar and no question that he deserved it. Just an amazing performance. So sad.

One of the most emotional movies and really made me feel suffering through the tv, the actor f****** nailed that shit.

Even the body language. The slumped shoulders. The inability to look someone in the eye. Every minute of his life is torture and he thinks he deserves it.

In to agree - that scene is so emotionally raw and absolute, just stuns you to the core.

That line and movie broke me. I can only watch it once. Casey and Michelle were amazing.

The worst part of this movie, for me, was when the credits rolled. I kept thinking that it would get better. That he would resolve something with Randi, or be able to stay in Manchester with Patty, or SOMETHING. Some expression at the end or short line that showed he was going to start to live. I spent half this movie with my hand over my mouth but only when the credits rolled did I lose it a little

I feel like the movie in general could be stronger but that part at the end was powerful.
