Thousands of people were refused entry to the EU and almost 700 identified as “a security threat” since the phasing-in of a new border check system that became fully operational Friday, Brussels said.

27k denials over 52millions crossings. What is the news exactly? That it works?

I live in France with a residency card as a Canadian citizen, so I have to use the automated system every time. It's quick and easy, no complaints for me as a traveler (except CDG is absolute shit at organizing efficient queues).

You dont have to apply to any automated system. You are already a resident. I assume you are legally in France? Your residence permit means you are excluded from such procedures.

Yes, I’m a legal resident. But when entering the country, you are divided by passport type not residence status. So I go through the gates based on my Canadian passport, not residence card.

But why? My wife goes through the EU line every time with just a residence card for years and there were never any issues. "Persons enjoying the right of free movement under Union law" I believe is a formal definition.

I may be misunderstanding - but the automated border gates scan passports not residence cards… When it was just a line up to see an agent, then sure, I could have gone straight into the EU residents line. Again, maybe I’m misunderstanding this and I could be taking a different line, but my original point stands: the automated system is very fast and easy.

I thought you were talking about EU vs. 3th countries lines to go through border control (manually so to speak) not automatic scan machines. Those are EU passport only indeed. Sorry for the confusion.

Germanys gates won’t read US passports reliably. It’s a shitshow

So were those denied entrys justified? If it was i dont see a problem.

It works well but can they please either get better chip readers or scanners. Having to try to rescan your passport 3 or 4 times before being told to go see a border agent is infuriating.

So European officials stated they are “more efficient and safer…” ofc.
