I‘ll watch the rare SNL clip here and there, but I contend that when I was a regular viewer, Jack Blacks 2005 hosted show when he was promoting Peter Jacksons ’King Kong‘ (2005) was one of the greatest eps.
I cannot for the life of me locate that opening monolog clip, but it was so good.

[Here](https://archive.org/details/saturday-night-live-s-31-e-09-jack-black_202501) is an archive.org link to the full episode (S31 EP 9) 🙂
Edit: Just want to say, if you're ever wanting any og SNL, _always_ check this site. I have also spent a lot of time saving these episodes into my personal collection but admittedly I focus on '75 to late 90s.
Also [here](https://archive.org/details/snl-season-1-46-best-quality-fixed-sound-all-extras) is a link to the mega archive of season 1-46 including extras, you'll need a lot of space to save it all though and can't just view it online, but the individual eps are there if you're looking for something specific! I have downloaded it and can confirm it's got it all.
Archive.org can be taken down at any time, almost all of SNL was taken off of there last year even, but thankfully put back up! The site went down days ago again due to server issues! It's full of things we'll never get back if it's gone! If you want to keep this media, please also save it, it's super easy and safe to save! :)

Damn. I had forgotten about that performance, but watching it now I realize I watched it then.
Also, that song is giving Steve Martin Funky Tut vibes. I'd love to see them do something together.

Is that when he did the sketch where he was the monster in the mountain that kept getting virgins sent to him and he finally pulled aside one of the villagers and was like “listen, could you get me like a middle aged woman who’s had some kids already?” Or something like that?

This episode has been completely solid throughout. JB putting on a show as always and Jack White is a perfect compliment to him unironically

That episode had Lazy Sunday, Christmas time for the Jews, and Spelling Bee. Strong contender for the best overall episode.

His first episode was a Jack Black but it was two years earlier, I believe he was promoting school of rock

Check out some of the sketches from the one he did before last night. Goth Kid On Vacation is an all time great musical number.

At this point, I look forward to the 5 Timers Club sketch's just because it's the only way to check-in with Candice Bergen.

I really wish someone would stream the original Murphy Brown. I think the biggest issue would be music rights. I think there has been enough consolidation now that it should be possible.

Tina continues to be in the SNL spotlight after hosting the inaugural UK SNL episode
If Lorne Michaels is ever gonna retire, she’s the obvious choice IMO and I’m here for it. Love her
Do we think the recent appearances are an indication that the handing over the reigns might be imminent?

She was asked about it previously, she said she didn't want it and that Lorne was irreplaceable.

It would suck if she took over because that means no more Tina Fey projects

yes…exactly the problem, she does well woth character development and how much opportunity for that is there on snl?

Because Lorne Michael hasn’t done anything in decades? Half of the SNL spinoffs are his projects.

doubtful, more likely to be testing the waters for a new series or 30 rock reboot or something. she’s a good choice for show runner but michaels is dying with that title.

I think Keenan would be the best choice to take the reins from Lorne. He’s been doing sketch comedy his entire life and doesn’t seem to want to transition to anything else
19
TheRealThordicApr 5, 2026

It'll be someone with a strong background in writing/ production, likely Fey or Steve Higgins. They both have extensive experience. Jost would be a dark horse, but the other two would likely have to pass first.

Might be the best choice but I don't think he wants to. He's staying at SNL for a reason. I think he knows what he's good at and as far as sketch comedy goes the best paid one.

I've searched online but can't find any info on this...who was the young boy who appeared in two sketches last night? He sure looked like Dismukes' son.
