Hopefully they'll get other personalities hosting shows in the same building to cameo soon.

I didn't watch the show but thought that opening monologue was pretty good! Tina Fey was a great choice! I wish them luck but wonder if Sky was the best place for it to get a big audience

Not really much of a choice! SNL is an NBC show. NBC are owned by Comcast who also own Sky. Complete chain of content creation, broadcast and distribution all in the same ecosystem, means Comcast gets to recoup all the profits.

>Complete chain of content creation, broadcast and distribution all in the same ecosystem, means Comcast gets to recoup all the profits.
The positive way to look at this is that means the show has a longer runway to success.
Since profits don't need to be split up between various entities, they can make a small profit and still be a good investment for the company.

It's also important to note that they have pitched a UK version of SNL to the big UK channels like BBC, ITV and C4 more than once over time and none of them wanted to produce the show.
3
TIGHazardMar 23, 2026
Not true, it did exist in the 80s, but it was never an "official" SNL franchise.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Live_(British_TV_programme)
> It was based on the American sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live but otherwise had no direct connection to the show.
> The series made stars of Ben Elton and Harry Enfield, and featured appearances (in some cases first television appearances) by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, Patrick Marber, Morwenna Banks, Chris Barrie, Julian Clary, Emo Philips, Tracey Ullman, Craig Ferguson, Sam Kinison, Craig Charles, Josie Lawrence and many others.

Those were unaffiliated with SNL. Lorne Michaels has subsequently tried to get a UK version of the show up and running for a long time and supposedly all of the major UK broadcasters ultimately passed up on the opportunity until Sky negotiated a deal with Lorne and his production team to help launch UK SNL.

The skin cream one was genius. "Will make you look so young everyone will think your husband is a nonce" had me f****** howling.
Shakespeare going to london repeatedly and getting more "cunty" was a bit of a unique one, and the news bit about Andrew Mountbatten being found dead in a marsh was brutal.
Overall I thought it was excellent, I went in with zero expectations but was quite surprised at how good it was.

I'm not sure why the US still does it...the show is so old fashioned and clings on by it's finger nails. Sketch shows were great about 20 years ago, but the UK rarely if ever did live group vibe comedy sketches like this...and I wish it had stayed like that.
