Let me rephrase that slightly.
I could totally see someone giving to twenty different veteran charities and one of them being a scam that doesn't support vets at all. I would find that believable.
I'm way more skeptical of someone giving to a single veteran charity that just happened to be a scam, and they didn't realize where their money was going.
I assume the latter here, but I don't know her donation habits. For my part, I've donated to the USO, AmVets, IAVA, and I'm sure a few more. I've also donated to partisan vet organizations like VoteVets but I was 100% aware that I was primarily sending money to a partisan organization more than a veteran organization with that last example.
I could see certainly see Trump scamming someone, claiming that the money was going to vets. But it would still be absolutely clear that Trump was the middleman in such a scenario, even if the money stopped at the middleman.

Almost all of Trump's fundraising emails and ads are presented as a scam meant to trick old people into donating. But you have to be susceptible to scams on old people to fall for it, and you have to be even dumber to not at least realize it is in support of MAGA/conservatives. It probably did focus on some bullshit about helping veterans though.

What Chilli did or actually believes aside, it is true that a lot of political groups exploit people’s lack of awareness and patience like this and trick you into supporting causes you’re against.
For example, you’ll see a text message or email or web link with “Do you want to protect your children?” or “Help us fight sex trafficking!” with a big shiny donate button next to the phrase. Only if you actually read the smaller font paragraphs or the disclaimer text will you realize they are some GOP SuperPAC that’s taking about transgender bathroom bills or further funding ICE.

As crazy as it sounds that is also very possible. Political organizations are really really sneaky lately especially with Trump. They ask you to donate to some charity, veteran organization, religious group, etc. What you don't know is that you're donating to someone's political campaign and not some charity. Not saying this happened with her. But it is possible.
