Tom Ellis doing all the heavy lifting here. CBS didn’t even try to surround him with a more interesting/ charismatic cast.

His co-star in Lucifer had the charisma of a garage door. What Ellis needs is more freedom to carry his scenes. There is no point in hiring someone with his talent and then make the character bland.

You mean Chloe? I mean she's the straight 'man' of the pair. There's usually a clown and someone who's done with the clown in such a show.

He needs a pulpy and bombastic action-comedy vehicle to wax dialogue in

So looking at that image from the article. Did they actually try and downplay his looks?
Dude is very very good looking. His wardrobe in Lucifer was fantastic.
You want to cast him, don’t downplay his looks…

I saw him recently in Tell Me Lies, trust me as long as he’s not wearing prosthetics or a trash ban, it’s very hard to downplay his looks.

I've watched the first couple of episodes and it's been okay.
The most unpredictable thing so far was the very end of episode 2. Everything else has turned out like a mediocre episode of NCIS. "Yeah, he's probably just in over his head. Who is the real bad guy? Oooh, there he is. Ah, this person is definitely going to betray them." kind of stuff. If you've seen any of these shows in the last decade, this one, at least where I'm at, hasn't thrown anything new or original at me yet.
The most frustrating part has been, as a person who loved Lucifer, they're not giving Tom Ellis anything to work with. Half of the time he and the other lead just mumble through their lines in a way that would make Sam Elliott jealous.
All that said, my love for Ellis is going to get me to at least watch the rest of season 1. So far it works perfectly well as something to have on while my wife and I are eating dinner.

Way too generic for me, seems like low effort TV, sad for Tom tho.

It'll keep him busy and his bills paid if it continues. Not too sad for him.

> sad for Tom tho.
Lucifer was pretty huge and it got to 5 seasons, he'll get money out of it forever

Yeah I bet he has a healthy perspective and isn’t sad but grateful to have steady work in Hollywood today

This series had so many creative problems behind the scenes (fired actors and directors, on its third showrunner before it ever aired) that I am impressed they managed to put out coherent episodes. Have to think the series will only get better now that there is stability at the top and a guaranteed short-term future.

Feels like these shows either find their footing in season 2 or fall off completely- no in-between.
Has anyone here actually been watching it consistently, or is this more of a “background show” for most people?

That's kind of shocking considering their ratings haven't been the greatest.

Plane crash with no survivors in season 2?
Now that I think about it they must be saving it for the finale.
