Tom Ford’s 'Cry to Heaven' Wraps Filming In Rome. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Adele, Colin Firth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany, Thandiwe Newton, Ciarán Hinds, Owen Cooper, Hunter Schafer, Mark Strong
Based on *Cry to Heaven*, the 1982 novel by Anne Rice, it is written, produced, and directed by Tom Ford. Rice’s *Cry to Heaven* is a sprawling historical drama set in the vibrant, baroque world of 18th-century Italy, where opera and politics intertwine.
*'The film follows Tonio, a nobleman castrated by his half-brother, who rises to fame as a soprano under the guidance of opera star Guido. The story explores betrayal, identity, and redemption.'*
Crazy how Tom Ford, an already successful fashion mogul, decided to try his hand at filmmaking and instantly knocked it out of the park as if he'd been doing it for years.

Tom Ford originally wanted to be an actor but was too insecure for it. IIRC, a barber pointed out he was balding and it killed his confidence. Fashion came much later.

[Chris Diamantopoulos](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Diamantopoulos#/media/File:Chris_Diamantopoulos_4th_Annual_Norma_Jean_Gala_(cropped).jpg) should play him in a biopic, looks just like [him](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Ford#/media/File:Tom_Ford_cropped_2009.jpg)

He's an acquired taste for many. I like him because he's someone with a fairly distinct personal vision, which is increasingly rare in modern Hollywood, but there are just as many people who dislike his movies as there are who like them.

I don't see how anyone could say Nocturnal Animals is a *bad* film.

I like that movie. But I also know some people who didn't like it.

I thought it was pretty bad. I didn't care about any of the characters and the only interesting parts were a story that didn't happen.

I'm not sure you can say any of his films from a technical standpoint are badly made. But his stuff does sometimes get accusations of being style over substance or shallow. But what stories people find interesting are always subjective.

Well shot doesn’t mean well made imo. It seems others disagree, but I do question their taste.

There is no accounting for taste lol, but yes if you like style over substance it’s fine. It is not better than that though, as much like the man himself it lacks any soul.

There is most certainly substance. A man expressing his anger at his ex wife through an extremely dark, violent piece of fiction with direct allegorical representation to their life... Idk ive never seen it done, at least not well 🤷♂️

I wouldn’t he has a hair full of hair. I mean he’s got clearly a receding hairline. He probably started taking something in the past to stop the rest of his hair from falling.

tom ford directing this specific group of people means every single frame and costume in this movie is about to look unimaginably gorgeous tbh.

I'm a big fan of Tom Ford (I'm wearing his cologne right now) and think he's done a great job directing his other two features - Nocturnal Animals and A Single Man.
What a talent.

I've seen a lot hate comments towards him. What did he do??
None of the celebrities is accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, who was charged with federal counts of child sex trafficking in 2019 and died soon after his arrest in a New York jail cell.
Why bother reading the article?

Where does it say he didn't? If someone typically emails someone to hang, you follow up by phone. Tom Ford ran a modeling agency. Lived next door to Epstein. Desperately wanted to hang out. Do you need any more dots to connect lines?
