Tom Ford’s 'Cry to Heaven' Wraps Filming In Rome. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Adele, Colin Firth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany, Thandiwe Newton, Ciarán Hinds, Owen Cooper, Hunter Schafer, Mark Strong

Posted by ChiefLeef22

Based on *Cry to Heaven*, the 1982 novel by Anne Rice, it is written, produced, and directed by Tom Ford. Rice’s *Cry to Heaven* is a sprawling historical drama set in the vibrant, baroque world of 18th-century Italy, where opera and politics intertwine. *'The film follows Tonio, a nobleman castrated by his half-brother, who rises to fame as a soprano under the guidance of opera star Guido. The story explores betrayal, identity, and redemption.'*

Crazy how Tom Ford, an already successful fashion mogul, decided to try his hand at filmmaking and instantly knocked it out of the park as if he'd been doing it for years.

Tom Ford originally wanted to be an actor but was too insecure for it. IIRC, a barber pointed out he was balding and it killed his confidence. Fashion came much later.

Yet he’s a beautiful man, damn insecurity comes for us all

[Chris Diamantopoulos](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Diamantopoulos#/media/File:Chris_Diamantopoulos_4th_Annual_Norma_Jean_Gala_(cropped).jpg) should play him in a biopic, looks just like [him](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Ford#/media/File:Tom_Ford_cropped_2009.jpg)

He's an acquired taste for many. I like him because he's someone with a fairly distinct personal vision, which is increasingly rare in modern Hollywood, but there are just as many people who dislike his movies as there are who like them.

I don't see how anyone could say Nocturnal Animals is a *bad* film.

LizardOrgMember5 Mar 24, 2026 +8
I like that movie. But I also know some people who didn't like it.

JesusPlayingGolf Mar 24, 2026 -12
I thought it was pretty bad. I didn't care about any of the characters and the only interesting parts were a story that didn't happen.

bravetailor Mar 24, 2026 +5
I'm not sure you can say any of his films from a technical standpoint are badly made. But his stuff does sometimes get accusations of being style over substance or shallow. But what stories people find interesting are always subjective.

JesusPlayingGolf Mar 24, 2026 +4
Nocturnal Animals does look great. I'll give him that
4
Funmachine Mar 24, 2026 +4
> any of his films ... He's made two films. You wrote this like he has a huge back catalogue.

Thanks for saving me a search

Well shot doesn’t mean well made imo. It seems others disagree, but I do question their taste.
0
theodo Mar 24, 2026 +1
That's kind of the point though so it did it's job.
1
JesusPlayingGolf Mar 24, 2026
Sure. I didn't like the point or find it worthwhile.

JustAboutAlright Mar 24, 2026 -10
There is no accounting for taste lol, but yes if you like style over substance it’s fine. It is not better than that though, as much like the man himself it lacks any soul.
-10
theodo Mar 24, 2026 +4
There is most certainly substance. A man expressing his anger at his ex wife through an extremely dark, violent piece of fiction with direct allegorical representation to their life... Idk ive never seen it done, at least not well 🤷‍♂️

He has full hair or is he wearing a wig?
4
CuddleTeamCatboy Mar 24, 2026 +9
He can presumably afford a hair transplant now.
9
morkfjellet Mar 24, 2026 +7
I wouldn’t he has a hair full of hair. I mean he’s got clearly a receding hairline. He probably started taking something in the past to stop the rest of his hair from falling.
7
tfhermobwoayway Mar 24, 2026 -7
Well, we don’t know it’s a good movie yet.

DoctorBreakfast Mar 24, 2026 +27
I was referring to his first two movies
27
drmonkey555 Mar 24, 2026 +19
He's made 2 movies before A Single Man, and Nocturnal Animals. Nocturnal Animals in particular is incredible.

dirtytomato Mar 24, 2026 -2
Because he has?

Budget_Addendum_4595 Mar 24, 2026 +171
tom ford directing this specific group of people means every single frame and costume in this movie is about to look unimaginably gorgeous tbh.

uncultured_swine2099 Mar 25, 2026 +3
I bet the main casts of his movies is hooked up for life with some nice red carpet attire.

Blood_Honey666 Mar 24, 2026 +91
Love his movies. Nocturnal animals was haunting.

shinzilla Mar 24, 2026 +12
For me the car chase scene in Nocturnal Animals is a top three scene in terms of intensity.
12
Blood_Honey666 Mar 24, 2026 +3
That and One Battle after Another are masterworks in car chases

Adele?!

TripleSingleHOF Mar 24, 2026 +46
Oh, this is awesome to hear. I'm a big fan of Tom Ford (I'm wearing his cologne right now) and think he's done a great job directing his other two features - Nocturnal Animals and A Single Man. What a talent.

Snoopaloop212 Mar 24, 2026 +8
Love his eyeglass frame line.

penislobsterpie Mar 24, 2026 +9
Wow what a lineup. I wonder if they will adapt the original book ending where >!Tonio dresses up as a hooker and seduces his dad and gives him a b******, to reveal ‘aha, it’s me’ !<
9
ShontelleMontelle Mar 25, 2026 +2
This is insane. I wanna watch it.

BabyScreamBear Mar 24, 2026 -2

Best Actor - Nicholas Hoult. Best Picture - Cry To Heaven. Best Director - Tom Ford. Best Song - Adele.

OracleVision88 Mar 24, 2026 +7
I loved Nocturnal Animals, so I will definitely be checking for this
7
RVarki Mar 25, 2026 +6
You just know a lot of people are going to act like this movie got made because Chalamet crapped on Opera
6
samthewisetarly Mar 24, 2026 +7
Nocturnal Animals was a bit aimless, imo, but an absolutely gorgeous film. High expectations for this
7
Dottsterisk Mar 24, 2026 +16
Not gonna downvote but very much disagree. Can you elaborate on why you felt it was aimless?
16
wanderfukt Mar 24, 2026 +18
Well because, like, the whole story happens like inside a book man. Nothing like happens in the real world. She just like goes to dinner or something.

ZippidieDooDah Mar 24, 2026 +22
Now I wish The Dude had a Letterboxd filled with reviews like this

This is a fantastic book so I guess the feature length perfume ad will look gorgeous.

AncoraPirlo Mar 24, 2026 +4
Castrated, what a hassle for the lad.

Don_Vicente Mar 25, 2026 +2
Tom Ford might qualify as a true example of a Renaissance Man

Difficult_Garage_431 Mar 24, 2026 -1
Paul Bettany is revolting.

tnosukechan518 Mar 25, 2026 +2
I've seen a lot hate comments towards him. What did he do??
2

Too bad he's a pedo and former buds with Epstein.

Noor440 Mar 24, 2026 +2
That's news to me. Who did he sexually assault?

None of the celebrities is accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, who was charged with federal counts of child sex trafficking in 2019 and died soon after his arrest in a New York jail cell. Why bother reading the article?
8
mothspon Mar 24, 2026 -7
If you hung with Epstein, odds are you did something you shouldn't have.
-7
dannytrejostattoos Mar 24, 2026 +8
Where does that say they ever hung out?
8
mothspon Mar 24, 2026 -3
Where does it say he didn't? If someone typically emails someone to hang, you follow up by phone. Tom Ford ran a modeling agency. Lived next door to Epstein. Desperately wanted to hang out. Do you need any more dots to connect lines?

dannytrejostattoos Mar 24, 2026 +7
He visited a ranch ford owned. That's like saying Mr Rogers is a pedophile because JE visited the set of nr Rogers neighborhood
