>In January, she opened up about the gruelling physical training she undertook for the entirety of 2025, stating: “We've been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February of last year, of training.”
>Turner also told *The Julia Cunningham Show* that she had never worked out before, which made training particularly harder.
It's always going to be a challenge getting non-action actors to film action sequences

37
MicpMar 31, 2026

Good stunt people can work wonders, but even still if the main actor can't do anything by themselves you're in for Taken 3 levels of shitty action and bad cinematography and editing because you can't show the actors face whenever anything big is going on.
5
blindreeferMar 31, 2026
+1
Not necessarily. Big budget filmmakers have definitely gotten lazier over the years but if you know your actors aren’t going to perform the stunts, you can and should plan ahead to shoot the stunts in a way that makes those stunts seamlessly woven into the action.
There’s even a case from all the way back in 1993 where the post production VFX artists were able to superimpose Ariana Richards’s face onto her stunt double when she accidentally looked up at the camera.

That was during game of thrones so she was younger and we all know metabolisms slow as they age but that doesn’t sound like someone who followed nutritionists advice all that much.

I’m of the mind that OG Lara is the best Lara. True, my favorite game of the series is Legend, but there’s something about OG Lara that captivated all of us.

This is why, having worked in the entertainment business for a long time, I have always been against actors doing their own stunt work, one injury stops paychecks to a lot of people. I do acknowledge there are certain actors where that is part of the marketing appeal and general appeal of the film so I have an uncomfortable carve out for them.
17
ElSnarkerMar 31, 2026
+1
At the same time, it seems her injury initially occured during training. I agree with you that the whole idea of the stuntman star is overated and can be a major burden on the production and crew but I do expect the actor to at least to be physically fit enough to seemlessly transition between them and their stunt doubles.
There's also the danger of an actor injuring themselves doing a fist fight (like Harrison Ford in Temple of Doom or Daniel Craig in Spectre) where the close up nature of the scene necessitates the star to be more involved to preserve believability/the suspension of disbelief that they are action heroes.

Dark Phoenix was an awful movie and she publicly stated that the backlash was hard to deal with personally.
The game adaptation has already been done. Angelina Jolie was the perfect Tomb Raider choice. I could see Gal Gadot being a great Tomb Raider.
Sophie Turner is no Tomb Raider. Like casting Kid Rock as Jack Reacher. She has no chops to be in this type of movie/show. She doesn't do "Mysteriously aggressive and s*** but also smart" and that's who Tomb Raider is.
