Iran has been hit in the economy ever since the revolution. What else can they do?
214
Pale_Sell1122 Apr 15, 2026 +94
That's why they are trying to destroy civilian infrastructure.
94
chrosairs Apr 15, 2026 +38
Americans in that Bush grindset of turning countries into 1990s Iraq
38
johnnycyberpunk Apr 15, 2026 +30
They’ll have to go after countries that still do business with Iran. China, Russia, India, Pakistan. **All nuclear powers**. Good luck
30
ComprehensiveCake463 Apr 15, 2026 +10
Yeah they are used to it
10
111anza Apr 16, 2026 +5
Finally, I still dont understand why they ramp up the pain in us
5
danm67 Apr 16, 2026 +2
They are into S&M.
2
plaidtattoos Apr 15, 2026 +231
It’s something they definitely know how to do. They’ve been ramping up the economic pain on Americans since Inauguration Day.

Tyrrox Apr 15, 2026 +36
Is Trump going to try and Make Iran Great Again?
36
txroller Apr 15, 2026 +6
Damn. Iran has no hope if he goes down that road
6
rajastrums_1 Apr 15, 2026 +5
THAT'S IT! He can f*** up ANYTHING. Genius idea! Drop him in and let him go to work!
5

Can we send him over there?

LOL. Five minutes before I came to say it. Well done.

And the rest of the world.

Was gonna say too bad us American non Epstein class will foot the bill because it was profitable to put a child molesting narcissistic psychopath with a lifespan of a freckled banana and has no concept of accountability because he’s never faced it…(gasp for air) in charge of essentially the planet considering every time this worthless prick opens his a*** shaped mouth the entire stock market flip flops up and down like Sydney Sweeney on an angry horse…exactly right after he “truths” …spiraling the global economy into hell and oh, also the killing for no reason aside from profitable munitions sales etc
2
dkillers303 Apr 16, 2026 +1
And they’ve also been ramping up economic pain on Iranians since the 50’s
1
GTor93 Apr 15, 2026 +30
"and we will ramp up even more economic pain on Americans"
30
LuminaraCoH Apr 16, 2026 +2
Don't worry, Israel and Russia will be fine!
2
2_Spicy_2_Impeach Apr 15, 2026 +91
They have no plan and are floundering. They figured they’d eliminate some leadership and magically the country’s populace would rise up. Except only a f****** idiot believes that would happen with just bombing. And Trump trusts other world leaders more than our own military/experts.
91
PatchyWhiskers Apr 15, 2026 +27
It’s very TV though isn’t it? The suffering oppressed masses rise up the moment the wicked despot dies.
27
2_Spicy_2_Impeach Apr 15, 2026 +9
I hadn't thought of it like that but that's the perfect example.
9
dern_the_hermit Apr 15, 2026 +5
"Just toss 'em some guns and see what happens." -peak MAGA genius
5
roosterthumper Apr 16, 2026 +4
It’s what a lot of conservatives think would happen. They have never known starvation and a failed state, they got no idea what 3 days and no clean water does to a person.
4
RikiWardOG Apr 15, 2026 +15
Not only this, Iran has clearly war gamed this scenario A LOT. The only outcome from this is Iran coming out a hell of a lot stronger and the US having to bend over and take it.
15
Primary-Gazelle-8161 Apr 15, 2026 +11
Such a silly notion. Iran is not religiously diverse like Iraq or Syria. They are all Shiaa there. Ofc they were going to rally to the flag when you bomb their schools and universities.
11
wh4tth3huh Apr 16, 2026 +6
It's also generally pretty bad form to assassinate the people that you're supposed to negotiate with...
6
Drekkful Apr 16, 2026 +3
Especially when the old man was the one preventing nuclear weapons production and now his son's in charge and not so naive
3
Hangry_Howie Apr 16, 2026 +2
It's worse than that. The bulk of the government resistance was in the cities, where people were better educated. Now we've leveled those cities after the Iranian government went on a killing spree, effectively removing any homegrown allies that could have helped. Pure incompetence
2
CTRexPope Apr 16, 2026 +1
Trump lost the war for America. It’s astounding how far he has caused our country to fall.
1
Kaiisim Apr 16, 2026 +1
Trump's issue is that his own military advisors, and actually even close allies like Ted Cruz were like "no that's bullshit, the Israelis are full of shit" So now he wants his military to do something they specifically told him they can't achieve.
1
terdles1121 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Other world leaders being from Russia and Israel? Also easy to do when you fire the experts and people that actually look at the full picture.
1
Acceptable-Peace-69 Apr 15, 2026 +22
Bessent- Stay in your lane a******. Worry about how to fix the problems your boss created by imposing tariffs on the world and starting an unnecessary war because a foreign government wanted it. You’re not responsible for foreign policy. Focus on American citizens. Even racist MAGAs didn’t vote for this.
22
mixmasterADD Apr 15, 2026 +19
I am old enough to remember the US saying that this war was to help Iranians
19
PigFarmer1 Apr 15, 2026 +8
I remember when it was about nuclear weapons until King Donnie said he didn't care about their uranium.
8
sleeptightburner Apr 15, 2026 +50
Translation: Prepare for even more economic pain in the US.
50
clutcher_of_pearls Apr 15, 2026 +18
And around the globe as well!
18
MercantileReptile Apr 15, 2026 +8
This. In times of €2/Litre or $8.93/Gallon fuel prices and everything else rising as well, plenty of Americans seem to have forgotten the rest of the World exists. Much less is affected by their bullshit. Now the reserves are ticking down, fertiliser becomes an issue and chemical industries are getting nervous. Reconstruction of all the destroyed infrastructure will take years. With no sign of this c*** ending, the World will eventually run out of patience and options. Any and all levers outside of direct violence will be in play against the US. Until Trump's military finally goes the f*** home. Maybe the non-aggressor nations can then try talks again, restore a vital trade route to carry, y'know...trade. It's all so avoidable and frustrating, coupled with sheer Ignorance.
8
GordonShumway257 Apr 15, 2026 +11
"And it will be worth it because it's not the Democrats doing it and it doesn't impact me." ~ Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, probably.

bessent makes america miss mnuchin, he's that bad

"In stunning and unique economic move, Trump announces 100% export tariff on American goods in bid to cause economic pain to Iran!"
4
Slypenslyde Apr 15, 2026 +11
They misspelled "United States", easy typo.
11
Blubbolo Apr 15, 2026 +8
Leave it to the US to embarrass themselves daily. Iran had economic sanctions for years. You claimed to have "won" by destroying their "nuclear capability"...last year. You then started a war, claimed to have "won" and destroyed their military, navy, Air defence to then beg the world to come help you unfuck the situation. You had to remove the "economic pain" on Iran by removing sanctions on their oil.l because you fucked big time and oil prices skyrocketed. Your master sabotaged the peace talk and now you talk about new "economic pain" on a nation you can't defeat? So much winning.
8
ThePlanner Apr 15, 2026 +9
So, the same policy as it is applying to its allies?
9
KimJongFunk Apr 15, 2026 +6
Another pump and dump of the stock market?
6
7ddlysuns Apr 15, 2026 +5
Us, he means economic pan on us
5
Pale_Sell1122 Apr 15, 2026 +22
And then JD Vance has the audacity to say Iran is guilty of economic terrorism for exerting control over a strait it shares territorial water with during a war started by the US. Every accusation is a confession. The goal of sanctions and war where they target civillian infrastructure is to bring suffering to Iranian civillians so they have no choice but to turn against their govt. But this will never happen, US underestimates Iranian patriotism.
22
7ddlysuns Apr 15, 2026 +9
They lie and snear at us because it pleases them
9
issm Apr 15, 2026 +6
It's not even "patriotism" per se. People who live in a country always have a tendency to support their government more after some crisis or major event happens. It's so common and understood it has a name: Rally around the flag effect. But, for some reason, no one ever seems to factor in that this effect applies for everyone else as well.
6
KwisatzHaderach94 Apr 15, 2026 +4
america is exporting "you will own nothing and be happy" and applying it to entire other countries...
4

What, he's going to make them come over here and live in the U.S.?
5
LunchBoxMercenary Apr 15, 2026 +3
Oh that’s cool. At least Iran and the U.S. now have something in common where we’re both suffering from economic pain from this administration.

3

Or we could just end the war.

Interesting admission given that the economic terrorism threat out of ol couch lover comes so closely.

Treasury secretary says US will ramp up economic pain on US
3
FillFrontFloor Apr 15, 2026 +3
But the people of Iran were already protesting and suffering and getting killed. Wtf does putting pressure on them do more? Their leaders will not be affected since they will still have food, water, luxuries in the table. The military will also have rations to keep them fighting.
3
Marcysdad Apr 15, 2026 +3
Cool. That definitely won't lead to iran destroying the ports, oil refineries/drilling sites, factories (fertilizer), and desalination plants of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc. That would mean even with the stait of Hormouz being open eventually, it would take more than 10 years until the world economy normalizes In short- a depression - not just a recession.
3
bornlasttuesday Apr 15, 2026 +3
Will they also be ramping up economic pain on the United States?
3
stitchface66 Apr 15, 2026 +3
can we ramp down the economic pain here??
3
ThisOnes4JJ Apr 15, 2026 +3
by ramping up the economic pain on everyone of course  *insert big brain time meme*🙄
3
Bishopjones2112 Apr 16, 2026 +3
Actually he means they will ramp up the economic pain on Americans.
3
Brave_Conflict465 Apr 16, 2026 +3
They've certainly done a pretty good job ramping it up at home. Gas stations are starting to run dry, nice going MAGA's, you really saved the country with all those dumb stickers.
3
danm67 Apr 16, 2026 +3
They need to rename the Republican Party the Sadistic Party. They seem to get their kicks from harming people.

So, double secret probation.
2
HeggyMe Apr 15, 2026 +2
The current US government literally went out of their way and sold the tools they would use to exert “economic pain” on middle eastern regimes. This administration is a laughing stock.
2
resisting_a_rest Apr 15, 2026 +2
But, but what about the bombs and stuff?
2
Buckaroobanzai028 Apr 15, 2026 +2
Like the pain they've inflicted on the people of the US?

I think he meant on the USA
2
prroteus Apr 15, 2026 +2
Ramp up economic pain? You mean the last 40+ years? Oh ok, good luck 🍀. It will work just like eliminating all their leaders
2
TeleRock Apr 15, 2026 +2
Well, they are certainly ramping up economic pain here.
2
Xivvx Apr 15, 2026 +2
Iran has had sanctions forever, their economy is immune at this point.
2
SHUT_DOWN_EVERYTHING Apr 15, 2026 +2
What he means is economic pain for average Iranian citizen. Look at North Korea. Iran can get just as bad with the government still surviving while people suffer.
2
whydontyousuckmyball Apr 16, 2026 +2
And after the was they will ramp up the price of oil to make it back.
2
No_Direction6688 Apr 16, 2026 +2
The rest of the world sees the United State's role in this War much differently. The world view is that Iran is inflicting economic pain on the US.
2
Knees0ck Apr 16, 2026 +2
damn, must have been an autocorrect error, think he might have meant the USA.
2
Red_dylinger Apr 16, 2026 +2
Economic like America is currently facing?

Domestically as well. Don’t worry it’s a feature, not a bug.
1

Maybe they can reduce sanctions agains. That'll show them.
1
Jock-Tamson Apr 15, 2026 +1
It is helpful, you syphilitic demon muppets, when trying to threaten someone into doing something that you make it clear what the f*** it is you what them to do.
1
alexefi Apr 15, 2026 +1
if its same pain they causing by increasing oil prices, removing sanction from iranian oil, and letting iran sell oil for inflated prices, and rumors have it not using USD for transactions, im sure that gonna work out..

Another admin47 oar in the water, which will cause the US ship of state to rotate endlessly around the same stalemated place/situation, it got itself in appeasing zealot Israeli politicians. Watch how the rest of the world responds, " Sure, go ahead and try that without our additional support."

These f*** nuts are doing nothing HERE AT HOME.

This isn't part of the Treasury Secretary's role although nothing should come as a surprise when we're talking about the most corrupt presidential administration in US history...

Bessent is a dummy. He claims that the iIRGC parks money in gulf states countries. I seriously doubt that they hold a significant amount there as they didnt have good relations with most of them. Their funds are probably mostly in China, who Bessent also threatened through two of their banks. Remember what happened the last time the US waged an economic war against China.
1
Infamous-Sky-1874 Apr 15, 2026 +1
He knows that Iran isn't offshoring money in the Gulf States. Why would they when they absolutely despise each other. But he knows the average American has absolutely zero clue about the relationships in the region other than they are mostly Muslims.
