As a lifelong (45) TRON fan, I was HYPED for this show. I love both films and was pumped for this. The fact that we only got one season was painful to me. The fact that they got both Bruce Boxleitner back for TRON and Elijah Wood for Beck was wild to me. Also, my desktop hard drive is named Tron City and my portable drive is named Argon City. lol.

I like how you said both films haha. There’s a third one! I watched all three last week, and I liked Ares. Seeing Tron vehicles and weapons in the real world was very cool to see

Ares was panned... but all Tron movie doesn't get good rating anyway lol, I loved 1st and 2nd one.
Its been on my list for awhile now, time to give it a watch!

It’s worth the watch! The Nine Inch Nails soundtrack really sets the mood, it’s a visual treat, and the story (mostly) makes sense

The NIN soundtrack definitely had a vibe, but it's pretty much the same theme on loop for the entire movie, and if you watched the trailer you've already heard it. Legacy's soundtrack was incredibly diverse and stands on its own.

Yeah, I listen to the soundtrack pretty regularly with the other Daft Punk albums.

Oh, I actually really enjoyed Ares! I don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Leto wasn't NEARLY as bad as he's been in other films. I absolutely how much love they gave the first film. Of course, they sort of just ignored the second film.
My comment was mostly due to there having been just two films when the show came out! lol

it helps that Leto isn't really the main character of Ares

True haha. There was a few callbacks to Legacy in Ares. The security guard dropping his coffee happened in both films.
I liked Leto in this role. He played an AI killer with a conscious, and did a good job of it!
Ares didn’t make a ton of money so idk if we’ll get a fourth anytime soon but I hope we get another

I think the biggest failing of TRON: Ares...was that there was no Tron. And they had the PERFECT spot for it. When Encom sent their programs into Dillinger's network, they could have had Tron do a super hero landing and just show him, even with the mask up. But, they didn't. It's a damn shame, too.

The art style and soundtrack were insane, like Blade Runner for kids’ TV. It deserved multiple seasons. Honestly, Disney+ should push it on the front page for a month.

I quite enjoyed Uprising, but since it is a prequel to Legacy you know from the beginning that the conflict presented in the show would never get resolved. Maybe they would have eventually dove into the origin of the ISOs. The show was cancelled after one season, but it's worth while for the visuals and soundtrack.

FWIW (It's cancelled for 16 years so ..not much lol) it was like way out from Legacy. Like some estimates put it 20 years before Legacy and a bit after Tron: Evolution.
They definitely would've had to address Legacy at somepoint but there was kind of enough going on they could've built their own conflicts like they had and probably ran past Legacy with Beck being very established having done it for years.

Well, we know that Tron's corruption isn't stopped and he falls into the hands of Clu, Clu completes his takeover of The Grid and Beck is unable to stop him, and Beck never appears on screen in Legacy. Any "uprising" hinted by the title is unsuccessful, and you might as well assume that Beck is defeated or derezzed.
I liked the world building, but the larger story was already told. At the very least getting only one seasons didn't have a chance to show anything changing in the world outside of what is known to happen in Legacy.

Idk, you could say that about anything you watch something for the second time. (I already know what happens!)
I think one of the things that it did provide a lot of value for is better bridging the original film and Legacy. A lot of it is better establishing the 'fall of Flynn' and expanding on things Tron himself was up to between then. Like finally give the titular character some screen time.
I do know they had the contract for Legacy 2 locked and loaded and were planning to shoot back to back. So I'm sure that's why it's before Legacy. Maybe Beck would've been in Legacy 2? lol. But Disney bought Marvel around then and dropped everything they were doing to focus on that. Maybe if they gave Uprising a second season it could've gone past Legacy and been Beck helping Flynn clean up Clu's forces or something.

Show was a banger and added some plot depth missing from Legacy. We'll never get back what they took from us. Leto made sure of that.

It wasn’t “under-appreciated” at all when it was first released.

Indeed, but I've been surprised by how many people have either completely forgotten about it, or never knew it existed.

I actually just rewatched the whole series right before Ares came out. I think it's still a really good show that holds up. The art style is odd but the quality is super high. Like there's some fight and vehicles scenes that are really good. It's got a lot going on and it actually does a much better job than Legacy of making it feel like a city of computer programs. You can actually get a sense of what the parrallels between computer processing and what they are doing better. Legacy didn't really do much to make it's city feel lived in despite being visually amazing.
I do think some of the stronger elements was Tron himself and near the end of the season they started doing flashbacks to when Clu tookover and the ISO genocide. That shit went kind of hard lol. I genuinely think Legacy would've been better for it having a bit more of that since it kind of showed the position Flynn was in and better setup Clu feeling cast aside. Like there's roughly 3 minute scene of when Clu actually turns on him that I think would've served the move much better. It wouldn't have taken much, it was the main conflict, as much as I love Legacy the past stuff feels underbaked. Had they done a second season it would've been great if they filled that out more. I also did like Beck.

Yes. The Cyberpunk 2077: Edge Runners tie in animation on Netflix was also really good.

That's wild. I'd never seen the original and had no idea it came out easily a decade before it would have been possible, but I would've sworn that the stilted and atonal quality of the voiceover meant it was AI slop.

I enjoyed the show in general, but thought the animation style was ugly, looks only slightly better than What If? and Marvel Zombies to me.

Yah the characters were strangely lanky and had stiff animations. However, I think that was an intentional creative choice. The characters were programs after all, not humans.

Is there a single thing in the Tron franchise that doesn't require that I lower my standards?
