There was a father in our culdesac that abruptly and painlessly passed away from an aneurysm. Unfortunately it was at the dinner table with his wife and 2 young kids. F*** that’s brutal. I still remember the firetruck and ambulance coming and wondering what happened since it was atypical in our neighborhood growing up. That kinda passing is too kind for these people who have knowingly contributed to our countries unraveling and downfall because greed and racism prevailed.

Sure, but the real important bit is that *even if it were true*, the protests are still important. Rallies & the like all gather people together to remind them that they are surrounded by like-minded people, and to remind everyone else watching that they exist. Even if the government doesn't respond today, protests are groundwork for a movement that can make it respond tomorrow. But if you *don't* protest when it's ineffective, there will never be an opportunity for it to grow into something effective.

That’s not even the point. These big scheduled rallies are not for getting the message across to the fascists in power or the people supporting them. Those people are beyond reach. They’re for supporting those of us who want things to change. When I go to one of these I feel like I’m not alone. It inspires me to get involved. It connects me with other people who think like me. It creates momentum and keeps us from giving up hope. I don’t think anyone expects things to change the day after a protest like this. We’re trying to energize the population and show everyone that we care and that there are a ton of us who do.

I’m seeing these protests in rural west central Texas today. They’re not huge but they are for sure visible. I have seen them in 3-4 towns between Eastland and Brownwood which is not exactly a highly populated or progressive area so to see any at all is a big step.

the thing is, this is probably the truth. And that's why a lot of people feel like protesting doesn't accomplish anything. In reality, it seems most of what it does is demonstrate to others, both domestically and abroad, that the citizenry does not agree with the regime. This has value for sure, but it doesn't directly cause change. If you want to directly cause change, you need to do things besides protesting. If all you are willing to do is protest, you need to do it beyond these state-approved single-day events and be willing to have that experience be uncomfortable and inconvenient for you. If ALL you can do is protest, it would take weeks of constant, unbroken mass protest to move the needle.
