Seems likely. I mean, we had a 12 day war last year. 60 day war this year. It's absurd they're not considered the same conflict tbh. The Hundred Years' War had whole years of low conflict between intense bouts of conflicts over the course of 116 years, and we have no problem calling it a single war.

Even if it doesn't and the US and Israel just walk away... Iran has absolutely no incentive to stop. It just keeps lobbing missile and drones at ships in the Hormuz Strait and oil facilities around the ME and gas prices will continue to skyrocket over the long term.
You can't just ragequit and walk away from this. Iran wants terms and it has no incentive to accept anything less than EVERYTHING it wants. It has the US by the balls.

I'm not sure it has us by the balls, but it does have Asia by the balls at this point.
There's not much we can do except walk away at this point. We may as well go with the Bernie plan of a troop drawdown in the Middle East since our bases are already heavily damaged and our credibility is shot, maybe the silver lining is we'll save enough money from that to fund social programs at home under a Dem POTUS, and Europe and Asia will cut a deal with the IRGC to keep the goods flowing.
7
Guy_GuyGuyMay 1, 2026
+16
Europe and Asia won't be cutting any sort of deal other than paying whatever toll Iran asks to pass the Hormuz Strait as long as Iran finds those ships agreeable. For what reason would Iran want or need a deal with anyone other than the US?
The US and Israel were the sole aggressors of this conflict and Iran, backed in the shadows by Russia and China, have an incentive to keep laying the economic hurt on the US until it comes to the table like an adult and capitulates. What we have now is not a sustainable status quo. The US government and its megacorporations have been pulling every lever available to insulate the US public from the economic shitstorm this is causing and eventually they'll run out.

They like to have these cases wind their way through the court system in hopes that some judge will find a plausible-sounding ruling to justify whatever nonsense they want to do. The supreme court justices don't like having to put their names on the most egregious rulings if they can get someone else to do their dirty work.

When a war is started with no strategic aim, no specific goal, and purely based on bad intel from an ally, there isn’t a “win condition” there.
If you walk away without totally f****** it up, it’s about as much as you can hope for. More than we got, but best case is saving face with a return to status quo.

I think best case scenario for the region is Iran developing nuclear capabilities. It will balance Israel, especially if they implement and publicize their own version of the Sampson strategy. It’s unfortunate that this is the reality of the situation, but when an expansionist, fascist, settler colonial state backed by western imperialists keeps bombing their neighbors while threatening nuclear strikes and always projects a baseline strategy of “if we go, we’re taking everyone with us” via their secret, unregulated nuclear arsenal, I think the only move is to meet them head on to ensure any kind of stability in the region. I don’t think Likud is rabid enough to actually drop nuclear bombs (unless it’s executing the Sampson strategy, where I *do* think they’d be crazy enough to pull the trigger) on territory it wants to conquer, and the best strategy to get Netanyahu out is to bring everything to a standstill and not let him start foreign conflict. The lack of progress will lead to the Israelis forcing him out for either perceived weakness or by simply prosecuting/sentencing him for the corruption charges he’s had pending for years.

Alternatively: is the president allowed to have a 120-day conflict where we only fight on even dates but not odd?

It doesn't matter anyway because a judge can send him a sternly-worded letter to stop and he can just... ignore it and keep going.

And they just get away with it. Who is going to hold them accountable?
We officially have a non-functioning government, an essential feature of impending collapse.

🤣 Trump trying to TACO out even though he broke part of the world!
Still have three naval battle groups in the area enforcing a blockade! Plus we are trying to negotiate an end to this stupid war but he is saying it's over!
This Trump regime is peak stupidity!

Day 1 it’s a new different war so we don’t need approval

Stopping the war while not opening the strait.
What has the US achieved with this war besides making the Iranian regime stronger and more hardline?

This entire posture and stance contradicts itself before either can finish itself. Jesus Christ.
Set aside the War Powers gamesmanship for a second because there is a structural reality underneath it that is considerably more consequential than the legal question; which at this point doesn't even have any currency because Congress will not legislate to end this.
It's just by happenstance that the previous vote had a Republican defect, and then a Democrat join in for the vote? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? You get the drift.
If the US position is that hostilities have ended, then the Strait closure is no longer a war condition, it is the new normal. And if the Strait closure is the new normal rather than a temporary wartime disruption, then the US has structurally abdicated its role as the guarantor of global maritime freedom of navigation, which has been the foundational justification for American naval power since 1945.
You cannot simultaneously say the war is over and the Strait is still closed without conceding that the closure is something the United States has accepted rather than something it is working to resolve through the application of military force.
The forty nations that met recently. The restructuring of trade networks around the USA. Jesus Christ it's clear what it means to be the new "sick man", but it doesn't make it any less agonizing.

So the administration that said we were in a war that we weren't really in a war, that told us we won the war, that we weren't in, without providing the American people confirmation of what we won, is now telling us the war we really weren't in, but was a war, is over?

Not really sure it matters: our congress is about as useless as a c*** that doesn't extend past the balls. They could absolutely hold Trump accountable for the war, or demand it be disengaged, or any number of other things to check his power. But they won't. And as long as that's true, it really doesn't matter what excuse he provides for not following the law.
2
Horknut1May 1, 2026

None of this smoke and mirrors bullshit matters, because the Republicans are never going to hold this administration to account. So, with no checks and balances on the Administration, this deadline is moot.
The best the Democrats can do is to keep yelling about this, but no one's mind is changing. Everyone who supports Fuckwad will accept the excuse that there was a pause, or the war is over, or whatever daily bullshit they are spouting, and everyone who doesn't support this administration will keep screaming about checks and balances.
This country is just literally fucked when you have a Congress that is controlled by the same party as the President, and refuses to do their jobs. Imagine what's going to happen when the next Republican president is actually smart, as well and greedy and evil, and has just as corrupt a Congress as this one.

Do Republicans realize that the enemy gets a vote as well? Or are they hoping that any enemies inflamed by their actions will just forget and move on? This reminds me of another Republican who declared "Mission Accomplished" at the beginning of an 8+ year war.
