Gulf of Mexico folks. Not the Persian Gulf.

With DeSantis prioritizing farms over tourism causing red and green algblooms and the potential for another BP spill in the gulf, Florida is fucked.

jhill515 Mar 29, 2026 +93
DeSantis is like a Florida Man who manages the trailer park HOA, but one of the residents happens to be on the town council that supercedes the HOA. So as a disgruntled, power-hungry, self-entitled Florida Man governing Florida, this seems to track: F*** it all, especially their own yards!

All the dumb f*** old heads that moved to Florida to get away from higher tax states are about to find out why tourists were so important.

Floridas been so badly managed they will no longer be a donor state next year. They were already contributing amounts equivalent to Delaware and Colorado.

raptearer Mar 29, 2026 +5
Wait what do you mean by this?
5
MrBrawn Mar 29, 2026 +21
By and large red states take in more federal dollars than that give. Florida and Texas are notable exceptions, for now.

raptearer Mar 29, 2026 +4
Oh okay, I knew of that concept but never had heard of it referenced as a donat state, thought it may be about organ donors, tanks for clarifying

BalianofReddit Mar 29, 2026 +8
Florida in on borrowed time anyway How long before the majority of it is feet below sea level? Wont be spending much on anything other than flood defence and disaster recovery.

I just love that now it's not a big deal to call it "Gulf of Mexico" in the news... Since Trump has literally forgotten about renaming it to the Gulf of America, since that was more than 3 weeks ago.

Khaldara Mar 29, 2026 +17
“Gulf of America remember? Because it was a super easy way to get our pet stupids to forget about us robbing them blind with the tariffs they begged for!”

Typical hypocrisy. They claim to be saving the birds and animals from the insidious wind farms, but then want to kill the birds and animals with oil instead.
158
AuelDole Mar 29, 2026 +32
Wind farms cause a relatively quick, relatively pain free death. Oil spills are the opposite, they clog the gills, lungs, and digestive tract. Causing the animal to uselessly waste away. It’s always about causing the most amount of pain for these people

Le-Cigare-Volant Mar 30, 2026 +1
Specifically, they want to kill the Rice's whale. There are fewer than 100 left. Their habit is in the gulf of MEXICO.

eskay233 Mar 29, 2026 +371
US: So, our plan to kill a bunch of people went wrong. So now, we need to kill a bunch of animals to make up for it. Why? So we can extract planet killing juice.

Slypenslyde Mar 29, 2026 +83
Who's to say both things weren't part of the same plan? GOAL: remove regulations that make it harder to expand our resource harvesting SOLUTION: start a global energy crisis and destroy our trade relations to make domestic resource harvesting the only option left

Iamjacksplasmid Mar 29, 2026 +31
Like all narcissistic partners, Trump is gradually destroying our relationships with anyone else so that he's the only thing we've got. Pretty much straight out of that playbook, just at a global scale.

Too bad it is "totally impossible" to widely install rooftop solar with battery backups at residential areas in the warmer states, increasing grid resilience & functionally eliminating peak grid loading in the summer months, allowing for greater reliance on higher efficiency base-load power facilities rather than peaker plants. By golly, if only it were possible for some of those batteries to be networked to allow them to be used strategically for grid balancing, which would actually make it possible for batteries to replace the construction of at least some of the peaker plants... Oh wait, that's exactly what's happening in some places already. Too bad it is a secret... No, no wait, that's not right either... Huh. Well, I guess it is just too hard and the secret group of smart folks in a room decided that destroying the world at an accelerated rate was the best we could get. Guess I'll just go die then.

As a Mariner, we aren't out here aiming to kill a bunch of animals. In fact, fish love platforms

There are whales on those waters who's numbers are less than 100. Ignoring them will cause them to go extinct.

This regime is just giving everything to big oil.    The deep water horizon incident severely damaged  the oyster industry in apalachicola Florida.  I guess the want to finish the job throughout the entire Gulf of Mexico.

xdeltax97 Mar 29, 2026 +24
The ONE thing you don’t f*** Florida about is the gulf, especially after Deepwater
24
birdpix Mar 29, 2026 +12
Amen. I once took the ferry into Mobile Bay and about cried at all the oil sheets or worse pollution. It was filthy and sad. At the shore, all the rocks were stained from oil. Yeah, lets ruin Florida all the way. /s

Ok so poison our coastlines and kill tourism because… Bibi led Trump into a war, Trump and his pals are regarded and went along with it? Now all the things we said would happen are happening and we pay the price? F*** that. Trump has made billions in corruption since he took office. Take the money from his family, not mine. It’s his fault and the GOPs fault we are in this mess. I never voted for them, and I never will again. They failed as a political party, abandoned democracy, abandoned the people, and is filled with outright traitors and oath-breakers. TLDR: why am I paying the price for someone else’s treason?

"I'm a vegan, except like when I just want a grilled cheese or a burger or something" If you get exemptions whenever you feel like it, then the law doesn't actually exist. This is yet another attempt at stripping away Congressional powers and handing them over to our authoritarian Executive.

No-Weakness-2035 Mar 29, 2026 +5
Maybe, instead, DOJ and FBI should release the Epstein files. Oh and stop the war in Iran yesterday.

RLewis8888 Mar 29, 2026 +4
Next they'll ask for exemptions for bullets.

Just kill off all species if it makes millionaires into billionaires ! Even humans if necessary ! That’s the plan of corporate America. Low to middle income families will suffer ! Congrats MAGA !

Thankfully our dear leader is also protecting us from wind farms

Anything to make a buck. That's the whole point of existing: make money. Right?
2
Elaerona Mar 29, 2026 +2
Oh but don't worry. They're worried about the whales if it's regarding a wind turbine farm, which is where the actual growth in energy is happening.

MrBahhum Mar 30, 2026 +1
Apparently the Gulf of America has been leaking oil for sometime now.
1
Le-Cigare-Volant Mar 30, 2026 +1
The Trump administration wants to exterminate the fewer than 100 Rice's Whales in the gulf of Mexico. All so ships carrying oil don't have to slow down or adjust their course to avoid the whale's habitat.
1
invalidpassword Mar 30, 2026 +1
The oil companies have to feed their shareholders afterall. If entire species go extinct, so be lt.

Trump just wants to destroy everything. He must be stopped.

IvanTortuga Mar 29, 2026 +1
I hope we are able to throw off the shackles of this administration and the billionaires that enable it. Otherwise when the world ecologically and politically collapses it's not going to end like some fairly tale movie where they magically find the answer in the 3rd act.
