Alot of people in the US are uneducated, ignorant and scared. Its how people like trump gain power.

I work with 5 people that 100% believe it, regurgitate it, and live by Trump's every word. I laugh at them every chance I get & remind them that teachers can't get kids to sit down or do their homework but convincing them to chop off their genitals is easy as pie.

It's one of the 5 things scammers do, and honestly it seems to work really well for them. Basically anything with kids makes these parents freak out because they want a child to be the way they want their child to be making these claims makes a lot of parents freak out. I have had 3 people so far tell me this is why they are voting GOP and Trump.

I honestly don't know, everything about his cult seems to come back to the majority of Americans basically being cattle with no critical thinking skills.

Because they need to. It's bad faith. They don't believe things that then motivate their actions. They want to do certain things to other people and then believe things to justify and moralize what they already wanted to do anyway. So when the things they want to do become more and more extreme, they need to believe more and more insane narratives to justify them. "The other "needs to be evil so as to justify whatever it is "we" want to do to them. The alternative is to acknowledge their moral responsibility for all the reprehensible things they did or supported. This is a basic component to reactionary thought, where the violence and oppression required to maintain a social hierarchy is justified by also constructing a moral hierarchy and then believe it. Some people can do no wrong because of who they are, whereas harm to others is always justified since they are evil or immoral because of who they are. The reasoning behind it is insane, but that's not the point. The point is that it fits what they feel and want to do. Because the emotions involved in the process are real, they lend authenticity to the narrative facade, no matter how insane or contradictory it is. So you end up with what you see: people who can do no wrong in their own eyes identify with a party and a leader who can then do no wrong by that same definition. They then have to increasingly twist reality and morality around that absolute as their need to blame others for their choices becomes more and more acute. All the rhetoric, all the ideological constructs, are simply facades to excuse what they want to do anyway, and to that end can be modified as required. They are functionally immoral and irrational because of that, which is why there is no bottom to their behaviour and, conversely, no end to the insanity.

the scary and sad thing is people do believe it. my grandmother in law was concerned that my daughter could be getting taught about gender reassignment in highschool and was asking her privately if teachers are talking to her and other students about it. my daughter told me perplexed like no grandma.. never. Why are you asking? Just the average person in the area has higher than average education, higher than average income, and there’s still people that just buy into this right wing propaganda mill.

Propaganda outlets like Facebook and Fox News. Mix in disinformation, bot networks, and defunding education and this is what you end up with.

It aligns with the American Christian values, so they of course believe it without proof because it comes from their lord and savior Donald j trumps mouth.

I wish more Democrats had the balls to actually take on the argument. The actual argument is that your child is a human who is allowed to make decisions about their own life even if you disagree. I would love it if we would take on the despotic parenting that so many of these conservatives believe in. Your child is NOT an extension of you, they are a full fledged individual with their own individual rights. I get so frustrated when people argue "Im their parent I know whats best for them".
