oh boy a situation room meeting. this will definitely help
407
CuteKermit14 Apr 18, 2026 +126
Given that a situation room meeting is what led to all this, I do not think it will matter.
126
wet-rabbit Apr 18, 2026 +49
They are probably weighing to invade Cuba at this point. Could use the distraction. I wish I was kidding.
49
Sleepingguitarman Apr 18, 2026 +18
That'd be the dumbest distraction plan ever, but i also wouldn't put it past them. The logic behind it would be incredibly faulty though. "Americans and most of the world are pissed at us over this war, and your approval rating is dropping boss! Perhaps we should distract them about this with another war!"
18
RocketRelm Apr 18, 2026 +15
This but unironically. Americans could have elected a prosperous democrat to fix things, but like a drug addict chasing a new high, they reelected trump to cure their boredom and to sate their greed for a promised utopia Right Now. They'll say and believe they're mad at this, but it is good horror movie style entertainment for the average nonvoter.
15
Sleepingguitarman Apr 18, 2026 +7
Yeah i live in a primarily red city and it's been so frustrating at times to try and get through to friends/extended family. One or two people close to me have become more aware of things, and i think might vote D in the upcoming elections, but god help me when i try to talk to some of the others. It's straight up delusional thinking for some of these people.
7
CharlestonChewChewie Apr 18, 2026 +3
They've been blockading Cuba for months. It's only a matter of time

More like shituation at this point. Almost the entire world brought to a standstill because of one man’s fragile ego.
23
IIIllIIlllIlII Apr 18, 2026 +19
Whenever he’s done anything wrong in the past, he pushes it to the courts, and drags it out. Even with his presidential actions, he pushes it into the court system, and most of his presidential actions have been protected by his cronies. But this is completely new. There is no court system in international warfare that he can use to escape this. This is all on him. He started it, and he cannot finish it.

I think you’re even more correct than you think. His whole administration is so incompetent, and trying to do so many things previous administrations wouldn’t dream of, that I believe they are quietly shaking in their boots and panicking, while all the while they are publicly acting confident.

Marco's asleep
6
Betty_Boss Apr 18, 2026 +13
Marco understands what is going on. Makes it worse that he is still following orders. Even wearing shoes that are too big because the boss told him to.
13
cosmicrae Apr 18, 2026 +4
Marco is 4th in line, after Vance, Johnson and Grassley. He is waiting to see if his dance card is called.
4
PleasantWay7 Apr 19, 2026 +2
He just wants to get onto the Cuba invasion.
2
watch_out_4_snakes Apr 18, 2026 +34
They gave him the off-ramp and he fucked it up. He’s so incompetent he couldn’t even take the got damn out that they gave him.
34
Fair-Lecture-1554 Apr 18, 2026 +16
Exactly, he can't cut his losses since he'll then be the total b**** we all know he is, yet he's also desperate for a deal, so he'll make one and then try to add something on top, like keeping to Iranian port blockade in place, which doesnt fly.  It's like an ancient parable that the Trump card against Trump would be his own ego leading him down this path.
16
kombiwombi Apr 19, 2026 +2
All Trump had to do was text Bibi: "Lebanon is part of the deal, as much as a bullet -- even from a settler --  and you don't see another Patriot." Edit: Unlike many here I don't think Trump was incapable of sending such a message. My more basic question was where *was* Trump in what turned out to be the vital few hours of the war so far?
2
dropkickninja Apr 18, 2026 +102
Trump has got to go. Now
102
Khaldara Apr 18, 2026 +72
The ‘Art of the deal’ in action, a bunch of needlessly dead people and a strait we have to pay for that we didn’t have to before. Conservatives are the dumbest humans to ever walk upright.
72
BoppityBop2 Apr 18, 2026 +3
Cool, but what this the goal. To end this conflict quickly US will have to surrender in many key demands to Iran and prep for the future if it does not want to be bogged down
3
dropkickninja Apr 18, 2026 +4
He started this stupid war and it is going to cost America. He is a failure as a human and president. Time to cut him off and move on. He had a chance to do this the right way but he killed it because he's a racist narcissist. His failures will hurt America, can't change that now.
4
BoppityBop2 Apr 18, 2026 +2
Cool but even if he leaves someone has to sign a peace deal with Iran and surrender on alot of terms to move on. Whoever does that will be raked over the coals for doing so.
2

*Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office Saturday, Trump said Iran "got a little cute ... they wanted to close up the Strait again," and later added that the nation "can't blackmail us."* Blackmail? What an idiot.

Jesus you can literally watch his brain rot away further by the minute...
20

12

How did they go from agreeing to everything—EVERYTHING I tell you—on Friday, to shooting on Saturday?
12
Wanna_make_cash Apr 18, 2026 +3
Market opens and close in the answer
3
Yvaelle Apr 19, 2026 +2
The Iranian Foreign Minister said on Friday afternoon that he doesn't know who Trump was negotiating with, but it wasn't Iran. Trump made it up, and the market believed him, again.
2
FlyingDiscsandJams Apr 18, 2026 +3
He called for forced regime change in his ibogaine press conference, not sure that's gonna help negotiations.
3
tim_dude Apr 18, 2026 +61
"iran has no cards" - Iran's biggest play is Trump's ego. They know he needs and wants a "win" in this war, so they can jerk him around until he's on his knees begging them
61
Financial_Weather_35 Apr 18, 2026 +31
this is such a bizarre war
31
Better-Strategy8798 Apr 18, 2026 +11
The lego meme videos from Iran really solidify this being a bizarre war haha. Modern warfare also includes... memes... on both sides.
11
tim_dude Apr 18, 2026 +6
That's just propaganda war. Every war had one
6
Fair-Lecture-1554 Apr 18, 2026 +6
One for the books.
6
dern_the_hermit Apr 19, 2026 +2
Can't wait for the movies that come out about this: *It's A Weird, Weird, Weird, Weird War*
2
ItsNotMe_ImNotHere Apr 18, 2026 +8
And now Trump needs 2 off-ramps. One to remove the blockade and one to get a deal with Iran which looks at least as good as Obama's (which he cancelled). Until he can satisfy his ego the "war" continues.
8
VapidActualization Apr 18, 2026 +8
It doesn't need to look as good. He just personally needs Iran to show him face and let him pretend to have "solved" the problem. But they aren't incentivized to do that in the current situation. Furthermore, he has spurned so many allies along the way that he will struggle to get any pressure placed on Iran internationally which might help them want to bring this to an end. Basically, he has to find a way to garner support from the UN to put Iran in a bad place financially OR somehow find a way to bring them under hand with military might. But we've seen what the best funded military is capable of under the ultimate command of several absolutely incompetent people; we look weak as f*** without the leadership necessary to actually get reaults. He can't even get them to chill out by giving them an obscene amount of money because they are happy to let America throw away all the credibility it has earned in both soft and hard power over the last 150 years.
8
Master-Monk-8690 Apr 18, 2026 +37
It's almost like he just lies about everything. Wait it's exactly like that, and the media has normalized him for over a decade.  He kicked them out for asking about his fake ceasefire after Iran closed the strait and issued a statement.
37
redditobserverone Apr 18, 2026 +14
Simple follow ups. ‘Who did you speak to that agreed to everything? Since the objectives were never identified and announced prior to the war can you identify what the U.S. objectives are and which objectives have been won? If their military capabilities were completely decimated shortly after the excursion began, how are they shooting? Do you worry that nobody in the world fears or respects you or believes a single word that comes out of your mouth?
14
Master-Monk-8690 Apr 18, 2026 +13
Yup.  He can't handle real questions, even simple ones. He is absolutely full of shit and always has been. The media has failed the American people by normalizing this fool.
13
jimbarino Apr 18, 2026 +9
>The media has failed the American people by normalizing this fool. The "media" is almost exclusively own by right-wing billionaires. Trillions have been spent explicitly so that the media says what they want them to say.
9
Inside-Chipmunk-6412 Apr 18, 2026 +19
Only sensible diplomacy built around a legal agreement is going to fix this. Shouting, changing your mind every day means this will be prolonged resulting in a global economic disaster.

I don’t get this new development. Iran closed the Strait. Trump threw a tantrum. Trump closed Iran’s closure. Iran opened the Strait. Trump did not open the closure. Iran re-closed the Strait. What’s the need for an f’n situation room meeting? It’s just up to Orange Man to open the Strait 🤷🏽‍♂️
2
Blahblahman23 Apr 18, 2026 +2
I smell a new truth social post “Open the fuckin straight or else I’m going to use a nuclear bomb to kill the entire country!! All of you are going to hell tonight! Praise be Allah. President Donald J Trump”

2

And now he's buggered off to play golf. Hopefully him not being around will mean something sensible gets done.
2
No_Iron_8087 Apr 18, 2026 +2
Did nobody on his team think to consider that by trying to destabilise an already fragile nation, that that nation could end up fracturing through political infighting? Like, did they just take Ghalibaf and Araghchi at their word? Did they bother to look at internal Iranian politics and the IRGC’s long feud with domestic diplomacy? Did they not reach out to Vahidi? This is crazy stupid stuff, even for the Trump admin
