This is actually the core belief that underpins MAGA. It mostly manifests in MAGA's racism, but the 'supremacy' part of MAGA's white supremacy kinda explains all the other bulshit they do too. From our foreign policy of tariffs and attacking countries, to our domestic infights Trump, this administration and every day MAGA's basic worldview is 'f*** you I'm inherently better than you so you do as I say'.

"Republicans used to stand for-" No. No they didn't. What is now called Reaganomics was the intended platform of the Republican party as far back as the 50s, they just didn't know how to sell it to the public until Reagan himself. And even if you go as far back as the Civil War, when Republicans were an abolishment movement, they still had HEAVY patronizing views towards blacks and freedmen, and work beliefs in general. They were against slavery more due to the sex trafficking aspects, rather than the bone-breaking ones. Which is the reason why the primary split in politics (until the "Southern Strategy" implemented BY REPUBLICANS was enacted to unify pro-Jim Crowe politicians with Republican interests) was between Northern Democrats and Southern Democrats. Republicans were a political minority until they allied themselves with the ever-shrinking "Dixiecrats" and thus cementing the national split between Democrats and Republicans.

that is *exactly* it. >"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect" i've heard this being called Wilhoit's law, but i've also heard it's incorrectly attributed to him. either way- it fits conservatism today to a T. you see it in all those Trump rally interviews done left wing influencers or daily show correspondents. they will show unlimited Grace to Trump when he fucks up, but when dems do the same or far less, it's inconceivably corrupt.
102
Kalatash Mar 26, 2026 +39
Yeah, it is typically attributed to Francias Wilholt, who was a political scientist. But it was actually coined by Frank Wilholt, a completely different person. Seriously, I'm not making that up.

Liberalism is also objectively opposite arbitrary authority. Modern conservatism is antithetical to American values.
13
ragingreaver Mar 26, 2026 +18
Welcome to the term "neoliberalism." Before 1930s, Liberalism was considered a left-wing ideal, as it directly went against the interests of literal landed nobility and the binding of land to bloodline titles. This meant it included a large number of different political affiliations, since "landed nobles are bad for economic growth" was pretty much proven by economic research even back then. But after the 1930s, liberalism as a whole was dead in the water. The populace very much liked the welfare brought by the New Deal, and the horrors of WW2 meant NOBODY liked elitism anymore. A mass wave of left-leaning politicians swept the world over, and the public was solidly pro-reform. So the only way for traditional power bases to survive, was to co-op leftist thought and movement. Results varied across the world, but here in the united states we got "neoliberalism" which was allegedly pro-equality but still had the goal of spreading fiscal austerity. It is one of the big reasons why boomers don't believe in "handouts" or high taxes: fiscal austerity itself was propagandized to be "the politics of the aged and informed." Of course nowadays pretty much all economic research points to fiscal austerity, and all its forms, to be economically inferior. High welfare and public spending paid with high taxes, are just GOOD THINGS that keep people housed, fed, clothed, and educated. It brings ACTUAL equality*.* Which, incidentally, is why *modern liberalism* supports these measures, while neoliberalism does not. And is the central conflict among democrats, who think neoliberalism and modern liberalism are in the same political sphere.
18
Rombledore Mar 26, 2026 +8
ive always heard the two terms neoliberalism and liberalism, but never would see an explanation of the difference. thanks for clarifying
8
ragingreaver Mar 26, 2026 +9
Yeah, that confusion and ambiguity is deliberate. Epstein, Musk and all of the Palantir bros (*especially* Peter Thiel) were all publicly *democrats*: their true political beliefs always aligned with *neoliberalism.* The Democrat Party *always* presented itself as the "party of neoliberalism" which lead to a LOT of billionaires and high-profile investments. Still does, to this day, and Democrat leadership even now continues to fight against progressive efforts because they don't want to lose that status. Also, it isn't just liberals themselves who don't understand the difference. I live deep in MAGA country, where "independent" talk radio still survives, and is full of right-wing nutjobs. When they aren't being rampant racists/mysogynists, they are *accurately* reporting on moves done by the federal government, and *accurately* mention how neoliberal Democrat appointees have fucked over rural areas and abandoned them. The problem is that they conflate neoliberalism with your average highschool liberal, and damn both for being "servants of oppression." And, you know, ignoring all the Republican offenses and collusion with said neoliberal appointees. But it does mean you can get a foot in the door with even a few of the more crazed MAGA by also decrying neoliberalism.

The conservative mindset is all about hierarchy.
46
philosoraptocopter Mar 26, 2026 +7
Bingo, and not just hierarchy for its own sake; a hierarchy that *coincidentally and by total chance* lands them at the top. In fact, I firmly believe now that conservativism itself is really JUST a mindset. And that mindset is: baseline selfishness. Just take a conservative’s demographics (race, religion, gender sexuality, etc.) and that alone decides which side of the debate they pick, at least more readily than anyone else. In any subject. Zero knowledge or deeper logic is needed. No matter how unfair or complex the situation is. If they’re in the majority and the question is over the mistreatment a minority, literally any kind of minority, the likelihood that their answer comes down automatically favoring their own side is just so blatant.

8
TheGreatDay Mar 26, 2026 +8
I mean, the central part of the ideological project that is conservatism is figuring out either how to bring back the monarchy or how to assert the monarchy unofficially. The way they do it right now is basically what has been described - Trump is King and can do as he wants. His buddies can also do what they want, even if his buddies can change on his whim from moment to moment. 2nd to that is that conservatives believe in a strict hierarchy, essentially a caste system with minimal ability to move between levels. And yeah, they think that the world basically has to just eat shit and do as they say. It's why you can't negotiate with these people, that they are impossibly bad at governing.
8
JakeConhale Mar 26, 2026 +5
What gets me is that such an idea inherently requires one to also exist at their particular location in the hierarchy. Now, I know I'm no Steve Wozniak or Stephen King or Steve McQueen, but the idea that I am just X and can never be more than that rankles.

If anyone wants to know the mind of "the greatest president probably ever," you need not look any farther than how a 6 year old child operates. Whines and wants a present when another kid gets one? Check. Quick to accuse another of doing something wrong while doing something wrong? Check. Talks about other people lying, but is constantly lying? Check. Gets angry and pouts or retaliates when you call them out on doing anything they shouldn't be doing-lying, cheating? Check Source: my 6 year old nephew

When Kansas did this exact same model with less restrictions that allowed for proof my mail, it dis-enfranchised 31,000 voters. 28 of them were non-citizens. Thats .0028% of all “fraud” it took care of, in exchange to cancel out 3% of the total voters in Kansas. Kansas has 4 house districts, so that’s 7 votes per Congressperson for “fraud” To let you know how small that is, Republicans won those 4 house seats by 545,000 votes in 2012. With requiring a $180 passport and all in-person proof, that could go to 5-6% of voters. Just what the GOP need to win the mid-terms. This is Putin Russia type voter suppression.

rdyoung Mar 26, 2026 +248
It's actually amazing (not really). He has done literally nothing that other presidents have done. He doesn't show up to the polls to vote in person (and energize anyone), he can't show up at a disaster (if he does) without being front and center and not even pretending to help. Note that I am not bothered by the people who are supposed to be in charge, staying back and being in charge. My problem is with this generation of republicans not even showing up to try and help their people, if they show up it's so the cameras can catch their flag pins and maga hats.

This. It was common to see sitting Presidents pose for media photos after leaving the voting booth. Given a special election I could see a president less likely to bother to vote in person, but the notion that being president means you don't have time to vote in person is such a stupid argument because so many presidents have done so.

NoSwimmers45 Mar 26, 2026 +67
Yes. The rules vary by state but in many places felons recover the right to vote.
67
Chief_Mischief Mar 26, 2026 +67
>Yes. The rules vary by state but in many places felons recover the right to vote. It is like this in Florida, but nearly 750,000 Florida citizens cannot vote despite serving their term. Why? Because they have not fully paid court fees, fines, restitution, etc. In other words, these eligible voters cannot register to vote because of financial obligations (poll tax).
67
PotentialAnt9670 Mar 26, 2026 +14

11
view-master Mar 26, 2026 +8
In Florida only after they have served their time, which he hasn’t. Also there is an unrelated provision saying that if it’s a crime if a sexual nature you don’t get your right to vote back. Thats all it says. So I would think technically he shouldn’t be able to since he hasn’t served time. The governor can give clemency to restore it though so that may have been done.
8
Smaynard6000 Mar 26, 2026 +6
The felonies that Trump was convicted of were financial crimes, not sexual assault, and he wasn't sentenced to any jail time or anything else, really. He never lost his right to vote.

After saying he voted by mail because he's president and he can, then he said there are "exceptions" for mail in votes. Military, ok, that should be a given. Then he rambled on if you are sick, not feeling good, on vacation, busy at work, all are exceptions in his mind. But in what world does he think there will be some way to check/verify each excuse for needing a mail in ballot. My guess is all R votes will be deemed an acceptable excuse, and any D votes will be deemed not valid. The whole thing is he's convincing America to fix a system that isn't broken/works and has been the crux of his political career. When I win its a landslide, when I lose it was rigged/cheating. And a huge portion of America believes him.
5
gwsth Mar 26, 2026 +8
Keep in mind that this is far from the first time that Trump openly admits that he believes the rules should be different for him just because of who he is. He used the exact same line at a CNN town hall during the last campaign. Stephen Miller openly admits that a lot of the things they're doing they do because they can and nobody can do anything about it. One of the issues with taking on the schoolyard bully is that if you try to stand up to the bully and fail, the bullying just gets worse because you've confirmed you can't do anything about it. That's where we're at with Trump. Our society has shown that we collectively are either unable or unwilling to do anything about it, so Trump is acting accordingly.

I checked chat GPT. If you are a convicted felon in another state, you can still cast a vote in Florida. If you are a felon convicted in the State of Florida you cannot cast one. However, trump did not mail it in, he had an assistant or aid of some sort hand deliver it. Which is illegal. It is called ballot harvesting.

How can a felon vote?
1
Dolo_Hitch89 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Good question. A lot of people are confused about how Trump was able to vote in Florida despite being a convicted felon, so here’s the explanation. Voting eligibility is determined by the state where you’re registered, which in this case is Florida. Florida law says that for out-of-state felony convictions, they defer to the law of the state where the conviction happened. So the real question is: would New York allow him to vote? In New York, you only lose your voting rights if you are currently incarcerated for a felony. If you are not in prison (including if you’re awaiting sentencing, on probation, or received no prison time), you are allowed to vote. Trump is not incarcerated. So under New York law, he would be eligible to vote. Because of that, Florida recognizes him as eligible as well. That’s why he was able to vote.

Well, apparently the Republican candidate lost in the district where Moron-A-Lago is located. So maybe the local (probably right wing) election officials didn't count his mail in ballot because it came in from out of state, delayed by Louis DeJoyless's fucked up Postal Service. Sure, that's all complete speculation. But somebody should tell Cheeto that's the reason the Democrats won the seats in Florida, just so he can have a tantrum about it.

"Trump spent the second weekend of early voting, March 20 through March 22, at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach."
3
pxland Mar 26, 2026 +3
Wait, isn’t he a felon?
3
WhiteSalamancer Mar 26, 2026 +3
Hahaha the rubes will accept this without question
3
lycanter Mar 26, 2026 +3
If they making voting by mail illegal he will still do it with the same rational. Probably send in a crayon ballot with a secret service e*****.
3
ich_bin_alkoholiker Mar 26, 2026 +3
“It’s not illegal when the president does it.” Sound familiar?
3
bing-bong-forever Mar 26, 2026 +3
F****** p****. Obama voted in person and even flirted with a woman and almost got into a “fight” with her boyfriend haha. Legend.
3
rdmodsrtrsh Mar 26, 2026 +3
I'm the president, if the president does it, it's not illegal...... right
3
Illustrious_Emu5131 Mar 26, 2026 +3
"Rules for thee but not for me."
3
SOMEONENEW1999 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Everything with him starts with him being better than everyone else. He thinks he is US royalty and has special rights over the rest of us…
3
luv2ctheworld Mar 26, 2026 +3
I'm special, and you're not. That, MAGAt, is who you voted for. Rules don't apply to him. And you think he actually cares about you.
3
Western_Practice_459 Mar 26, 2026 +3
F*** this guy
3
CombustiblePantaloon Mar 26, 2026 +3
F*** him and f*** his shitty fascist supporters
3
Auerbach1991 Mar 26, 2026 +3
He’s just a lazy piece of shit that thinks he’s better than everyone and rules simply don’t apply. Can’t wait until he…you know. World-wide party.
3
LivingIntelligent968 Mar 26, 2026 +3
So the mother and father of a couple of kids, who are already working full and part time jobs ,with no affordable daycare, aren’t busy enough. Since when did golfing count as an essential activity prohibiting you from voting. What about your stripper wife and psycho looking kid Lurch voting by mail?
3
JayTNP Mar 26, 2026 +3
There is literal video of Obama voting in person as president and having a hilarious interaction with voters. Trump is of course full of shit
3
AceofKnaves44 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Remember when Obama voted in person and some dude told him Obama not to hit on his girl and Obama turned it into a really fun moment that showed off his charm and class?
3
Leisurely_Creative Mar 26, 2026 +3
He is the only proof I need there is no god
3
Own-Coyote-3618 Mar 26, 2026 +3
He's a felon, he shouldn't even be allowed to votem
3
bozzeak Mar 26, 2026 +3
He hates mail-in ballots but then does one himself when it makes his life easier..typical “rules for the but not for me” conservative bullshit
3
CrunchyAssDiaper Mar 26, 2026 +3
I dislike him greatly, but every now and then I think of a perfect response for him. He should just say "While I greatly disagree with mail-in votes, because it welcomes cheating, I'll use it because it's convenient. Just like how I think owners of beauty pageants shouldn't be allowed to enter changing rooms where children are changing, but because there isn't a rule in place, I'll take a peek."
3
HOSTfromaGhost Mar 26, 2026 +3
Oh, f*** that tangerine t***.
3
Jeromes_Pornostache Mar 26, 2026 +3
I actually agree that the President should cast their vote by mail.  It would be a major interruption to arrange for him to attend a public voting place to do it in person.  All other voting activities would come to a halt. However, this guy is still a piece of shit because he’s trying to make it illegal for everyone else.  That is the part that is bullshit.
3
Piccoroz Mar 26, 2026 +3
The most illegal president ever
3
Renatusisk Mar 26, 2026 +3
Because I am King. Wake the f*** up America.
3

3
Potential-Run-8391 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Yeah, listen here piggies
3
GeekyTexan Mar 26, 2026 +3
I don't believe people are complaining that he voted by mail. People are complaining that he's being a hypocrite by voting by mail while bitching about other people voting by mail.
3
Chemical-Fault-7331 Mar 26, 2026 +3
He might as well just say "Because f*** you". Really does carry the same effect.
3
FourWhiteBars Mar 26, 2026 +3
The reason it’s never been difficult for Trump to basically act like a king is because his voter base doesn’t understand what Presidents actually do. They don’t understand how the government works. They just think that there’s nothing higher than President, and once you’re President you call the shots. So whenever he does some unilateral, illegal thing, or whenever he behaves in a way that he says others can’t, he just sort of gets away with it in their eyes because they’re literally so f****** clueless about how anything works
3
Conscious_Exit_9129 Mar 26, 2026 +3
When the president does it it's not cheating. - Richard Nixon
3
Otisthedog999 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Only his voting rights matter.
3
Yelloeisok Mar 26, 2026 +3
Does that mean the rest of his family is president too?
3
KingBanhammer Mar 26, 2026 +3
"Rules for thee but not for me" is pretty much on-theme for him.
3
blipsman Mar 27, 2026 +3
Wait isn’t he a convicted felon?
3
rentboy1690 Mar 27, 2026 +3
He’s the most insufferable prick that’s ever walked this planet.
3
BronzeRider Mar 27, 2026 +3
Proof that Republicans don’t believe there is any mail-in voter fraud. It’s all just lies. Granted everyone with more than 2 functioning brain cells should have already realized that by now, after the last decade of nothing but Republican lies. But maybe this time those with 2 brain cells or less will get the message?
3
Appropriate-Welder68 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Do as I say, not as I do.

4
AcanthisittaNo6653 Mar 26, 2026 +3
If he had gone to FL, campaigned for his guy, and voted in person, it may have produced a different outcome. Instead, his guy loses, the Dems prevail, and he's left justifying why he didn't make the effort.. Seems to me the Dems win twice.

It's going to be hard to get much closer to a literal "Rules for thee..." moment. I'm sure we'll get there in a couple days.
2

Clown.
2
andyraylan Mar 26, 2026 +2

Joe Biden should have cast 50 million ballots for Kamala Harris “because [he’s] president”
2
Avoidtolls Mar 26, 2026 +2
F*** you...that's why.
2
User4C4C4C Mar 26, 2026 +2
The president should be the example for others to follow, not the exception to the rule.
2
Gold_Drummer_4077 Mar 26, 2026 +2
so...the FLA election board sends one ballot to the only person in the country that's allowed to vote absentee? Does anybody have the number to DOGE?
2
bananastand512 Mar 26, 2026 +2
He'll literally fly to MAL to play 18 holes but can't fathom going in person to vote. Chode.

This f****** guy, man.
2
Yubat Mar 26, 2026 +2
If there was a single thought in his head beyond his own wants, he might be able to see that lots of people have “lots of different things” which prevent them from voting in person. If there was a single thought in his followers heads beyond feckless loyalty, fear, and hatred, they might be able to see how Trump will always consider himself above them, and how he will happily sacrifice them to get want he wants.

2

He's as infallible as the Pope. In fact he is the real Pope.
2
NeverLookBothWays Mar 26, 2026 +2
And? A president has no authority or privilege over us...he's essentially just the executor of congressional bills and decisions. That's it. That's his only purpose.
2
eggroll85 Mar 26, 2026 +2
When you're president, they let you do it
2
carlboykin Mar 26, 2026 +2
Once again. You would have to be the dumbest m*********** on earth to think this guy cares about you.
2

Every accusation is an admission!
2
MadAstrid Mar 26, 2026 +2
He also did it when he was not president, but that was ok because of “reasons”.
2
Brobeast Mar 26, 2026 +2
And this RIGHT tf there is why trump crawls under my skin with the shit he pulls.. Reminds me of my damn father... Anytime that f***** got caught in a moral hypocrisy, it always started and ended with "well, im your father so I can do xyz"... F***** always had that response hanging in his pocket...
2
Kind-Philosopher5077 Mar 26, 2026 +2
That pedophile is right, its the president.
2
PresentAwareness745 Mar 26, 2026 +2

2
Thebritishdovah Mar 26, 2026 +2
A ki... A president that has to remind people he is president is no president at all. That and he is literally not my president. *Sighs* just look at my username before any idiots attack me.
2
