The cruelty is the point. This Administration is fueled by hate.

And most of the hate fueling them comes directly from Stephen Miller. That guy is a very big problem for the world but people keep ignoring him because he’s a sneaky little worm who hides in Trump’s shadow and uses the chaos to shield himself and his evil little plans.

Do you think after this these kids will be loyal to the nation when grown up? Probably

This is where immigration enforcement stops being an abstract policy debate and starts having very real consequences for citizens themselves. Once families are mixed-status, actions aimed at one group inevitably spill over to another.

Trump campaigned on this. They called these kids "anchor babies" and that's the entire reason they want to get rid of birthright citizenship (which is enshrined in the Constitution).
If they had their way, the kids wouldn't be citizens either and they could deport the whole family. They actually hate the fact that they can't deport the kids too, because they're citizens via birthright.

Where did it stop being an abstract policy debate? At 2x?

Not OP so not saying this is what they meant, but I would imagine it stops being "abstract" the moment it impacts the voter in any way. Especially if they are not particularly empathetic

Children have a right to access their parents.

"Conservatives": "It's *so* important that children grow up in a nuclear family with a mummy and a daddy!"
Also "Conservatives": I don't care if that little brat cries itself to sleep tonight because our heroic brownshirts dragged their mummy or daddy to a torture camp. Should have thought of that before they were born to an immigrant"

**Reporting Highlights**
*More Moms Deported:* An exclusive data analysis found Trump has deported moms of U.S. citizens at four times the rate of his predecessor.
*Left Stranded:* Because American-born kids can’t legally join their parents in immigration detention, some end up with friends or strangers when their parents are detained or deported.
*New Directive:* Trump administration officials revised a document advising how ICE officers should interact with parents, removing the word “humane.”
*These highlights were written by the reporters and editors who worked on this story.*

The GOP, the “family” party.
And you’re not family!

Leave it to Conservatives to figure out how to use an already broken foster care system as a way to traffic children.

We just got custody of one such child. An extended family member was deported leaving his son in the system. They didn’t notify anyone. One day the child showed up to school and told them they didn’t know where their father was.

I mean I don’t think it is fair for them to have an exception just because they have kids. If it’s cruel, it’s cruel regardless of family status. If it is okay for people without kids, it is okay for those with kids to experience too. It can’t be both ways. Either discrimination based on family status is bad or it isn’t. If it is, it is for everyone regardless of family status.

> Incidents like this, involving the arrest and detention of immigrant parents with American citizen children, occurred twice as often after President Donald Trump returned to office ...
What's the acceptable number? The baseline was fucked up too.

Terrorism. That's what it is. Call it what it is.

Which means many of them are in the custody of child protective services. Which means they're in foster care. Since an overwhelming majority of foster parents are white conservative Christians, this means they're continuing a long tradition of familial/cultural erasure, I.E. genocide.

ProPublica is my go to. As an immigrant myself , many of the journalistic deep dive are harrowing. I still think of the children letters and drawings in one article. Thank you for sharing.
