Trump's had responsible adults cleaning up after him all his life. In his second Presidency, he got rid of all the responsible adults in favor of sycophants and enablers. Now, he's panicking because he doesn't know how to get out of the corner he backed himself into. (Source: Heather Cox Richardson.)

Mike Pence wasn’t even a good adult in the room.
He relied on Dan Quayle of “potatoe” fame to tell him subverting the election via an honorary position to oversee electors was a bad idea.

“In a functioning American democracy, the president would deliver an Oval Office address at the start of a new military conflict. Donald Trump, however, decided to wait until a month into his war with Iran to give a speech about it to a skeptical public,” Times Opinion columnist Michelle Goldberg writes. In his address, “a slurring Trump rehashed a bunch of his Truth Social posts, alternately boasting about America’s military progress while threatening war crimes. His speech told us very little, at least explicitly, but revealed quite a lot.”
Michelle continues:
>Trump does seem to want to end it, but he doesn’t know how. We still don’t know whether he’ll send soldiers into Iran to try to score a decisive blow, whether he’ll declare victory and leave or if he’ll finally finagle some type of deal. All we know is that he has managed to give Iran the upper hand in this conflict while tanking the global economy and shredding America’s most important alliances. Trump may not have pulled out of NATO on Wednesday, but European leaders understand that the pact is increasingly meaningless. “If you create doubt every day about your commitment, you hollow it out,” President Emmanuel Macron of France told reporters on Thursday.

It’s the Tariff Paradox. He spent months saying other countries would pay for them, and now that domestic prices are spiking and retailers are panicking, his only move is to blame the corporations for not eating the costs. You can't bully the laws of supply and demand into submission.

There’s a portion of the population that watches tv and not only can’t develop a sense of reporting biases, but also struggle to separate fact from fiction.
Trump is also one of these people (see his “I saw it on tv” answer in a damn presidential debate).

Of course not. The guiding vision of the Trump Administration, in both terms, is that every problem can be solved with better messaging and no actual work. And what the Iran War has done, purely by Trump’s own choice, is create a situation where Trump can’t message his way out of this, much like the beginning of the pandemic.

As silly as it seems, the price of gasoline might be what snaps some of these people out of the cult. It will be undeniable and unsustainable for many Trump supporters if costs continue to rise…and they will.

Thats because hes never had to.
Roy Cohn was the guy that did that, Trump’s dad bailing him out did that, he’s always has someone clean up his mess.
He had some adults in his first administration that prevented him creating the mess, he made sure to not have those in his administration this time.

In Vietnam, in Iraq (the 2nd time), in Afghanistan, from a tactical standpoint the US military won pretty much every battle of any size larger than isollated squad or platoon sized skirmishes.. While managing to achieve none of its actual strategic objectives.
This Iran adventure is increasingly looking like it will become another of those quagmires, thanks to the bumbling politician at the top.

I feel like people get the bankrupt casinos thing wrong. He actually made out quite well in Atlantic City.
Atlantic City was failing and he convinced investors that only he could save it. He put very little of his own money into it and used their money instead. He then borrowed against their investments far more than he should have been allowed to and he even buried his own personal debts into the casinos. Then he corrupted the local politicians to fast-track approvals and cut corners everywhere he could while at the same time calling it shit like the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'.
The executives who knew what he was doing all died in a mysterious helicopter crash and Trump was able to convince lenders to not call his loans for over a decade as he continued to grift them.
To me his run for the Presidency mirrors what he did in Atlantic City just at a much larger scale.
