Wouldn't it be awsome if trump accelerated to decline of fossil fuels and the growth of renewables?

Albireookami Mar 26, 2026 +134
My barely informed oppinion is that a lot of people are going to go to china for their solar tech and such and further increase their soft power while trump kills the US soft power. If my the absolute grace of God get a real f****** adult in charge with a majority to reverse most of his shit, I still don't know if we can fix our image without having a down right divinely skilled politician and clear vision to fix america.

This right here. Trump has stopped the US movement to renewable fuels, even as he breaks fossil fuels for the world. Since the USA isn't developing renewable technology, he's basically giving the future to China, and making certain that the United State will be years behind technologically. In the short term, energy prices will explode, and in the long term we'll be importing battery and energy hardware from China. Moving towards renewables is great for the world, but the way he's doing it explicitly hurts the USA and benefits China.

blackcain Mar 27, 2026 +1
and he's destroyed every market the U.S. had some kind of dominance in. Soybeans, wheat, corn, all fucked..
1
Ok-disaster2022 Mar 26, 2026 +23
The US can catch up, just like China did. But it's going to cost a lot more.
23
AkronRonin Mar 27, 2026 +1
Definitely will cost a lot more. We will also have a lot less money to do it with. Not so sure we can catch up.
1
pleasancey Mar 26, 2026 +5
Honestly: I’m okay with that. China brings more to the table than the US and isn’t the kind of civilization that would put someone like Trump in power. We need an educated society to lead new world order.
5
FiveHeadedSnake Mar 26, 2026 +19
An autocratic society should not be the leader of the world.
19
Kiyohara Mar 26, 2026 +8
And for god's sake, China has *never* had a leader that wasn't a tyrant, despot, autocrat, or aristocrat. saying they'd never put someone like Trump in power is a laugh as they've put plenty of Trumps in power all the way back to the f****** Bronze Age.
8
MostlyCarbon75 Mar 26, 2026 +7
ATheir despots were competent. Trump is a total moron. Real low IQ. Bragging about aceing 3 cognitive tests that are designed to check for brain damage. Lol. China's probably never had a leader so deeply stupid. I mean, come on.
7
Responsible-Cancel24 Mar 27, 2026 +1
How about you read some Chinese history. And I mean MODERN Chinese history. Mao's great leap forward killed literally tens of MILLIONS of Chinese in the famine it caused. Edited Mai to Mao, damn fumble fingers on my phone
1
ChristosFarr Mar 26, 2026 +2
Trump would definitely order a bunch of clay soldiers to guard his tomb I wonder if we could get him to drink Mercury to prolong his life.
2
Kiyohara Mar 26, 2026 +2
With our luck and this cursed timeline, that'd f****** work for him and we'd have El Presidente For Life.
2
Hungry_Ease4527 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Seriously...I need people to stop glazing autocratic, oppressive regimes just because they do a few things better than our current autocrat-lite regime. China is absolutely not the answer we need for a new global leader.
2
pleasancey Mar 26, 2026 +1
Exactly my point.
1
FiveHeadedSnake Mar 26, 2026 +4
Then you failed to make it?
4
Brampton_Speaks Mar 26, 2026 -1
Sounds like America every 4-8 years, par for the course.
-1
FiveHeadedSnake Mar 26, 2026 +3
And therein lies the hypocrisy of that statement. Did I say America wasn't autocratic right now? Right now? We will see how the democratic process responds, and I'm not sure any one nation should be the "leader of the world", but your hypocritical observation and response collapses upon itself.
3
Brampton_Speaks Mar 27, 2026 +1
It's autocratic under any Republican presidency every 4-8 years
1
FiveHeadedSnake Mar 27, 2026 +1
You've restated the problem without actually rebutting my position - and truly, the autocracy has only emerged under Donald Trump. Past iterations of the Republicans have not been as overtly authoritarian as the current administration.
1
Kiyohara Mar 26, 2026 +5
>Honestly: I’m okay with that. China brings more to the table than the US and isn’t the kind of civilization that would put someone like Trump in power. History would like to correct you by pointing out every single leader they've had since the f****** Stone Age as an autocratic leader that has subjugated and oppressed millions of lives. Name me one single leader in the entire history of China that has ever been anything *other* than a autocrat, despot, or aristocratic tyrant. One.
5
pleasancey Mar 26, 2026 +2
You're right. And here we are, at the mercy of China bullying the world order. Yeah? Check out what they've got going for themselves. And then take a look at us.
2
Kiyohara Mar 26, 2026 +1
I didn't say we're better, but I also will fight the idea we're *worse.*
1
DKDamian Mar 26, 2026 +1
You’re clearly worse. Clearly. Have you seen your own country? America isn’t there terrorizing the world. China isn’t. Goodness me for once in your lives take a look at yourself. You are abhorrent
1

You'd be wrong about that. They've done the hopelessly corrupt leader thing many times.
1
sutroheights Mar 27, 2026 +1
He’s now giving the French windmill co. a billion of our tax dollars to not build their projects.
1
GriffinFlash Mar 26, 2026 +40
you can't reverse your image even if he just dropped dead tomorrow. The rest of us will always know it's just 4 years away from another lunatic being elected after this f*** was elected TWICE.
40
Albireookami Mar 26, 2026
Thankfully most cults die with their leader
0
GriffinFlash Mar 26, 2026 +35
he's a symptom, not the disease. America has a problem that still isn't being treated.
35
Roklam Mar 26, 2026 +3
Yes, and the problem is that a bunch of us are too far into it to realize...
3
Morganelefay Mar 26, 2026 +11
So here's the thing. After Trump 1; the world figured, okay, let Biden and whoever come after him clean it up, see if the US makes sure madmen like that won't come to power again, and we can trust them again. Now? People will always operate on the idea that it's never more than 4 years before the next deranged lunatic can take the helm.
11
TheWizard Mar 26, 2026 +9
Trump is the facade that has simply taken advantage of cult the Republican Party has developed over the decades. It won't die with him, it will move on. Don't assume that everything Trump does, is something he has come up with. His handlers are doing it, and they are not going anywhere.
9
Albireookami Mar 26, 2026 +2
His handlers have someone who doesn't care about even trying to be decent. Others have tried to be as trump and failed to gather the support. It will take awhile for someone to find someone as...evil and absolutely stupid as Trump to pilot for their goals.
2
TheWizard Mar 26, 2026 +3
The methods will change, perhaps for the worse. Do you think likes of Musk and Thiel will simply go away? Trump's idiocy may be a feature, and that makes him more polarizing than someone even a bit smarter than him. That is bound to happen once this clown is six feet under.
3
Made_Human_Music Mar 26, 2026 +2
The MAGAt cult may die but the cult members will still be around and likely find a new lowlife scumbag to worship
2
WHTLGHTNNSTDFMTNDW Mar 26, 2026 +1
And it will be a bloodbath as every chump that wants power fights to have that cult and instead they’ll have a bunch of little fiefdoms that can’t work together. The magic goes with him when he’s gone.
1
Ihor_90 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Most cults don't have 77.3 million members.
2
enyasurvivor Mar 26, 2026 +5
what do you call organized religion then?
5
Ihor_90 Mar 26, 2026 +1
We’re talking about the cult of MAGA collapsing and organized religion has survived for millennia.
1
LowAssistantInfinity Mar 26, 2026 +1
Trump's more of an overt fascist, but this is the same cult that has spent the last half-century worshipping the every-bit-as malignant Ronald Reagan.
1
arthurno1 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Your softw power is gone. And you are still risking a civil war. Trump is your enemy. He works for Russia. Knowingly or unknowingly. There is no doubt he trusts more Putin and what he hears from Witkoff and Graham than the entire world combined.
3
Ok-disaster2022 Mar 26, 2026 +3
The US is no longer the global leader. It's now the beginning stages of a multipolar world. US EU China, Russia, India, OPEC, the African Union whatever coalition that eventually emerges in South /Central  Anerica.
3
jschank Mar 26, 2026 +5
The most important step will be meaningful prosecutions and imprisonment.
5
Albireookami Mar 26, 2026 +2
Amen to that.
2
93ImagineBreaker Mar 26, 2026 +2
> f we can fix our image without having a down right divinely skilled politician and clear vision to fix america. it would take a massive purge of the rot, overhaul, and decades of back to back godly presidents.
2
value_meal_papi Mar 26, 2026 +2
China already came out to help Cuba (US neighbor) with solar panels. Talk about soft power… China is moving fast
2
drfsrich Mar 26, 2026 +2
Any other country would be stupid to trust us. Biden started to fix things and this a****** still got back in.
2
giro83 Mar 27, 2026 +1
You cannot. European here. I would not do business, visit, or support your country in any way.
1
Rude-7807 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Nup. America is done. Toast. History won't report well on this disastrous period. Extreme capitalism has shown its ugliness in many ways. Agent Orange is merely a symbol of what's gone horribly wrong on so many levels it ain't funny.
1
Aggressive-Will-4500 Mar 26, 2026 +16
It would, but he's not the only hindrance to reducing fossil fuel usage and the growth of renewables. He IS, however, destroying the growth of renewables in the USA which means that even when Trump is gone, the USA will continue to play catch-up on the technology related to renewables.
16
Le1bn1z Mar 26, 2026 +4
Your lips to god's ears, but there is a real danger and dark side to the market incentives away from oil and gas: [https://asia.nikkei.com/spotlight/iran-tensions/japan-to-temporarily-lift-coal-power-plant-curbs-over-hormuz-crisis](https://asia.nikkei.com/spotlight/iran-tensions/japan-to-temporarily-lift-coal-power-plant-curbs-over-hormuz-crisis) [https://www.npr.org/2026/03/24/g-s1-114940/asia-boosts-coal-use-as-iran-war-squeezes-global-lng-supplies](https://www.npr.org/2026/03/24/g-s1-114940/asia-boosts-coal-use-as-iran-war-squeezes-global-lng-supplies) [https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/chinas-coal-chemicals-sector-cashes-iran-war-crushes-petrochemical-competitors-2026-03-25/](https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/chinas-coal-chemicals-sector-cashes-iran-war-crushes-petrochemical-competitors-2026-03-25/) Countries aren't just turning to renewables and nuclear (though they will do that), they're also turning back to coal - a source that is brutally terrible for GHG emissions, health consequences, safety problems, and, of course, ridiculously high long term cost. But the world's capacity for green-tech is expanding at an impressive pace that is still not enough to come even close to replacing what Trump's idiocy has cut off from the world. Coal is making a comeback. The best we can hope for is that it is a very short comeback. EDIT: As a rule, you should always remember that however bad you think a really stupid Trump policy is hurting America and the world, it is always actually much worse.
4
ZedCee Mar 26, 2026 +4
I think that might just be what's happening.
4
Shadow293 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Double-edged sword I guess.
1
h4ck3r_n4m3 Mar 26, 2026 +4
The rest of the world, yes, but at the rate the US is going it'll be the last "oil" country And yes, we'll all still need oil for various things, but I mean the last country that will be majorly dependent on it for energy/transportation needs
4
Sweetly_Adorable_90 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Honestly, I’ve also thought it’d be wild if something like this pushed everyone into renewables faster the irony of it all would be nuts. But in reality, so far policy has mostly favored fossil fuels, not flipped to clean energy yet
3
HornedShoe Mar 26, 2026 +3
Dont you know?? tRump is actually a Clinton covert-operative sent to undermine the Republican Party from the inside. Everyone is talking about it.
3
MrPloppyHead Mar 26, 2026 +2
That's exactly what he is doing.
2
whatproblems Mar 26, 2026 +2
would be if dumbass wasn’t defunding renewables and research and deporting our scientists
2
MonolithicBaby Mar 26, 2026 +2
I mean yes if it leads to a renewable boom but that’s probably not what’s gonna happen.
2
phinatolisar Mar 27, 2026 +2
Don't worry, trump will just outlaw renewable energy.
2
GenericFatGuy Mar 27, 2026 +2
That might be easier to believe if wasn't also paying companies billions to scrap renewable projects.
2
blackcain Mar 27, 2026 +1
It's the proof that the U.S. has been holding back progress of this planet. Once we are out of the picture it seems that things might get better once the world has shifted.
1

I 100% think he is going to nuke someone (or try to and hopefully someone with a backbone is in the room) before he dies or is forced out.
40
TheGrowingSubaltern Mar 26, 2026 +21
Likely. Absolutely likely he does. There’s simply no other place for a raging socio-political death drive to go. The final frontier for changing the world order.
21
Iosis Mar 26, 2026 +10
I am frankly surprised he hasn’t already.
10
Round_Concentrate723 Mar 26, 2026 +8
Yep. Not for any reason. It’s just what men like him do. R*** children, mass murder on a global scale. They can’t help but do these things. They are essentially corrupted completely by their rings of power. Turns out Tolkien was almost as prophetic as the movie Idiocracy.

I actually think if the Dems don't win the midterms and impeach and convict him, there's a more than slim chance that either he triggers WW3 or the US dollar is dropped as the reserve currency. Either would signal the end of US dominance. MAGA? What a sick joke.
52
cybah Mar 26, 2026 +29
I think the end of US dominance is the point. They want us to be secular and isolated
29
WakingWaldo Mar 26, 2026 +16
Well, it sounds like they want it both ways to me. They want the US to be a major world power, feared by our enemies and revered by our allies. Yet simultaneously we aren't meant to have friendly trade relationships or assist anyone unless it benefits us equally if not moreso than the nation we're helping. They want total dominance, the ability to control global trade and diplomacy and demand whatever we want from any other nation because "we're the United States, goddammit, and if you don't like it then here's a tariff and a missile, take your pick."
16
poorest_ferengi Mar 26, 2026 +8
They want a "Fortress America" that doesn't need to rely on other countries for anything. The Venezuela thing was to secure oil that our gulf state refineries are set up for. Greenland and Canada have Rare Earth Minerals and provide means to force project into the Arctic. Cuba secures the Gulf of Mexico as a "Lake" to secure the tankers from Venezuela. Columbia would allow for better projection over the western side of the Panama Canal. Mexico has Lithium deposits. They don't care if the rest of the world has to burn to get their fortress.
8
AlternativeRun5727 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Fine by pretty much every other country at this point. We can’t be in danger every 4 years of republican voters throwing the world into turmoil.
2
Ok-disaster2022 Mar 26, 2026 +8
They don't have the numbers to remove him from office in the Senate. Even if they won the Senate. It would take like 19 Republican senators to grow a spine, and 1 Democratics senator to recover from his brain damage to convict.
8
ZenMon88 Mar 26, 2026 +3
He might just nuke a country on his way out. That's how evil and vile this guy is.
3

"permanently damaged" is putting it lightly. we’re basically living in the "find out" phase of a massive, decades-long "f*** around" experiment. even if you swap the driver, the engine is already smoking and the brakes were sold for scrap metal back in 2018. we'll be reading about the "unforeseen consequences" of the iran escalation in history books while living in a world shaped by them. just another tuesday in the collapse.
16
notfromhere66 Mar 26, 2026 +30
IDK, it really feels like he has done more damage than just the Iran war. The war is bad, and he probably isn't even done screwing c*** up. That is the real problem. He has a few more years left, think about that..

Entegy Mar 26, 2026 +33
I've constantly seen Americans of a particular political alignment state to me and others "why do you care so much, you're not American". This is why. We acknowledge the US is _the_ superpower. Trump is doing everything to destroy the America that sat at the top of the global food chain (so to speak) and was feared and respected. So as a Canadian, let's take a look at what Trump has done for me: * Raised my food prices in his first term with failed, pointless trade wars * Raised my food prices in his second term with failed, pointless trade wars, now with added illegal tariffs! * Threatened the annexation of my country for... reasons * Raised my gas price to $1.90CAD a litre, and I know it's past $2/L in other parts of the country. All because Obama made a nuclear deal with Iran that he butchered. Then he tried to destroy Iranian leadership but they don't work like that and countered him * Raised the cost of nearly everything for various reasons, including that many overseas exporters imported through the US before Canada That's just the tip of the iceberg. _What the US does affects the world_ because of decades of soft and hard power. The Prime Minister of Norway doesn't affect me. The President of the United States does.
33
AlternativeRun5727 Mar 26, 2026 +7
Spot on. High time we all decoupled so we aren’t at the tantrums and whims of people from Alabama and the rest. It will take a long time but I don’t believe we can ever go back to where we were, the US has proven they won’t learn.
7
LetsGoBubba6141 Mar 26, 2026 +7
Raised the price of plastics, fellow Canadian. Plastics are everywhere, including medical devices so your medical costs go up. Your safety and security, increasing pollution and decreasing technology of renewables. Manipulated markets, meaning if you lose your job, it could be his fault. Made technology more expensive. The list goes on and on and on.
7
ZenMon88 Mar 26, 2026 +2
A true menace to this world. If he only affected Americans, we wouldn't be so f****** misery and have instable.
2
LetsGoBubba6141 Mar 26, 2026

Don’t forget the social consequences. We now have an ever growing and much bolder contingent of white nationalists (covered recently by several journalists). The spread of anti vaccine/science rhetoric affecting our healthcare and threatening our children. and the very real (if low) chance of separatism and general discord sown between *our* people, provinces, and nation.
1
ZenMon88 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Don't forget this f***** let the pandemic spread misinformation and made it worse where it eventually shut down the whole world. Now, again in his second term, he made harder to travel again with his BS war with rising fuel prices. He affects everyone. He brings suffering and misery to EVERYONE

I don’t think people in the US understand how bad it really is. The President of the United States of America is doing all-caps social media posts about how NATO is terrible and that this time will be a remembered etc. The comparisons to dictators started as hyperbole, but that is honestly how many people around the world see it now. Not everyone understands that while he has been saying all these things, NATO exercises has been going on, and military cooperation continues. They just hear what Trump says, and like it or not, he represents the US. People are starting to think that the US is a big a threat as Russia. (or bigger) We can’t even travel to the US country without having our phones searched and risk detention. I am now less likely to be detained if I travel to China, than if I travel to the US. And I wouldn’t have to buy a burner phone in order to travel to China. (though you probably should) This is the world as it currently is, and as long as Trump gets to serve out his entire term without any consequences to his actions, the world will know that this is not the last time this will happen, and things could get even worse. And sure, we still use a lot of IT infrastructure from the US (and social media obviously), but remember that we also get most of our electronics, as well as cars, food, rare earth minerals etc. from China. Just because people still engage with US owned properties it doesn’t mean that people aren’t seriously thinking of the US as an adversary.

His whole Presidency has been an effort to bolster the Trump brand and holdings, and that has morphed into illusions of grandeur that he belongs on Mount Rushmore. The ultimate irony is that his Presidency and ongoing blunders have damaged his name forever and the Trump brand will be forever ridiculed and will ultimately just fade into the background.

if all the people who signed up for the first trump administration to keep things stable had just bailed and let the first administration go off the rails, as this one is, there likely would have only been one trump administration and the US, along with the west and liberal democracy in general, would have been more stable.

Depends on the Republicans sense of self perservation i guess. The ultra capitalists probably don't want to see the missiles fly (as long as they're still within our nations borders anyway) but the evangelicals that think Armageddon is Nigh will be Full Steam Ahead.

Not only the damage will be permanent. The resentment towards the USA from the rest of the world will be permanent too, and that probably means the end of the American hegemony.

And then the next democratic elect will deal with this shitstorm as is tradition, except, hopefully, this time, the next democratic candidate will not be a centrist, corporate owned, AIPAC taker.

When one crook creates chaos, others benefit from it. Tesla has been struggling for years to sell EVs, now this disaster will move the ticker in their favor for used car sales, bumping the meme stock even higher. Buy Tesler!
