My grandma had dementia too, and she would derail conversations by getting fixated on something random and go off on a several minute long monologue.

He has always done this thought.

Tumble85 Mar 26, 2026 +16
Yes, but it's become noticeably worse in the last couple years.
16
Next-Pick9475 Mar 27, 2026 +1
ngl people been saying this shit for years now. “Oh boy he’s getting worse! It’s irreversible now!” Like cmon it’s been f****** years now.

duct_tape_jedi Mar 26, 2026 +5
Is r/buttsharpies still a thing?
5
Obvious_Toe_3006 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Um, er, er, yes, it is still around. Imagine 20 Sharpies inser... No, don't imagine it.
3
duct_tape_jedi Mar 27, 2026 +2
Instructions unclear: Didn't use imagination, now have 20 sharpies stuck inside...
2
ProjectMason Mar 27, 2026 +2
I wish I haven't clicked on that...

B-Z_B-S Mar 26, 2026 +33
Trump thought a Sharpie could alter the course of a hurricane *in his first administration*. That was before the dementia really kicked in.
33
DistractedPhoenix Mar 26, 2026 +13
He’s going to draw a new strait of Hormuz, right through the UAE
13
JessieJ577 Mar 26, 2026 +7
He wanted to nuke that same hurricane.
7
AINonsense Mar 26, 2026 +24
You own this, ‘MAGA. This ’half-witted narcissist pedo who was dragged on Israel’s coattails into an illegal war, the submerged reputation of the formerly United States, and the global recession on the horizon, all this is yours.
24
Historical_Bend_2629 Mar 26, 2026 +9
They cannot admit it. Introspection means failure. Sorry, I was wrong, apologizing; not a hall mark of character for them. The stubborn is a bit admirable until reality sets in.
9
ElectronicFerret Mar 26, 2026 +1
Why would they ever apologize? They don’t think they’ve done anything wrong. They’re THRILLED with all this bullshit.
1
Taman_Should Mar 27, 2026 +1
Trump gave them permission to be their worst and most honest selves without EVER having to backtrack or apologize, and that’s a privilege they’d sell their own souls for. They love nothing more than the feeling they’re pissing the right people off and getting away with something, the same simplistic thrill a 5 year-old feels when they steal another kid’s toy, stay up past their bedtime, or sneak another sugary treat they know they’re not supposed to have.
1
falilth Mar 26, 2026 +18
Dont forget he also said " forget about gas prices, what about my statue "

Made_Human_Music Mar 26, 2026 +49
> Trump said he contacted Sharpie and was told that they could make a black pen with the White House logo in gold and that they wouldn’t charge for it. Trump said he insisted on paying $5 per marker. Online searches reveal that typical Sharpies sell for usually $1 to $2 apiece. This most likely only happened in his dementia addled mind but if it did really happen it shows what a horrible deal maker he is. Who in their right mind is offered something for free and it says nah, I’ll pay for it instead? Also, if sharpie is working with this scumbag, I think it’s time for a boycott
49
citizenjones Mar 26, 2026 +29
None of that happened.  It's a story from the point of view of a narcissist imagining 'something altruistic' and aligning himself as the hero in the story.  He's the main character, always. Even when the subject is a marker.
29
ToNoMoCo Mar 26, 2026 +10
I suspect the person who orders office supplies just ordered some custom sharpies from their vendor. Maybe trump asked for them.
10
Big-Rule5269 Mar 26, 2026 +25
He probably paid nothing, yet invoiced $5 a Sharpie and pocketed the money.
25
Nervous-Internet-926 Mar 26, 2026 +9
No. He bought a corporate ally who will engage in quid pro quo with him and it cost him nothing but our tax dollars. We bribed some exec for him.
9
Big-Rule5269 Mar 26, 2026 +4
I can't imagine how much graft and scamming we're going to find out about over the next 10 years.
4
JMDeutsch Mar 26, 2026 +6
CEO of Sharpie: “Well if this befuddled orange clown is willing to pay 5x the cost, who am I stop him?”
6
EricSanderson Mar 26, 2026 +5
And the entire point of the "story" was that he was saving money on pens. At least after having such an embarrassing moment in a high-level meeting, he'll adjust and start taking things more seriously. >After concluding his Sharpie recollections, Trump took a moment to revel in his own storytelling ability before offering the floor to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. >“Good luck, Scott,” he said as the rest of the Cabinet laughed again. >“Well, sir,” Bessent offered, “as usual, you’re a tough act to follow.” F*** me

DistractedPhoenix Mar 26, 2026 +5
I’m sure if this actually happened (likely didn’t) sharpie felt it was easier to make him what he wants before they end up on the enemy of the state list with Anthropic
5
hi2u_uk Mar 27, 2026 +1
I dont really understand what he is talking about. Even if there is an issue with the cost of pens I'm still not clear why you would want to bring up this issue in a government cabinet meeting that is broadcast to the world when you are at war and the war is causing global turmoil and misery to many people in Iran. If they have nothing else to talk about then end the meeting .

papaHans Mar 26, 2026 +11
“I love the government like I love myself, economically,” Trump said. “I want to save money.”... Trump said he contacted Sharpie and was told that they could make a black pen with the White House logo in gold and that they wouldn’t charge for it. Trump said he insisted on paying $5 per marker. Online searches reveal that typical Sharpies sell for usually $1 to $2 apiece.
11
AINonsense Mar 26, 2026 +6
> Trump said he insisted on paying $5 per marker. There he is, taking care of your hard-earned tax dollars.
6
CAM6913 Mar 26, 2026 +10
We all know what he’s like but what is also really concerning is every single person in that room is going right along with his demented behavior. Who is behind the curtain that is actually running the country into the ground?
10
rwf2017 Mar 26, 2026 +8
The PotUS is a senile imbecile.
8
KingCarnivore Mar 26, 2026 +6
Well, hurricane season is coming up soon
6
robcwag Mar 26, 2026 +5
This is insanity. Trump cannot be bothered with the news of his horrendous war against Iran and all the people that have been injured or killed due to his demented incomprehensibly ridiculous actions, so he will interrupt the dissemination of vital information to rant about Sharpies, and fictional $1000 ballpoint pens. He's insane and everyone in his orbit is afraid to say anything.
5
RamonaQ-JunieB Mar 26, 2026 +3
He’s off in La-La Land again. He’s like a cat chasing a laser pointer.
3
KafeenHedake Mar 26, 2026 +5
Hey, Sharpie! Go f*** yourselves! I prefer marker companies that don't play footsie with Nazis!
5
bejammin075 Mar 26, 2026 +6
They can't control that Trump uses their markers. Sharpie is owned by Newell Brands, run by CEO Chris Peterson. He doesn't seem to have an overt political affiliation. He has stated that Trump's tariffs are bad for business.
6
KafeenHedake Mar 27, 2026 +1
They made him special Trump Sharpies. F*** ‘em.
1
Imaginary-Ad-7919 Mar 26, 2026 +4
He treats Cabinet meetings like open‑mic night for his insecurities.
4
tecdaz Mar 26, 2026 +2
Trump is the cordyceps that preys on GOP voters. probably an unfair slight on the intelligence of a fungus
2
Historical_Bend_2629 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Grandpa has his priorities. Caring about reality and the lives of other doesn’t make the top ten.
2
brokenmessiah Mar 26, 2026 +2
Just think folks...there will come a day where you won't see the name Trump mentioned at all in the news.
2
Background_Ad9083 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Perhaps he shit himself again and was just trying to divert the attention from his shitty pants to the constant shit that he spews from his shitty face
2
GardenPeep Mar 26, 2026 +2
We can use them on the new dollar bills

"Americans elected this clown. Canadians elected a Harvard and Oxford graduate! Mark Carney received his BA from Harvard and his MPhil and DPhil from Oxford. Two countries sharing the same continent, yet with completely polar-opposite leaders.
2
chimarya Mar 26, 2026 +2
I just can't anymore 😔
2
CelticSith Mar 26, 2026 +1
Trump entered the meeting walked over to the screen projecting the current status of the ‘military operation’ and then wrote “I won this war Bigly” in permanent sharpie
1
justbunnies Mar 26, 2026 +1
Demented pedo was probably huffing them before the meeting.
1
voyagerdoge Mar 26, 2026 +1
That Sharpie deal is probably one of the few good things he did for America. Sadly, most Americans are high on billionaire funded right wing 'christian' propaganda.
1
down1vote2me3to4hell Mar 26, 2026 +1
What you guys don't get is that he's able to redact his name from the files with his sharpies
1
Lowe0 Mar 26, 2026 +1
That’s not a terrible story, or a terrible analogy. But in a meeting where there’s a ton of other, more important things to talk about, and only so much time to talk about them, it’s an ironic waste of a limited government resource to talk about wisely conserving government resources.

TehGoad Mar 26, 2026 +1
86 the taco prez

juice16 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Classic narcissistic sundowning pudding boy behavior. In the same meeting he rambled about his ballroom and still had time to take a nap.
1
Malachite_Edge Mar 26, 2026 +1
He wishes he had a chiseled head like his sharpie pen
1
AustinSpartan Mar 26, 2026 +1
Probably had one up his ass

tom_snout Mar 26, 2026 +1
That one big beautiful obituary is going to be a gripping read

Imagine having to brown nose this f****** moron in meetings all day? I wouldn't do it for all the millions he would help me steal
1
TheKanten Mar 27, 2026 +1
We have this new thing called a keyboard, it's the wildest thing, it doesn't run out of ink. It's like a *super* Sharpie!
1
sugarlessdeathbear Mar 26, 2026
Was he drawing on maps too? I find there is a tiny bit of pity creeping into my feelings about Trump. He is clearly the victim of elder abuse at this point. Edit: Not that that excuses anything he's done.
0
AINonsense Mar 26, 2026 +5
> He is clearly the victim of elder abuse at this point. That’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
5
Jesse-359 Mar 26, 2026 +5
He went over the moral-event-horizon a very long time before his faculties disintegrated. Can't spare sympathy for someone like that.
