My grandma had dementia too, and she would derail conversations by getting fixated on something random and go off on a several minute long monologue.

They cannot admit it. Introspection means failure. Sorry, I was wrong, apologizing; not a hall mark of character for them. The stubborn is a bit admirable until reality sets in.

Trump gave them permission to be their worst and most honest selves without EVER having to backtrack or apologize, and that’s a privilege they’d sell their own souls for. They love nothing more than the feeling they’re pissing the right people off and getting away with something, the same simplistic thrill a 5 year-old feels when they steal another kid’s toy, stay up past their bedtime, or sneak another sugary treat they know they’re not supposed to have.

> Trump said he contacted Sharpie and was told that they could make a black pen with the White House logo in gold and that they wouldn’t charge for it. Trump said he insisted on paying $5 per marker. Online searches reveal that typical Sharpies sell for usually $1 to $2 apiece.
This most likely only happened in his dementia addled mind but if it did really happen it shows what a horrible deal maker he is. Who in their right mind is offered something for free and it says nah, I’ll pay for it instead?
Also, if sharpie is working with this scumbag, I think it’s time for a boycott

None of that happened.
It's a story from the point of view of a narcissist imagining 'something altruistic' and aligning himself as the hero in the story.
He's the main character, always. Even when the subject is a marker.

And the entire point of the "story" was that he was saving money on pens.
At least after having such an embarrassing moment in a high-level meeting, he'll adjust and start taking things more seriously.
>After concluding his Sharpie recollections, Trump took a moment to revel in his own storytelling ability before offering the floor to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
>“Good luck, Scott,” he said as the rest of the Cabinet laughed again.
>“Well, sir,” Bessent offered, “as usual, you’re a tough act to follow.”

I dont really understand what he is talking about. Even if there is an issue with the cost of pens I'm still not clear why you would want to bring up this issue in a government cabinet meeting that is broadcast to the world when you are at war and the war is causing global turmoil and misery to many people in Iran. If they have nothing else to talk about then end the meeting .

That’s not a terrible story, or a terrible analogy. But in a meeting where there’s a ton of other, more important things to talk about, and only so much time to talk about them, it’s an ironic waste of a limited government resource to talk about wisely conserving government resources.
