When President Donald Trump says “nobody” knew or expected something, that often means lots of people knew or expected it.

That's because it's his tell that he didn't f****** know or expect it. Because he's a stupid m***********.

specqq Mar 28, 2026 +81
And also an instinctual solipsist. It doesn't matter if YOU knew it or expected it because you only exist in relation to him. It was so telling that he recently asked the Japanese prime minister "why didn't you tell ME about Pearl Harbor?" Forget about the why, I was struggling to understand *how* he expected them to tell someone who wouldn't even be born for another 5 years. But that's just the way he thinks. Of course everything is always all about him, because there's no one else that's truly real.

He was warned and he thinks he is the smartest person and his minions playing emperor wears no clothes

The Republicans have updated that parable with a new moral lesson more appropriate for the times: “That kid should have kept his f’ing mouth shut!”
3
4umlurker Mar 28, 2026 +9
He does the same thing when he spouts “people are saying”. Nobody is saying it. It’s just him saying it. It’s basically his stupid version of the royal “we”.

Illustrious_Pound282 Mar 29, 2026 +2

something something narcissist’s prayer
4
Zahgi Mar 28, 2026 +4
Trump's a textbook malignant narcissist. He thinks the entire world centers on him and has no concept of the idea that each of us sees the universe from our own perspective. It's why he lacks all empathy, because he sees us all as 2D NPCs in his universe.
4
farang69420 Mar 28, 2026 +97
He's done this since 2016. Every damn time it was something he had just learned or been told. He's always been devoid of any intellectual curiosity and knew nothing about any of the numerous areas you would want a president to be knowledgeable about. He's a f****** idiot.
97
kinkgirlwriter Mar 28, 2026 +43
> He's always been devoid of any intellectual curiosity This has been my feeling about his whole administration. Like, these are people who don't visit libraries, and never raised their hands in class, not to ask or answer a question. They lack curiosity and also depth of character, from shrill racist Miller, to walking affectation Hegseth, to political chameleon Vance, there's no there there with any of them. Pam Bondi needs a burn book to testify before Congress, because she's nothing more than a hollow lacky. This is an administration by and for NPCs. Everybody who gave this war any thought knew it would go down like this. That's the problem with Team Trump, they didn't give it any thought and/or lacked the imagination to see past the moment. And that's my take on Trump. His brain works in binary, one switch at a time, and slowly. Take a domino run. Trump sees the first domino and nothing after. Domino up, domino down. Everybody else can see the branches and patterns, see the "Regional Escalation" domino and the "Strait Closed" domino, followed by "Soaring Oil Prices" and "Inflation" dominos. You could tell him that the "Boots on the Ground" fork leads to "Protracted Ground War," but there's no way to make him see past the first domino because he's dumb as a box of rocks.
43
Fizzy_Astronaut Mar 28, 2026 +6
Dumber than a box of rocks to be fair. Some rocks could find their way into a chip and be part of some AI / LLM and be smarter than the orange shitstain. Even if they produce complete and utter AI slop, it’s better than the verbal diarrhea that spews from his pie hole on the daily.

I've met some stupid people in my time, but even they could be relied upon to be reasonably informed on some subjects. Even if those subjects were just stuff to do with their job or hobbies. I've nevwr met anyone who is as completely ignorant about everything as Trump regularly appears to be.
19
GhostofZellers Mar 28, 2026 +5
Hey, don't sell Trump short here. I guarantee you he's a subject expert on lying, grifting, swindling, bankruptcy, child trafficking, and child r***.

From 2016: “who knew fixing healthcare would be so hard?” after spending the _entire_ campaign saying how easy it would be to fix Obamacare.

Weak_Ad_1370 Mar 28, 2026 +1
And this attitude is exactly why he is so dangerous. Underestimating him has gotten you Americans (and the world) to the present state of affairs. This assumption that he is some bumbling asshat is the worst anyone can do. If he was just a “dumbass”, he is one that has been allowed to become President after a disastrous 1st term and coup attempt, after he had become a convicted felon and after already proving to the American public that he is a consummate liar who cares about nothing other than his own enrichment. He is most certainly not a dumbass. He played the American public like the amazing marketing professional he has always been. Anyone that still actually believes he created MAGA and used the most simplistic and uncomplicated talking points that really spoke to the majority of Americans to win an election is walking through this time with blinders on. Trump is anything but intelligent, however he knows marketing and has been taught the art of manipulation since he was a child. I mean, you guys elected a man that somehow bankrupted a f****** c*****!!?? I do believe he is now suffering from age related cognitive issues - which makes him soooooo much more dangerous. A proven psychopath with dementia is running the United States. He is anything but a dumbass.
1
MistahBrukshot13 Mar 28, 2026 +3
Most con-men are actually complete idiots. The two are not mutually exclusive imo.
3
Weak_Ad_1370 Mar 28, 2026 -1
Well, he’s your president, so 🤷‍♀️ And like I said - I don’t think he is intelligent.

Trust me, got an expensive bottle of champagne in my fridge ready to pop for when he ultimately dies on the shitter or something. F*** that pedo and his idiot supporters.
1
Electronic_Wait_7249 Mar 28, 2026 +53
That’s because he surrounds himself with sycophants. When everyone is afraid to tell you things that may upset you, no one can warn you.
53
Wet_Juice_36 Mar 28, 2026 +3
He only cares about himself, I am pretty sure many of them would've told him stuff, but as long as it isn't something he agrees with or understands, he doesn't care
3
Confident-Breath2615 Mar 28, 2026 +23
For years now when he learns some basic fact he claims no one knew and he figured it out. It is truly insane that he’s POTUS.

I always think about the hurricane in Puerto Rico. "Puerto Rico is an island surrounded by water. Big water. Ocean water."

3rd Grade Test: Name 5 things we learned about oceans: 1- They are made of water. 2- They are big. 3- They are wet. 4- They have fish. 5- There are 11 Oceans. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Dementia - a decline in mental abilities including memory, thinking, reasoning and language severe enough to interfere with daily life.
13
Proper-District8608 Mar 28, 2026 +6
The I can do what I want mentality has always been with him as has the narrcism. The dementia is just showing hes being verbally sloppy about justifying those life long traits.
6
jrakosi Mar 28, 2026 +12
He's been doing this for the past decade. "Lots of people are saying" translates to "I just thought of this for the first time and want to sound smart." "Nobody knew" means "I didn't expect this, therefore I'll convince myself that nobody could have seen it coming so as to not confront my own stupidity"
12
YoungestDonkey Mar 28, 2026 +12
He's talking to his MAGA supporters, who don't seem to know or to see or to care about the longer-term consequences of what he does. He tells them that nobody knew and they believe it because they didn't know it, themselves.
12
couchandwine Mar 28, 2026 +8
Because he doesn't listen to people who DO know things. He prefers the company of fawning idiots.

3

Not one of his staff read or understand what the history of the Middle East is. He can’t read above a fourth grade level. Plus his staff just tells him what he wants to hear. No wonder we’re in the mess we’re in. And they keep telling him Cuba will be easier than Venezuela.

Wasn't Iran shutting down the strait an actual plot point in the pilot episode of Designated Survivor? If I recall correctly, the Iranians were testing the resolve of the new president, and the president had to make very careful decisions because there was a chance of disrupting shipping through the strait.

4
we_are_sex_bobomb Mar 28, 2026 +3
Whenever he says “everybody” or “nobody” its him projecting his opinion onto a proxy because he lacks confidence in the authority of his own voice. He needs everyone to agree with him before he says it out loud. Nothing wounds a narcissist more than embarrassment.
3
keepitcleanforwork Mar 28, 2026 +3
This is the way Trump speaks. He uses expressions such as "nobody knew", "like never before", "the worst ever." It's always extremes with him, and they're always lies.
3
Korgoth420 Mar 28, 2026 +3
By “nobody” he means himself. He is citing the Homeric legend of Odysseus and Polyphemus. /s
3
Sarnsereg Mar 28, 2026 +5
When he says "nobody" he's referring to himself. When he says "they all say" or "everyone says" or sny other like saying, it's him saying it. But he has to say it in a way that flatters himself and makes him look as good as possible, and then if it goes wrong he can shift blame to all these other "people" he's claiming didn't know.
5
LiffeyDodge Mar 29, 2026 +3
"Nobody" is code for him. He didn't know or expect what would happen.
3
Particle_Rain1199 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Yeah, well. Nobody knew or expected Trump to start a war, send federal police to illegally arrest and murder US citizens, or cause inflation to skyrocket, either!

2
fluffysmaster Mar 28, 2026 +2
Trump knows nothing and doesn’t listen or learn anything. And his ego prevents him from believing other people know more or are smarter than him. Remember, this is just a real estate developer born to a rich family who had a string of failed business ventures. Hardly the kind of person one would expect could lead a major country.

1
Safe_Base312 Mar 28, 2026 +2

“Frankly, nobody saw it! Nobody. Nobody except me, Trump! Y’know people say i’m the smartest and best president of their lives. I don’t say it folks. Other people do. They say, “wow, mr. President, trump btw, you’re the best. The strongest. The most attractive president I’ve ever seen”. If it wasn’t for wicked Hillary and her emails and sleepy Joe, I might have seen it sooner. Still incredibly fast by any presidential medasure….mefasurrrre….meaaaasure. I’m also the most well spoken as well and most fit. Doctor’s say I’m the healthiest president they’ve ever seen! 3
SquidFistHK Mar 28, 2026 +2
> Trump made wildly inaccurate “nobody” claims about multiple subjects during his first presidency. Perhaps most famously, he declared in 2017, while trying and failing to pass a replacement for Obamacare, that “nobody knew health care could be so complicated.” > He’s now doing it again amid the war with Iran.

mike0sd Mar 28, 2026 +1
Putin told Trump that if he pretends to not know about things, he can get off the hook. But the buck stops with Trump. Him not knowing things isn't an excuse. Neither is him trying to shift blame to other people.
1
Dry_Egg8180 Mar 28, 2026 +1
He was told in advance but his wee brain has no way to process anything. It goes in one ear, is forced into the vacuum, and then jettisoned out - who knows which orifice. Then when what he was warned about domes to fruition, he starts looking around at who to blame. Right now my money is on Hegseth.
1
mcrnHoth Mar 29, 2026 +2
There is no way the theater commanders didn't know and didn't plan for exactly the situation that is developing now. And there is no way they didn't brief the administration about all of it. I just can't believe that even this group of sycophant flag officers that report to Kegsbreath could be so strategically inept as to NOT foresee the entirely foreseeable actions Iran would take. What I want to know is what went down in the briefings and how the Geriatric Diaper managed to not comprehend a single piece of it.
