Iran will be happy to negotiate for months. The key thing now is that TIME is on Iran's side. If the battlefield remains as it is in a month, Iran is stronger and America is desperate. If it remains the same for three months, Iran is stronger and Trump has an economic and political crisis. Every military option to open the strait, hastens more economic pain, and won't secure it. They planned for this, it's not an accident. Iran's negotiating hand is stronger now that before the war and it will be even stronger in a month. They know Trump's weakness - the domestic economy and mid-terms.

easypeasycajuneasy Mar 26, 2026 +1
Before, ships passed Hormuz for free. Now Iran is earning $2 million per vessel that goes through Hormuz. DJT unwittingly set up a nice revenue stream for them.
1
Virtual-Squirrel-725 Mar 26, 2026 +1
That's the true marker of failure. The biggest thing we NEED from these negotiations is something we had before the war. That's a seriously weakened position. And we gave them sanctions relief BEFORE the negotiations because we needed it, so we can't exactly threaten it during the negotiations.

Can we trade them Israel for free passage again? They wanted a war. Give up their lands as reparations.
1
Lukas316 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Not only that. The longer the straits is closed, the more pissed the rest of the world will be at the US and Israel for precipitating this nonsense.
1
LeonTranter Mar 26, 2026 +1
Bingo. That’s what they want. Total isolation and humiliation of the US as all their allies turn against them.
1
Noy_The_Devil Mar 26, 2026 +1
Hey that's what I want too, for now. The US might redeem itself, but only partially.
1

Trump is committing violence against his country's former allies when he takes food out of our mouths, starves our children and freezes our pensioners to death.

1

Iran did say they don't want to negotiate. They just want to inflict economic pain. They're succeeding.

The art of the deal
1
FC37 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Iran has not yet demonstrated the ability to protect its leaders. Contingency plans and succession plans are great, but at the end of the day the leaders are negotiating to save their own lives. This created an agency problem, where you're right - yes, as a country Iran does have the ability to play the long game, but the leaders are heavily motivated to get something done before they get targeted. It's like when CEOs do stock buybacks to inflate the value of the company's equity rather than invest it in something that creates economic value.
1
Ok-disaster2022 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Don't ascribe competence where sheer dumb luck can prevail. They did not plan for so many leader to be killed and for us airpower to be so effecting. Nobody's plans survive first contact with the enemy. I'm not saying this to support the pedophile in chief. Everyone in this conflict  is a b****** of history. The fact is it's war. There's a whole lot of stuff we don't what is going on, especially in Iran, but also in DC. Pedo Trump may be getting backed into a corner and rapists when they're about to be caught may do any number of things.
1
CryptographerShot213 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I don’t think it’s dumb luck, Iran has been prepping for a big war for decades. They weren’t exactly caught with their pants down.
1
NeilDeCrash Mar 26, 2026 +1
>They did not plan for so many leader to be killed and for us airpower to be so effecting. US used 5 years worth of stockpiling and producing tomahawks in the first 72 hours of epic fury. That was the first 72 hours, its been a month now. China is counting every missile and laughing as US stockpiles gets depleted for nothing.
1
Virtual-Squirrel-725 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Don't worry Scott Bessent proudly announced they have "plenty of money" for war. It's urgent that healthcare and food assistance is cut to the bone, but for war, there is plenty. The military machine is churning out new missiles as we speak.
1
NeilDeCrash Mar 26, 2026 +1
They produce 90 tomahawks per year. It takes almost 2 years to produce one from start to finish and it costs between 2-3 million per missile, depending if the missile has been served with a kit to prolong the service life. They fired 400 tomahawks in the first 72 hours. So around 10% of the US whole tomahawk stockpile was used in couple of days. Money has never been the problem for US when it comes to military. It's more about stockpiles and ability to produce currently.
1
LeonTranter Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yes, at one fiftieth of the rate they are being used
1
mooky1977 Mar 26, 2026 +1
All we need now is for China to say it's go time on Taiwan. I'm not wishing for it, but strategically, what could the USA do to stop it. 🤷‍♂️
1
blastradii Mar 26, 2026 +1
China has no incentive to take Taiwan with a kinetic war
1
drixhen2 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Their whole military and police structure is built around leadership continuation and to stop coups. Their structure is literally design around these scenarios
1
MayContainRawNuts Mar 26, 2026 +1
>Nobody's plans survive first contact with the enemy. Thats a glib quote from an operational perspective, if your strategic plan doesnt survive first operational contact then you have a huge issue with army leadership. Closing the strait is a strategic level threat, and yes contrary to what US and Israeli leadership believe, it has always been in Iran's hand.
1
JeantaVer Mar 26, 2026 +1
Dude, this is a contingency plan: they were prepared for some scenario's and one of the cards Iran hold is the straight of Hormuz. Thats quite obvious, even if they didn't count in the factor of their leadership dying.
1
ChristopherMarv Mar 26, 2026 +1
The Iranians have been planning for these eventualities for decades.

From [the article.](https://archive.is/20260326014358/https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-makes-frantic-excuse-after-irans-humiliating-reveal/) "Donald Trump has claimed Iran is negotiating with the U.S. to end the current war but is “afraid” to say admit it. Trump, 79, made his remarks at Wednesday evening’s Nation Republican Congressional Committee’s annual fundraising dinner. “They are negotiating by the way,” Trump claimed of Iran. “They want to make a deal so badly but they are afraid to say it. Because they figure they will be killed by their own people. They are also afraid they will be killed by us.” His comments conflict Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi who said the country is not currently in negotiations with the U.S. over a resolution to the war and “does not intend” to have the conversations. "

Iran could bring trump to heel by saying they are offering him a billion dollars for some contrived reason to make him look pathetic as Pedo-In-Chief, something new and shameful. Republicans might be forced to say stern things about the reporters who report it!

Tfw you trust a murderous and putrid regime more than the President of the United States. Of course, he's also child rapist and child murderer in chief.
1
PlatonicTroglodyte Mar 26, 2026 +1
There’s never really any reason to believe anything Trump says. That said, it is very much the case that strongman dictatorships (or wannabe ones) will also just lie publicly about negotiating or anything that could be perceived as weak. Basically impossible to know who to believe here.
1
CryptographerShot213 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Normally I would agree with you but Iran has nothing to lose and they have the upper hand. And last time they were in negotiations Trump started bombing them. It’s going to take a lot for them to even begin to think about negotiations.

eskimospy212 Mar 26, 2026 +1
It’s not even about them being religious fanatics. Trump faced Iran’s leadership with an existential threat so they played the one incredibly obvious card they had to play, the Straight of Hormuz. Anyone who knows anything about the region could have predicted Iran would do this. The US military has known this for decades. One of the biggest reasons the US never attacked Iran in the past was precisely this - there is no easy way to ensure passage without massive engagement that we didn’t want to do. Even Bush knew this. Imagine being a president stupider than Bush.

Religious fanatics. Defending their slain leader. Because of their religion is the Reddit motto. Even the liberal wannabes. I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but if a foreign nation is killing our leaders and destroying our infrastructure, I would be first in line to fight back.
1
FeelsGrimMan Mar 26, 2026 +1
It’s because Americans genuinely do not grasp the concept of a foreign nation being able to kill them. It’s so outside the sphere of understanding that we have a whole day of morning for the single time it kind of happened. It’s rare enough that one time requires constant remembrance.  America bombed one of Iran’s schools & turned dozens of parents into rightfully vengeful people. To Americans, it’s all distract from Epstein files, that silly Trump again, the gas prices at the pump. To Iran, & every other country America has terrorized for that matter, it’s life & death of entire generations. It’s America stepping onto your soil & telling you what you’re gonna do. It really is not difficult to rally people against America. We are literally terrorists, a rogue state. It is also kind of ironic that Iranians are considered religious fanatics as if Americans & Israelis aren’t. Both justify their warmongering with faith. People just refuse to see “killing in the name of Christ” as fanaticism because Christianity is so familiar.

ArugulaElectronic478 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Honestly I don’t think Iran is seeing the same rally around the flag effect that you’d see for instance in Ukraine given how brutal the Iranian regime has been. That being said I think Trump heavily underestimated the resilience of the IRGC, it’s literally an over 200, 000 strong army of heavily armed religious fanatics that are willing to do anything to prevent the regime’s collapse. It’s like he saw how poorly America did in Afghanistan and figured he wanted his see how they would stack up against an even beefier, more insane middle eastern country with twice the amount of people. Such a clown show.
1
Auzziesurferyo Mar 26, 2026 +1
>Honestly I don’t think Iran is seeing the same rally around the flag effect that you’d see for instance in Ukraine given how brutal the Iranian regime has been. Then your not watching news from outside America, or listening to Israeli propaganda.  Iranians are overwhelmingly rallying around their flag. Whatever internal conflicts they had politically have taken a back seat to US - Israeli bombing of hospitals, schools, and homes. America is deeply divided right now, but I can guarantee you that if Russia or China started bombing us hoping either the left or right would rise up and fight the other, they would be very mistaken. Iranians are no different. They knew this war was coming and have been preparing for it for the last 20 yrs. >That being said I think Trump heavily underestimated the resilience of the IRGC. In 2025,  Iranians had the 6th highest average IQ in the world. The USA didn't make the top 20. We have severely underestimated not only their resilience but also their intelligence. Big mistake on our part.   A few days ago, the Iranians deployed the world's first hypersonic missiles. They also shot down a F-35 for the first time in its history. They have an air defense system they are testing out that just shot down a US fighter jet today.
1
Motzlord Mar 26, 2026 +1
I understood that they managed to hit an F-35, not down it? I mean yeah, don't underestimate them for sure, they are the bleeding edge of c**** suicide drones.
1
Bagellord Mar 26, 2026 +1
Realistically the US, probably all of NATO, could not protect the strait without putting boots in Iran. Iran just has too many weapons to throw and too much area to launch from.
1
newtoallofthis2 Mar 26, 2026 +1
And boots on the ground means another Iraq/Afghanistan. Only worse as you’re fighting the insurgency OGs who were heavily involved in both prior conflicts and with way more manpower, equipment and decades of prep.  Trump is in a complete Kobayashi Maru of his own making
1
GloriousDawn Mar 26, 2026 +1
Iran's mountainous terrain makes it ten times more difficult to conquer than Iraq. And they've been preparing against this for 40 years, while it seems the US planned their strikes for 10 days at best. I'm pretty sure Trump doesn't believe in no-win scenarios as far as he's personally concerned, but in this situation he's a redshirt and Netanyahu is in the captain's chair.
1
Adversary-of-Tyrants Mar 26, 2026 +1

A lot of the people I know who were (still are most likely) pro trump, just say that theyre all the same and theyre not really interested in politics, even though the last 10 years all they talked about was politics
1
peteAnim Mar 26, 2026 +1
I might add some of their arguments for Trump were: - Kamala wants to start a war in Iran I want a peaceful president - Pizzagate and how they hate pedophiles and Trump will bring them down and release the epstein files - Want small government that doesn't interfere with business - Want the country run like a business and stop wasteful spending

As an American; I apologize. Our system has failed us. There is no longer good faith in politics. It's devolved to school yard bullying and antics, with insane cliques that seem to be calling the shots. There is no accountability, there are no consequences, there is no reprimand. Donald is bankrupting our country like his failed businesses. The US treasury stated that they are insolvent! All I can say is,  I'm sorry. I'm sorry that the elected officials of the untied states failed all of us, worldwide. I just hope that our democratic process still survives. We're hoping to oust these f****** fascists by the books! Oh, but yeah! F*** those assholes! You're totally in the right!

You could also be angry at your own government for not making it easy enough for you to switch to electric by now or give you access to public transport
1
Nessy_monster36903 Mar 26, 2026 +1
We have decent access to public transport in the UK. Not brilliant and far from where it should be, granted, but still miles better than the US. As for EVs the Chinese EV companies cars here are reasonably priced and are becoming really popular. You can get a new decent speced Jacoo 5 for about £27000. We actually have more brands here than just Tesla and their ridiculously expensive pieces of c***. The reason I don't have an EV personally is because most weekends I will drive up to 200 miles each way and park in a field for the day so there is no way to charge it in between journeys. I just don't think the technology is good enough yet.

>We have decent access to public transport in the UK. Not brilliant and far from where it should be, granted, but still miles better than the US. I feel like this doesn't really mean much given the country size and economics. I use only public transport because of my health condition and it's far from decent. Better than the arse end of the rural states simply because it exists and works every so often.

Does it mean anything that the writer calls him "Mr" and not "President" Trump?
1
ADAN86 Mar 26, 2026 +1
It’s an editorial style / official salutation standard. Major journalism outlets in the U.S. can refer to the president in a number of ways, including (assuming male) “Mr. (Insert surname)” The way I was taught, it gives the writer a way to avoid reader “fatigue” of the same repeated term (such as repeatedly stating “the president”); but it can also be used as a subtle way of referring specifically to the man as opposed to the office itself. I’m a little rusty but the AP and major outlets like the NYT have in-house editorial guidance that lay out how and when terminology should be used, in addition to ensuring grammatical accuracy.
1
StrathfieldGap Mar 26, 2026 +1
No. That is the NY Times editorial style. They use it for everyone.

To all the MAGA cultists and cynical MAGA-lite ensblers, was it all worth it? Losing friends and family, your self-respect and credibility for this unstable clown and conman?

Trump is projecting, like he always does. Trump is very obvious about his insecurities, and becoming more and more desperate as he sees his popularity dropping.
1
BobInIdaho Mar 26, 2026 +1
It would be interesting if Iran started to release the Trump Pedo files.
1
oluwie Mar 26, 2026 +1
Imagined if they released all files, un-redacted. Easiest way to win the war.
1
illGATESmusic Mar 26, 2026 +1
If Iran “leaks” gay Trump in deepfaked Epstein videos people would fall for it and it would end his popularity. Remember Diddy? “The masses” were more or less ok with trafficking but drew the line at homosexuality. SMH. It is depressing the world is still so homophobic, BUT: as a strategy *you know* Iran “leaking” deepfaked gay Trump “Epstein” videos would work. I can’t see Iran doing it though. Too off brand.

redditobserverone Mar 26, 2026 +1
Why send in troops if they’re begging to make a deal? How are your Hormuz strait co-management talks going? Why are they still negotiating after giving you a very big gift? Why the strong-arming, name-calling and shaming of allies to get help if Iran wants a deal.? Why isn’t your deal making as quiet as your summit with Putin in Helsinki that you emerged from stooping in obedience while Putin smirked?

These people don't need him or his weak power to succeed. They aren't spineless like every god damn Republican is.

I wish trump’s failure didn’t mean pain and damage to pretty much the entire world. It makes it harder to enjoy it.
1
starliteburnsbrite Mar 26, 2026 +1
Have they said anything about his "amazing, expensive" gift they supposedly gave him?
1
Admirable-Eagle-231 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Cool, got any of those files left?!
1
IMTrick Mar 26, 2026 +1
I can't help thinking that if you're "negotiating" with people who will be killed if someone finds out, maybe they're the wrong people? I know, I know. You can't be killed if you don't exist.

They are all f****** crazy. Quote: She added, “President Trump does not bluff and he is prepared to unleash hell. Iran should not miscalculate again.”
1
AdCharacter7966 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Let us get this war behind us, focus on epstein files again, and see which country our Peace President will attack next?
1
jtan212 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Ugh, sorry to say, this is bad for US.. They are negotiating, by the way,” Trump claimed of Iran. “They want to make a deal so badly but they are afraid to say it. Because they figure they will be killed by their own people. They are also afraid they will be killed by us.” Change they to US. This is projection

1
zzzyyyxxxqqq Mar 26, 2026 +1
Believe you me, Iran has never indicated wanting to negotiate with Vance. There is no statement from Iran on this, while there HAVE been other clear statements from them. That idea was floated by “sources”, intermediaries maybe but not on behalf of Iran. Then picked up and twisted by media headlines. A lot of coverage is spin. Search for original sources

Something about the press secretary saying that “The president is ready to unleash hell” makes me chuckle. I don’t know the ins and outs, but doesn’t Satan rule hell? Would Satan control its leash?
