Brother, do I have good news. Doritos dropped by 30% in price two weeks ago. Instead of $5 a bag, they are now $3.50 a bag

There's a joke here about Doritos and buying the dip but I'm too f****** exhausted. Trump rapes children.

And to discover this, were you perchance walking down a hall eating apple slices while another mortal soul was walking down a perpendicular hallway eating Doritos? And the two of you bumped into each other causing your apple slices to fly into the nearly said bag of Doritos?

Trump has not only insulted NATO but they have also insulted its defence pacts with Japan and South Korea .He praised himself by saying how Kim jong un , Putin admires him .
He is really pissed because nobody came to rescue him and ultimately he had to TACO via proxy.

The Iran war didn’t *strain* the alliance.
The Trump administration did. Since the second he stepped in office.
Unequivocally.

Pretty sure his threat to invade Canada and Greenland strained NATO far before Iran

NATO is de facto weakened. The US broke trust and is not a reliable partner. Whether they're officially affiliated or not is a detail.

The fact the US's vice president is also in Hungary as we speak, committing election interference, and talking up Putin's mouse tells you everything you need. The US can no longer be trusted.

Oh. Well, to be fair, they are only restricting flights that are going to bomb Iran. What's happening in Iran is nothing to do with NATO. America hasn't been attacked so no-one is following trump's charge into a middle east mess.

NATO was formed to combat the expansion of the Soviet Union. That was very important to the US, it wasn't just to defend Europe. When the Soviet Union collapsed the US still viewed the communist authoritarian countries (with Russia at the centre) as a threat. Again, it wasn't just to defend Europe.
No country does things out of altruism. The US extends direct military power and soft influence from its presence in NATO countries. The US benefits from intelligence shared from NATO countries.
To date, only the US has invoked Article 5 that calls upon members of the NATO alliance to aid the invoking country. Many members of NATO country's militaries died or didn't come back whole (physically and mentally), because they came to the aid of the US when 9/11 happened. They were very much on the front line, no matter what bullshit trump might say.
Most members of the NATO alliance have scaled back their military spending over the years and relied on the fact that the US is the most military minded of the alliance, but that doesn't mean that the US doesn't benefit from its vast reach into NATO countries. Apart from the extension of hard and soft power, and the intelligence that feeds into the US from NATO members, the US sells an awful lot of military tech to NATO members.
Don't believe all that is said by the current people pulling the US political strings. NATO benefits the US, even if the other members need to raise their military budget, and the loss of NATO directly benefits Russia and China. Many members of trump's circle have connections to Russia, and trump's connections go back decades from his early days as a property developer.
Ask who benefits from the end of NATO. It isn't the US.

> The US extends direct military power and soft influence from its presence in NATO countries.
This is entirely offset by being denying airspace in countries where we fund and staff bases
> Most members of the NATO alliance have scaled back their military spending over the years and relied on the fact that the US is the most military minded of the alliance, but that doesn't mean that the US
The cost benefit analysis of keeping this up had dipped very deep into the negative with being denying airspace, especially from countries like Spain for fucks sake
-2
AraminalApr 8, 2026
+2
The US has not been denied any airspace except for restriction against flights to attack Iran. The US has so much influence in NATO countries, but it doesn't get to do whatever it wants when it starts a random war somewhere.

If you think about 4D chess, Rutte is playing it. He has no big ego and no problem with humiliating himself playing Trump. Whatever you think of his style, Rutte knows exactly what he is doing and I am a 100% sure he is all about keeping NATO strong and the US in it.

playing the long game, Trump is old nearly dead, and if America is not completely cooked can't have another term.
if they vote in another Putin fanboy i guess its over, but he is supposed to swallow his ego and do what may be best long term, its worth waiting this out, but also NATO will have to build many parallel abilities either way, can't rely on the US as much for certain big ticket items, worryingly though France and Germany can't even organize a joint fighter jet.

I was never a Rutte fan. But in this case, he's doing a good job. I understand it's rubbing a lot of people the wrong way. But he needs to buy time for a post-US led NATO. And that means massaging his ego and telling him how rugged and manly he looks.
On a side note, I believe European and Gulf states are giving the US some lessons in diplomacy. Last week for example, France voted in the UN with China and Russia against further escalation. Soon after, France got a ship through the Strait and Iran released two French nationals who had been imprisoned last year.
That is sending a message.

There is a difference between buying time and what he does, he basically pushed that NATO should help in Iran.

It’s no secret that the majority of nato members were not meeting their financial obligations to the alliance. The United States has historically accounted for 47% of the financial burden of nato, nato countries are supposed to spend at least 2 percent of their GDP on defence, that’s just part of being in the alliance, that’s the deal. In 2024 65% of nato members were not spending atleast 2 percent of their gdp on defense. I’m not even from the US but it’s clear that most nations in nato were happy to have the protections that come from being a member of the alliance without actually contributing much if anything towards it. That’s what trump took issue with, which to be fair, is not unreasonable considering Europe needs nato more with the proximity of threats to them. Now the way that trump is handling it, that’s a whole different conversation.
