Didn’t Rubio also announce Epic Fury is over? So both operations are supposedly over yet there’s no deal? Curious

They gotta rename the war every 60 days as a pretense to avoid Congressional oversight.

They should just change the definition of what a “day” means to avoid the time limit. Like they did with tariffs. https://rollcall.com/2025/03/18/house-majority-rules-when-a-calendar-day-isnt-what-it-seems/

The world likes when something is predictable. The only predictability we have towards the US is that it's likely to change, at anytime, depending on how he feels.

> it's likely to change, at anytime, depending on how he feels. No, it's likely to change, at anytime, depending on how profitable it is. This is all market manipulation and the fact that the markets continue to adjust based on these random utterances is just another example of what a joke it has become. His completely random commentary results in obvious shifts (when you know what he will do and say ahead of time) in the market that he and his cronies make bank every single time.

I don't understand why anyone would take him seriously anymore. His word is worth less than nothing.
55
Protean_Protein May 6, 2026 +42
They don’t take _him_ seriously. But the office he holds, and the associated geopolitical baggage, is necessarily still taken seriously, regardless of the narrative of lost American power (which is undoubtedly partially true, but not as salient as propagandists would have us believe).
42
Roxalon_Prime May 6, 2026 +29
In other words it is completely unimportant what he says, but what he does is still very very important.

This is why the entire US political system is broken, one man in a decade took over an entire party on lies and broken promises. Stacked the deck and loaded up on yes men and women for his Administration and the courts. It will happen again, Politics is all about money and power these days.
29
roma258 May 6, 2026 +12
Yes, America can still f*** shit up nice and good- witness Iran. My point is his words are meaningless, he changes positions and tactics 5 times per week. From the inside looking out, the best the rest of the sane world can do is tell him to f*** off. If they try to humor him, he'll only take advantage. Like any bully, they smell weakness and exploit it, but back down the moment they're shown any actual pushback.
12
Filthybuttslut May 6, 2026 +16
Wild cope. One man can decide to swing his d*** around thru a globally crucial chokepoint, cry shocked Pikachu when the people he decided to start bombing play the one geopolitical card they have, that EVERYONE knew they would, and then cry their allies aren't coming to help? American soft power is over, by their own choice. You think all those folks in Indiana are pissed about what gas and food costs? They got to vote for this clown.
16

I’m not American. I’m recognizing why people still take the insane shithead in the White House seriously.

MAGA couldn't even stay mad at gas prices. They bitched a little, acted concerned, looked over at their fellow MAGAs, saw they were still loyal and not doing anything about it, and fell back in line.

The most intuitive version of this I e seen so far is that currently, Dems like corporate capitalism (which requires stability and large projects to build long term payoffs) and Republicans like disaster capitalism (which requires in stability and sudden fear to create short term layoffs).

7
eobanb May 6, 2026 +64
It's amazing how good GOP officials have gotten at referring questions to someone else. 'Ask the White House' Central Command says. Then you ask Leavitt the same question and she refers you to Trump. Then Trump says he hasn't heard about whatever issue you're asking about. Does anyone know what the f***'s going on or how to answer a basic question?

Yeah, contempt of Congress is only a theoretical power if no one has the balls to use it. But Congress absolutely has the power to solve this if they gave half a shit in aggregate.
3
endeend8 May 5, 2026 +54
Probably because of more laundry fires. Even if US ships shoot down all the incoming Iranian missiles thats still costing couple $Xm for each interceptor. They're likely also firing several at each incoming missile just to make sure at least one of them intercepts it too. Trump pooping bricks looking at the bill.
54
Lunar_BriseSoleil May 5, 2026 +34

24
Plappedudel May 5, 2026 +44
Missile economics are always in favor of the attacker, by a huge margin. And Iran is well-known for its ballistic missile arsenal. The US could realistically run out of interceptors if the war is resumed. I think this is an essential reason why Trump keeps extending the ceasefire even though no diplomatic progress has been made.
44
sadacal May 6, 2026 +13
Trump is extending the ceasefire because his administration is trying to argue the war powers act only applies to days of active fighting and that he doesn't need to get his war approved by congress yet because there hasn't been 60 days of active fighting yet due to the ceasefire.
13
Got_Engineers May 5, 2026 +10
I haven’t been able to find too much specifics on this, but I’m just going to continue to assume that there are a lot of parts in missiles that the United States military uses that are not produced in the United States. Like magnets and rare earth minerals. I know that parts sourced from outside the United States from Europe in Asia for US military
10
77NorthCambridge May 5, 2026 +10
Yes, and China controls those rare earth materials.
10
Hautamaki May 6, 2026 +7
Well also because he's run out of time. The War Powers Act gives a strict 60 day deadline to wage military operations without congressional approval. By claiming there's a ceasefire in place even though both sides are still shooting, he's cheated the limit by over a week now, but that can only go on for so much longer. If he's found in violation of the War Powers Act, it's a huge problem. A constitutional crisis, for starters. The military swears an oath to the constitution, not the president, so it's likely there would be mass resignations in protest if Trump ordered the military to ignore congress and the courts. There's also the fact that hypothetically anyone who has been harmed by the war would have standing to sue the administration for damages and injunctions to cease military operations. It's a never-tested area of constitutional law, nobody knows how it would all shake out. Trump's typical move in these situations is just back down quietly while extremely loudly doing something else to take all attention away from his back down though, like when he quietly backed down on Greenland but then attacked Iran. He has probably wanted to quietly back down on Iran and then invade Cuba for a couple weeks now. His only problem is that the Iranians are not cooperating and letting him back down quietly, and they retain the capacity to crash the global economy, something which can make a lot of noise whether Trump likes it or not.
7
rabidstoat May 6, 2026 +8
There's not going to be a constitutional crisis if he ignores the War Powers Act, because he's not going to come out and say that he's ignoring it. He's going to play games with it, like stopping Epic Fury and then a week later starting a new operation and claiming that it restarts the clock. Clinton had 60 days for his bombing campaign in Kosovo, and he went past that by a few weeks. Obama had 60 days for strikes in Libya and he went past that too. But they justify it by taking advantage of the vagueness of the law, and arguing definitions. What does "self-defense" mean? "Imminence"? "Hostilities"? And though people have spoken out against it (like they are now), it happened and didn't lead to a constitutional crisis.

MukdenMan May 6, 2026 +15
Unpopular opinion but I don’t believe the social media narrative about the markets, at least not for every event and not the extent that every top comment suggests. I’ve seen - the markets just opened - the markets just closed - the markets are closed because it’s weekend - the markets will close soon - the markets will open soon It just seems like people take any story and then state the current status of the market as if it’s explanatory. It’s a Tuesday; the markets are closed but will open tomorrow so the timing isn’t really explanatory.
15
phiber232 May 6, 2026 +21
While I agree with not everything he blurts out is market manipulation there has been sooo many tweets right before the futures open on Sunday and they all look like they are made to calm the market.
21
MukdenMan May 6, 2026 +10
Every tweet he makes seems made to calm the market because they are always about how great he’s doing, that a deal is around the corner, that things are going better than expected etc. It’s not like he is saying negative things about himself to short the market. Case in point: today is a Tuesday. People are still saying it’s market manipulation and it’s the most upvoted comment.

12
DickelPick69 May 6, 2026 +10
The actual situation is the US admin doesn’t want to get further embarrassed by losing irreplaceable strategic military assets over their nut flex. But they also don’t want to look weak by backing down so they’re again lying that talks look promising while neither side is even close to the others demands. Tomorrow Iran will say there are no talks and the equity market won’t give a f*** as usual until the global economy is past the tipping point. Obligatory; thanks Obama/s
10
Gustomucho May 6, 2026 +87
And the fact that he could literally just tell the navy to leave and the strait would be open, even if ships have to pay 2 million to cross it would still be much cheaper than $100/barrel… This doofus and the administration just cannot accept the L.

One Maersk ship did accept it after getting US forces on board and being escorted by frigates, apaches and various other forces and Iran still shot at them. So yeah, its not going to work.
7
meganthem May 6, 2026 +3
I half expect the story will eventually end up that we crewed the ship entirely because random civilians would want no part of it.
3
Unfrozen__Caveman May 6, 2026 +12
There's a recording of one of the people aboard a ship there now and this is exactly what they said. They're not risking their safety based on something the US president says.
12
Polygnom May 6, 2026 +4
Also, the two navy ships barely made it through and had to use all their bells and whistles. Its simply impossible for the US navy to protect a civilian ship. Iran showed them who has the cards, plain and simple.
4
LionTigerWings May 6, 2026 +3
Yep. If you apply simple logic? How many civilians are willing to enter a warzone that not only can get their human lives killed, but can destroy their precious oil. If I’m an oil company, I’m not crossing till I’m convinced it’s safe.

As a Brit, I was shocked by all the BS rhetoric from Trump, but never thought even he would be stupid enough to try and attack Iran FFS !!! I can blame the MAGA morons for not knowing he was gonna be a dumpster fire for the USA as a country, but only a Chinese Professor Jiang predicted he would attack Iran, and posted his lecture about how it would happen in scarily accurate detail on YouTube BEFORE Trump was elected. Only thing he got wrong was he thought Nikki Haley would be VP 🤪

Tibbaryllis2 May 6, 2026 +44
On election night, I was watching global coverage and some dude with the BBC was apparently interviewing Palestinian people in Palestine about the election, and the general response was they thought the US electing Trump would be better for them. It was at that point I turned off the coverage and called it a night (at like 6pm), because I knew how it was going to play out.

Icelander here with family in Greenland. I’m absolutely terrified that the f****** yanks will attack Greenland. There are at least three more years of this, but more likely decades.

FixedFun1 May 6, 2026 +4
Well, you know, if they didn't vote for Trump, the "woke mind virus" would've won. And we all know gay or trans people are not normal... have you seen non-binary people, all they ask is that you use "they" instead of "he" or "she", what a disgrace!!! I'm joking but some people truly believe these propagandist lies.

asyouuuuuuwishhhhh May 5, 2026 +16
Gas prices in Toronto set to jump another 7c tomorrow. Almost 2$/L now. Thanks Trump
16
Whisky-Slayer May 6, 2026 +9
The funny thing is “thanks Obama” was used to disparage. But Trump will take it as approval
9
asyouuuuuuwishhhhh May 6, 2026 +8
I don’t f****** care what the idiot president of the United States thinks. He has created an energy crisis out of nothing.
8
Otis_Inf May 6, 2026 +6
Here in the netherlands it's €2.63/L

riedhenry May 5, 2026 +14
Dude is a walking disaster, a barely walking disaster
14
nboro94 May 6, 2026 +4
It's only a disaster for us regular folk just trying to survive in a world that's now very hostile towards us on all fronts. It's a win for rich people who will continue to benefit financially from this for the foreseeable future.
4
JWBIERE May 5, 2026 +646
Market manipulation again, wash rinse repeat.
646
Force_Hammer May 5, 2026 +194
Yes. But also because he probably realized escorting ships would never work. Also, I'm also guessing that there's no actual progress with any deals with Iran
194
JWBIERE May 5, 2026 +119
Hard to negotiate when you are at the table by yourself. Dude is a clown.
119
Disused_Yeti May 6, 2026 +13
he's got all the cards! playing 52 pickup, no one else in sight
13
Davidx91 May 6, 2026 +24
He’s never as president realized anything. He gets briefed with f****** pictures, and if it’s not pictures it’s an oral summary. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-latest-pictures-intelligence-briefings-new-report-a7763831.html https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-gets-daily-video-montage-briefing-iran-war-rcna263912 10 years later and it’s just no different. He hasn’t realized anything.
24
Aliensinmypants May 6, 2026 +22
100% Iran would fire at the ship in US e***** to see if we'd risk using some of our already dwindling supply of IAMD missiles defending them or if we would lose even more face letting a ship we're escorting get smacked
22
Key-Amoeba1095 May 6, 2026 +16
I feel like they're really underselling the toll that run took on the 2 ships yesterday. Imagine they were puckered tight the entire time just blazing guns up the whole way. And yeah, burning millions in ammunition to protect against drones that cost a few thousand. Yeah. That was never going to work. Why the f*** is Trump making unilateral military decisions anyway? Someone put him in front of the iPad so whatever adults left can form a coherent plan.
16
roosterthumper May 6, 2026 +14
His team fired the adults for disagreeing with their wet dreams of being real grown up boys. We’re left with talk show hosts and failed reality tv personalities surrounded by plastic stepford wives.
14
whomad1215 May 6, 2026 +3
don't forget the entire republican party in the house/senate/scotus also supporting this by not stopping him
3
TurboMollusk May 5, 2026 +25
Stop the apologetics of giving their insane impulsive decisions a rational explanation.
25
mhks May 5, 2026 +6
The thing is: we know this will be the MO. The question is: what's the right play for us to make money off this?
6
Altruistic_Finger669 May 6, 2026 +3
I think it can be bith market manipulation but also Trump panicking and raging out. I think he flips out, makes a decision, people around him makes bets, then his people explain the consequences and then he backs down "Oh...our ships could get attacked and i could get blamed?" "Iran might strike everywhere they can get hits and i would be forced to escalate which i REALLY dont want to do"
3
j_la May 6, 2026 +6
For me, this has been the most illustrative thing about this whole mess: the market makes no f****** sense. It’s all hopium. Traders desperately want things to go up so they race like lemmings in pursuit of every bit of good news, as if Trump actually had a concept of a plan. He’s not going to change.
6
noage May 5, 2026 +179
It turns out just shouting random things on Twitter doesn't turn into an actual action plan that's viable
179
kp33ze May 6, 2026 +37
To be fair traditional media are f****** idiots and will plaster anything he tweets everywhere on a 24hr news cycle.
37
Turbots May 6, 2026 +4
They only do it because enough idiots read the articles and watch the ads that make the media their money. It's all about MONEY.
4
Enshakushanna May 6, 2026 +4
you think ship insurance is gonna let them steam through? are the insurance companies and the US in talks for the Us to accept responsibility if they cant stop all the missiles/drones? did donny or his stupid admin even think of this? no? then ofc no one is gonna pass why is this admin SO F****** STUPID i cant stand it, im just a f****** random 30 something on the internet and even i considered this, why arent these "professionals"??
4
CunningAlpaca May 6, 2026 +55
And this comes just a few hours after Rubio had a press conference talking up Project Freedom, emphasizing how urgent it is to e***** the ships.. It's wild how disorganized this administration is - what a total disaster. Different messages coming from everyone, they're seemingly just winging it.. no direction whatsoever or plan.
55
HB97082 May 6, 2026 +10

“cites Iran deal progress”…🤣🤣🤣
74

I think he meant regress
20
hotlavatube May 6, 2026 +3
Plausible given he doesn't know the difference between excursion and incursion.
3
Ok-Youth-160 May 6, 2026 +8
And I'm gonna have sex with Scarlett Johansson. She doesn't really know it but the deal is being finalized.
8
TheKriegerVan May 5, 2026 +62
Minutes after market close, like clockwork
62
Disc0Disc0Disc0 May 5, 2026 +171
Pauses it cause they couldn't stop ships from getting hit 🤣
171
DunkingTea May 5, 2026 +55
Even if ships don’t get hit, it’s probably not cost effective to shoot down anything incoming. I can see a huge fee being applied to escorting ships, and the grifting continues
55
rizzyrogues May 5, 2026 +18
Trump bills every ship that passes through for operating costs of all US naval warships in the area and expended ammunition during their transit time.
18
joelfarris May 5, 2026 +19
And what do we call a fee that's paid to an e***** again?
19
Blue-snow May 5, 2026 +11
I'm not sure, but I bet Melania would know all about this
11
Rand_str May 5, 2026 +6
That will destroy the US's relationship with every gulf country, lose their bases in the middle east, destroy Israel's relationship with the gulf countries, shore up Hamas's position and reduce the effectiveness of an American response to a future attack on Israel. Not to mention sky high oil prices.
6
Annual-Reason2970 May 6, 2026 +3
all it takes is one and nobody will risk it

How can you pause something that didn't start? Taco Tuesday
15

Sure sure. It has nothing to do with the fact that people told him how terrible of an idea it would be.

Grand opening! Grand Closing!
10
derpygoat May 6, 2026 +10
All this back and forth shit will eventually catch up to world markets when the reality of jet fuel and fertilizer works it way through the in transit economic pipelines. For Iran, they are already in the worst case scenario. All they have to do is last long enough to bring everyone else along for the ride. Any deal without a security guarantee from someone that’s not the US is worthless.

"CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper [told reporters](https://www.centcom.mil/MEDIA/Transcripts/Article/4477143/adm-brad-cooper-centcom-commander-conducts-a-media-conference-call/) the same day that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “launched multiple cruise missiles, drones and small boats **at ships we are protecting."** US Navy: Would anyone else like an e***** through the strait? tankers: Nope we're good😳
22
Morgannin09 May 5, 2026 +9
It's over. Complete victory. All objectives accomplished. We'll start again on Friday.
9
Best_Biscuits May 6, 2026 +8
"deal progress" - i.e., Iran decided to shoot at US Navy ships, neighbors, and other ships. TACO says there's a "deal in progress"....
8
BicFleetwood May 6, 2026 +6
So the US ships were hit way harder than anyone is reporting.
6
Garionreturns2 May 5, 2026 +42
TACO as usual.

TACO TUESDAY
6
Altruistic_Finger669 May 6, 2026 +5
Jesus christ. This is just beyond imcompetence at this point. Its just so clear that trump just flips out about something, forces a decision and then they need to explain to him the consequences of said decision and then he backs down.
5
To-Far-Away-Times May 6, 2026 +5
Best case scenario, things will be slightly worse than they were before Trump launched his war on Iran. I don’t see how he gets out of this without surrendering. It really is Diddling Donny’s Dumbass Desert Disaster.
5
ProfessorZhu May 6, 2026 +6
Alternate headline "Trump lied again, after the Navy repeatedly said they couldn't do it. We believed him anyways, why do you still listen to us?"
6
Polygnom May 6, 2026 +6
Two navy ships barely made it through, using all their bells and whistles. They realize they may be able to cross with them, but boy do they NOT have the ability to protect civilian ships doing it. Thats the "deal progress". They got shown who has the cards.
6
doolpicate May 6, 2026 +6
Morale on those US Navy ships must be very high. LOL.
6
mhks May 5, 2026 +6
If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.
6
Deervember May 6, 2026 +8
The stock market is corrupt and shouldn't be manipulated this way.
8
chriskot123 May 6, 2026 +5
Man, if only the Iran had previously allowed ships to pass through the strait freely we wouldn’t have had to go to war to stop them…oh wait
5
Roadtrippers4 May 6, 2026 +5
Hahahahahahahahahaha! Deals deals deals everywhere but nowhere to be found.
5
TonySu May 6, 2026 +4
So this is what happens when, instead of being given a stack of military and intelligence briefings, you give the command-in-chief a deck of UNO cards and let him pick his favourite.
4
Zieprus_ May 6, 2026 +4
Nothing to do with discussions with Iran. They invested a lot to get one ship across with thousands to go just wasn’t possible for the US to do it.
4
3nz3r0 May 6, 2026 +4
Look everyone! It's the weekly Trump and Dump right on schedule.
4
KnucklesMcGee May 6, 2026 +4
They never had even a concept of a plan
4
McortezLSU May 6, 2026 +4
Translation: "There are too few ships that will pay 'The Protection Fee' in my black accounts"
4
FrodoFraggins May 6, 2026 +4
What's more likely is he couldn't protect the civilian ships he promised to e*****
4
SinsOfTheAether May 6, 2026 +3
he has no cards
3
riko77can May 5, 2026 +3
Yeah, Iran dealt some missiles into the gulf. Progress.
3
Skinnieguy May 5, 2026 +3
Sounds like a distraction from the ICE and east wing bill.
3

Nothing news honestly…let’s see those Epstein files.

CremeAcrobatic1748 May 6, 2026 +3
You can pretty accurately track the days of the week by listening to Trump.

Wouldn’t trust this pedophile to sit the right way on a toilet seat.
3
Frognaros May 6, 2026 +3
Trump even failed this e***** service? Guess pimpin' ain't so easy.
3
hoxxxxx May 6, 2026 +3

3
mossyskeleton May 6, 2026 +3
"they started shooting at us and blowing up oil wells so I'm going to back off and pretend like we're working things out"
3
Blueopus2 May 6, 2026 +3
That was even quicker than I expected!
3
Cactusfan86 May 6, 2026 +3
Amazing!  There is weekly great progress on negotiations yet somehow a deal never gets finished
3
Salientfox May 6, 2026 +3
If there is one thing this whole thing has shown us, it’s that the US stock market is completely untethered from reality. It’s so easy to manipulate out in the open. They must really think we are stupid- and I guess they are right because people seem to just go along with it
3
zenithfury May 6, 2026 +3
For a 'war', one side sure is allowed to do whatever they want and the other side seems to want to time announcements just before markets close for the weekends.
3
totally_anomalous May 6, 2026 +3
What did you expect! It's TACO Tuesday
3
PensiveinNJ May 6, 2026 +3
They tried the "e*****" thing and Iran set the ship on fire, so now we're backing to pretend deal making.
3
tinker_townie May 6, 2026 +3
It must be Tuesday.
3
Cold_Specialist_3656 May 6, 2026 +3
Interesting that they didn't cite the ships being shot at with a dozen missiles and drones LMAO
3
nativeridge_ May 6, 2026 +3
I am just surprised that out of all this with the Trump-Epstein Republicans calling out Allies "for help/don't need your help/should be helping" depending on which way the wind is blowing. There is NOTHING reported in regards to what Israel is doing to help with the heavy lifting of this war of choice.
3
H3NDOAU May 6, 2026 +3
Oh it's TACO tuesday again?
3
EmmaFrostBroken May 6, 2026 +3
Deal progress = running away with tail between legs again
3
