The world likes when something is predictable. The only predictability we have towards the US is that it's likely to change, at anytime, depending on how he feels.
> it's likely to change, at anytime, depending on how he feels.
No, it's likely to change, at anytime, depending on how profitable it is. This is all market manipulation and the fact that the markets continue to adjust based on these random utterances is just another example of what a joke it has become. His completely random commentary results in obvious shifts (when you know what he will do and say ahead of time) in the market that he and his cronies make bank every single time.

As long as they think he's hurting the people they despise more than he's hurting them they will stick with him. Its a psychological wage more valuable to them than an actual wage.
That is what conservatism has always been. For example, in 1873, during Reconstruction, the Richmond Whig newspaper ran an editorial [that said:](https://i.imgur.com/a60SZYn.jpeg)
> *If it were true that negro ascendancy and Radical rule were essential to material development we know the people of Virginia would scorn it as a thing accursed, if purchased at such a price. Better poverty and all the misery it entails*.
> *'Better the bed of straw and crust of bread
than the negro's heel upon the white man's head.'*
They got their wish too — nearly a century of jim crow fascism that kept black people down, but also kept poor whites down too. Jim crow is the main reason the South is the most economically depressed region of the US.
The covid vax is another example. For a brief glorious moment we had a taste of socialized medicine — anyone could get the covid vaccine for free, and in many cases without any paperwork. It was proof that we can *all* have nice things.
Conservatives saw black and brown being treated the same as whites and it made them so god damn angry that [over 200,000 of them rage quit from life.](https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/3459664-quarter-of-us-covid-19-deaths-could-have-been-prevented-by-vaccination-analysis/) It made them so god damn angry that they elected a paedo who promised to take *every* vaccine away from *everyone.*
Conservatives would rather rule in Hell than share Heaven with the people they despise.

Missile economics are always in favor of the attacker, by a huge margin. And Iran is well-known for its ballistic missile arsenal. The US could realistically run out of interceptors if the war is resumed. I think this is an essential reason why Trump keeps extending the ceasefire even though no diplomatic progress has been made.
44
sadacalMay 6, 2026
+13
Trump is extending the ceasefire because his administration is trying to argue the war powers act only applies to days of active fighting and that he doesn't need to get his war approved by congress yet because there hasn't been 60 days of active fighting yet due to the ceasefire.
13
Got_EngineersMay 5, 2026
+10
I haven’t been able to find too much specifics on this, but I’m just going to continue to assume that there are a lot of parts in missiles that the United States military uses that are not produced in the United States. Like magnets and rare earth minerals. I know that parts sourced from outside the United States from Europe in Asia for US military
10
77NorthCambridgeMay 5, 2026
+10
Yes, and China controls those rare earth materials.
10
HautamakiMay 6, 2026
+7
Well also because he's run out of time. The War Powers Act gives a strict 60 day deadline to wage military operations without congressional approval. By claiming there's a ceasefire in place even though both sides are still shooting, he's cheated the limit by over a week now, but that can only go on for so much longer. If he's found in violation of the War Powers Act, it's a huge problem. A constitutional crisis, for starters. The military swears an oath to the constitution, not the president, so it's likely there would be mass resignations in protest if Trump ordered the military to ignore congress and the courts. There's also the fact that hypothetically anyone who has been harmed by the war would have standing to sue the administration for damages and injunctions to cease military operations. It's a never-tested area of constitutional law, nobody knows how it would all shake out.
Trump's typical move in these situations is just back down quietly while extremely loudly doing something else to take all attention away from his back down though, like when he quietly backed down on Greenland but then attacked Iran. He has probably wanted to quietly back down on Iran and then invade Cuba for a couple weeks now. His only problem is that the Iranians are not cooperating and letting him back down quietly, and they retain the capacity to crash the global economy, something which can make a lot of noise whether Trump likes it or not.
7
rabidstoatMay 6, 2026
+8
There's not going to be a constitutional crisis if he ignores the War Powers Act, because he's not going to come out and say that he's ignoring it. He's going to play games with it, like stopping Epic Fury and then a week later starting a new operation and claiming that it restarts the clock.
Clinton had 60 days for his bombing campaign in Kosovo, and he went past that by a few weeks. Obama had 60 days for strikes in Libya and he went past that too. But they justify it by taking advantage of the vagueness of the law, and arguing definitions. What does "self-defense" mean? "Imminence"? "Hostilities"?
And though people have spoken out against it (like they are now), it happened and didn't lead to a constitutional crisis.

Unpopular opinion but I don’t believe the social media narrative about the markets, at least not for every event and not the extent that every top comment suggests. I’ve seen
- the markets just opened
- the markets just closed
- the markets are closed because it’s weekend
- the markets will close soon
- the markets will open soon
It just seems like people take any story and then state the current status of the market as if it’s explanatory. It’s a Tuesday; the markets are closed but will open tomorrow so the timing isn’t really explanatory.

And this comes just a few hours after Rubio had a press conference talking up Project Freedom, emphasizing how urgent it is to e***** the ships.. It's wild how disorganized this administration is - what a total disaster. Different messages coming from everyone, they're seemingly just winging it.. no direction whatsoever or plan.

Even if ships don’t get hit, it’s probably not cost effective to shoot down anything incoming. I can see a huge fee being applied to escorting ships, and the grifting continues

Trump bills every ship that passes through for operating costs of all US naval warships in the area and expended ammunition during their transit time.

That will destroy the US's relationship with every gulf country, lose their bases in the middle east, destroy Israel's relationship with the gulf countries, shore up Hamas's position and reduce the effectiveness of an American response to a future attack on Israel. Not to mention sky high oil prices.

All this back and forth shit will eventually catch up to world markets when the reality of jet fuel and fertilizer works it way through the in transit economic pipelines.
For Iran, they are already in the worst case scenario. All they have to do is last long enough to bring everyone else along for the ride. Any deal without a security guarantee from someone that’s not the US is worthless.

"CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper [told reporters](https://www.centcom.mil/MEDIA/Transcripts/Article/4477143/adm-brad-cooper-centcom-commander-conducts-a-media-conference-call/) the same day that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “launched multiple cruise missiles, drones and small boats **at ships we are protecting."**

"deal progress" - i.e., Iran decided to shoot at US Navy ships, neighbors, and other ships.

Jesus christ. This is just beyond imcompetence at this point.
Its just so clear that trump just flips out about something, forces a decision and then they need to explain to him the consequences of said decision and then he backs down.

Best case scenario, things will be slightly worse than they were before Trump launched his war on Iran.
I don’t see how he gets out of this without surrendering.

Two navy ships barely made it through, using all their bells and whistles. They realize they may be able to cross with them, but boy do they NOT have the ability to protect civilian ships doing it.
Thats the "deal progress". They got shown who has the cards.

Nothing to do with discussions with Iran. They invested a lot to get one ship across with thousands to go just wasn’t possible for the US to do it.

If there is one thing this whole thing has shown us, it’s that the US stock market is completely untethered from reality.
