What's with him and prizes? The dementia grandpa also thinks Iran gave him a really nice prize.

He's just desperate for attention. It's laughably pathetic aka "trumpery". >trumpery /trŭm′pə-rē/ >noun >Showy but worthless finery; bric-a-brac. >Nonsense; rubbish. >Deception; trickery; fraud.

He's stunted at the level of a seven-year old and has admitted/bragged as much. Imagine the self-centered joy and tantrums of a child around the idea of birthday gifts and when they're not being the one receiving the gifts.  Everything about Trump makes sense if you've had to deal with an angry emotional child. They're practically identical. Now give that child nukes and a literal lifetime of nobody ever telling him no. He's not complex.

His ego feeds on adoration, genuine or otherwise. And if there's a prize, he believes he should have it.  Kind of how Putin stole Bob Krafts superbowl ring. Putin had done nothing to serve it, but on his mind he did deserve it because he wanted it.

He's like the Soviet leader Brezhnev, who was very vain. >The last years of Brezhnev's rule were marked by a growing personality cult. His love of medals (he received over 100) was well known, so in December 1966, on his 60th birthday, he was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union. Brezhnev received the award, which came with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star, three more times in celebration of his birthdays.\[191\] On his 70th birthday he was awarded the rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union's highest military honour. After being awarded the rank, he attended an 18th Army Veterans meeting, dressed in a long coat and saying "Attention, the Marshal is coming!" He also conferred upon himself the rare Order of Victory in 1978, which was posthumously revoked in 1989 for not meeting the criteria for citation. A promotion to the rank of Generalissimo of the Soviet Union, planned for Brezhnev's seventy-fifth birthday, was quietly shelved due to his ongoing health problems.\[192\] Brezhnev's eagerness for undeserved glory was shown by his memoirs recalling his military service during World War II, which treated the minor battles near Novorossiysk as a decisive military theatre.\[129\] Despite his book's apparent weaknesses, it was awarded the Lenin Prize for Literature and was hailed by the Soviet press.\[192\] The book was followed by two other books, one on the Virgin Lands campaign.\[193\] Of course, he was the butt of the jokes because of all those undeserved medals and awards. Basically the USA is now kinda like the Soviet Union before its collapse.

My guess is he probably won’t show up to your event if there isn’t some kind of trinket. Maybe they had donors there and they’d be screwed if he didn’t show up

"Oh no! The jingling my keys isn't working anymore. We need to hold a 'praise meeting' and say nice things about him. That always calms him down when he's getting a little cranky." - Republicans

Trump feels the walls closing in, and that makes him dangerous at an existential level. Trump would nuke the world and take us all with him before he'd be willing to face the consequences of his actions.

ghostsolid Mar 26, 2026 +5
As nuts as this sounds it really is possible and it’s also nuts that republicans and a few dems won’t stand up to this madness and just impeach him. All you billionaires who are controlling the puppet strings from behind the scenes… listen up! Ruling over a nuked world won’t be much fun without all of us in it. I don’t care how nice your bunker is… put a stop to this madness!

They really really don't and they never will. This is why it's so important to vote in November.

*AKA as: F your golden prize, get me out of this situation I created on my own or they are going to impeach my ass, you sycophantic morons.* "His rant took place less than a day after House Republicans [awarded him a made-up prize, the “America First” award,](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-republican-fundraiser-speech-award-b2945851.html) at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual fundraising gala." "House Speaker Mike Johnson called the prize a “beautiful golden statue … appropriate for the new golden era in America.” "In a Thursday morning rant on Truth Social, he demanded Republican senators employ a parliamentary maneuver that would let them push any legislation through the Senate by ending the chamber’s 60-vote supermajority requirement for most bills and use that new power to end a weeks-long impasse over funding for the [Department of Homeland Security](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/department-of-homeland-security) instead of negotiating with [Democrats](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/democrats) over whether immigration agents can enter private homes without warrants." “When is ‘enough, enough’ for our Republican Senators. There comes a time when you must do what should have been done a long time ago, and something which the Lunatic Democrats will do on day one, if they ever get the chance,” he wrote. “TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and get our airports, and everything else, moving again.” "Trump also urged senators to “add the complete, all five items, SAVE AMERICA ACT items” and Go for the Gold” by doing so. The “five items” he was referring to include a host of new proposed limits on voting by mail and onerous national voter registration procedures that could disenfranchise millions of Americans based on flimsy conspiracy theories about non-citizen voting." "Not long after, he repeated his all-caps demand for senators to “TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER” in a separate post before lashing out a third time against Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, who he called a “ a desperate, crippled politician” while suggesting that Republicans should threaten to enact the rule change if he does not “make a deal” to reopen DHS." "Trump has rejected senators’ efforts to craft a compromise package that would fund TSA and other DHS components while leaving funding for ICE to a separate process." "Instead, he has ordered ICE personnel to deploy at airports and has suggested National Guard soldiers could fill in for absent TSA workers, though neither group has the specialized training needed to operate airport security checkpoints." "His demand for new voting restrictions and refusal to allow a compromise to end the DHS funding impasse is his latest expression of anxiety about voting with just seven months remaining until Americans will vote on whether Republicans should retain the unified control of Washington they have had since Trump and a GOP-led Congress took power in January of last year."

he has already made the house impotent, now he wants to strip the senate of power too. dangerous times, only one election away from being an autocracy.

somebody needs to spank this guy. Holy shit. >His rant took place less than a day after House Republicans awarded him a made-up prize, the “America First” award, at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual fundraising gala. >House Speaker Mike Johnson called the prize a “beautiful golden statue … appropriate for the new golden era in America.” clearly the gene for embarrassment has been bred out of republicans.

You know he's already talked shit about one of the gifts to someone giving him another one.  It dangerous to appease a narcissist. They can only use so much of the energy of those obviously against him. Their attempt to satisfy him only opens them up to manipulation and they will need to sacrifice more and more to stay in his favor, worsening the outcome in the end.  Trump doesn't have a bus, he throwing them under a train.

Was kind of hoping the enough in the headline was in regards to him gaining a shred of self-awareness and realizing people just give him stuff to make him do things. Alas, he is just mad the fascism isn't going fast enough.

Yet millennials are mocked with us having received participation trophies as literal children…that were given to us by boomers and Gen X people. Cool.

I am middle genX, I received participation trophies for youth sports. We didn't make them up. Boomers and silent gen did.

Ok_Ease2913 Mar 26, 2026 +2
The "golden prize" is just the latest deposit in a bank account that’s already overdrawn on loyalty. it doesn't matter if they hand him the keys to the kingdom at 2 AM; by 4 AM he's already on truth social screaming because the keys weren't shiny enough or someone looked at him sideways in 2012. at this point, republicans acting surprised is the most tired trope in american politics. they keep feeding the leopard thinking it won't eat *their* face this time.
2
therealvladimir_0 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I don't think back his day the concept of a participation trophy existed so he is making up for it now.

Democrats should not interfere with Trump’s destruction of the Republican Party. This is basic strategy.

Please end the filibuster. The filibuster is only there by tradition and can be terminated any time. It helps Democrats if the filibuster is eliminated, the Senate is just broken right now.
