Trump renews criticism of Japan, S Korea for not helping U.S. in Iran war
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his criticism of Japan, South Korea, Australia and the NATO alliance over his claim they have not adequately helped the United States in its war against Iran. "We got 50,000 soldiers in Japan to protect them from North Korea. We have 45,000 soldiers…

Any country who isn't on the receiving end of a Trump tantrum needs to take some time to reflect and work out where they went wrong.

Russia seems to be getting off easy. Some would even say that they're being rewarded with zero tariff threats and removed sanctions. I wonder why that is?

Interesting indeed, considering that apparently Russia provided Iran targeting data with which they were able to blow up one of American AWACS airplanes on the runway. Those are very critical, and the US military only has about 15 of them in total. But yeah, not a peep about the Russians. He did go after NATO again though.
32
xternocleidomastoide Apr 11, 2026 +12
Weren't Russians putting bounties on NATO soldiers in Afghanistan during his 1st term? And he still rolled the red carpet for Putin.
12
phido3000 Apr 11, 2026 +7
Australia has an e7 awacs in the middle east in uae at uae request ensuring more f15 don't get shot down by f18s.. and ensuring 250,000 tourists can get out of the region. Still criticised them... Also there has been no formal request from the us, for anything.. Even if you help, you still get shit.

Aggravating_Law_1335 Apr 11, 2026 +10
russians have investements in the trump organization and to say that there a conflict of interest would be an understatement

ironically Russia supported Iran and didn't get a bad word said about them. guess we gotta support Iran to get in the good books.

Russia had its oil restrictions lifted by the US 48 hours before the war.

Faroe Islands is pulling off a master class in diplomacy during the Trump era.
14
Wonderful-Pause1048 Apr 11, 2026 +5
This question does not arise for any uninvolved country, since it has absolutely nothing to do with Trump's belligerence.
5
Either_Candy5687 Apr 11, 2026 +3
But they're likely having their economy kneecapped by it anyway.
3
Spazicon Apr 12, 2026 +2
Clearly, countries that are being yelled at by Donald are at least paying some attention to what is actually good for their own citizenry. It must be nice not to exist in order to Make Israel Great Again.
2
Eikfo Apr 11, 2026 +1
Well you know... The agent orange probably doesn't know most of the countries so they might not have done anything wrong even if he doesn't rant against them.

Nope, just remember he suffers of dementia, so he might just have forgotten.

Where they went wrong? They are in the right here. No reason why anyone should join an invasion Trump unilaterally decided to start.

That's what it always said.
5
Repave2348 Apr 11, 2026 +6
Exactly, that's why Orange man is spitting out his dummy at them. Countries that don't receive criticism from Trump are clearly doing something wrong.
6
Key-Rough-8346 Apr 11, 2026 +116
It’s not their war, why would they help? Only an idiot would start a pointless war that restricts 20% of the world’s oil supply.
116
cogit2 Apr 11, 2026 +12
The world didn't join his war and he's wasting time singling them out.

Just a reminder that the constitution the US forced Japan to enact forbids a Japanese offensive military 💀
287
burtgummer45 Apr 11, 2026 +19
Japan has very advanced mine sweepers and the U.S. is not really great for mine sweeping currently. That's why Trump wants them to help out.
19
maknaesensei Apr 11, 2026 +39
Trump just wants an excuse to abandon an ally to the benefit of Russia and China. No one in his administration even knows or cares what a mine sweeper is.
39
burtgummer45 Apr 11, 2026 +3
No seriously, Japan has a serious force of mine sweepers to prevent their island from being locked in by mines, but the U.S. has some old wooden boats because they were planning for the next generation of littoral vessels to have mine sweeping capacity built in and they don't really have that much demand for them anyway.
3
PowerhousePlayer Apr 12, 2026 +3
This is genuinely interesting stuff, but seriously, I guarantee you that nobody in the Trump regime knows about any of this, or would care if you told them.
3
burtgummer45 Apr 12, 2026 -1
That makes no sense. During a war the administration is surrounded with pentagon people, and both the VP and SecDef were in the military.
-1
PowerhousePlayer Apr 12, 2026 +2
> That makes no sense.  Pretty solid summary of the Trump regime, yep.
2
Nelson2165 Apr 12, 2026 +3
While it's true that Japan's minesweepers are highly advanced, they are designed for post-conflict cleanup. They simply lack the defensive and combat capabilities to be deployed into active war zones.
3
burtgummer45 Apr 12, 2026 -2
its not exactly an active war zone, tankers are going through it, they just lost track of some of the mines
-2

Can we have one day without someone to blame, hate, create controversy ? One day only!
50
sask357 Apr 11, 2026 +26
This type of behaviour is an established part of Trump's appeal to American voters, at least enough of them to get elected twice. Few other countries would have elected a politician who erratically changes his mind on important issues, governs through rants on social media, lies incessantly, regularly hands out personal insults aimed at foreign leaders or domestic media, continually threatens to invade allies to seize territory, openly disregards treaties, uses government agencies against opponents, and so on. It's possible that Americans like this kind of excitement.
26
xternocleidomastoide Apr 11, 2026 +4
This is actually very common when involving abusive highly narcissistic personalities pairing with avoidant/codependent ones. The huge emotional high and lows create a sort of "addiction" to the abuser/abuse. Basically, 1/3 of the American population is extremely codependent, likely from being severely emotionally neglected, and has ended up trauma-bonded to the current POTUs.

Sir_Knumskull Apr 11, 2026 +2
Never underestimate anti-immigration sentiments, its the most important issue for tens of millions of people in the west, and they will ignore a lot and rationalize for it.

People criticized the Australian PM, Anthony Albanese, for not commenting on something Trump said. He replied with something along the lines of not providing a running commentary on Trump’s daily announcements.

WePwnTheSky Apr 11, 2026 +2
Sure. The day the orange man perishes. The next day JD couchfucker and friends will pick up right where he left off, but I’m pretty sure we can get one day out of it.
2
dgkimpton Apr 11, 2026 +44
For a country that styles itself as "the worlds policeman" and the "greatest military power on earth" they sure seem to need a lot of help with a small skirmish.
44
GardeniaFrangipani Apr 11, 2026 +17
The US didn’t need anyone’s help, but they could have helped, but the US won on the first day, but nobody helped, but the US helped them, but they really wouldn’t have helped, they would have stayed behind the front line, and they weren’t needed. It was a test and NATO failed. I know I really need to add some block caps.
17
MrArchivity Apr 11, 2026 +6
“It was a test for NATO” Suuuuure And the NA in NATO is for **N**orth **A**tlantic, without even considering is a DEFENSIVE alliance.

Also, it’s not a war, but they won the war, but no-one helped them with the war, which is not a war, and all the objectives of the war - which is absolutely not a war - have been met. Lucky it’s not a war, eh?

Why would they help an Israeli war..
115
Repave2348 Apr 11, 2026 +55
Trump criticises Japan and South Korea for exactly the same reason he criticises all of the USA's traditional allies. They are liberal democracies and not autocracies where the big man in charge can do whatever he wants. Iran made the fatal error of having copious amounts of oil. Just like Venezuela, otherwise they would have been in MAGA's good books. look how they are happy as long as the dictator in charge is *their* dictator.

I don’t understand. This war is won. Iran is obliterated. At least, I’ve heard this multiple times from Trump. What do you need Japan, South Korean, or anyone else for that matter, if you’ve won?
3
Nova17Delta Apr 11, 2026 +5
Forgive me if im wrong but doesn't Japan explicitly not use their military for anything other than self defense? Isn't the American military Japan's defacto offensive force?
5

I don’t understand why we should help cleaning up the mess the US caused. Many of us are starting to resent the US, crazy how this guy was elected TWICE.

4

Well firstly, you should ask for help ***before*** you start a war, secondly they're right for not wanting to participate in a war of aggression that the US started for no good, or even clear reason for that matter.
3
Mojo-man Apr 11, 2026 +2
Trump is the type of guy who treats all people around him like shit, leaves them hanging, makes fun of them and then whines „everybody is against me and noone has any loyalty“ when he needs others with 0 self reflection on the causality… It’s so stupid (and exhausting) that this is he political reality we live in 🙄
2

So sorry no one wants to commit war crimes with you. Can't blame others on this one.
5
scottiedagolfmachine Apr 11, 2026 +3
Lol why would they go mess with Iran when it was started by Israel and USA? They have their own diplomatic reasons.
3
zzptichka Apr 11, 2026 +3
But he already won that war. What is he talking about?
3
WildChampionship985 Apr 11, 2026 +3
An overlooked story is how hated the US is in Asia right now. We turned off their oil and fertilizer and other supplies and markets for goods going to the GCC. We pulled forces that were supposedly in Asia to deter China. Now we call them cowards and tell them clean up this mess so they can get back to the old baseline. They will all be pulled closer to China.
3

Release the Epstein files...
6
thatoneguy512 Apr 11, 2026 +5
I just got back from Japan and after speaking with some locals I discovered just how bad this war is affecting them. Many people and businesses are soon going to be facing bankruptcy due to not being able to get products because of no oil. The impact of this war is far greater than most realize. Certainly more than I thought.
5
Intro-Nimbus Apr 11, 2026 +2
The world renews criticism of USA for not helping out in trade war, or informing allies before they go to war.
2
aluke000 Apr 11, 2026 +2
These allies allow you to have massive bases to be able to project situational power in Asia. Imagine if all the bases in Asian were closed, you would lose all military influence outside of chugging an aircraft carrier to each hotspot as they arise
2
Previous_Design8138 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Isn't Russia assisting Iran in some way?
2
Custard_Mcgavin Apr 11, 2026 +2
This is all just to stoke his base with more isolation via hatred for other nations and promote “American exceptionalism.” He’ll have the full support of a big enough portion of Americans who won’t complain when he starts to enact violence on other countries previously seen as allies
2
yuchix Apr 12, 2026 +2
It’s wild to blame your allies for not wanting to clean up a mess you caused yourself. You don’t get to start a pointless conflict and then catch an attitude when other countries won't bail you out.

Oh, shut up, Triump. Your bitching and moaning after all the shits you threw at your allies are the reason they have not come to your aid. And starting war without coordinating first didn't help either. Look at your predessor, Bush. He sure did hell of a lot to gain cooperation before starting his war. Bush receive A for planning ahead. Trump get F for unilaterally attacking and expect allies to foolow automatically.

What is Trump thinking. South Korea has paid the highest price of the other nations. South Korea went to the wall for the US to install THAAD missile defence system. China was upset the radar could see well into China. The SK supermarket company who's land was leased for the THAAD list all its business in China. K-drama was banned in China, people still watch it p****** copies, but the SK companies have lost billions. After such a high price the US ripped the system out and sent it to the Middle East. Now SK has no defense against NK ballistic missiles aimed at Seoul.  Trump is so poorly briefed he is now criticising SK.

It's almost as if Trump's mission is to go around and sour relations with every single US ally. Which makes exactly ZERO sense for the US itself. Hmm, i wonder why. I wonder if he has certain "friends" who have a high interest in making this happen. Wonder if their names end with "utin" and "i".
2
vape_sensation Apr 12, 2026 +1
Japan should keep it neutral and not get involved. They don't have the money to waste on war. Also Iran let a Japanese ship pass through the straight of Hormuz. We need more of that, not supporting an illegal war that is killing innocent people.

2
SethOval Apr 11, 2026 +1
I was just reading  some news coming out of Japan.  They’re criticizing Iran for mining the straight. This seems like a campaign to make it appear as though japans criticism is independent of US relations. It is not. This is a part of a campaign to make Iran look bad. Obama ushered in peace, and and made a great ease that provided almost a decade of peace with Iran. That was ruined in the first 2 years of this corrupt administrations governance.  It seems as though Is-Rayel has control of this, and our government has been completely compromised.
1
lcrtangls Apr 11, 2026 +6

Not saying there are not issues in Iran, and it’s government(like we’re one to talk, and judge).  But I am saying that his is a campaign to make them look incompetent. Taking a single line out of context. You must be a Protestant.

>Not saying there are not issues in Iran, and it’s government(like we’re one to talk, and judge). I'm one to talk. And judge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Iran_massacres I wouldn't gloss over this with a label as non-committal as "issues", but I am me and you seem to be you. >But I am saying that his is a campaign to make them look incompetent. What are you even talking about. Around 90-95% of Japan's oil comes from the Middle East, most of it moves though Hormuz. Japan doesn't like Iran closing Hormuz. Go figure. Japan doesn't need to be goaded by the USA to be dissatisfied with Iran.

They have big blue ocean between them and Iran, why would they bother?
1
-Alvara Apr 11, 2026 +1
They are very dependant on oil from ME. https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/boards-policy-regulation/japans-middle-east-energy-dependency-how-it-mitigates-shocks-2026-03-04/ Furthermore, even countries whom are almost self supported with oil/gas can/will feel the indirect effects economically. Due to countries whom have to pay more for the oil, which means inflation in those countries. This will lead to less import of goods from other countries etc. Or price hikes on things manufactured in said countries.
