The govt should stop funding the Trumps period.

I’d be ok with the government funding trials for every member of this regime and the Trump crime family. And we could save money on their housing expenses by making them share prison cells

Turn Trump Tower in Manhattan into Trump Luxury Prison. It’ll be the finest prison in the world, for all the rich and famous people of this administration and the Epstein files.

Lock them all in a cyclone fence cage in a brightly lit warehouse and give them a space blanket and half inch thick yoga mat…And play recordings of Donald Trump’s “weaves” to them at around 80 decibels 24x7 until they allocute to their crimes and agree to repay the US taxpayers what they’ve stolen.

But all the MAGA morons assure me that that's 100% FREE because Trump owns the golf courses. It doesn't cost taxpayers a dime. But Obama spent 500 Trillion Dollars by putting a basketball court on White House Grounds. You mean MAGA is 100% wrong?
167
Dracotaz71 Apr 2, 2026 +27
A-hem, Obama spent maybe $2,000 to install a basketball hoop on an existing tennis court. So yeah. Exactly the same. Right?
27
surfnsound Apr 2, 2026 +20
I was actually baffled yesterday when I saw MAGAs on Twitter trying to equate building the White House Ballroom with Obama's basketball court.

Trump is such a f****** lying hypocrite.
760
Ketzeph Apr 2, 2026 +382
His voters are the true idiots. It takes a special breed of idiocy to be fooled by someone as stupid as Trump. True MAGAts are difficult to even talk with. Any discussion of any concept is like trying to explain calculus to three year olds. The vast majority of them lack the ability to actually understand anything
382
Pale-Hour3650 Apr 2, 2026 +15
Scary to me is these utter morons will all be here after Trump is gone to vote for the next liar/destroyer candidate.
15
robokomodos Apr 2, 2026 +76
It's not just them, the mainstream media is also consistently and repeatedly fooled by Trump. They consistently treat what he says as serious trustworthy statements of fact when it has been repeatedly demonstrated that he just lies off the cuff constantly.
76
Economy-Pin2836 Apr 2, 2026 +76
I must respectlully disagree. The MSM are not actually fooled by Trump, they are perfectly aware that he's a lying sack of c***, but they have their marching orders from their billionaire owners to ignore 90% of his crimes and repulsive behavior, only reporting the remaining 10% because it is simply too blatant to ignore -- but they are still required to sanewash that 10%. The MSM reporters are a group of gutless wonders who would make the great investigative reporters of the 20th century sneer in contempt.
76
CubicleMan9000 Apr 2, 2026 +15
In the early 2000s a majority decided to stop paying for news because it was free online and TV. This has meant an ongoing loss of mainstream journalists for over 20 years now. A few YouTubers have been able to make a living from making News videos which gets them ad revenue, but they are a drop in the bucket. Especially for local news, which is completely dying out. The public won't pay for news and journalism. Corporations will, as long as the News goes their way (cough cough). Source: am a former journalist that left the field because I could no longer feasibly support my family from it.
15
FirmlyThatGuy Apr 2, 2026 +83

35
huge_dick_mcgee Apr 2, 2026 +8

“I said that? I never said that. You know your nasty, awful reporter from a nasty awful network. It would be a shame if we took away your broadcasting license.” Trump in response, probably.

Marco Rubio in [March 2026](https://truthout.org/articles/rubio-ironically-says-iran-should-spend-money-on-its-people-not-on-the-military/): > “Imagine an Iran that, instead of spending their wealth, billions of dollars, supporting terrorists or weapons, had spent that money helping the people of Iran,”
28
QuitCallingNewsrooms Apr 2, 2026 +20
The journalist play here is to read that quote back to him without telling him he said it, and asking him what he has to say to the people who criticize him like this. And then, use whatever derogatory language he uses to demean the quote, ask him if he is that.
20
geeknami Apr 2, 2026 +49
the war he says we already won but still asking other nations to help with?
49

That one too. He doesn't say "the war", he specifically says the federal governmen should focus "on war", and leave Medicare, daycare, etc up to the States.

17
Imaginaryreality5304 Apr 2, 2026 +4601
I am so tired of paying taxes just for these psychopaths to use it to fund death and destruction. No one in their right mind would choose that option over funding things that actually benefit human life. This is a deep sickness, simple as that.

Exactly. So many Americans fooled by this bumbling moron who's obviously lying all the time. Now think of how much damage the next Republican president could do with a fraction more intelligence and actual charisma.
90
Downtown_Recover5177 Apr 2, 2026 +44
I’m somewhat comforted by the fact that Republicans won’t vote for someone that’s intelligent and charismatic. Intelligence is taboo for them, and anyone with charisma won’t say the quiet parts out loud. They specifically love Dump because he’s stupid and crass, just like them.

100% Trump is the inevitable result of unlimited corporate/foreign money and tribalistic two party politics influencing elections. Without overturning citizens United and reforming our first past the post system, we will just eventually get another Trump if this one doesn’t succeed in upending democracy.

66
Zolomun Apr 2, 2026 +46
I’m really mystified how they keep getting away with Trickle-Down when the entire concept can be destroyed with a couple of line charts. The same group that is obsessed with returning to the 1950s has remained resolute in fighting the policies that made the 50s possible.
46
Websters_Dick Apr 2, 2026 +39
Its because of racism. The part of the 1950s they actually want isn't the economic prosperity. It is the ability to treat minorities however they want (badly) without repercussions (people thinking they are bad)
39

13
takinganewtack Apr 2, 2026 +34
I’m tired of this argument. Trump is exactly the problem. Is he the only one? No… but he is not getting a hall pass as a symptom. He belongs in prison. Here’s a novel idea, let’s start with prosecutions of everyone in the Epstein files, a very nonpartisan issue that somehow people have made very partisan, and start holding the ‘wealthy and powerful’ accountable. Out them if the evidence is there (it’s obvious a massive amount of info is being withheld but even what’s available is pretty damning to many), and the voting public needs to stop voting for criminals, frauds, liars and cheats.
34
rabel Apr 2, 2026 +23
You can be tired of it all you like, but it's the truth. Trump doesn't come up with his bullshit all by himself. It's Stephen Miller, the Heritage Society and all the plans outlined in Project 2025 that were written up without having any particular individual in mind as President. Nobody is saying Trump gets a pass, he should absolutely end up in prison for all his corruption, but as soon as Trump is gone (one way or another) someone else will step up to fill his role.
23
ChampaBayLightning Apr 2, 2026 +24
>I’m tired of this argument. Trump is exactly the problem. Is he the only one? No… but he is not getting a hall pass as a symptom. He belongs in prison. This is such a naive and sophomoric take. Same as when people thought that Bush/Cheney were the entire problem and therefore missed foreseeing the rise of the Tea Party. Focusing on Trump instead of Republicans means that when Trump leaves or dies, they will just pretend they never supported him and the American public will just vote for them again. They'll probably run their next, more competent version of Trump as the only man who can fix the economy (that they broke yet again).
24
Grouchy_Discussion42 Apr 2, 2026 +19
And the people who run the Heritage Foundation, Federalist Society, and the like. And the cult of Christian Nationalism and late stage capitalism/Oligarchs. All the pillars of support that keep him in power. They ALL have that sickness.

Imagine if due to some very unfortunate accident you caused the death of a single person. For most people, such an incident would haunt you for your whole life. Trump and Hegseth killed 170 innocent people (mostly children) at a girls school on day 1 of their unnecessary war and barely even acknowledge it. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. These are the actions of psychopaths.

I figure that a large number of "supporters " just have zero clue what's happening around them and would say something like "I try to stay out of politics. " yet will wear a red hat and say they like him because he says mean/funny things about people they dont know yet dont like. I had a coworker ask why gas prices were going up a week after we started bombing Iran. I dont understand how a person can move through life and not accidentally being at least slightly informed. Even if were against their will.

Billionaires pay comparatively very little tax. For instance they pay the same social security tax rate, 6.2%, but it is capped at $184,500 of earnings. People like Musk and Bezos stop paying SS tax after their first cup of coffee on the first day of the year, because they reach the threshold to stop paying. While the rest of us keep paying 6.2% all year. These inequities are built into the system to protect the wealthy and have the rest of us subsidize them. The true welfare queens are the ultra-rich.
17
GrafZeppelin127 Apr 2, 2026 +7
>People like Musk and Bezos stop paying SS tax after their first cup of coffee on the first day of the year, because they reach the threshold to stop paying. What? No. Don’t be ridiculous. Jeff Bezos makes $8 million every hour, he’d hit the cap before he’s done downing his New Years’ champagne. Or rather, he would if he made ordinary income, but for tax purposes it’s not *really* “income.”

Let's be real here, even if they know their healthcare will be affected they'll put up with it as long as non-whites suffer too. [Dying of Whiteness](https://www.basicbooks.com/titles/jonathan-m-metzl/dying-of-whiteness/9781541644960/) >Even on death’s doorstep, Trevor wasn’t angry. In fact, he staunchly supported the stance promoted by his elected officials. “Ain’t no way I would ever support Obamacare or sign up for it,” he told me. “I would rather die.” When I asked him why he felt this way even as he faced severe illness, he explained, “We don’t need any more government in our lives. And in any case, no way I want my tax dollars paying for Mexicans or welfare queens.

Tons of Americans cross into Mexico daily to get medical and dental care. There are tons of doctors offices along the border for this reason. Mexico has to help poor Americans because our government won't.

I thought the war was won and that we would be pulling out in 2 or 3 weeks. We can shift that $1B a day to Medicare for all, daycare, college, and student debt relief before May 1.

There's a fellow out drinking with his buddies at the pub. Around 10pm he sighs and says, "Last one." His buddies are shocked. "You're the hardest drinker on our shinny team! What gives‽" He explains, ruefully, that his wife has had enough of his coming home filthy drunk. "Ah," says an older and wiser habitué. "Here's what you do: Put a tenner in your blazer's handkerchief pocket..." The habitué then explains how to use it to handle the "Old Ball and Chain." Our fellow listens, tucks a tenner into his pocket, and carries on drinking until he is thrown out of the pub for vomiting all over himself. His buddies carry him home, leave him on the doorstep, ring the bell, and scarper away. His wife finds him and is livid. "No, my sweet, you've got it all wrong. I wasn't drunk to the point of throwing up, that was Alistair! He fishes the tenner out. "He gave me a tenner to cover dry cleaning his sick off my blazer." His wife dutifully carries his clothes to the laundry room, and then returns. "One question," she asks, "If Alistair threw up on your blazer, who shat in your khakis?"

I’d rather fund universal healthcare, housing for the homeless, food for the poor and starving, and tax billionaires, then fund this or most wars. Maybe he should just ask his buddies for money and then drain some of his accounts…

selfdestructo591 Apr 2, 2026 +7
I’d rather tax corporations who don’t pay their employees enough or fund their healthcare enough, that their employees have to rely on government assistance. Walmart should be paying for all of the food stamps and Medicare/medicaid their employees need to receive.

If they successfully passed universal healthcare, it actually might. War is not surprising to me as an American. We’ve been bombing people since I was born, republicans and democrats alike. But a single payer healthcare system? That would be news.

What's pretty significant about this is in 2016, Trump ran on not cutting any programs like Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. It really differentiated himself from other Republicans and caused voters to look at him as "more moderate." I mean now his brain is complete mush and he's regurgiatating talking points that have been bandied about, but it's still a huge shift, even for him.

It’s not a „now“ thing. The guy just says whatever he thinks benefits him most in any given moment and doesn’t give a rat‘s f*** how this affects anyone else - and he was always that way. The whole world could and can see it, but for some reason Americans are blind.

He and the Dept of War have been clear. We aren’t fighting any wars, that would be illegal without Congressional approval. So why do we need to increase their budget? BTW why do we continue to pour money into a department that can’t pass an audit? F You Trump. You are a demented old man with no empathy nor the ability to understand the complexities of a world that must think globally.

absentgl Apr 2, 2026 +10
In the speech, it’s more jarring than the headline. Trump basically says the federal government shouldn’t do anything aside from military/defense. He has been quickly hollowing out the federal government. They want to force states to pick up the slack. The states can’t borrow to pay their bills, so the states will go bankrupt and collapse, because the federal government will crush them. I fear that Yarvin’s corporate-owned city-states is the endgame.

It's infuriating that a serial draft dodger is now playing war and talking about cutting essential services in order to fund it. Congress needs to grow a pair and invoke the 25th amendment.
27
Smaynard6000 Apr 2, 2026 +11
By design, the 25th Amendment only really works if the president is in a coma. If he's lucid enough to object to it, it doesn't work. Impeachment is the remedy.

>Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. >The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. >It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some 50 miles of concrete highway. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. >We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. >This, I repeat, is the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. >This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron. >These plain and cruel truths define the peril and point the hope that come with this spring of 1953. >This is one of those times in the affairs of nations when the gravest choices must be made, if there is to be a turning toward a just and lasting peace. It is a moment that calls upon the governments of the world to speak their intentions with simplicity and with honesty. >It calls upon them to answer the question that stirs the hearts of all sane men: is there no other way the world may live? - President Dwight Eisenhower

8
donut_dave Apr 2, 2026 +8
The absolute whiplash that is this man's comments. Last night it was 2-3 weeks of intense bombing, sending Iran back to the stone age. Today its cut funding for valuable domestic entitlements and programs to continue funding the war. Are we almost done or just getting started?! You gonna cut funding to Medicare for 2-3 weeks worth of bombing?
8
Alphanaught Apr 2, 2026 +7
Don't let anyone tell you medicare and social security are doomed. They're not. We just need to raise taxes on the wealthy so they pay their fair share. Here's the [budget reform](https://open.substack.com/pub/logangodkin/p/the-problem-with-the-us-budget?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=post%20viewer) that get us to medicare for all and a healthy social security fund. It's do-able. You just can't keep giving tax cuts to the wealthy.

I wonder how this fits into America First? Killing Americans so they can afford to kill Iranians doesn't sound like America first to me.
7
Cancel_Culture_Club Apr 2, 2026 +6
The chuds will still cheer. They’ll say it’s still America First because hes protecting us from how dangerous Iran has been for 47 years is the current talking point.  Nobody addresses how Trump was already president for 4 of those years and yet it wasn’t an emergency to do anything then for some reason tho. But they’ll still cheer for losing more services that we’ll continue having to pay for anyway because they think the government should *only* exist for defense while everything else is just your own personal failings for being unable to pay for everything.
